Hollis, you need to be teaching with your local garden clubs or summer youth gardening classes. Your drawings are better than most books designed to teach this info.
Awesome ! Keep em coming. I'm seeing a lot of other you-tubers copying off you. That tells me something I already knew anyway. You are doing things right.
Hollis...you would be an AWESOME vocational teacher. We so desperately need to teach our youth some trade skills. Love your channel. And hey to Nancy! Good morning from Texas!! ☕️☕️ 🤗🤗
I learned many years ago, when plants arrive like that they are dehydrated. Throw them into a 5 gallon bucket or a dishpan with water and a good splash of fish emulsion. It not only helps to hydrate the roots, it feeds the plant. I love your Channel. God bless.
Hi, I just wanted to say I really like your drawings when your explaining things. It leaves nothing to chance and we understand everything your doing. Please keep up the great work and knowledge your spreading to us. Thanks
Hollister and Nancy I absolutely love you guys. And now we're neighbors! I live near Pensacola Florida. I learned so much from Your channel. God bless you.
I love you guys and all your hard work. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us. Lord knows my garden wouldn't make it without your help. My dad will be happy to know you are back up a running again.
Have you ever thought about a garden book? That would be awesome to have the diagram and instructions in a book. Love your videos and may God bless you both for sharing your gardening knowledge.
I just wanted to share with y’all how much of a Blessing you have been to me and my family. I have been subscribed and using many of your growing methods.By the Grace of God and y’alls help, we now grow all of our fruits and vegetables with great success. Thanks again and God Bless y’all.
Another great video. Can't wait to try this with Blackberries. I'd sure like a video on how to root Figs from scions. I've tried then several times using three different methods and they have all failed. Some just rotted without ever growing roots (water method) while others put out green leaves but in a few weeks the leaves all fell off (rooting in peat moss) and the third method is called the Lasagna method. That is taking an aluminum baking pan and putting in a layer of peat moss or coco coir and laying the scions on that and then putting another layer of peat or coco coir on top with the top 3" out of the rooting medium. All methods failed and I never got any roots on any of the 15 scions I tried to root. You and Nancy are so good with everything you plant that I would like your method of rooting Fig scions if you have one. You explain everything so well and the diagrams are wonderful. Your fish in the bottom of the hole looks just like the fish on the back of my vehicles. Bet you two are working harder than you did when you were working full time. May God bless you both with a long and happy life.
I was just gifted some blackberries by my dear church member. I’ll plant them this week😊 Great video and a pleasure to share in the garden adventure.👩🏾🌾
Not sure if anyone has mentioned this but have you considered publishing a manual of your diagrams with simple steps for both beginning and advanced gardeners? I would definatly buy it!
A very informative and well presented video. Thank you for sharing. Now I know why I have had problems inn the past. God bless the blue, our firefighters, our troops, and our beloved nation.
I wish I would have seen this tutorial Last year! I received Raspberry plant for Mother’s Day last yr. I was so excited! We simply dug a hole and backfilled w soil, dirt and compost. It has very done well; however, if We had used the ingredients and followed your wonderful tutorial here, I image how much better it could be! Thanks for sharing!
You do so much planting, you should look for a local company to deliver high grade compost to add to that sandy soil. It should be pretty cost effective. Around $25 a yard should be the price. It really helps to soak the bare roots for 24 hours before planting too. Cant wait for part two.
Looks good. If it had been me though i would have pre mixed the fill in tote and then watered as I filled to ensure the deep watering and possibly soaked the bare roots for a day to make them more pliable ant see if I could extend some of the rootballto give them a good head start
Hello Hollis and Nancy, I just came across a really nice CBN News piece done on you guys when you were still in Va. It was so nice to see. If anyone else is interested search CBN News Urban Homesteading, be blessed everyone.
Binge watching your videos and I have to say how impressed I am by the changes since you got to Florida! The property now looks terrific. What an improvement you've made there. Also, you BOTH look thinner and younger. Maybe that Ponce DeLeon did find the fountain of youth? Y'all got a secret you want to share? ;) I really really want to grow raspberries along my property line. I'm allergic to strawberries, so raspberries are my go to. I also like that they are thorny and would serve as a little extra deterrent to unwanted guests along my western fence line. Maybe I'll get the old bed torn out this fall and get them started there. That bed was here before I got the place and it is currently full of nandina and iris. Visible from the street, so I'm a little worried the raspberries might be too ugly for that spot. What say you?
Nice, I have some but got with thorns on. My blackberries are thornless. Also hula berries, strawberrie and blueberries. Hopeing this year is better with the strawberries and hula berries. Snails caused a lot of damage last year and this spring has been a wet on also. Need more room so I can do elderberries but that I have to give to God. I am out of room for sure. God's blessing to you and yours.
We have terrible soil here in EastTN (basically pure clay), so I'll have to do this similar thing. Curious why you didn't bother to premix the soil in a wheel barrow as you've done in other videos. I think it would allow you to more evenly mix it. In my experience, when I mix things in a hole, I don't get a good mix. Just my 2c. Love the video and I'll surely use these tips when I plant my raspberries this fall. Cheers!
Very detailed video, thank you, so very helpful. I have 2 questions: What time of year is it best to plant these in Central Florida? And do you mulch them at all? Thank you so much Nancy & Hollis!
I just got some raspberries from a co worker. Was wondering how to get started. The video is timely! By the way, I like your new format and music! You moved too?
It’s funny all the detail and research your presenting. All great stuff. But then I’m constantly fighting the raspberries invading my yard with no help from me🤣
Wonderfully helpful diagram. WOW! WOW! WOW! Question: wouldn't mixing all ingredients outside of the hole, except fish and lime, be more beneficial for the hole/purpose of planting the raspberries? It seemed like adding ingredients one by one in the hole and then mixing them with a shovel would disturb the lime and therefore the fish. Thank you.
I thought you had to have two or three different varieties that bloom at the same time, in order to have a good crop. I've had a hard time finding three that would do well in Florida (9a) but you planted all the same variety. I guess I just needed three different bushes! Thanks for this video - very timely for me.
Let me just start off with saying Florida looks like it definitely agrees with you also I was wondering do you think the area that you treated will be enough for the root system or do you think it will venture into the sandy soil and then how will it respond?? also I think your supervisor gave you a paws up on a job well done 😉
I feel the size hole will hold fine for a couple of years until they can get established. At that point they should tolerate the soil but I will have to side dress to keep them happy
my raspberries came originally from my neighbours yard, when he didn't provide them with enough sun, so they went searching for it, and found it in my yard...I do, do some storebought raspberries but I like them mainly for making jam every year and for the wild bees.
That’s a lot of careful work to get those berries in the ground! I always thought Florida was too far south for raspberries, but one thing I know by now is you would have done your research! Klaus
Hello Hollis n Nancy n Bing Bing, I am very much interested planting Black berries. I live in Vancouver BC. I have a patio therefore I have to use pot. When should I plant the root? Please advise. Thanks, John. Have a blessed day.
SOUTHERN GARDNERS: raspberries are probably not going to grow well for you!! They do not tolerate the heat like blackberries. I am interested to see how his perform in zone 9b. If you give these a try make sure you give them plenty of shade. To increase your odds, try the Caroline variety of raspberry which is supposed to perform better. If you get bare root canes get them in the fall, because by the time they get to you in the spring, it will be too hot for them. I learned that one the hard way as all my Caroline’s failed to thrive. Giving them another go this fall. The golden raspberry seems to do ok for me in zone 8b. Also, plant a blackberry bush. From one plant I got 4 golden raspberries vs half a bucket of blackberries after one years growth.
I am growing raspberries for my first time this year. They are in containers and have started producing lots of foliage. The last few days, I have been finding what I believe to be sawfly larvae on them. They are eating up my leaves. I keep picking them off and I have put diatomaceous earth on them, but I am still finding larvae. I think my next step is neem oil.
Hi Hollis & Nancy! I'm in South Alabama, zone 8b. I have a question about using fish in your holes when planting. Does it really decompose quickly enough to benefit the plant under the same year you plant? I also wanted to know if I don't have actual fish how/can I substitute with fish emulsion? Ratio??
Yes it does decompose extremely fast. It will last all year for the plant. Fish emulsion is good too but you have to apply it every couple of weeks. Much weaker than the raw fish
Hollis you are sure looking good with that thinner physique, hoping that it gives you the extra energy to get all of this work done. I certainly gained energy when I lost weight. Love you guys, Bing Bing too.
The raspberries finally started producing then the squirrels got them. We decided to stick with the thornless blackberries. We have an update video on another tree on Thursday night.
Ok...can't wait for the update video. I planted several raspberries of different kinds. They were all dead because they couldn't handle brutal Texas heat. I planted a Kiowa blackberry also. Fruit was very big but so sour. My stomach got upset after eating too sour fruit. Just ordered a few sweety pie.
Yes, I love pickled dragons eggs. Its best when whole. Here is our video and playlist of other fermentation methods. Enjoy ruclips.net/video/YiF6Z-QeUY0/видео.html
Nice,i wish i could grow them here in dubai, but its really warm here.i ve lots of dry leaves in my garden can you please guide me how to turn them into fertilizer?also ive been burying vegetable and fruit waste under those leaves to make fertilizer is it ok?
Well, for planting this is too late. I got some last year and a few more this year at the local conservation sale. I plant my garlic next to them. Once the garlic comes out carrots go in. But the 5 feet apart, no way, I don't have that space 😁 Can't wait for part 2!
Hollis, you need to be teaching with your local garden clubs or summer youth gardening classes. Your drawings are better than most books designed to teach this info.
I love your diagrams and your penmanship. As always, thanks for sharing and God bless you and Nancy.
Awesome ! Keep em coming. I'm seeing a lot of other you-tubers copying off you. That tells me something I already knew anyway. You are doing things right.
HI DON--- I really admire Hollis and Nancy's gardening abilities too...love their channel! And of course, them, as well as sweet little Bing-Bing!
Hollis...you would be an AWESOME vocational teacher. We so desperately need to teach our youth some trade skills. Love your channel. And hey to Nancy! Good morning from Texas!! ☕️☕️ 🤗🤗

