Underrated now but not back then. One of the finest violinists to ever draw the bow. The science lies in the left hand but the art lies in the right🎻👍👍
I had the pleasure of performing with this great master twice with the Toledo Symphony where I played in the violin section for forty years. He sounds live just like his recordings. His powerful tone was like a bulldozer.
About 50 years ago someone had an extra ticket for one of his performances at the academy of music in Philadelphia they gave it to me I went I listened I cried.
DISCLAIMER: i like many violinists and love diff interpretations of this magnificent piece but damn this version by francescatti sheer superlative brilliance. others have commented on how he combines great sweetness of tone along w masculine power and that is spot on. i love how he builds to the finale and climax - goose bumps all the way
Beautiful, thank to Zino that he left this beautiful legacy to the Earth. Thought the sound of the violin itself also contains beauty, later I knew that this is sound of the one of Stradivari.
Grew up savoring this gorgeous recording! I inherited it, a vinyl record, from my father when he passed away last year. RIP Dad and thanks for a great classical music heritage.
This is incredible!!! By the middle of this piece I was freezing because of the chills and goosebumps it gives me. It is extremely diverse, it takes you from sadness and melancholy to thriving and feeling on the edge over and over again. Bravo, Maestro!
Forever Zino. And a nice guy too. My father heard him in Seattle back in the day, and he was the perfect French gentleman when he went backstage to meet him. I grew up listening to this recording. This is THE definitive recording.
I love the fact that he does NOT play the main theme heroically UNTIL the final pages--therefore it is more of an emotional peak where it belongs--at 8:57--the end. Although I love Heifetz and Oistrakh, this to me is the more caring and magical version.
Superb. The orchestration of Charlier's edition pulls the piece in the direction of Vaughan Williams (Fantasia on a Theme of Tallis) or even Tippett (Fantasia Concertante on a Theme of Corelli) - and after all, why not? As played since its "rediscovery" and heavily extrapolated edition by Ferdinand David in 1867, the piece was never "authentic" Vitali - but what a superb technique, luminous tone and passionate style Francescatti has.
Echt unvergleichlicher Violinist!
@MyDarkerstRose Yes, Ferdinand David made the largest of the revisions to the original Chaconne (Vitali himself wrote only the bass line), and it was further revised by Charlier.
He has an incredibly rich, warm and full sound and a superb musicality. While Heifetz´ version is very "crisp", clear and "sharp" which also is interesting, it does not have the warmth of Zino Francescattis interpretation. Why did it take so long till I stumbled on a recording of his?
Yes, the Sarah Chang recording is really good, and I normally don't recommend her. I heard it on a classical station and was shocked to learn it was her.
What is this? This is beautiful. This reminds me of books and stormy nights, of pizza when i'm high, of staying as a kid at my grandparents little rustic house in a blizzard and sleeping near the fireplace while the cat was tucked at my feet. This is great.
Zino was the very first classical violinist I heard on records. Very great fiddler he was indeed. His dad studied with Sivori who in turn studied for a little while with Paganini.
@calloffthedogs i guess i only cared to listen to him after reading ur expressive comment XD, but i do agree this song is very powerful and forlorn at times.
@MyDarkerstRose there's dispute over that, some call it a muical host. This piece was very different from Vitali's style and also it had several modern elements not seen in his era like changing the key signature.
@tudoryka79 I think the reason my original comment is so highly rated is because it shows that two players can sound completely different and have totally different styles and yet sound equally artistic and beautiful. Now let me ask you something: Who do you think is dumber, the "American" who finds great beauty in two completely different interpretations or you (wherever you're from) who is completely close-minded to one style of playing? I'll let you sleep on that one.
Underrated now but not back then. One of the finest violinists to ever draw the bow. The science lies in the left hand but the art lies in the right🎻👍👍

he’s my great grand uncle!!!
@@merthurcanon О!

Best interpretation ever !!!
Francescatti always one of my favorite violinist. His vibrato is so intense and deep :P
Beautiful, thank to Zino that he left this beautiful legacy to the Earth. Thought the sound of the violin itself also contains beauty, later I knew that this is sound of the one of Stradivari.

My heart stopped at 4.00min, those high notes ahead of perfection. We miss you Zino!
This is so beautiful I almost want to cry
This is MAGNIFICENT. What a power house. I've never even heard of this gentleman. I am so glad I found him.
He is my favorite violinist, thanks for sharing this!

Wonderful comment.

Bravo bravo bravo brilliance fantastic grandiose genial music
My favorite rendition
Still my favorite version of this piece on RUclips!!!
Chills. I am speechless.
I have this on Vinyl wow wow wow Zino was one of the sweetest players in the world.
Best interpretation ever!!!

this record helped me out in difficult times. gave strength. thanks to Zino, thanks to the one who saved this performance for us.
Absolutely, the TOP of Vitali's Ciaccona... great feeling shivers!!
Heard this on Classic FM yesterday and wanted to hear it again - wonderful, thank you for uploading. :-)
Heard him play this in Cincinnati. He was old but had a sound...oh what a sound. Strad!!!
I love the fact that he does NOT play the main theme heroically UNTIL the final pages--therefore it is more of an emotional peak where it belongs--at 8:57--the end.
Although I love Heifetz and Oistrakh, this to me is the more caring and magical version.
Great thanks!
That record is the one of two or three which most impressed me in my childhood. And I didn't hear it for 20 years!
Great!!!
My favorite version....wonderful...
omg this is just perfect
Beautiful, the orchestra behind him gave me the chills.
Woke up to this piece of music on Classic FM this morning - a truly beautiful piece of music, a real stunner
My favourite version.
So beautiful and communicates so much in his playing. Perfect ❤️
Zino what a legenend all his his double stops on point!
The most beautiful entrance of this Chaconne
BRAVO!!!
Hoy ya no nacen musicos como él.
O my god...i got goose bumps
Are you kidding? This is on par with Heifetz! This is SUPER EMOTIONAL

It's interesting how masterpieces played by masters are beautiful in their own way :)

Francescatti was at one time assistant concertmaster of the Concerts Poulet orchestra, led by Gaston Poulet, father of Gerard Poulet.
This is how Eastern European happiness sounds like.
Zino ¡¡¡ belleza total ¡¡¡
Magnifico
so honorable to hear this!

Yes, the Sarah Chang recording is really good, and I normally don't recommend her. I heard it on a classical station and was shocked to learn it was her.

go away
Why does he have to go away? He explained how the piece made him feel, and what it reminded him off. What's wrong with that?

although I'm a fanatic of heifetz, I have to say that this guy might have done it more justice.
It is so easy to be fanatic of Heifetz lol
LOVE it!
In my head
Bravo
Che bella musica. Io amo al mio violino. :3

Best recording of this song... fucking period!
Perfect itself!

We hear very little of the "Little Frenchman"'s output these days. I grew up on his Columbia recordings.
@calloffthedogs YOU are so correct~
