      Comparatively new Army here (couple months) 62 years old and stumbled over them here on you tube. For me, it’s not just the music but their whole journey and especially Run BTS and Bon Voyage. I’ve also been watching In The Soop. Fascinating to have watched them grow through the years and become the men that they are.

I was alone at home sick while my family was at work/school. These 7 beautiful souls kept me from going to very dark and depressing places. I am an ARMY mama in the US rooting for my Korean sons from across the water.🥰 OT7 💜

    You know, listening to you makes me feel like I am sitting talking with a friend about BTS; a friend I wish I really had. I'm a 67 yo fan from Western USA, none of my family or friends are that interested in BTS, and they are my main outside interest these days. I think that is why reaction videos get so many views, there are a lot of people like me who want to share the BTS experience, and hope that their influence and messages can spread, because many of us think that is what the world needs. Plus aren't they fun to watch? SO talented.
    Also, I totally 1000% agree with you about our systems, esp the educational system, it is too linear and too college centered, as if that is the only value most people should strive for. I was on a local school board at it was truly the main focus. It's GOT to change.

    As you can see BTS is not a typical boyband. They're not only the best performers, amazing musicians but wonderful, incredible human beings. I'm 51, my music background goes from Metallica, Queen, Frank Sinatra, Nirvana , Tupac Shakur, Coldplay, Michael Jackson, Withney Houston, Pink Floyd, The Cure, Toby Keith and many more. Let's be honest nowadays music is not anymore as it used to be. There are not songs we can relate to, almost everything is about sex, drugs, violence and singers are not anymore like in 80's or 90's for example. That's why I enjoy BTS they're the only one who can be at the same level of the biggest legends. We can relate with their music. Their music helps families to get closer, teenagers can enjoy good music and their love for BTS with their parents, just like I do with my three girls. I really enjoyed your reaction. Thank you. 💜

    I'm 54. I've been ARMY about 5 years now and I have never been more immersed in an artist as I am BTS. I believe the symbiotic relationship is very unique. They have created a community of inclusion and love. Its an enigma. With BTS I feel we are growing together and one is never to old to grow, change and improve oneself.
    The tattoo thing clarification: tattoos can be controversial in the idol culture because idols are expected to maintain a clean, wholesome image. And in their culture tattoos symbolize rebellion. If you have visible tattoos it affect TV. They have a rating system and having visible tattoos would give a ring not suitable for children and teens. JK covers his when performing on TV shows. Since TV music shows are the bread and butter for idols most labels prohibit them.
    I think the genius of BTS directly lies in Bang Shi Hyuk, the founder and CEO of Big Hit Music. He is a talented musician, writer and producer himself. He wanted to revolutionize the idol culture by making changes that didn't fall within the cookie cutter guidelines of the industry...so of course he got a lot of push back. And I think BTS's success is because they were outside the bubble. And let me be clear, no one saw them coming nor did they want them to succeed but BTS was so relatable and talented fans took notice right away. In fact they made efforts to deter their success but BH and BTS trusted each other. Its like we all have been growing together: BH, BTS and ARMY. We are all a part of music history. 💜

    you're completely right, jungkook most of the time has to cover up his tattoos when going to events that will air on korean tv (a few times he hasn't but most of the time he has to..) and that's just for his hand tattoo. he has a full sleeve on one of his arms and he has worn long sleeves almost exclusively for the past 2 years (however, finally during their live when butter dropped he wore a short sleeved shirt and we saw his sleeve more closely so i guess he may or may not show it more in the future). korea is just very, very traditionalistic.

    • @jessicaelle0988
      @jessicaelle0988 3 года назад +20

      Yeah, it's mostly because tattoos were for a long time associated with gangs in SK, so it's hard for the old generation to accept them today.
      Tattoos aren't actually 'illegal' but only people that have a medical license can tattoo as a job, but what person would get a medical license and not become a doctor right? So it makes most, if not all tattoos made in Korea, made illegally 🤷‍♀️
      We don't know where Jk did his, probably abroad 🤔
      Recently a young MP has been trying to make a new law that would authorize tattoos to be seen on Tv, she used Jungkook as an example to show how weird it is to make him put bandages or gloves to hide them every time he's on tv. Some people didn't appreciate that she used his picture to promote it, even though they agree with the idea.

    • @cindyschouenberg4559

      @@jessicaelle0988 i think that they are very narrow minded. He's the best example to use in her case to make her point. And what if she asked him permission to use him for her campain? I as an army, am very glad that at least one MP has the guts to bring this on and will cheer for her to get rid of this ridiculous law!

