Corona Virus yeah we are all well aware. it’s also a tv show. when you watch it, you have to accept at face value what you are watching. pretty much every non-cop character is not just some innocent civilian. by the way i never once rooted for stringer, i couldn’t stand him lol. anyways, kenard was just a hated character because unlike someone like omar or marlo, there’s hardly any backstory or in depth look into him. he was just a little dick. it’s not super deep or anything

I liked Omar and I loved that Omar died that way. He is one of the best and most admirable character in the wire, but he is a bad influence on his community. His legends did not inspire these children to make sth out of themselves as good, honest citizens. They just want to be the new generation of legendary killers. Omar unintentionally caused his own death. It is poetic justice. He did not died by his enemies but by the negative byproducts of his life.

I think there is a third connection.
    1) Omar had a bit of a conscience and never attacked the weak and defenceless.
    2) Michael stood up for the weak and defenceless (Dukie, Bug) and at times got bothered by Marlo's Crew killing soo indiscriminately.
    3) All three paths would meet when Omar picked Michael to pass on the message to Marlo (almost as if to pass on the "Omar torch to him" before,,
    4) Getting killed by Kenard who emulated him.
    5) Michael would later become "The New Omar"
And because Michael has a soft spot for kids he too might get killed by a kid he didn't suspect would be a threat,,just as Omar did not think anything of it when he saw Kenard.

A couple of things stand out -
    1) When Marlo had first come at Mike, Mike had first avoided him but stared him straight in his eyes when provoked. However, when Omar grabs him - literally a limping and injured Omar - all he does is shudder. Omar's reputation was not to be played with.
    2) When Omar pulls up on the corner he seals his faith - as Kenard asks "That's Omar?" when he limps away. the image of Omar as a fearsome killer is broken in his head. He sees Omar with a gun and is quiet because everyone else is scared - but he isn't impressed.
    3) In the last scene, all the kids run away at the sight of Omar but Kenard sticks around - not only because he wants to kill him - but the fear Omar commanded is gone in his eyes.
    4) Omar is so aware he watches the door open as Kenard steps in, watches his activities for a couple of seconds - turns his attention away probably thinking "It's just a kid."
    5) Kenard is in disbelief when he finally kills Omar - he is obviously shocked that he actually killed someone - let alone that he killed Omar.
    6) The lady cries "Omar is dead!" - for her, he may have been a source of protection - in fact, I can imagine Omar pulling up on someone in the past who may have tried and rob the store or such. As he mentioned, he never hurt anyone who "wasn't in the game".

He gave up that advantage by calling out Marlo. Omar was much too street wise to concede any advantage so the only logical explanation is that Omar was ready to die. He knew he didn't have as many guns as Marlo and he would likely die in gun fight against all the guns Marlo had.

Probably best way for Omar to go. It was quick and he didn’t see it coming. After seeing what barksdale did to his boyfriend in season one, lord knows what Marlo would’ve done to him. He would not have died slow

If only Kenard had respected Omar’s views on justice & love over his fascination with violence & hate, then maybe Omar would’ve been able to reach marlo & have some kind of heroic impact on the drug scene.
That’s what I think the audience (at least my ass) wanted to see lol. A big shoot-out between Omar & Marlo, or at least get to Chris & Snoop bc they’re clearly the villains & we’re so used to seeing our heroes destroy them,
because we ourselves are a little like Kenard. Wanting to see the violent outcome, glorifying it, even becoming comfortable enough with it so that we almost want to be like Omar.
The reality unfortunately isnt that, & based on kenards expression it looks like he realized what he just did, is no longer a game. Omar was killed by the very thing that made him this enigma. The flawed/chaotic system in which he grew up in. Omar found a pocket in where he was able to live more free than either the police or the kingpins around him, feared by everyone, & guided by his own individual code. yet not even he was able to withstand the inherently flawed & chaotic nature of our system. Not even the viewer, with our romanticism of violence & vengeance, are safe from the system we grew up in. Omar is the rugged fantasy we’ve grown to love & Kenard is the gut-wrenching reminder of what we’ve neglected & refused to acknowledge.
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

The whole point is that Omar did not stand a chance against kennard.
He was cornered and Kennard is a child. Not once on the show did Omar hurt a child, plus the character was based on real life people, one which is said to have a code of never involve children. Thus even if he noticed Kennard’s intentions, I don’t think he would kill a child. So Omar be killed by a kid is way more convincing and accurate than by any other people in the game.
That said, I was very sad because of Omar. He was my favourite character ever. The wire’s season 5 is heartbreaking.
