    Hey Fasty. Great little video. Tried this myself and found volumes such a pain plus wires unplugging etc. Love to see how you fitted all these thick wires on your helmet.
    I have another solution if you have deep pockets that is to buy another cardo and run the speaker into the gopro. 2 cardos one does all the mic work and team sounds and other just for Gopro audio. Basically deletes all the wires you just mentioned. Would require a cardo on both sides of your helmet. Anyway great video all the best

    • @FastyRides
      @FastyRides  2 года назад +1

      Hi Tony. That is a great idea, 2 cardos, 1 doing all the recording, you could actually keep that in your pocket. I know Crazylegsonabike has 2 cardos. I will forward your message onto him. The 2 fat cables. 1 went under a cheek pad. the other I had to dremel out a channel in the foam and pressed it into it. I know its not a great solution but the only one I could find. I connect my Action camera, Drift Innovation 4K Ghost, to an additional Car do Packtalk unit. No Mic on this unit. The camera can be mounted off the helmet, on a soft mount. That and in camera stabilizatiin do a good job. The Cardo unit mounted according to audio cable length and best location. The result is that whole if group conversations etc are captured on the drift, all the same quality audio if range is adhered to. A second Drift Ghost set as a clone of the "Master" unit is mounted separately and that captures a different image and the ambient noise. Use a sharp noise like a flapper board to align audio during edit and then footage, both video and audio can be managed to get a very good outcome.

    Great video, I don’t have a Cardo but have the Sena 30K. Does the Cardo not have side tone? With Sena you can enable side tone for the Sena mic to push through your speakers. Great 👍🏻 instruction video. Music sounds great, be good to hear when you are talking to another Cardo as a few in our group did exactly the same setup but the Cardo audio from another rider sounds like they are in a tin can, audio was very poor but music was clean. Be good to see if used different leads to them and it sounds better. I binned off the audio of the talking as it was too poor quality.

    • @FastyRides
      @FastyRides  2 года назад

      Yes I agree, the audio from other Cardos is a little poor. Also if there is a big group connected its kind of a donk fest, you cant tell who's talking. making it a nightmare for editing. I think 4 people max is fine. Also I think it comes down to other peoples helmets too, i.e if there is a lot of wind noise because they have there visor cracked open. I might have a play around in Davinci, see if I can improve the audio of connected cardos. Thanks mate. FastyRides

    Interesting vid thank you. I've previously tried recording my wife's audio via the Cardo and to be honest the quality just isn't there. There is also the issue of loosing all those cables and connectors inside the helmet.

      the cables are an issue. and they are bulky. I managed to stuff one under the cheek pad and the other across the top of the helmet. I am a fan of the rode go but they are very expensive And i dont think It would work for me with having 4 riders in my group of friends. Great breakdown of the setup man, thank you! I've been searching for someone to do this as I'm in the market of replacing my old Sena 10c and seriously looking at Cardo Packtalk Black. However as I expected, there's the jumble of wires one needs to contend with while doing this to combine the best video of the GoPro and audio of the Cardo. Which is really where my Sena 10c shines. The biggest downside to the Sena (even with the latest iteration, the Evo) really is the lack of image stabilization. That's why I might hold off just a bit when the brand new 50c gets launched as it's been reported by Bike world to finally have that missing piece which imho will definitely be a game changer

    • @FastyRides
      @FastyRides  7 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, answer to your first question is, depends on how sensitive your microphone is, i.e My HAMA mic is really low sensitive so it mostly pics up my voice. But a purple panda mic would here a lot more wind noise and engine note. Also it depends on your helmet, is it a noisy helmet or a premium helmet that is known for being quite. Hi Duncan - this is a great idea - albeit more expensive. If I understand correctly, a 2nd Cardo is on your helmet (as part of the mesh connected to Cardo#1 and others), and the headphone Left & Right outputs of Cardo #2 are connected directly to GoPro MIC in (say on a Hero 10 Media Mod). And I assume there is no need for any microphone to be connected to Cardo #2 (that is your voice is via the Cardo #1 microphone and 'piped' to Cardo #2 via BT mesh). Can you please confirm if my understanding is correct. Also did you need to use a 2 channel (L & R) attenuator between Cardo #2 headphone output to the GoPro MIC input ? or did you find the GoPro automatic gain controller handled things OK (ie: no clipping of audio) ? I can see another benefit being no need for any post editing of the sound recorded and no need for RAW setting to be enabled. Looking forward to your reply. Thanks