    • @jessicaelle0988
      @jessicaelle0988 3 года назад +12

      @@cindyschouenberg4559 If Jungkook was okay with it I wouldn't have had a problem with it either. But if he wasn't aware of it, which we supposed he wasn't, since she apologized for using his pictures, it is not okay. Imagine him waking up the next day and seing his tatoos on the news or Twitter, having everyone talk about it 😬
      From what I've seen, most of the comments were asking if she had his permission and lots of people were concerned about why she was 'dragging him into politics'.
      Overall I think Armys are just tired of seeing BTS being used by everyone at their will without asking them what they want, as if they were a product.
      Just like the other Kpop companies did for the 'BTS law' for the postponement of the military service even though BTS and Hybe themselves weren't even involved in the proposition 🤷‍♀️

    • @HadassaMoon144
      @HadassaMoon144 3 года назад +4

      Also keep in mind that Jungkook has been a media target for a few years now. His tattoos and growing his hair long plus some business issues with Big Hit and Dispatch made his very minor issues big news. Remember when he bumped a park car? The media tried to portray that he had been drunk driving. No such luck. It was a fender bender. And the Iteawon incident? The media tried to sensationalize that and even elude to him going to a gay bar. That was so close to becoming a slander issue. There was one or two others as well. His name and face was plastered all over and people were speaking out about him "looking like a gangster" since he grew his hair and got those tattoos. A lot of casual BTS fans didn't even realize he had tattoos because he keeps them so covered. The change in his appearance and his young age has made him one that people talk about with this....held breath ..just waiting for him to implode or do something outlandish. He really took a BIG step by styling himself how he wants. Big Hit HAS to have supported that too but they also appear to be trying to protect him. So....I don't think Jungkook gave his permission. I understand her reasoning 100 % but ARMY don't want any bad media to start up surrounding Jungkook yet again. It all started with those tattoos and his long hair. It was so so stupid.

    • @jessicaelle0988
      @jessicaelle0988 3 года назад +1

    One of the big things about their albums is that they're not just a CD with a tiny little booklet that credits the writers, producers, etc. Their albums are works of art and filled with stunning photos and each version will have slightly different pictures. It's a common practice where ARMY will try to get X version of Y album for their collections because they enjoy one over the other or wish to have them all for a completed set. For example, the Love Yourself series will spell the words LOVE YOURSELF when all of the albums are lined up in order. I don't mind paying the price for the albums because it's much more than just the musical experience and the amount of behind the scenes we've seen that showcase the work that goes into all the fine details is amazing. As for the tattoo thing it's still a mixed bag. Older generations tend to look down upon it while younger adults are mostly okay. As far as I know it's again the rules for Korean tv to allow visible tattoos and thus they'll need to be blurred out or covered up. 2 of the members of BTS have had ink done: Jungkook is sporting a full sleeve while Jimin's are less visible. (13 on his wrist, the word NEVERMIND on his ribs and Young Forever with each word a few inches over his elbows.) At this point it's a matter of respect that we don't ask or try to make a fuss because of the shitshow that happened at the first view of JK's hand tattoos.

They are considered the greatest asset to their country in terms of spreading their culture around the world. They have millions of fans who want to understand what their poetic lyrics say and their true meaning because Korean doesn’t translate well into other languages.We have Bilingual ARMY volunteers who translate whenever they post something and add context and what they truly mean. About the vlogging, this wasn't a thing idols typically do. Having their own variety show was something BTS pioneered as well. You have to understand the system of kpop before BTS got big.
    SM entertainment was the biggest for many years and their marketing was making Idols that seem so far removed from regular people, like they are perfect superhumans.
    An antithesis of this was YG ent with BigBang & 2ne1, who went for grittier, tough, bad boy and girl crush concepts.
    These two entertainment companies were competing for the top before BTS came along. The difference between these big entertainment companies was vulnerability, BTS was willing to show their soft and humble side not just in their music, but in the behind the scenes and off-stage moments that they capture and show to millions.

    About their albums: They make it worthwhile to buy, even when you don't have CD players, because it comes with like a 100 pg photo booklet, stickers, photo cards, etc. And usually there would be 3 or 4 versions of the same album, but all of them would have different photo concepts. They work hard to ensure that the content is worth it for fans. Some argue that is cheating because its like bundling with merch...but the content is directly connected with the music which I think is unique and is an extension of the whole music experience.

