But it's disturbing to me that no one seems to have made an issue of that particular statement. I've never heard anyone else say that they heard it, but I did, and don't really watch that much TV. For her part, Hillary addressed Christians with "you people have to stop believing what you believe!", helping to frighten many people into the Trump camp. To me, the election was like frightening and stampeding cattle into a box canyon. While the MSM did the usual "be good liberals, guys, and vote against the bad people", why not make an issue out of the particulars, and if needs be, explain to the people what separation of powers means, and why it is so important? Ah, I forgot: we're being advised to quit voting for issues, and just vote our "affinity groups". What could go wrong with that? And with Hillary showing no support for First Amendment rights (just about all the wonderful candidates scoffed at the first amendment when the rights of "you people" were at stake.) And see, it is a massive error to believe that because one side is bad, the other is good. But both sides were too bad to trust, or waste a vote on. So the "vote of no confidence" was my most likely way to make a statement, and I wasn't alone. There were many other reasons to be wary, but the election seemed to be for sleepwalkers who had ceased to think critically about an election. I know there is much to commend in many journalists, but that doesn't necessarily extend to them all. Lots of times, when they've had responsibilities, they have thought of their careers first. The exceptions are notable. One I've been thinking about for the last few years was when a local newspaper man took a terrible risk, because he took being a newspaperman that seriously. He was a figure on the national scene; he was a marshal on the Freedom Riders buses, etc..This particular story, I do not care to risk my life to share, but in the article that was published, he went against suppressing a story that had been retrieved from every news room, including the pictures. So the awful, mysterious-to-me story (without pictures) was something I have pondered over the years; I was about 13 or so when it happened. He even seemed to likely be in sympathy with the aims of the group who seemed to be responsible for killing the story,, yet being a journalist was that important. I attribute it to the man's desire and commitment to be an honest newspaperman, not suppressing relevant news from the people. The suppression took a very small, trivial story, and turned it into a "big" one, although one that didn't go very far. Why? I have always respected that.
@@clarenceworley3714 The press of the time of Jim's trial were letting him "twist slowly, slowly in the wind", as they said a few years later about another thing. Lots of those hippie/rock journalists treated him like he was a horrible pariah, like they couldn't bear to speak to him, when they could have known he was a relatively decent young man, and known it with very little effort. Instead, he was decided guilty on accusation. Who would think "cool, rock journalists", the ones who would interview him, would care so little about an obvious injustice? No wonder Jim condemned hippies as useless, partying people, who cared nothing about the serious causes they pretended to care about. There were still a few who were willing to listen, and even with those who put him down, there were some interesting interviews.
Most people see Morrison as a drunk and the biopic of the Doors' doesn't help. The only people who really knew him were the band of course. Along with friends and girlfriend. He seemed like a very polite and funny person. Great little interview.
Talk Show Host - I think he also liked to challenge people and shake'em to get to uncomfortable so they behave in a manner which is true to their real nature. Probably, most people were afraid of that part and hated him for it.
Great speaking voice, and not the drunk jerk you see in the Oliver Stone movie. Listen to all the Morrison interviews here on youtube; the guy was very bright, thoughtful, interesting, funny, and way ahead of his time. Remember, he's just in his early to mid 20s during most of these.
Mike Frak that’s the thing. He was a drunk jerk. how he got the name jimbo. Jimbo was the jerk that came out after a few too many. Most of us are jerks after a few.

The types of people who are against body positivity (or in other words not being a fucking asshole to people who are fat) wouldn’t think to question the “health” of the average thin person. I call bullshit on this phony concern with health when skinny people can just as easily be eating a bunch of fucking garbage but just be blessed with the metabolism for it not to manifest in excess fat. It’s a deep seeded phobia and distain for fatness perpetuated by a culture obsessed with thinness that’s really talking here. People fronting like it’s not the case because they don’t think critically, interrogate their beliefs, and because fatness isn’t in line with their idea of beauty.
Exactly. No body ever lost weight because an asshole called them 'fat'. The only way someone gets healthier is because they feel good and want to do it. Not because someone bullied them into it, which actually makes people more depressed and more likely to put on weight.
Joshua Stephens he doesn't sound like he had a very positive body image when he was thin. The way he describes weight gain sounds like he just wants to hide himself under layers of flesh to feel safe. It sounds sort of sad to me.