Your humble intelligence and writing in all caps reminds me of my papa. Bless you - great video.
Hollister and Nancy I absolutely love you guys. And now we're neighbors! I live near Pensacola Florida. I learned so much from Your channel. God bless you.
Thank you so much. I am seriously considering growing black raspberries and this is exactly what I need. Hello from North Carolina
I am so glad GOD has blessed you with your new property with all that land so you can plant all the things you like.
I love you guys and all your hard work. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us. Lord knows my garden wouldn't make it without your help. My dad will be happy to know you are back up a running again.
If I said it once I've said it a hundred times. I APPRECIATE your sketches greatly. Be blessed!
You are so welcome❤️. You will be seeing many more sketches on our 2.0 videos very soon👍
Have you ever thought about a garden book?
That would be awesome to have the diagram and instructions in a book.
Love your videos and may God bless you both for sharing your gardening knowledge.
Awesome video. Love the music. My wife came into the office and asked what are you rocking out to? Just watching a guy plant some raspberries.
I just wanted to share with y’all how much of a Blessing you have been to me and my family. I have been subscribed and using many of your growing methods.By the Grace of God and y’alls help, we now grow all of our fruits and vegetables with great success. Thanks again and God Bless y’all.
I loved this video but Nancy at the end was my favorite. So sweet ❤ thanks to you both