      @@sritter Good day Steve,
      I have the extra (No.2) Cardo Packtalk mounted off the helmet, in my case in one of the glove boxes with a charging cable connection if required. I had made a "table" over the dash with a slide on/off mount and used the slide on helmet mount, also had the camera mounted on this but reflections of the windscreen a problem even with Circular Polarizing Filter. The Camera is now mounted forward with a clamp going into near the mirror mount. The Cameras I am using are Drift Innovation 4K+. Be aware, if you power the Cardo unit, you need to turn it on AFTER turning on the power (in my case the ignition). If it is already on and then the power turned on, the unit will be powered off and thus not part of the "Mesh". There is not microphone plugged into the "interface" Cardo. In fact not desirable as this would feed back into the Mesh.
      The outlet to the speaker from Cardo is via a M/M 3.5mm TPS cable plugs into the split adapter cable from Drift. This has a long tail to USB A - Male (Power supply) and a mono Audio cable - Female. The plug to the camera is USB mini. five wires, +ve, -ve, two data and one continuity. At the point of connection between Cardo Packtalk and the Cable I have a stereo splitter and into that I also plug a small microphone, place the microphone out of the air flow but to pick up some ambient background noise (engine etc). As a word of caution - don't hard wire a stereo circuit(s) to mono. The stereo is two discrete circuits and connection together in such a manner will damage them. TPS plugs handle this as combined return but separate audio inputs
      The Audio inputs to the Camera are one supply from the Cardo - conversations and any other sound that is being transmitted via Cardo, and the Microphone for ambient. control the Volume of the converssation etc using the roller volume control on the cardo. I put this on my helmet and check that it is acceptable but turning on the radio (recorded music from say the phone is OK if it has been "Normalized". If not some is louder than others and you may get a poor result of you conversations etc. The Microphone, - just make sure it is not too near the motor, or too far away - you may need to does some test runs.
      Overall the results I am getting are excellent. I use the audio direct, only need to now cut both video and audio to get a good result. I use Edius and multicam set up, that makes the first cut very quick and easy. Then the only other audio requirement if you add voice over, music etc is to normalize prior to outputting, I do this near the end of the edit.
      The Drift can be fitted with the larger battery and this give a very good run time, from memory about 5 hours on 4K and about 7.5hours on 1080. I use 1080 as that is the best i can get onto disc - Blu-ray but I am exploring M disc, it can record 4K, but only to 50GB (double layer) from what I've learnt so far.
      I hope this is not too mixed up and can be understood. I had experimented with other possibilities, but this one is simple and does a great job.
      But the extra mesh unit and enjoy. Good luck

