Known as a right whale because during the height of whaling efforts, this was the ‘right’ whale to catch, as it is large, slow-moving and floats when dead. This whale is easy to identify as it has a uniformly dark colour with white callosities (outgrowths of hard skin) on and around the head which can even be used to distinguish individuals. The body is rotund and the head is very large, making up one third of the total length.

Actually, they're southern "right whales." The name was given to the species by 19th century whalers who were convinced that it was the "right" whale to hunt, since when they were killed they floated instead of sinking. Fortunately, today they're hunted with cameras rather than with harpoons.

animaljp3 Hello, I actually researched it because it's too bizarre -- it's the first time I heard this stabbing method of mating by cockroaches or any insect, actually -- and so far, the insects that are most often mentioned to stab their females are the bed bugs and bat bugs... The cockroaches' mating process is pretty tame...

We could easily cater for ourselves in the Uk but we import food as there is precious little profit in British farming.
