  • One of the unique characteristics of bipolar disorder is mania, where a person experiences intense highs where they feel overly happy, energetic and sometimes even irritable. These episodes can significantly impact a person's behaviour and judgement, leading to risky and impulsive decisions.
Noora Juma'at was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 23. While the diagnosis brought her clarity and comfort, it also sparked fear of the stigma associated with mental health conditions. With the support of her care team and loved ones, she embarked on a journey of understanding and acceptance.
Today, as a peer support specialist at IMH, she draws from her personal journey to connect with peers in recovery, providing psychoeducation and empowering them to make decisions for their well-being.
