    F series locomotives are the reason why I got into trains. Their design is just timeless.

      +TheReIntegration ...I love those f-units too...I used to railfan the crack Santa Fe passenger trains as they passed through Trinidad Colorado on the way up Raton Pass...Super Chief...Chief...El Capitan...Grand Canyon...my brother and I were admiring a set of F7s one day...the engineer leaned out and asked if we would like to come up and look around...we didn't hesitate...climbed up the ladder into a beautiful pale green cab...very clean...the engineer explained the controls and gauges...learned about manual transition that day...what a great experience...still one of my fondest memories 50 some years later...

      Paradise Road sad that kind of stuff rarely happens anymore, too many rules and regulations for it to be allowed. Train crews risk losing their jobs if they allow that today.

    I am thankful that Bill McClellan and his son Rob took the opportunities to photograph and film the vintage diesels when they were in prime condition. Their photos and films are very valuable today! The diesels in these films are much more pleasing than today's mass-produced junk!

    • @whiteknightcat
      @whiteknightcat Год назад

      They might be more aesthetically pleasing, but there were far more of those early diesels mass produced than there are today.

    Not many people like diesels but the ones most of us did like are gone ALCOs, E8s, GP9s, and many others

    • @Farside2020
      @Farside2020 3 года назад

      Not all of them. There are several ALCO RS-11s still in service. The ones I know of off-hand being: Shenandoah Valley (Ex-N&W/Ex-Maine Coast) No. 367, Ontario Midland No. 36, Falls Road 1802, and Napa Valley 62. There are also several surviving ALCO S1s in New Hampshire, and multiple GP9s spread across several railways and leasing companies that I'm aware of.

      Would have loved to have been around for the classic passenger trains, steam power, and more of the transition.
      Dad was born and raised in Ashtabula. Grandma was a nurse and grandpa a prosecutor and judge. They knew everyone in town. A neighbor was with NYC. We were taken to the yards, tower, and even taken aboard and permitted to ride on, and operate locos and run with a local freight. We were permitted to (try to) pull the old Armstrongs where the harbor line crossed the NYC. SO COOL

    The New York Central railroads lightening stripe paint scheme was a lot better looking than that damned ugly cheap cigar band look
    and their original oval was a lot better looking than the newer ugly oval. When the New York Central went that way, it was the beginning of the end for them prior to becoming the Penn Central in early 1968.