      It´s far from bundling actually. They sell albums with merch, not merch with albums. It´s not so hard to understand the difference. I agree with you that it is an extension of the musical experience

    Just a comment on the physical album. Albums from BTS and pretty much most Koop artists are not like buying an album in America were you get a plastic case with a paper cover snd the cd and if your lucky a lyric booklet. BTS albums come in really nice sturdy boxes with posters and photo cards and lyric posters and photo books each album is a little different and has its own concept they even have different versions of a single album and each version comes with different things that’s a huge reason I think they sell so many physical albums cause opening up a BTS album is an experience.

    About tattoos, before it was considered that only gangsters were tattooed so there is a big stigma around them, now it is a little more acceptable among young people but still the adults in Korea are very conservative, tattoos are not illegal but tattoo artists must have a medical license to be able to tattoo, many don't pursue the medical license and are only dedicated to tattooing so they are "illegal" in a way, but people are not arrested for it, public broadcasters have very strict regulations so the artists cover their tattoos or blur them

    32:12 In South Korea Tattoos are taboo especially with older generations and tattooing people is actually illegal still in south Korea. And when they go on Korean Broadcasts the editors either blur the tattoos or they cover them up. But the thing about the boys is that they've never really been the ones to follow these types of rules. They are very much all about artistic expression and individual expression. They've been doing things that could get them in trouble in their home turf for the longest time. They call out any and everyone, including the Korean gov't. A lot of people (especially conservatives in South korea have beef with them lol). Also the media over there does not like them as you may have peeped in the hardships video. It's a whole thing. People dont like that they do whatever they want, whenever they want, in whichever way they want. They are a pretty free-acting group and their label supports that lol and it gets people even more angry

    Speaking of US education. When my first husband began his career, he was a gifted and inspired teacher. So gifted that his “results” were noticed by the school board. In their “wisdom” they assigned him to teach classes composed entirely of students who were “known” as “problems” and students who were labeled as “slow”. What these students shared in common was the knowledge that at 15 they were already failures. I am convinced that he would have thrived on reaching these students if their challenges had not composed his entire teaching day AND if the school system had not decided upon requiring daily measurement of these students’ progress. In the case of this good man, this potentially inspired and inspiring teacher, his entire passion was utterly smothered. He continued teaching until his retirement, experiencing every year as an impossible burden and failure. He never deserved this. Nor did his students, who met his extinguished passion, believing it to be their own.

Well in addition to being an outstanding 7 member group, writing, composing and producing for the group and their solo works, at least 2 of the members (RM and Suga) already do this for several other artists already. They have been doing this for years. I am sure you will eventually get to these collaborations but Suga has even won a Producer's award for a song he did for another artist a few years ago.

    There is a social stigma in Korea regarding stuff like tattoos, drinking, and smoking, especially with public figures like bts. Often times if someone is shown on TV with or doing these then it would be blurred out or cut. When JK first got his tattoos, he often had to completely cover them up with makeup when BTS did interviews or performances. We havent even seen him wear a short sleeved shirt since before the LY: SY tour in 2018. There has been no official response from BTS regarding any of the members tattoos, and since it is a private matter, army has all accepted this fact and not forced them to talk about it or show us.

    Honestly, BTS albums are just an experience, and I think that's a huge part of why fans continue buying them.
    If you buy a BTS album, it's not one of those CDs in a Plastic packaging and maybe a sheet of paper for a cover.
    BTS albums are always nicely packaged, you get a whole book with concept photos of the album photoshoot, a photocard (or even multiple), sometimes a poster, a nice photo frame or a stand with all of them on it, or other little merch, it depends on the album. It's just standard practice in the K-Pop industry to put effort into every aspect of the group, and make it a worthwhile experience. The albums are more expensive, but also very beautiful to just have as a collection.

    First of all, thank you for giving the Bangtan boys a chance. I really admire you for it. I feel sometimes when people think about the word "boy band", it could turn them off because the stereotype of boy band had in the past (boys singing & dancing about romantic love and screaming young teenage girls, etc) but then when you actually listen to BTS' music and learn their message, you will realize that BTS is far from a typical boyband indeed. However, most people already wouldn't give them a chance because of the word "Boyband". In fact, BTS 'fan base is so diverse in demography. Let me tell you this, I am a 42 years old with two young kids. I love BTS not because of their visuals but their music, message, talent, hard working, and how & who they are. Their music gives the positive and meaningful message, it is the kind of music that I would like my kids to grow up with (since a lot of music out there these days likes to talk about thug, drug, sex or other bad stuff.) I introduced BTS music to my kids and now we are fans of them. I think it is pretty cool that my kids and I are growing older and closer together listening to the same music.
    "If you listen to music without prejudice, you will like BTS' music". -- by Suga of BTS.
    I hope you’ll continue digging into BTS’ music and message. You’ll not be disappointed!

