Just imagine selling: - Drunk acting - Putting on an accent - Playing a character with idiosyncrasies - Remembering how the wedding speech is supposed to go - Remembering the distortions on the wedding speech All at the same time and topped off by the hilarious drunken sit down at the end. The guy was a genius
RB also wrote a lot of his stuff so I believe. He was modest so he used a nom de plume in the credits. Truly a wonderful man, fine actor & legendary comedian. RIP.
Ronnie Barker was a versatile and quite brilliant comedian in a class of his own. This short clip is a wonderful example! We don't make them like him these days.
Just to be able to remember all those distorted phrases and put them together in such a convincing drunken sequence is pure genius! What a great talent he was. Now all we get are schlock American sitcoms with pre-recorded laughter telling us 'Hey that line must be funny because someone is laughing at it!?'
how did he do it without bursting out laughing ,,hes a pure genius god there were great funny people when i was a kid back in the 1970s ,, Harry Worth the Two Ronnies,, Benny Hill ,, John Cleese ,basil Fawty,, Mrs Bucket and so many more wounderful people that kept our TV screens alive in the dark days way back thank you to you all
How often have we all attended a wedding when we've had one too many and had to make that speech to the happy couple and well n truly put our foot in it..... Ronnie dear you have nailed it here. Good one! xxxx
I feel it is just about impossible to beat this type of sense of humour or indeed acting, Ronnie ...well the 2 were so funny, Benny Hill, JC (the) John Cleese, Rowan Atkinson etc... Long may they live!!
I absolutely loved Ronnie Barker, he a long with Ronnie Corbet and all the others who made me see life as they saw life through their humour, which became my humour as I watched his various sitcoms as a teenager way back when ...
Hilarious! Bride is obviously pregnant and groom looks increasingly embarrassed ! Agreed to marry Alice as she was expecting !!! Much success to Arthur with the bridesmaids !!! This really is SO funny !!!😂🙃😂🥳
My cousin and I met him back 1993 while running an antique shop in chipping norton Oxfordshire!! A very nice man indeed no airs or Grace's that he was so famous!! A perfect gentleman!!!!
Absolutely right. I met him when I was 7. I was friends with his son at school. Ronnie and his wife took us to see Crackerjack and we met Leslie Crowther and Peter Glaze afterwards.
Well now I know where the Irish comedian Brendan Grace and Rowan Atkinson got their inspiration for their own drunken wedding speech sketches, from the wonderful Ronnie Barker.
@@johnking5174 thank you john also have a look at Mrs Browns boys and Father ted ,, im sure Ted was on in England as they wouldnt put it on at the time here with censorship if my memory serves me correct , say hello any time its good to hear the stories
I have a daughter, though I could never do this! I'm not funny enough, and get embarrassed when in front of lots of people.Dont know how I'll be when I give her away to marriage!
Reminds me of a real-life speech, by a soon-to-be bride's tipsy sister: "Bob's done a lot of things to my sister..." (Everyone laughing) "I mean, a lot of things FOR my sister."
Lmao...we have all experienced listening to some drunkard trying to make a speech and toast. Barker does it better than anyone ever could. Comic genius he was.
One toooooo many beers, glasses of champagne n whiskeys and then the bloody speech..... and ya brain n tongue don't work - going their seperate ways and ya just jabbering on n on n on making a right fool of yourself!🤣👍
Brilliant wasn't it. The best TV drunk I have ever seen was in the film 'Rita, Sue and Bob too'. When Rita's father returns home from the pub. Just type in 'rita sue drunk father' into the search bar and enjoy!
American humour? fake like them.......................Cant beat the English. Love thy Neighbour, Only Fools and Horses, Raising Damp, Porridge......... I can go on and onand of course, "mind your language...................
I'm British. Our Comedy Golden Era was the 70's and 80's. We'll never have the like of the 2 ronnies or Monty Python again. It's changed for the worse now. That's why I'll always find myself coming back to classic clips like this. It's too PC these days. Fawlty Towers is another classic if you haven't heard of it. And Dad's Army...I could list tons of the classics.
In an age where Political Correctness wasn't even a twinkle in the eye of the non-entity that subsequently decided that it might be a good idea.... Barker delivers as he always did, & he's not even an Obstetrician....
The brilliant RB! Still hilarious. I just wonder how many of those old-fashioned phrases are even intelligible to younger folk nowadays. 'In the family way', 'confinement', 'had it away'? All very 1960s. Makes me feel old.
I was brought up in Australia watching British comedy. There were so many gems and the Two Ronnies were one of my very favourites.

Brilliant.
Comedy and wit at a Shakespearean level.
Slurred diction perfect .
Belly laughs.
Feel blessed to have been raised on this humour! Naughty but never offensive. Loved them all. Benny Hill et al:)
It was a golden age of comedy alright.
Yep . Always Brahms & Lizst !
Yes they were all brilliant sadly gone now will never be like it again
I was born in '85 and was still blessed with all this... Two Ronnies is timeless; the newer generations need to be educated to it

What a genius. A superb wordsmith. I’m glad I grew up with this humour. No pc crap.
Great British comedy, as it once was and still should be, today on the 10th of July 2022!
Of all the wonderful work the Two Ronnies have given us I consider this to be the finest of them all
How often have we all attended a wedding when we've had one too many and had to make that speech to the happy couple and well n truly put our foot in it..... Ronnie dear you have nailed it here. Good one! xxxx
As best man at my brothers wedding, I told everyone that when we were kids, he used to sleep and pee in my bed 😂
The interplay of the English words are wonderful ' a man of lechery, is also lecturer at a university ' .
This drunken speech is actually better than my old man's drunken speech.
Lov yer , darling x
A classic sketch showcasing RB’s phenomenal talent.
The facial expressions on Ronnie’s face are priceless.

Am I the only one here who keeps coming back and watching these episodes over and over when feeling depressed?
Generate's the good old days and that feel good feeling
Danny Corleon I can watch them forever! 😆
With you brother.
NO!
Danny Corleon no, many of us do
Sheer perfection from one of our greatest ever comic actors.
Oh lordy this had me in tears. This is the speech I would like to have given when I did my father of the bride speech.
Ronnie Barker was comedy genius, nobody holds a candle to him today

I think watching these British comedies as a kid gave me a real sense of the ridiculous too. There was a lot of them and they were pure gold.
In my opinion probably one of the funniest , if not the funniest, comedians of the 20th century.
Are you the Alan Hayward? Have you ever been drunk?!!

True comedy without the interference and absurdity of political correctness. Pure genius.

Massive respect from me to Ronnie Barker, who sleeps with the angels. Haven’t seen this sketch before. He does a good drunk 🤣🤣🤣

true statement
Same here. Comedy is no more.
Hale and Pace also
I find modern comedy since the late 90s to be more embarrassing and cringe worthy.
@Michele Johnson I only really laughed out loud at Mrs brown's boys and that was when she was in the cupboard under the stairs doing a bikini wax
One of the best two sketches ever!😊
Just brilliant.
Can't get comedy like this now
How can I listen to this over again and laugh harder the second time ? What a killer !

The humor of The Two Ronnies is eternal.
I've mentioned it before somewhere, but RB is right up there with Arthur Lowe when it comes to pulling off playing the drunk convincingly.
