AMEN! Gospel wasn't trying to sound like "r & b" or hip-hop rip-offs...and the singers were SINCERE, because the songs were TESTIMONIES forged in the heat of persecution and hard trials--and the singers KNEW GOD!
This takes me waaaay back to church in the late 1950's--early 1970's! "WHILE I'M DOWN HERE PRAYING, LORD, SEARCH MY HEART!" A great song of introspection, asking God to search our hearts--and make us pure!! YES! Our black churches MUST recapture this SOUND and the SUPERIOR TEXTS OF THESE SONGS!!!
WOW! I remember singing this song many, many summers ago when I was singing with the Freedom Temple COGIC Angelic Choir in Chicago. My late uncle was the minister of music. Thank you for posting this wonderful song.
