I have to disagree about the moral. The other characters had their cutie marks switched around. They were being forced to fill roles that didn't fit their personalities. Round peg, square hole, and all that. Twilight becoming an alicorn, on the other hand, feels more like a metaphor for growing up. She's taking on new responsibilities. She's no longer a student but she can go to Celestia for advice. Heck, she's even a little taller. So the moral still works. My opinion.
One thing I did really like about this episode is that it does show what Pinkie's talent does for everyone in Ponyville. She's not just a goofball, well she is but in being so she keeps everyone's spirits up. Shown by how happy everyone was to have her back to normal.
They were hinting at this since the season 1 two part pilot. i mean COME ON! why else would her element of harmony be a crown instead of a necklace like the other? ornate necklace and other trinkets meant nobility in ancient times, where as a crown meant royalty. and royalty meant alicorns in equestria, of course excluding the male royalty. so i CAN say that i saw this coming since a long time ago. it only makes sense because of the symbolism in a show full of symbolic meaning.
I don't think you understood the message of this episode. The message is that you shouldn't judge destiny one way or the other. Sometimes accepting it can lead to your downfall, but that doesn't mean you should refuse it at every opportunity. If someone told you, that you were destined for greatness, that doesn't mean greatness needs to be avoided, and likewise, if someone told you that you were destined for failure, that doesn't mean you have to go out of your way to become a failure. So no, the message is not hypocritical.

i would say that the moral is actually complete as the first part of this episode shows that you should not blindly accept destiny while the second half shows that you should not blindly refuse destiny either

I really think the biggest issue with this is episode was that it was a 2 part story rushed into one episode. It would've been better if they granted for screen time to this episode.
I just played around with the video play speed and I think 0.75 and 0.25 are close, just neededs some adjustments, and depends on what your looking for in a jumpscare.

Hey Josh, Have you ever considered doing an MLP crossover review with The Mysterious Mr. Enter? I'd pay money to see how your thoughts and his thoughts on certain episodes would differ and overall it would be a good video.
Ignoring the fact that I'd kill to see those two collab, I'm not sure how it'd work. I mean, Josh's review style is more in the vein of the Nostalgia Critic, while Mr. Enter focuses a lot more on criticism than comedy, and never shows his face in the reviews. Not insurmountable, but someone'd have to step out of their usual style.

(and she puts some spicy sauce on cupcakes... and probably most fond of spicy hot of every pony... though I guess Spike might stand it, being a dragon and all...) Anyway the animals were hungry. RD didn't feed them so they decided to eat her. Until FS came to feed them that is... For Twilight it was about helping friends. For the others... Roleswitch was a good lesson for them. First shows what they see in the pony whose role they play, but in their way... and completely failing.

The only problem that I had with this episode is that the part where she becomes an alicorn seems like it comes out of nowhere. It kind of feels like two half-episodes jammed together. And to me, I don't feel all that proud of her for saving her friends. Like, if she had become an alicorn after saving Equestria/a kingdom like she has before, this would have been a lot more heartfelt than it already was, and made us feel even more proud of her. But all she does is f*ck up, fix what she f*cked up, and then suddenly becomes an alicorn for it. I feel like this was a random plot point that they had and they just decided to pair it with a random episode. :/

I think this is a metaphor to something I've thought about a lot lately. Being the size u am I got bullied a lot verbally and in rare occasions physically, one pattern I have noticed in bullying is the bully wants you to change some thing about yourself making you think the change will make you happy or happier than your current state. I found when I tried to change myself to stop the hate I was more miserable than before so I went back and decided to take the hate in stride. This made me grow just like twilight has grown for guiding her friends back to who they are and what were under the influence of magic that could be considered dark. Just my thought but if you don't agree that's okay no one should make you change who you are because of Their idea if what the world should be.
hey Josh, when it comes to the number of songs put into this episode. i think that was done to make up for the lack of songs in the rest of the season cause aside from this episode only 2 of them had songs in them in all of season 3, so i think some of the songs such as the sad song Twilight sang were used to put in more songs for the season.
Josh, I respect you very thoroughly, but you had one mistake in this. The Elements of Harmony are being kept with Twilight after the episode "Keep Calm and Flutter On", where Celestia (I've never tried to spell her name, so I have no idea is that's right) gives Twilight the Elements in case Discord tries to attack again.

I really love the point you made about the hypocrisy of a destiny being forced on Twilight. This episode would have been so much better had Twilight been training to be a princess from the start or if she had the choice to become a princess when Celestia said she was ready. I also think it's a hypocrisy that the problem with the spell was: one's destiny "alone fulfilled," and yet performing the fixed spell with "the marks of our destinies made one" only revealed Twilight's higher destiny.

Mr Enter made a fairly good point about the issue of destiny in relation to this episode. In essence, the first part shows that you don't have to follow the path set out before you; the second part shows that you shouldn't necessarily ignore it either. You need to decide for yourself whether you follow the path in front of you or go a different way

hey Josh, when it comes to the number of songs put into this episode. i think that was done to make up for the lack of songs in the rest of the season cause aside from this episode only 2 of them had songs in them in all of season 3, so i think some of the songs such as the sad song Twilight sang were used to put in more songs for the season.
Josh, I respect you very thoroughly, but you had one mistake in this. The Elements of Harmony are being kept with Twilight after the episode "Keep Calm and Flutter On", where Celestia (I've never tried to spell her name, so I have no idea is that's right) gives Twilight the Elements in case Discord tries to attack again.

I honestly hated it when twilight became an alicorn. I get that shes the main character but it felt like when she became an alicorn that the show was rewarding her way too much and forgetting about the rest of the mane 6
I don't mind that she became a princess but could they at least gave her a choice.

I really love the point you made about the hypocrisy of a destiny being forced on Twilight. This episode would have been so much better had Twilight been training to be a princess from the start or if she had the choice to become a princess when Celestia said she was ready.
I also think it's a hypocrisy that the problem with the spell was: one's destiny "alone fulfilled," and yet performing the fixed spell with "the marks of our destinies made one" only revealed Twilight's higher destiny.

It's much better as a flashback than it would be as a prologue because of how exposition works. A story first makes the audience curious and the gives the explanation.
The reason for the series finale thing was because the WAS originally going to be the finale until mlp got renewed for season 4
Mr Enter made a fairly good point about the issue of destiny in relation to this episode. In essence, the first part shows that you don't have to follow the path set out before you; the second part shows that you shouldn't necessarily ignore it either. You need to decide for yourself whether you follow the path in front of you or go a different way
