Finally Schur calls out David! The one thing he missed mentioning though; as the valuation of assets (the team) gets higher and higher, the owner can get more, larger lines of credit with better rates to borrow that go into their other ventures. Just because the owner doesn't cash out doesn't mean they aren't increasing their income and buying power due to the increase in value of their asset. All of which they pay little to no taxes on. So why would they ever sell when they can take out a huge lines of credit from whatever bank they want for any venture they want?

People have voted for politicians who protect these tax set ups. And yes both sides of the two party system prop it up. Of course most owners make a profit overall in their portfolio, but on sports teams themselves not hard to see them not making a profit. It’s why the lakers are run they way they are because that is their source of wealth.

The one thing I don't get about Samson is how he never acknowledges that the other side may have a point. He doesn't even have to agree with it, but he never even lays out the case for another way to interpret the facts. Like Samson could have his cake and eat it too if he were to admit there is an alternate view to look at things which is somewhat reasonable, but he has come to a different conclusion. Instead, he always has this attitude that he is 100% correct, and if you do not believe exactly what he believes, you couldn't be more wrong.

Not sure why it's so difficult to understand that just because an asset is worth more than what you paid for it, it's not cash in your pocket unless you sell it! The Heat may very likely not turn a profit every year. That being said, I don't feel sympathy for the owner. Other team owners use other businesses they own that are profitable to cover any losses and use operating losses for tax benefits. Same in other businesses. Mike makes a good point that streaming services like Amazon may be able to show that Prime doesn't make money, but Amazon itself makes billions in profit every year. Doesn't make David wrong.

If you are a billionaire owner of a team you can get loan using team ownership stock as collateral and live off that money and pay off the loan using team profits which then you uses to claim you are losing money on you team and save money on your income taxes. Jerry Jones makes 600 million dollars a year on the cowboys and pay less in taxes than his players do. It is why Elon didn't want to buy twitter till a judge made him buy it as per his agreement cause they only way he could pay it off would be to final sell some of his tesla stock and tank the company's stock price triggering rate raise or repayments in loans he took out that he used tesla stock as collateral to get in the 1st place.

Zagack. There is a lot of misunderstanding in the general public about what profits are versus what a valuation is. Samson is technically correct about the finances. Wrong that owners don’t owe anything to the fans. He just comes across so heinous that no one takes his points seriously and makes him out to be the villain, which he kinda is.
Mike has a brilliant point though, you can’t use two different forms of accounting to show the government vs what you show investors. So why should corporations be able to do this in labor negotiations? 🤔

Seeing him smile when Schur followed up on him about how wealthy corporations make profits look like loses and the real value on non actualized ownership percentages (a money hiding method messing with the economy that he also called out) makes me think Samson knows when he’s being a weasel and thinks winning an argument is more important then what it’s about. So when he loses he just whines about decorum like he did here trying and failing to name call Mike as a populist. That’s not cool to people who care and want more from the world, and especially frustrating from someone in a position to bring about change if they tried or cared.

Not saying those shows are (they are not), but the shows are actually very supportive of hierarchies that are more or less kinda complicit in dysfunctional systems. So technically schur is critiquing Samson despite writing stories that endorse bad management. I would recommend the RUclips copoganda series to go into more details.

I'm with Samson. Potential cash is not the same as cash in hand. Also, profit is different than revenue. Operating expenses are real.

People might not care for what he has to say, but Sampson is open, honest, and owns what he has done and said, and shows something Schur never has and most likely never will, and that's integrity. Sampson speaks straight while Schur couldn't to save his life.
