Circa 1966, I saw Basho live in a very small coffee house in Fall River, MA. I sat alone at a table at the front of the nearly empty room. He came in with a couple of guitars, put them on the stage area and then sat down with me. I was a high school kid and I wanted to say something smart, so I asked, How is your reality trip? That was a rough start to our conversation. After his transcendent concert he asked for a ride back to Cambridge, about 90 minutes away. I had just gotten my drivers license and was delighted to take the trip. I saw him again 2o years later in a larger coffee house, the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA. His music was still transcendent. And this time the venue was full.

Those who saw him live were truly blessed. What a spectacle it must have been. Amazing guitar player.
