How to Crochet Calico Flowers Scarf

- This incredible Crochet Calico Flowers Scarf is not as hard as it looks. There is an extensive diagram with a lot of detail but if you dissect it, you will see the commonality between the half motif shapes. The yarn changes colour on its own. I've never seen a pattern transition in colour like this. I thought it would not work out but due to the design, the colouring matches up. Initially, I thought it was several motifs that are sewn or attached together. It's not. It's a continuous scarf that grows out.

There are 1 full motif and 19 half motifs in this scarf in total before proceeding to the border. #crochet #learntocrochet #crochettutorial .

I'm late to the party but still had to comment. I just finished this scarf. I have to admit it was very challenging. It turned out beautifully! There is NO WAY I could have made this without the video and all your tips. Thank you so much for making this video!
The videos live forever or until I retire. Never late at all.
Putting this timestamp for myself (and anyone who will find it handy lol), cuz I know i am gonna have to keep going back to look at it ... Half motif starts at 13:22
Hi did you block your scarf.
@@gailcross2295 nah... probably would look better if I did but I'm lazy. It turned out great tho =)
Katherine Rose Art thanks yeah mine turned ok but a bit lumpy but I don’t think I’ll bother either I’m also lazy. 😊
@@KatherineRoseArt I water my crocheting, LOL I get finished things completely wet, squeeze out extra water. and stretch and pull so all areas have been evened out, then roll in a towel, squeeze out extra water even more, then let air dry flat. makes my shawls and scarves grow too. love it.
Thank you again, Mikey for coming to the rescue! They had the yarn on sale and I thought the picture on the label was lovely. When I looked at the diagram and instructions I thought, "I'm so lost. I'm not going to be able to make this." Then I thought, "Let me see if there is RUclips tutorial for this," and sure enough you were at the top of the list! I'm off to a great start and I can't wait to finish (and wear) it.
Thank you so much for this. I had attempted the written instructions and it was only after watching you that I realised quite a lot of instructions were missing, in particular the slip stitches. Thank you for saving my sanity!
hi Mikey, Thanks for the show. I had made this pattern years ago w/o you. Now I have a better understanding. I made with unforgettable stained glass, J hook. same count, BUT in DC and when needed the 4 ch count for TR I did 3 ch.ALSO 17 halves / 18 makes full scarf with 1 skein I also made with Ferris wheel, did it with the Brown color mix, looked like a wagon wheel, a wonderful mans scarf. I so enjoy your knowledge, Thanks
So glad it was helpful and love how you improvised it.
I also have to say, you are the best teacher ever!! I've learned so much from your videos, I've been able to follow every video of yours so far!! Thank you again!!
I’ve made two of these now. Thank you for clear and easy to follow instructions.
Wonderful!
I'm in awe. You are amazing at teaching this. I've learned a lot with you, Michael. Thank you so much!!
This scarf made me happy. I'm going to get the yarn today to start it. It's so pretty. Thanks, Mikey. 😀
Thank you so much for your tutorials. I picked up crochet during lockdown and never looked back
I have self taught myself how to crochet with your help Mikey and I thank you for all of your lessons. This is a beautiful pattern and once you get the rhythm of it it is quite easy. Thanks again good sir!!
After listening to your actual video tutorial, the pattern became clear, my oh my, thank you. The written pattern and diagram were confusing and lacking.
Working on the motifs, then the border. Thank you so much.
It would be really nice to have a full circle on the other end too. Great tutorial. Thank you Mikey ⭐️
Great suggestion!
I thought this to, I can't see how it could be done though.
Lovely! I’ve just finished mine and can’t wait to wear it. Thank you for a great tutorial.
💞❤ thank you for your time and your patience to teach us how to create Beautiful patterns. I Appreciate You
Thank you for the tutorial! After this, I think I can crochet the Calico Flowers Scarf, you are the best!!!
I just made this today. The yarn worked up exactly how it looks on the pattern. So beautiful.
And now for something completely different ... Thank you!!!
I know this is an old video, but one of the half circles would make a very nice shawl ❤
So glad you made this video :) I was struggling with the written pattern, and after i watched your tutorial, i realised there was missing information in thr written instuctions! Thanks again!
You're welcome.
Time check: 1:14 am. I just finished this pattern. And i think im going to make another one tomorrow. Thank you so much for this video. You made it abit easier for someone like me who is just starting to learn.
Gosh, your explaining is so good.
Showing a diagram of pattern is so helpful.
It’s also must be be, a simple drawing.
The f)
👌👌Thank you... Done 6 half motifs already.. Can't wait to finish...
I like the uniqueness of this scarf. I may add a step on the additional motifs so that all the solid rows of trebles are facing on the same side as the original motif. Thank you and have an awesome day!🌹
Vivienne Cooper The trebles not facing the same way was why I came to look at the video. I thought I was reading the pattern wrong and not doing the correct turns.
Thank you for another clear and detailed tutorial. I will definitely b making this scarf ,perfect for spring crocheting now all I need is to go get the yarn 🧶!!
Was looking at the written instructions last night and wondering if I really wanted to tackle this project, but thanks to your instruction I find it rather easy.
I really like do crochet you make it so easy to do. I done lot of crochet stuff with you. I love you please keep crochet.
I just finished my scarf, and it came out beautifully. Thanks Mikey. 👏🏼😁
Printed pattern and saved video to my playlist now must go to Michaels or I might order online, thanks Michael for all your inspiration, you keep me busy and out of trouble
Love this pattern Mickey! This pattern would be a great way to use up your yarn stash.
This is a beautiful pattern, I am going to attempt this. Thank you for teaching this to us.
It's different... I like it...😊
Thank you for sharing...🧡
Have a wonderful day! Happy Easter! 🙂
This is how I was taught to make tablecloths. We just added rows of motifs.
This would look really nice as a table runner
You're right! How would you make it a little wider though??
@@kathyknier5762 Maybe make 2 scarves and attached them together side by side? Have the full motif at each end and adjust so the in-and-out's of the half motifs fit together like a puzzle.
Thank you so much for doing this tutorial I'm so excited it's something different and unique I just can't wait to make it love it have a blessed day
I am a person who needs to watch u on how the pattern works. And you have. Thank you.
Wow. That is so cool! Thank you Mikey. 💜
This one has tempted me and as we are now in Autumn it will be ideal for our colder weather. Thanks Mikey 🐨🐨
Really like how the color changes.
You explain it so well, so it's not daunting. You always make things much easier to understand. Thank you!
Thank you for this tutorial. I just finished making this and is going to be a present for my sister-in-law :)
Thank you for explaining in such detail in your videos. I'm going to try making this scarf soon it will be great for Christmas gifts!
The printed chart for the scarf shows a difference in the 'second' half motif - in one picture the beggining half loop chain four joins to the sixth treble of the previous round. In the picture with the edging it joins to the end 7th treble. I don't understand if this is a mistake or how the half motifs 'travel' once it gets longer thanf the diagram shown. I've decided to just be consistent to what I've done so far and know that when it's done it will look fancy.
TL:DR if it were up to me alone I'd get frustrated with the pattern and give up but video tutorials such as this have taught me to just have fun with it! Thanks Mikey and Yarnsiprations - even though your pattern bewilders me!
eLLe Bee I had the same problem with the written pattern and had to stick with just the video
Thank you so much, I just finished mine, I did it in DC and had enough yarn for ear warmers to. I will definitely be making more of these for friends.
Get the free pattern shown here at thecrochetcrowd.com/crochet-calico-flowers-scarf-tutorial/ There are 1 full motif and 19 half motifs in this scarf.
At 13:40, you flipped the first motif over to start on the second one. I have noticed that many RUclips crocheters turn their work the same way you do, but the working tail ends up at the front and gets in the way. I like to turn the other way, which ensures the tail is at the back, which makes more sense to me. Any insights?
Also I'd like to add this to my Ravelry queue but couldn't find it. Has it been added to their database yet? The chart looks intimidating but with your video I am sure I can make this successfully. :)
Yarnspirations is in charge of adding this to their ravelry. I'm unsure if they have done it yet as it's so new. I'm unsure when they get to it.
I hear your thoughts on that... Interesting. I never really gave it much thought.
Thank you hope you keep on explaining for beginners mainly the pattern clearly before any start ...mashaallah your work is perfect ...
Gorgeous! Thank you!

