I thought Kenny would've become what Dolph did especially with his size.

You can get that untapped if you have kids.....🤷
Kenny Dykstra was absolutely underrated
Tell that to Mickey James after she cheated on him by having an affair with John Cena, which destroyed his single run and push.
I can't argue with his physical capabilities but he was still kinda of a big joke in the spirit squad but I don't think that he would be a nice guy pissed off infact probably terrifying
@Marquiss Mason mickey has that crazy girl personality
@@corysmith564 that makes no sense lol
@@jeffamell3501 To you only but not to anyone else
Rewatching all of their matches has made me realize how the company viewed the faction.
1. They obviously viewed Mikey as the most reliable worker as he was in almost every match and was in first for the gauntlet.
2. They viewed Kenny as the star and leader of the group as the youngest and largest of the five.
3. Johnny seemed to be someone who they had some confidence in as his karate kick seemed to be used as a finish a lot
4. God damn it seems like they hated Nicky, he was always taking pins and getting eliminated early.
5. Mitch was obviously the worst. He barely competed and I remember hearing how bad he was at the time.
Crazy how Dolph is an incredible wrestler now seeming as he was the 2nd weakest guy in this group.
I think they had Nicky getting beaten up all the time because they worked out he was a good seller, which has always been Dolph's problem. but, yes, he really wasn't that good back that (or not allowed to be?)
@@mattparnall4148 Dolph, Miz, and Ricochet are cursed with being great at getting beat up
And the Spirit Squad wasn't even Nick Nameth's first gimmick. He debuted as a caddie for Kerwin White (aka Chavo Guererro Jr.)

A terrible gimmick, but they utilized the trampoline better than Sin Cara ever did.
Also even with being saddled with such an awful gimmick, they certainly played it with great enthusiasm. DX was pure cringe at this point...
When wasn’t DX cringe?
its an unfortunate gimmick but people had some sort of reaction to it bad or good. ziggler just flops around now looks like an athlete but doesnt sell tickets

It was amazing when he did it back in the 80s but im shocked he was still taking that bump in the 2000s. thats insane
That trampoline is pretty cool, those bulldogs into the ring are sick!
Also, slight correction: They lost the tag belts at Cyber Sunday to Ric Flair and Roddy Piper, not Flair and Duggan.

What a random and bizarre comparison 😅
At least guys in the Spirit Squad could actually work. JTG was good but Shad was the shits and green as grass
@Kwame brown and Jim cornette burner accountMNM were way better than Cryme Tyme tbh. Awesome entrance, good gimmick, good wrestlers and Melina was not a bad promo either.
Triple H face when Edge tagged him: I'm not mad I'm just disappointed
Those early 2000s, the crowds were huge, started noticing the crowds shrinking by like 2012. Even pre covid the crowds were shrinking,
Well isn't everything before 2019/ 2020 pre covid?
Wrestling changed to be what internet fans wanted, the opposite of what normal people want. AEW is showing the niche isn't enough to have a successful company. WWF just was nothing anyone wanted, dominated for years by boring guys who never went away. HHH dominated the product for 20 years 🥱 wwf used to know refreshing your top stars is what made them take over from WCW but they never found anyone decent again that had appeal to casual fans and never had a storyline again that normal people cared about, based on something that reaches fans beyond wrestling. Austin v McMahon was a boss Vs the employee - people can relate. The bloodline or whatever nonsense it is now only appeals to hardcore wrestling fans. Other people just don't care and it's as much of a joke to have cody as a face as it was to have HHH. It just doesn't work for people who don't absolutely love WWF.
They also constantly brought the old guys back for a cheap boost, making the new guys look rubbish in comparison and never allowing them to get traction. Imagine if 90s wwf brought back Hogan in the red and yellow for a few matches every year and he was all over the product along with a rotating cast of other 80s guys. The 90s guys never would have got over as it would have never been something new.
He became Dolph Ziggler, but I don't think the joke thing ever really went away, unfortunately.
True
@Kwame brown and Jim cornette burner account i thought it was a reference to the 'Boogie Nights' character Dirk Diggler
He debuted as Dolph first when he was Chavo's caddie during the Kerwin White gimmick. After that gimmick was dropped when Eddie died, he was ent back to OVW and then came back a few months later as Nicky of the Spirti squad.
Damn you beat me to it😢
He did win the heavyweight championship, dude was over af with Big E and AJ in his corner. Then had that unfortunate concussion. He was also over as hell again during the Authority angle when he was the loan survivor but then Stephanie and HHH buried him immediately.
"Party" Marty Jannetty then gets fired for failing the wellness test once again. Poor Marty, the guy has serious issues .
I think he holds the record for being fired the most times from WWE.