Bing, Bing is so cute and curious. Now all we have to do is wait and see you plant those wonderful, delicious vegetables.
Soaking up all this knowledge! Thank you!

Surely did! I learned a lot, Thanks for sharing. My best to Nancy and Bing.

Wow, love your new stead. I learn from you all in spite of myself.
As usual an excellent presentation!
I watch you guys all the time!!!
Very informative videos I will plant my heritage variety just like this thanks from Indiana
Great timing! A local friend dig her raspberry plants up for me. I’m about to put them in our early permaculture area close to my pear tree.

Thanks for all the details
Ready to start that new project soon!
Have fun!
I went into the other room then came back, wondered what was playing... ooohh they're rock n rollers :)
Looks good. If it had been me though i would have pre mixed the fill in tote and then watered as I filled to ensure the deep watering and possibly soaked the bare roots for a day to make them more pliable ant see if I could extend some of the rootballto give them a good head start
I love the music. It's got a Lynard Skynard, Sweet Home Alabama vibe. Thank you for making this.
Perfect....!!!!

Great video!, but those bream would have been great Golden brown! 😂
LOL
"Its suppertime" :)
Amen!
Nice,i wish i could grow them here in dubai, but its really warm here.i ve lots of dry leaves in my garden can you please guide me how to turn them into fertilizer?also ive been burying vegetable and fruit waste under those leaves to make fertilizer is it ok?
You are doing a great job. Use 30% green material and 30% brown material (dry leaves). I have a video coming out next spring demonstrating the process
Go search how to make leaf mold
Do you have a video on how to grow blueberries? Can I grow them in pots?
You can grow blueberries in pots, I have several growing in grow bags and they are doing fantastic.
That's how we did it.
Going on 2 yrs now .. how are they doing .?
I can't seem to find an update vid .. Thanks

Is this variety adapted to the South? I am in Zone 8 B, in MS. And raspberries do not like it here.
Yes, the variety is Caroline
The Sweet Home Alabama (esque) intro music.... Did you make it yourself or have someone make it for you?
We have a company we subscribe to.