This is the first time since watching your vids that I realized where your studio is located. I attended Acadia way back in the day. Love the valley. I'm in NL now but hopefully will get to visit the valley again some day when I begin an RV journey around the country including visits to yarny locations!

My pleasure. Enjoy your day.
Lindo seu trabalho😍
Love it
Love this pattern but the written pattern is missing a few steps that are in the video. It took several attempts and some note taking to figure it out.
Paylaşımınız için teşekkür ediyorum 😊
This would make beautiful throw..
Thanks...
You're welcome!
I just finished my scarf. So colorful! Love it so much!
It was challenging at first but got easier. I made my notes while listening to you. Thank you so much for your tutorial!
But there’s one thing I noticed. You changed one of the steps from 3SL to Ch4 then SL to 3rd stitch. Why is that?
Anyway, I’m working on my second scarf to give as a gift. Thanks again!
Just finished love it I may keep this for myself. Where can I share my picture?
Hi Mikey, thanks for tutorial. Would you recommend blocking the scarf.
so many projects so little time ;)
In one of your videos would you show the alligator scales stitches I'm crocheting a mermaid tail blanket and I'm having trouble doing it
Thank you so much for doing this video! As soon as I saw the tutorial I went out and bought the yarn. I just finished this project, it wasn’t as complicated as it looks since you’re a wonderful teacher! Thank you again! On a side note I’ve had people asking me to make them one to purchase, are you okay with this?
Love it... could this be made into a blanket?
Mikey, I just started working on the scarf and see there is a difference between your video and the written instructions on the 1st row of the half-motif. After the sl St of the 15 TR it says to turn. You, however ch 3, sk 3 and sl st into 4th trc. I am going to add that step on the instructions and follow you. Just asking if I'm ok with that. If so, maybe it'll help others. Thank you, Mikey.
Thank you , Beck, I thought I was going crazy! and he talks so fast!!
I notice you have a second diagram in this tutorial, but in our pdf we only have the one that is used in the beginning with the symbols. Is there another to print out? I would like to have it for my file. Thanks, I love this scarf pattern!
Uauuuuu 👏👏👏👏👏
Hi Mickey, thank you for the tutorial but I have some questions. I'm looking at the written pattern trying to follow along with you and I dont see after the 1st row of the half motif where we are supposed to (chain3 sk 3 sl st ch3 again before we start row 2 of the chain6) [the joins].also the pattern class to do ch6 sk 1 sc 7x but you only do it 6x. I'm so confused and I'm not sure if it's the written pattern or not please help me understand.
I need a matching hat!