@@bigkj2.027 what?
Jesus...Kenny Dykstra is only 35 years old now. Back then he was huge, looked great in the ring and seemed to have some mic skills and charisma for a 20 year old. Too bad Cena wanted his girlfriend and then wanted him out of the fed for being sore that he stole his girlfriend.
He also retired last year which is sad. Out of all the guys, we had to be stuck with the goofiest one in WWE.
Kenny's top rope leg drop should've been booked like a huge finisher just like the RKO.
They did have some nice stylish moves and combinations, but unfortunately, if you're written to be mostly as goons and not being taken as seriously...yeah, that's the problem.
I got old OVW TV Tapes these guys were solid especially Johnny Jeter the only one that was bad was Mitch but the rest of them had potential to be huge if there were other feds to rival WWE
It was Roddy Piper not Hacksaw lol. Still Lit.
Yeah What? It was Piper
Yah. Its crazy how out of shape he got but before he passed he looked great.

i might be in the minority, but the spirit squad brings me nostalgia to when i first started getting into wrestling in spring of 2006. they were the tag champs for months and played a key part in the dx reunion, which was probably the first huge moment i got to see live on raw
People give them shit because it’s a fairly stupid gimmick, but it actually led to something and the guys did their best and were pretty entertaining. I honestly don’t mind them.
@@NoTengoDinero69 They weren't good which is why mention often the fans not reacting to them also with DX burying the group back to OVW who was good enough to be the WWE tag team champions
As much as it was a bad gimmick, I did find it to be pretty entertaining. I can't say I hated it.
"BEFORE HE WAS DOLPH ZIGGLER HE WAS A COMPLETE JOKE!"
Why did you say Dolph Ziggler twice?
Kenny dykstra was always the one that they tried to paint as the break out star, the second that the squad broke up they started pushing him hard for singles matches and even put him with Victoria as if that would make him stand out more. They didn’t even debut Dolph Ziggler until 09’ but once he did it seemed pretty obvious he was the one that should’ve been given Kenny’s spot.
Dolph only got the spot because he was dating bellas and kissed ass to the office. Nothing to do with talent .he sucked aswell
my mand is the generational hater, damn@@wingedhussar1453
the ONLY man Victoria should ever partner with is Stevie Richards
I met Ziggler once at WM Axcess and he looks back on this run with good humor. He was a cool guy to boot.
He's close friends with John Morrison, another rare example of an impossibly cool nice decent wrestler, so I can believe it.
*Nicky Dolph Ziggler, he's no Dirk Diggler, once diddled Sunny thou she claimed he was a dribbler*
AW MAN!
Gotta love dolphs gimmick after this where he came up to people backstage and went "Hi my name is Dolph Ziggler"
That was actually the gimmick after the gimmick after. He was caddy to Kerwin White temporarily before that.
@@walsh9080 the caddy for Chavo thing was before the Spirit squad. The hand shaking thing was his return after this.

“Duuude,
That’s more like it”
I gotta say, every single time you pull out that Jeff Hardy impression, I nearly bust a gut laughing. It’s not just because it’s a very funny bit - which it is - but it’s also a decent impression of that Cameron, NC drawl.
Side note: I am actually from Cameron, NC as well & while the Hardy’s were a couple of years ahead of me in school, I was fortunate enough to attend school with & befriend a young stoner friend of Jeff: aka Shannon Moore. I haven’t spoken with him in nearly ten years but, when I knew him he was the polar opposite of the various gimmicks & wrestling personas he played on tv. Shannon was always a very friendly, surprisingly quiet & reserved guy who was actually made fun of by some of the guys because he had long hair & was constantly talking about wrestling.
Now, unfortunately Matt & Jeff have let the fame & money go to their heads & are notorious among restaurant staff in Moore County for being difficult to wait on, extremely demanding & picky, & very poor tippers. The last one really applies more to Matt & his love of custom-ordering pizzas - 1 XL hand-tossed with every topping available, minus anchovies, which takes a long time to make & even longer to thoroughly cook - & then leaving practically no tip for staff. He is the only person I’ve ever actually heard say the words “Do you know who I am” to a teenager working at a Little Caesars when he was told he’d have to wait for his order on a particularly busy night. I thought that was just a joke - I had no idea someone would really say that cause it just sounds entitled & disgusting.
Luckily, the teenager had no clue who he was & couldn’t have cared less…
Wow, eye-opening. Always had a good feeling that Shannon was a sweetheart, so it's nice to have that confirmed.
Ehhh The Ginyu Force reference is pretty accurate.
I can see why he's called Dolph Ziggler. Every time he whines about being underappreciated, he literally squeaks like a freaking dolphin.
When it comes to this squad it was unique, many didn't know what Mitch could do, because he was almost always injured. Kenny was being primed to be the break out star, even receiving the first (of 2 members) post break up push, before that went nowhere. Kenny recently retired, Johnny was hands down the best wrestler of the bunch, I think he recently unretired. Mikey seemed to have everything needed to be a star but was on the shorter side.
The Highlanders are the ruthless agression version of The Viking Raiders
Petition to retroactively rename the Spitit Squad to the Shuv It Squad
I thought the spirit squad was a nice idea. I mean a faction of 5, cheerleaders gaining boos, heck the trampoline can open interesting things. But the worse thing for the spirit squad is they keep doing handicap matches with them having all 5 members and they're getting their ass kicked still. How can they be a viable threat if they struggle to win with 3 extra men. Imagine if the fabulous freebirds always was 3 vs 2 and they still struggle to win. I think it could work but they literally are just extra guys for dx to beat up and be jokes. The only good is they did come up with some creative tag team moves. Because they all were athletic and it's not very often people are working with the same 5 people so you can do crazier moves like a 450 to a standing opponent, having the trampoline always in place to do high flying moves, etc.
Yeah, even 2 jobbers should be hard to handle for any 1 guy, but 5 on 1 and they still get battered?
So stupid...
Bro love the timing of the content. Good on you.
The odd squad??? I don’t remember them, who thought let’s put snitsky, eugene & goldust together, give me some of what he was smoking?
