- A unique Chaat that is actually made of a Dal and is named after the city it comes from!
This Chaat is made of moong dal and is said to have been created for Murad Baksh, the third son of Emperor Shah Jehan, who set up the city of Moradabad back in 1625.
I find it extremely comforting in the Monsoons.
It is ‘Chatpata’ yet very light on the stomach!
And you can build it to your taste too!
Just skip the butter and the Dieters, Diabetics, Heart Patients can easily enjoy this Chaat!

Recipe :
Dal Moradabadi
Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Cooking Time: 30 minutes
Serves: 4
Recipe Ingredients:
1 cup yellow moong dal
½ tsp turmeric powder
A pinch of asafoetida
2 cups of water
For Tempering
4 tsp ghee
4-5 whole red chilies
A pinch of asafoetida
Garnish
1 tsp butter
1 onion fine chopped
½ cup chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
1 inch ginger juliness
¼ tsp black salt
¼ tsp chat masala
A pinch of roasted cumin powder
1-2 green chillies
1 tbsp lemon juice
Recipe Method:
Wash and soak dal for half an hour.
In a pressure cooker, put soak dal, turmeric powder, a pinch of asafoetida and 2 cups of water. Cook for 3-4 whistles.dal should me mushy.
Heat 4 tsp of desi ghee add 4-5 red whole chillies in it cook till it give good fragrance then add a pinch of asafoetida.
Take yellow dal in an individual bowl as per portion and 1 tsp tempering over it and then top it with butter, some chopped onion, tomatoes, coriander leaves, ginger juliennes, black salt, chat masala, roasted cumin powder, chopped green chillies and lemon juices.
Serve hot

Pankaj ji I'm from Moradabad.. Just want to tell you that termaric is not used in this recipe.. This dal is just boiled with salt. heeng and little ghee or butter. It's the simplest dish which is considered healthy as well as tasty. Thanks for the video

Hello ma'am I am from Moradabad and thaks for sharing the food haritage of our city but authentic moradabadi dal is little bit different from your preparations instead of onion and tomatoes we are using fresh coriander chutney and chat masala is replace with garam masala..😊
I am from moradabad. This dal is eaten fondly with jalebis. But this is not the original moradabadi dal. We don't add onion and timatoes.