***** I'm sure 180 pounds is a little over 25 overweight. I agree with him though. It feel's kinda good being fat. I've lost a lot of weight so I'm not too overweight but I like to stay a little overweight so I have some fullness to my face and belly. You feel robust, like an alpha lion. Have you seen those things? Lying around with their pot bellies and awesome manes while the females are off hunting? I'm not alpha at all but being chubby feels pretty good compared to when I weighed 7 Stone. (Not sure what that is in pounds but it's pretty damn light.)
+kyle whitehead As a female reading this, I'm not gonna lie. that really got me. I think chubby men are adorable. You can't snuggle with a rock very well. I love a belly on a good looking strong man. Yes, like a lion or a bear. beastly like a monster. Most people when they think of chubby men they see femininity and weakness. Which is totally wrong. I've seen chubby men who are oozing masculinity and strong asf. My friend being one example :)
If you listen to the full chat Jim is saying that because they made a remark about his weight. It kinda mad him mad I think. He is saying this to stand his ground on being fat because they made that remark. I heard Jim would let it known if he got annoyed with you.
Jim Morrison's onstage persona was just a small glimpse into his overall personality, but it didn't define him. You can hear in this interview that he was so much more than just a rock singer. Oliver Stone really did Morrison dirty. There's no way a person who was drunk all the time, could write so many amazing songs, record 6 studio albums, tour for 5 straight years, write thousands of poems, make movies and do so much more. I met Ray Manzarek in 1991 shortly after the Oliver Stone movie came out and he shared his disdain for it quite adamantly. Ray was Jim's best friend. He loved him like a brother. I've listened to enough of Jim's interviews to gather that he was a polite, sensitive, curious, intelligent, compassionate, funny and generous guy. Don't ever believe the media. They just want your dirty laundry. Do your own research and you'll get as close to the real truth as possible.
His voice is so unique when singing and talking. On stage he knew the art of keeping full attention on his songs and talks or addresses. H e was generous of his person. And able to play absurd in a funny way, like a teen sometimes he was.
This is body positivity. It isn't a new thing concocted by liberals. Its the idea of being comfortable and confident in your body. It isn't encouraging people to be unhealthy. It isn't glorifying bad behavior. It's about being comfortable with who you are and Morrison knew that. It's such a modern idea and goes against the conformity of being a certain standard of person. Fuck that. Be who you want to be. You're not lesser than if you're comfortable being chubby. No one is saying, "hey be 700 pounds. That's just an exaggeration made by people who don't have an argument against body positivity." Fat is beautiful. Damn straight.
I agree, I use to be anorexic and now after medication I'm overweight. When I look at how chunky I am it's upsetting but I'm in a wayyy better place than before. I now try and love my body, fat or thin!!!
he said he was 185 pounds at 180cm and that was above average at the time. We have to remember he grew up in a soldier generation. He would have been much fatter than anyone else but not completely unhealthy. The average now is 200 pounds, so there has been a rise in obesity and those who are above average are certainly at risk of severe health problems.

He got pretty fat during that time in school; other pictures taken when he was in school show him very thin. I suspect that depression played a part in putting some pounds on then.
Mcfirefly2 how do you know he suffered with depression or was depressed? I'd agree but I'm just wondering. Having piled on a tonne of weight being depressed I also agree about that, but it's still just as easy to lose the weight while depressed as I found out the last 6 months
@@metalmulisha0143 Some people lose weight with depression. I think he was depressed because he had reason to be. In the early-mid sixties, it was probably mostly about Vietnam, and as it turned out, he had valid reason to be concerned about that. Even the highschool he went to was the kind of school that was full of military scuttlebutt. So in early college, he's able to buy a beer and drink to feel a little better, and he's kind of heavy in his pictures from Tallahassee. In a couple of pictures from UCLA, he's really heavy, and the starchy school food probably played a role in that, but pretty soon, he's at his normal weight, and at the same time, not looking so depressed. During that period when he was sleeping on the Venice rooftop and on the beach, he was really poor, and he gets really thin. The psychedelics have a reputation for lifting depression, but with the counter effect of subjecting people to bad trips. I think he was probably susceptible to bad trips. In fact, "Ship of Fools" has it's history lesson, "along came Mr. Good Trips, looking for a new ship", also suggesting whatever went wrong in his relationship with his dad. But he definitely puts Mr. Good Trips in the Ship of Fools. While he is thought of as leader of psychedelia, he said he only used LSD briefly. I doubt that he profoundly respected Leary, etc, for calling the young to psychedelics, without much care for the ones who would be hurt by them. In the late 60s, he was going through government harassment, the debacle of Miami, and he has fallen out of favor with almost everyone, quite unfairly. Reporters who should know better, talk to him like he's a joke. But the harassment and pursuit through the Miami trial must have been really hard to endure, along with having the tide turn against you like that. So when he began to put on weight, it is not just that he didn't care and let himself go. For one thing, he's self medicating with alcohol, and probably with food, since he's probably trying to suppress extreme anxiety, too. He's not getting as much exercise as he would have. And he's 5'7", not 6', and has that lean, very "wispy" build, and a few pounds--a six pack of beer--looks like a lot. But he looks like his mood is improving in spring of 1971, and in those pictures in Paris, he looks pretty healthy. I also think he was depressed a lot because it is in his music. "I Can't See Your Face in My Mind": this feels very much like it comes from depression. It sounds like from one depressed person to another. The beautiful love song, "Yes, the River Knows" is like its scale is all about depression, for lack of a better way to say it. One if my favorite pictures of him in his early UCLA years is on that fishing boat: short hair, slightly heavier than usual, and he does look depressed, but he looks like someone I'd talk to.
Mcfirefly2 wow, very complex reply I'll have to read a few times to really sink in, but aptly a complex reply for a complex subject. For what it's worth you seem like the kind of person I'd share a long phone call with or would want to talk more to after a brief exchange
This was also in the late 1960's when obesity wasn't the epidemic that it is today. So peoples perception of fat was completely different than what it is today. What was considered fat back then would be considered average today. Fat today is morbid obesity.
Yeah, I'm 5'10" and weigh about 185 right now and hate it, even though it's only about 20lbs More than I should be!! So, 185 really is now where near "Fat" for someone around the height
When I was in school, you had around 20 kids in a class and Maybe 1 or 2 of them was Fat... It was not nearly as common as today, especially among kids
People hate it and get mad at you when you say it, but: 5'7". Ray was 6'. Compare: he was how much taller than Jim? About 5", right? Look at _Waiting for the Sun_ , for instance. And Robbie and John seem just slightly shorter than Jim. Jim was moderate in height, neither tall nor short, and of course his proportions were great, which is why he is believable as 6'. Everything you read that had band members' heights and eye colors, etc, said 5'7" back in the 60s. And 185 lbs at 5'7", for a brief while in college, is "like a tank," for a change. It's no longer "wispy"! I bet there is a picture somewhere of Jim standing next to something that would prove his height, but everything I can think of has probably changed.
I’m really sad that the world lost such an inspirational and beautiful person like Jim Morrison. He really did break the status quo and you really only meet someone like that once in a lifetime. At least he’s with God now and his legacy lives on with us today
I had the exact same experience in college. Food, classes, food, classes, food, and I felt like I could take on the world. Now the food I eat makes me actually fat instead of bulky and "solid". I need to go on a diet. But, fuck. I fucking love food, man. I fucking love it.
I've been big all my life, and Jim hit on what made me feel best when I would get down about being that way. This made me feel beautiful; thank you, Jimmy
I’ve studied a lot of decades and icons. Very few people stuck out to me as sane. I consider Jim Morrison a person who was a little bit more sane than the rest. He knew what was happening. I’m not saying he’s completely sane. But he’s there.
Having a bit of a belly and being obese are different, I dont, personally think there is anything wrong with carrying a little bit more weight but you really dont want to be like 250lbs+

