    The pedals are actually very useful for one thing: To keep warm! If you ride this in anything other than summer, you will be freezing in no time if you don't keep moving. Pedaling will not help your speed or range very much, but it will keep you warm and give you some voluntary exercise to feel great.

    Ariel Rider does need to make a rear platform to hang pannier bags. At this writing, I found a surly TV tray with some modifications like drill holes and 1/4 inch bolts with wide washers, will work. I also added some wood dowels with epoxy to the metal TV tray, that was for a rear camera and turn signals

    Just joined this great site. I live in a bike town . A real bike town , this small town was about gone , until the state and federal government took over a railroad right of way and made one if the top bike trails in our great country. It's called the Virginia Creeper Trail. It's not as long as some trails are but you will be hard pressed to find a better ride. It's starts at the VA. / N.C. state line . It's in the mountains of Southwest Virginia. White Top station is one end of the trail. From there it's 17 miles down the mountain to the town of Damascus , and I just happened to live in this little place . From there it goes another 17 miles to where it ends in Abingdon ,Va

  • @yodab.at1746

    I've never liked the idea of a motor on the front as well as rear. The grip on the front must be compromised when accelerating as the weight is shifted to the rear. I don't understand why mid drive and a rear hub motor are not used together. I built my own duel motor bike using a hub and mid drive and it definitely works, but I have full control steering, and the front has grip. Especially important in the wet.

    • @jnb756
      @jnb756 2 года назад +6

      The weight of the motor and the bike overall isn't going to allow for the front tire to release from the roadway with the amount of torque coming from the back motor alone. I have a 1500 watt rear hub only e-bike pulling 52 volts off a fresh charge and my front tire never lifts no matter how hard I accelerate. If I had a motor in the front (or should I say when?) I have no doubt in my mind that the pull of the front wheel, along with the combined weight of the motor, the bike itself and me as well, will keep the fat tire planted while riding. I would think having a mid motor and a rear hub motor would be more likely to rear up in front when the power is combine from both sources....but you would definitely know more about that than I would for sure... so can't wait to go dual motor/battery

    • @mattblum459
      @mattblum459 2 года назад +1

      Can you tell us about your setup? I'm buying a mid drive, what would it take to be able to add a rear drive? Have not seen one for sale yet, love this idea! How is it working for you? Sorry for all the questions, just a little excited

    • @yodab.at1746
      @yodab.at1746 2 года назад

      @@mattblum459 the other comment has a point. My bike will easily lift it's front wheel. But to clarify my original point, having a driven front wheel Vs an unpowered front, the powered one will break away and lose grip when going round bends quicker than a passive one. I originally had a powered front, and it felt like it was going to lose grip in anything but optimal conditions. Anyway, my set up has a bafang bbs01 mid and a geared hub on the rear (mxus xr15). I have two controllers which are operated by a single thumb throttle. It's easy to control both from one throttle. The mid drive is better at acceleration from low speed as the hub becomes efficient from mid way up it's rev range. Also, the gears are effective with the mid drive, multiplying the torque. I've set it up so that both motors max out roughly together speed wise. My main aim was for it to pull like a train, potentially to pull a trailer, but it might be too lively on the front end to be safe. However, the only thing to beat me away from the lights would be a Tesla. It's fun to ride, but I have to be careful with the power.

    I pedal my Grizzly nearly 100% of the time, but I'm not that tall and I also put an aftermarket seat on it that is a little taller so it now fits very well for pedaling. I have two Grizzlies and combined mileage is over 2,000. They bikes are solidly built and I have had no issues except the spokes. I have found that frequent spoke tightening is necessary, but to be fair I'm a heavier rider. I would rather have some mags.

    Like most people that do a review on this bike, you leave out a critical part of the review, which I understand is a huge CON for this bike. According to only a couple people that did a thorough test for a full suspension bike, when the bike leaves the ground and comes back down, as in leaving a sidewalk curb to jump onto a street or make small off road jumps, the motor will cut out. The mnfr says this is a safety reason. I say it's dangerous. They didn't say how they got it going again, but this is a show stopper for me if this is true.