      @@duncangatland6021 Hi Duncan - thanks for the detailed reply - greatly appreciated and a great tip on permanent power to Cardo. I can see you have a different camera configuration (using Drift camera). Would you mind reviewing the below with your experience to make sure my understanding is correct.
      CONFIGURATION PROPOSED
      Primary Cardo Packtalk Bold unit with Cardo microphone and speakers / earphones connected for normal Cardo functions like group talk and Bluetooth audio to phone etc .. totally standard installation.
      Secondary (2nd) Cardo Packtalk Bold unit for connection to the GoPro Hero 10 or similar. This 2nd Cardo to NOT have a microphone connected. It will have its speaker output (a TRS socket) connected via a TRS Male to TRS Male cable plugged directly into the GoPro Hero 10 Media Mod audio input (TRS female). The left speaker channel of 2nd Cardo is effectively connected to the left microphone channel of the GoPro. Similarly right speaker channel of 2nd Cardo is effectively connected to the right microphone channel of the GoPro.
      Using this configuration, both the primary and secondary Cardo’s are connected to the same mesh (along with other riders) and all audio recorded via the GoPro is sourced from the speaker output of the 2nd Cardo acting as an interface device. The volume of the stereo audio input into the GoPro can be regulated / fine tuned if needed (in case of clipping etc …) by adjusting the roller volume adjustment on 2nd Cardo.
      OTHER QUESTIONS
      I have not tried yet, but do you believe the roller volume adjustment on the 2nd Cardo is sufficient and will eliminate any need for a ‘Line In to Microphone Attenuator’ between secondary Cardo and GoPro ?
      Can you double confirm there is no need for another microphone for this configuration (as I noted in your configuration you added an extra mic) - I was a little confused on that ?
      Using this direct approach I assume that the GoPro audio settings don’t need to be changed to RAW Audio ?
      (that is, the audio channel included as part of the GoPro MP4 video will have the stereo audio sourced via the GoPro 10 Media Mod audio input).
      Thanks again - looking forward to your reply. Steve

      @@sritter Steve, Without to know the operation of Go-Pro cf. Drift, and assuming that the audio in is the same for both, then this looks great. You may need to run a couple of trials with it to get the audio volume as you would like. but the volume control on the second Cardo works very well for my set up. Plus in Edius I can play with the audio from this one camera and increase or decrease all at once or where I want to in the time line. All other Audio as one wishes. Prior to printing to DVD I normalize in Edius, then check again that all is acceptable for volume
      I placed the second microphone via a splitter only to bring in some ambient noise, that is motorbike, or other traffic as the Cardo microphone mounted within the helmet is excellent for conversations and cancels this "external" noise out. This is not require to record the conversation. If there is another camera, this can be the ambient source...
      I some time speak with friends using Skype, WhatsApp, phone, etc and they have no idea I'm on the bike. On Drift there is no possibility to connect to RAW. My understanding is that RAW is uncompressed Video/Audio or both if the Go-Pro software is good, you should have very acceptable audio - and in your case Stereo cf. Mono.
      I trust this answered your questions. I'm sure it will work and you will be very happy with it, perhaps the exception being now picture and audio to consider when cutting video :)

      @@wojtekbaszak846 from Cardo I use a splitter - one going to JBL speakers for my ears, one going to generic earphones which is directed to the mic going to GPH9 - so the sounds recorded by my GPH9 is purely mechanical and not electronic anymore.

    Question. I did exactly that what you have done. Audio is on one side and the microphone is on the other side. Is everything mono with you or stereo??

      @@johnschotz1614 If you are talking about the audio track that is with the video in gopro, then yes this is correct. If you have imported the AUDIO track only which gopro makes when you have gopro raw on, then you have the breakout cable and splitter cable the wrong way round. Hope this helps, FastyRides

      in the gopro, you need to set the "Raw audio" to either low mid or high. Try each one to see which suits you best. Fasty-Rides

      Ive just read you meassage again. If you use 2 splitters you will get the effect you have. the breakout brings the 2 audio sources together and into one connector. But you have to use RAW audio in the gopro, so you have control of the 2 audio sources separately

    I found a much better solution to all the cables that are needed in the approach used here in this video. You can replace three cables with one. The splitter, jumper and attenuator with one cable. It is called "LIne to Mic, attenuator with headphone monitor".
    I tried to find this cable on the EU Amazon but couldn't. It is available here in the US. I bought this cable and installed my Cardo and now only have two cables (the Sterio separator and the new cable). It works great with less the mess. AND - for more fun I added a wireless mic transmitter and attached to my helmet (very small unit right next to my Cardo) and the receiver is with the mic adapter and my Hero 10 out in front of my windshield for great clutter free (no handlebar or windshield) video. This is one slick setup. Enjoy Fasty Rides. And here is the link: www.amazon.com/dp/B004VIOZSK?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
