I know man,it's crazy how it looks like Jason is noodling thru arpeggios and out of nowhere Marty jumps in and they do a duel harmony lead, they was blowing other musicians smooth out of the water, but yeah it was a damn shame they wasn't on Wheaties boxes as amazing as they was
My friends and I got to see Jason and Marty do a demo I believe in 1989-90. I don't remember any cameras around at the time. Wasn't like today were everyone has a cell phone to record. It is too bad these two were magic live.
@@jgmopar True. We were behind the Soviet iron curtain at that time. You can bet we had absolutely no video cameras around, except at the hands of KGB :D
When I toured with Marty, we got the chance to meet Jason. He and Marty hadn’t seen each other in 13 years at that point. It was in San Francisco at the Great American Music Hall. I haven’t been nervous about playing since my high school talent show but that day Jason rolled in and was in front of my side of the stage and I was pretty shook. Meeting the two of them and Gary, Jason’s father and also his mother. That was probably the most amazing experience I’ve had in my whole life. I don’t think either of them knew the real impact they had on so much of us, I play because of Sabbath, but I play better, because of Cacophony.
Not to mention he seems like such a nice dude! Super humble, awkward kid who just loves music and wants to play for people. I'm glad he can still compose. It breaks my heart he never got the mainstream recognition he deserved.
I'm sure many people on this page would appreciate the short run Jason Becker had. A prodigy talent. In high school jasons playing black star with guitar behind between his legs attempting sweep. What I'm saying is Jason was able to play anything at his age, at that time. Must've been a blast waking up everyday, knowing you can play anything on guitar, in highschool. That's power in the 80s. At the stone club Jason plays yo yo at same time. (probably on this video) He's playing 6 string sweeps natural like it's nothing. Thirty five years ago Jason plays sweeps like polyphia plays '40 ounce'. Polyphia said Jason Becker is the only guitarist from the 80s who doesn't sound from the eighties. I was literally born 26 days later from the namm footage.. but I discovered Jason when I was in highschool in the early 00s. My grandfather passed away from ALS, same disease Jason has. I absolutely hate that disease and it always seems to stricken people who have amazing talent and physical strength. Like my grandpa and Jason. It's awesome to see that jason doesn't let the disease hold him back and still composes music. The disease might take away your body, but It'll never take away your mind.
Wow this is almost a museum piece, Cacophony is one of the apex of heavy metal in my opinion despite of few albuns and material avaliable. My favorite guitar duo ever! Thanks for gathering these material! As many said on comments, is very hard to find these footages
Marty said that he never palm mutes strings unless he's playing rhythm guitar. He explained that he holds his picking hand that way to make sure that only his pick ever touches the strings. But I get anxiety watching him pick that way and I'm very grateful that I love some palm muting during lead work and that I don't have to hold my picking hand that same awkward way!
I know what you mean 😕 if I live to be a thousand years old and practiced guitar every day for hours and hours I still don't think I could ever get to the level that Jason was at
You're very welcome. I was tired of searching around the internet for al those short cacophony clips, so I decided to just put them all into one video so everythings easier to find.
These 2 rewrote the rulebook on harmonised guitar, both cacophony albums ruled, but "Burn the ground" with it's devastating outro was pure metal magic🤘🤘
Did they play that track on any of the live sections of this whole compilation? I haven't had a chance to watch it all yet but that's one of the tracks I'm really hoping to get to see live if you have a timestamp if they played it
I was at the NAMM show in the Carvin booth for one of their jams. It was pretty much exactly as I remembered it. Very loose and fun. Not very loud at all. Went to a Cacophony show in Oakland or Alameda as well when they had a singer. You could tell that they were pushing each other into new places. Good memories.
I actually was at a Namm show with Marty and Jason in those booths (first clip) It more likely was that day because 1988 sounds right. (and Oct would be Winter NAMM). I have a kinda shitty pic I took (was just a kid and with a point and click camera) but it was insane seeing them play. I did see Cacophony maybe a year later at the Whisky which was awesome!!
First time I heard these guys was because of Iron Maiden but I had not seen or heard of any of Cacophony's music for sale in the UK at that time. The track was Go Off! It still holds up for me as THE pinnacle of harmony guitar shred
Ps.. take another listen to Jason's compositions how he puts the complex elements in the background and the melodic parts up front where other artists would add the solo. It's just one more way his thought process differs in the way he adds structure through arpeggios faster lines etc.
I recommend listening to them with the remasters by this guy. they sound clearer than the original record. ruclips.net/video/tSh3RZnQoWs/видео.html ruclips.net/video/l0-G4Cl-qfk/видео.html
God Bless Jason and Marty , what a wonderful creation of a band by 2 of the most phenominal talents of All Time. Their albums were Not given very much publicity due to the nature of Shrapnel records limited budget compared to other major recording labels. This was and is one of the best bands that David Lee Roth had a hand in derailing just before these guys had a chance to start. With a little more time together and another album or two under their belts this bands contribution to music history would have been Legendary I'm convinced and the early lack of publicity would have taken rise to Worldwide Fame and Critical Acclaim but we will always be forever grateful for the hard work and dedication in the music they amazed and inspired us with as they entertained . In that first clip of them playing that amp to the far left reminded me of my old amp that I absolutely loved! It was 1980s RG-80 Randall Combo Solid State....you could make any guitar sound great with that thing. I used to crank it outback of my house and I had neighbor friends down the street who said they could hear it lol wish I still had that amp, now I've been stuck with a cheap tiny shoebox size amp that has absolutely no gain/distortion and no reverb so I mainly just play my guitars unplugged. I have a bigger/ nicer amp that has built in effects but my daughter broke the input jack when she was little and I need to get it repaired but no guitar shops around me now, used to have Hot Lick's guitar shop but they closed.

The best rock/metal guitar duo. They were doing so much creative stuff with harmonies and counterpoint.
just not fair how someone like jason so young and healthy at the time gets a disease that paralyzed him so badly he can only move his eyes.

All sweeping is good man, clean playing and clean living 😄
It's so funny to see the Japanese interview with the knowledge of where Marty ultimately ended up
Even then, Jason and Marty were super-shredding on a level that most guitarists today only wish they could achieve!
Becker was flawless

Jason Becker was such a talented guitar player.
I think perpetual burn is the best shred album of all time and Dragon's Kiss is very close behind.

Marty's picking style gives me carpal tunnel😂

But I get anxiety watching him pick that way and I'm very grateful that I love some palm muting during lead work and that I don't have to hold my picking hand that same awkward way!
It's totally weird 😮
Marty hates muted notes... it's a weird picking style but it has served him well
His picking hand is so weird but I find it oddly comfortable for picking fast, palm muting requires such a different technique though
Man it sucks that Jason didn't get his chance to take the throne cause he was coming for it