    I’m looking for one to ride to work about 15ish miles each way. I’m not really fit so need to use mainly motor and the road I take have a couple of pretty tall hills to go up. I’ve been looking at the himiway big dog but then I see this dual 1000 watt motor beast. At more than $1000 more do I need this dual motor for my use or will the himiway single 750 watt motor conquer what is needed ?

    • @Maber01
      @Maber01 2 года назад

      James, it looks like you will be riding a total of 30 miles to work and back.
      If you can charge your bike at work, then you have many options because you are going 15 miles each way, and many e-bikes have more range than 15 miles.
      You have a quagmire because you will need to take tall hills, and you don't want to pedal. It is recommended that you pedal when climbing hills and at take-off as this puts less stress on the motors.
      That being said, pedaling an e-bike is way easier than a regular bike.
      The other question is, will you be riding on city streets or bike paths?
      If you are riding only on city streets, then I would recommend a 150 cc scooter. They cost about $2,999 MSRP and out the door for about $4,000. The Grizzly is about $3,500 with taxes.
      With the scooter, you will not have to pedal. 150cc scooters go about 60 mpg, get about 80 mpg, and come with a 2-year warranty, and dealer networks for servicing.
      With the Grizzly you will go about 35 mph and have a range of 40 miles till it dies, it comes with a 30-day warranty that can be extended to 1 year if you register for it within 1st 30 days, and unless you can find a bike shop that will work on it, you will be doing the labor on the bike.
      I have had my Grizzly for 4 months, after 3 it quit working. I have exchanged emails with Ariel Rider, and it took them a month to tell me my warranty was voided because I added a Wicked Thumb Headlight. The stock headlight on the Grizzly is a plastic toy light that is dangerous for a bike that goes 35 mph.
      I also have a Juiced HyperScorpion. I've had it for over 2 years, put over 2,900 miles on and I've changed the tires and the brakes and no other problems. I did add a second battery for added range.
      There are many comments from Grizzly owners where they have had to replace multiple parts at the same time with some success and some failures.
      It appears that the Grizzly has a catastrophic failure of many parts with no pattern, but instead many combinations and permutations of multiple part failures. And my experience with their customer service is not good. Expect major delays in getting a broken bike up and running.
      As for the Himiway with a 750 watt motor, I am not familiar with that bike. However, there are many variables. Your weight, the steepness and length of the hills, and most importantly how much battery life you will have when you get to the hills.
      Note, that as your battery is depleted, you will lose power, so if the hills are towards the end of your ride and you are down to 20% battery, you will notice a loss in power, aka voltage.
      Lastly, due to my experience with Ariel Riders Customer Dis-Service, I highly recommend avoiding buying an e-bike online. If at all possible, I recommend one buy an e-bike at a bike store that will be able to service the bike in the event it breaks down. And if your commute is on city streets, then I would recommend a 150cc scooter, no pedaling, 2-year warranty, dealer service.

    Does anybody know how long the battery lasts if you do use the throttle and mostly go full speed?

    • @Maber01
      @Maber01 2 года назад

      Shreddie McSkate has a video going full speed full throttle and it died at about 40 miles.
      I pedal all the time. I weight 235 lbs. and after going 30 miles I have about 25% to 30% battery left.
      You really don't want to go below 20% you will lose power and possibly damage the battery.
      So, for me, the max range at full power and pedaling is about 35 miles to avoid draining and damaging the battery.
      If you need to go farther for about the same cost you can get a 150 cc scooter. A Piaggio Liberty 150 has a MSRP of $2,999 and about $4,000 Out the door.
      The Liberty goes 60 mph, and 80 MPG and has a 2-year warranty.
      Also, it takes 4-5 hours to charge the batteries on the Grizzly, it only takes 5-10 minutes to put some gas in a scooter.

    If they're going to make a bike with two motors out of 1000 watts each at 52 volts they need to get a bigger battery in there.. some bikes are coming out with 60 amp hour batteries. Come on, get it together. Get with the times. Put some battery in that sucker. Then you'll have something