I found you yesterday and have been binging, cause I was feeling a little low and it feels like I’m watching stuff with a friend. 💜 I’m a 23 year old ARMY and I found them in early 2015, seen them live on Jimin’s birthday in Ziggo Dome. That moment solidified that I want to be apart of this forever. ARMY is so kind, I bumped into someone and we literally had an apology battle and ended up hugging. That’s the atmosphere at BTS concerts. So welcoming, it feels like I’m home. 💜
    Also, I agree. I think that BTS will be great seniors/mentors for many artists to come. BTS had artists that gave them advice, so at some point in time they’ll be that person. Actually, they already are. TXT and Enhypen two newer groups under Big Hit (Hybe now) and they look up to BTS a lot. Very sweet dynamics.

    Welcome to the journey 💜 I joined ARMY last year (I’m quarantine ARMY, though the Map of the Soul:7 (MOTS7) album was the first one I was aware of when released earlier last year). Many ARMY call themselves by the year, era, or song they first listened/saw BTS. Newer ARMY are often referred to as baby ARMY because we have a lot to learn about 🙂
    You are right about no scandals with the guys too. In fact, paparazzi in Korea stopped following them around by they were always just with each other doing nothing of any shocking nature. They have stayed humble throughout and the line in BUTTER, “got ARMY right behind us when we say so” speaks directly to this long history of love and support between them. They have a show they do called “Run BTS” and in a recent episode, Jin jokingly told a staff member that if he didn’t accept the answer BTS had given ARMY would come after him. 😄 the staffer accepted the answer 😆
    Glad you’ve given yourself a chance to learn about the group. If you have questions, ask and ARMY will provide more than you thought possible 😁 I suggest always watch their videos with captions so you can read the lyrics, whether you choose to do it on your first reaction or afterwards. There’s a lot of music, dance practices, solo songs, etc., ahead of you so just pace yourself and be patient and don’t be afraid to put the rude ones in their place. It’s your channel, do what you want, how you want. You’ve got a new sub in Alaska. Borahae 💜 (even that word, Borahae, has deep meaning for BTS & ARMY and when a company tried to copyright it earlier this year, ARMY stepped up about it, the company backed down and withdrew their application. I think HYBE (the music label for BTS) has now submitted a copyright application for it). Oh, and purple is ARMY and BTS’s color too so that’s why you’ll see so many Purple Hearts in comments 🙂 Enjoy your BTS journey, I’m loving mine 💜

    You are so right that when Korean lyrics of their songs are converted to English or any other langyages, real deep hidden messages, delicacy of the word playing, true meanings and fun get lost in translations. You mentioned Boys to Men to be considered as a boyband. One of the member, Shawn Stockman, went to BTS Rose Bowl concert and fallen in love with them. He was describing his experience from the concert to his music associate, praising them and even covered Jimin's song in Korean (he memorized the whole song in Korean) & posted all these on you tube.

As someone who is learning Korean, all I can say is it is worth it. There are so many resources even on the good old RUclips to help you but in all honesty, anything that is official will have accurate subs, even their official music videos. Sometimes, even having accurate translations won’t help as there are cultural things we as westerners don’t understand. As a lot of their music is very lyric driven, remembering to turn the captions on is very beneficial. I look forward to seeing where you go from here. You have come so far from your first MV reaction. As an original ARMY I thank you for taking the time to try to understand them more. [the story of my first death]
    contributing to the education system conversation.
    I'm from the Philippines and back when I was 13 (im 24 now) I got into writing and composing. i was seriously into it like i learned guitar on my own, learned piano on my own and cried when my parents couldnt get me even the cheapest keyboard. but im an only child and now the only highschool graduate in my father's immediate family at that time. pursuing music was out of the picture completely. i needed to make sure I made a living and we couldnt take any risks or afford me pursuing music. i tried to keep composing in college but the gap between what i was producing to what trained producers with good equipment made vs me who only had a guitar and a crappy laptop was massive. plus i didnt have the time to learn more about music with a full college load. i tried to keep doing both writing and composing plus my workload but there came a time when i had to choose my course over everything else when i failed a year. and that's when i died my first death. you'll understand this when u listen to Black Swan by BTS. these days even if I try to write I dont know how to start, when i pickup the guitar I dont even finish a song. I broke down so hard when i felt like i lost that part of me that was able to create and literally felt like a huge part of me died and I only "existed" in my skin. I dont know if that makes sense.
    My hope isnt for me anymore. I hope that one day the system get better and allows children to pursue their passion. I wouldnt want my children to experience what I had gone through.

