I have observed that the people of Kisumu City have embraced cooperation, even in the face of being asked to relocate. I haven’t heard of any demonstrations in Kisumu, even though residents in three estates were asked to move. There were no incidents of hooliganism. Even vendors selling in open markets along the roads eventually moved, with only minor resistance. Years ago, makeshift kiosks were cleared from the CBD, and now the city is reaping the benefits. In contrast, Nairobi’s chaos has been fueled by politics from Central Kenya. We need to allow the city to be cleaned up. The state of Wakulima Market and these old estates are pathetic, with unhygienic conditions, congestion, and increased traffic jams around the area. Why is it that Kikuyus seem to resist cleanliness? Look at Githurai-it’s a similar scene of chaos. We should remove politics from development, as Central Province appears to be lagging behind in providing affordable housing and amenities.
This place is not depressing ni vile Kanjo can’t grab that land so it’s controlled population. No building high rise estates. Which is a good thing they are able to preserve the heritage of Jeri/ Salem. I hope it stays that way juu there is a lot of history in those houses since mau mau days
