When I was little in the early 1970's there was an elderly black couple that lived on Riverside Dr. He was a tinker/fix it man. He told a story of when he was very young he said his mother was a cook on one of the flat barges docked in the river. They housed workers and brought in supplies. He said when he was little he could walk from Sistersville to Paden City, 3 miles up river, using the barges. He said they touched end to end. His feet never touched the water. We're talking about the Ohio River, people! . . . At that time Sistersville was known from New York to New Orleans. Fact!... Excellent job on the video BTW!!

Thank you for this video. My grandparents lived and ran Kernen's market in Bens Run so this was a blessing to watch. I am also kin to both Moses Spencer and Cecil Underwood.

I was born in the next county down, Doddridge. We lived in Salem for many years and then moved to Ohio. We would often go back for visits and I must have crossed in that ferry hundreds of times. We’d pass the Jug beer joint every time. I think you could a whole video about the Jug and how it got its name. Thanks for the memories.

It seems to me that former West Virginia University football coach Bill Stewart came from Sistersville.