    Thank you for reacting to this. Yes, BTS members have rarely done anything that may spark controversies. Some of the "controversies" they were caught doing was a fender bender by a member, Jungkook's tattoes, or being caught by a camera drinking in a night club in Paris (but it wasn't a big deal to be honest since they are adults anyway). That's all I think I can think of right now. They are just good, responsible, and hardworking young men in general. They are aware of their influence and always try their best to set good examples to their fans. Their public image and personas have been clean so far. Next, if you're up for it, you can learn about the members individually by reacting to "An Introduction to the 7 Members of BTS (2021 update) by Ida S". It is currently the most updated intro I watched. And lastly, as BTS's Jimin once said, "you nice, keep going!" Welcome to the BTS's rabbit hole.

    Please react to this docu-series called the rise of Bangtan . It’s an extremely well-made series and it’ll really give you insight on BTS as well as the kpop industry and how BTS differs from a typical kpop group. It also touches a little on Korean society and the education system, maybe this would be something you’re interested in looking into.

    You're right education is very different everywhere and I think that there are probably flaws to it no matter where you are. Here in the UK it's very much orientated to academics and teaching you to pass the exams. I'll be honest I left school with no idea what to do and went to college (not the same as US college) and did a subject because I didn't really know what to do but I had to do something. I then went to university still with no idea if I was on the right path.... I only lasted the year before I dropped out it was too much and I'm not very academically minded. (the exams were too much, in a year there were a lot of exams and it was so stressful and it never stopped. I literally was in Uni mon-fri 9-5 and studying all weekend and I just couldn't keep it up. No partying for me lol).
    I ended up going back to college learning bookkeeping and finance just so I had a career and income while I worked myself out. I now at the age of 30 know exactly what I want to do. Something that was never even an option at school and something until a few years ago I didn't realise what an actually viable Job.
    I am going to be a Jeweller, it's a hobby atm but I will make it a career because I love it so much. I think if schools offered advice, guidance and included all the options to kids a lot of people would find there path much quicker and be happier (maybe they offer this now but they didn't when I was at school). BTS actually inspired me to go for my dream and apply for a Jewellers course... I can only do it part time because I need an income but it's a start. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

    I also started learning Korean to better understand the lyrics! However, it does take a lot of time. I would recommend Doolset to get the most accurate translations as well as clarification when the boys refer to Korean culture that may be hard for an outsider to understand💜

    Hangul is very easy to learn. The Korean language can be difficult for western people to understand as the structure is different. I am 49 years old and I learned it. I would consider myself intermediate. I understand a lot but I don't have great pronunciation. There is a lot of difference between translation and the actual meaning behind what is being said.

    Most fans of kpop own CD players. :) Kpop albums are collectable items. They are beautifully designed and usually come with special little things like posters, photo cards, stickers, etc. BTS albums also usually come with a little booklet of Notes related to their Bangtan Universe storyline.

    Your t-shirt game is amazing every time! I realised people were right about bts a while back, but I'm only learning about their background recently, and it breaks my heart. Happy to learn with you x

    One more thing...I think you might really love their live performance of Magic Shop. It sums up their relationship with ARMY, in my opinion.

    I am 48 year old UK 🇬🇧 ARMY. I discovered them in Sept 2020 and have been diving down the rabbit hole since then. Their sincerity, message and abilities make me love them. Has anyone mentioned that they not only write incredible lyrics but there is also a fictional storyline that runs through MVs across albums, web room, mobile game, notebooks etc. Xceleste also does explanations of that if you are interested. That is a very deep dive though.....

    Learning hangul (the writing system) is definitely pretty easy. It's very logical and mostly accurate to how it's pronounced (of course there are some irregularities, but nowhere close to English 😂). Other than that, once you watch enough BTS content and look at lyric translations, you might pick up a few words that they use often. I still don't really understand what they're saying, but often there will be a word that pops up and I get excited because I understand that 😂. I also got really used to the sound and cadence of the language, so it's easier for me to hear the words I've learned in a speech.

    You might be one of the BEST reactors I’ve ever seen on RUclips. This is high praise as I’ve seen prob a thousand different reaction channels in the past. After only watching a handful of your videos, you’ve quickly risen to the top in my book. I hope you can continue this man. You’re legit one of the first channels I’d consider donating to on Patreon and I think I will. Keep it up brother, you’re awesome!

    I listened to BSB, *NSYNC, and other boy band but there’s no other groups like BTS. This is the only group that unite my family including my husband, daughters (32 and 14) and sons (18 and 28) because of the different genres
