    STORYLINE:
Nigerian police fired tear gas at protesters on Thursday as they rallied against the country’s worst cost-of-living crisis in a generation.
Carrying placards and bells, protesters demanded better standards of living, saying they will "come out every day." They were met with a heavy security presence on the streets of Lagos.
Nigeria’s public officials, frequently accused of corruption, are among the best paid in Africa, a stark contrast in a country that, despite being one of the continent’s top oil producers, also has some of the world’s poorest and hungriest people.
Saidat Remilekun, a mother of a three-year-old at the protest, said she could not afford produce at the market for her child, pleading with the government to find a solution.
Daudu Durotimi, another protester, said the marches would not stop until every Nigerian could "enjoy a similar life or a better life than even countries across the world who don't have half of the resources that we have."
Thousands of mostly young people poured onto the streets across Nigeria, including in the capital Abuja, on Thursday to protest.