He was messing with the interviewer, as I recall.

Stephen Guidry drama makes a good movie /story.
I quite like the mysterious rock legend image. Been to his grave twice and I’m now 36 and when I stop to realise he was just a young boy at 27 it makes it too real. Hope that make sense.

Jim was brilliant but he was also a total jerk. He was bright but also abusive. To truly recognize him you have to see the yin and the yang.

Robert Frost :
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Thanks for the explanation. Yeah, I agree with him, it’s good to have extra, but it’s not good to be too overweight.
Yeah, i think he just meant you didn't have to be skinny, you can have some meat on you and it's no problem. That's the message
Exactly because he said he weighed about 185 and that’s actually not fat for a man?? It’s a little more weight than average but definitely not obese

Jim Morrison: Promoting body positivity before it was cool
*Basically, accepting death*
Joshua Stephens He was decades ahead of "Fat Bottomed Girls"

J. von Havre can confirm. I too am from Florida (oddly enough, not too far from where he was born) and did not detect an accent.
+ Natsu no, it's not a heavy accent. More of a light accent like we have here in southeast Virginia. I spent a few years in the panhandle(FSU) and noticed a difference of drawls just in the immediate area. Tallahassee(heavy), Clearwater(light). But in general it's easier to pick up on if your genetically southern. How many centuries has your family been in the south?
J. von Havre none! well, my dad lived here for half his childhood (And I have now been here half my lifetime) but we were military... I think my accent changes a lot heh heh

I agree with Jim what's wrong with fat? True if you are so fat it's unhealthy but so is being so extremely thin too
***** I'm sure 180 pounds is a little over 25 overweight.
Mark Page Depends on how fat, there's a point where it's disgusting and you no longer give a shit about yourself as a human being.
If you listen to the full chat Jim is saying that because they made a remark about his weight. It kinda mad him mad I think. He is saying this to stand his ground on being fat because they made that remark. I heard Jim would let it known if he got annoyed with you.
Why is it so horrifying for you to see someone else being fat? It sounds like insecurity to me.
His voice is so calming to listen to
There is no way Jim Morrison weighed only 150 ibs in 1969. He was at least 180.
Yeah but he was 5'9 so it does make sense
The interviewer didn't seem to believe it either..
I think he was 6'0"
He was actually in pretty good shape at the time: s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/85/8a/b1/858ab157e2318a1d6d99ea1072fcab5c.jpg
He was 5,11
Im crying, this is beautiful
His voice is so unique. Both speaking and Singing.
That's just an exaggeration made by people who don't have an argument against body positivity."
Fat is beautiful.
Just that voice alone... OMG... Too beautiful

Morrison was never even remotely fat. It's only in comparison to his weight in '66/67 when he was emaciated

Holy shit you right ! Lmao
Bare in mind - Jim Morrison at 5'11" considered himself fat @ 185lbs. It's just relative to his lizard king days of being 140lbs.
David Belcher the child obesity is a plague, now.
