I just found out recently that bassist and keyboard musician Chris Cross passed away this past March of 2024 at the young age of 71. Very, very sad. Do Rest In Peace Chris Cross, and it was a fantastic experience seeing you in concert back in 1979 at the Whiskey A Go-Go in West Hollywood, California. Us old Ultravox listeners (with John Foxx) will miss you, but never forgotten.
Well, this the Ultravox I've been wanting to see in concert in 1977 when I was 21. They were young and wild. Billy Currie did not look like Billy Currie. Chris Cross was really wild, and Warren Cann kicked (Influenced by Keith Moon?) his drum kit after "Young Savage". The young German audience just sat there with very little reaction and their fashion was still early to mid 70's look. There was much more excitement with the audience (including myself) when I saw Ultravox in March of 1979 at the Whiskey A-Go-Go in West Hollywood, California with John Foxx and guitarist Robin Simon. Late that month John Foxx quit and left Ultravox which he was the founding member, and shortly after so did Robin Simon. For me that was disappointing, but John Foxx had his reasons, which I understood.
Ultravox is sacred in this house. Take the songs to heart and each surface when accommodating to heal. I'm not surprised, even at the well noticed hair replys, good to Honorable efforts. Need me...
Both good but their masterpiece for me was Systems Of Romance. Ahead of its time and still sounds amazing today. Those first three albums with JF were great. Not wishing to rip on the post-Foxx era, but they lost me after that.
I got my firsr gig in a band in 1977 ,the singer was a public edinburgh schoolboy ,i was a council estate kid ,he introduced me to Magazine Bebop Deluxe who blew me away and then he played Ultravox ,,OMG ,, i fell in love and ive never recovered,,,ive never had one notion to play Ultravox 2 ,,Only the name connects them. Maybe the most influncial band of recent times !!
Dennis's performance these days couldn't be further removed. maybe he should take up this stage persona again now he's reintroduced geetars to his sound
Yeah, it's got the vibes of a "comedy" music show. And John looks like he's playing up the lyrics to the song. But wow. Billy, Chris and Warren aren't into it. Maybe John left Stevie alone cos he's much shorter.
And it was 1977. Punk and the Sex Pistols were in full force. Slam dancing, pogo-ing, and putting the stranglehold on your closest friend were popular at the time.
Poor Billy, doesn't look very comfortable on Young Savage, with Foxx prancing around the stage like a plastic punk rocker. Thankfully they found Midge.

R.I.P. Chris Cross
This really shows how diverse Ultravox was in the early years. Two completely different songs that could have been from two different bands.

So glad John Foxx is still making music
That bass line f'in rips!
RIP Chris Cross 😢
Super band 😊😊😊
Billy leaves the stage like he’s dying for a piss..!😂
I do like the fact the audience are clapping along seemingly to a different song entirely
These guys were so underrated light years ahead the midge ure years great also
The precursor to New Romanticism, electro-pop. I even hear a little Japan in there somewhere. True pioneers.
Very underated brilliant stuff!!X
One of the best bands of its time. Foxx is the unsung genius of an era long past......
Great bass line!
Wow, an animated performance by John in full rock star mode. Great!

Thanks for uploading this. Great quality.
They are formidable
Loved the debut but their second album Ha! Ha! Ha! is my favorite

Dangerous Savage and Young Rhythm !
love the way Chris bites off the mic cover at the beginning lol
Wow! Good eye Susan I never noticed that!
My goodness. Billy Currie was so good looking at that time!

art rock at its finest
Great sounds from a transitional year, pity the new romantics were born soon after
Rip Chris Cross
I'd never seen the Dangerous Rhythm video before :0 Thank you for sharing!! 💕
There’s no-one driving….
awesome, Young Savage is excellent
Random wannabe who hears Young savage: This is so punk rock!
a brilliant savage playback thx for upload !
A German Steve Wright presenting? Young Savage is absolutely bonkers 😜
A proper bit of Foxy vox quality.
Even in playback they kicked ässes
I’ve just noticed that David Tennant got his Doctor look from Stevie
Absolutely epic
Muy buenos. Maravilloso vídeo.
Right into these at the time - weren't keen on the Midge Ure version tho - thanks for putting it here
superb footage, a reminder of how 'punk' they were back in 77, so much better than the midge ure fronted hit makers
John is sooooooooo intoxicating here. What a performer. Very different performing wise compared to his solo performing. This is STUNNING!
Young Savage a fecking fantastic Punk anthem up with best and covered by the Skids a couple of years back
On young Savages, what the $#@# was that performance!
top ten battles of all time
Dennis's performance these days couldn't be further removed. maybe he should take up this stage persona again now he's reintroduced geetars to his sound
とてつもない刺激的なパフォーマンスの裏で、この頃は既にメンバー間ギクシャクして関係が冷え切ってきた頃かと、、
この直後にリリースされる just for a momentなんかは完全にバンドへの決別の曲ですな
How could Chris tolerate this bull in young Savages? 😮
Fantastic!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
Not too sure of Billy’s glasses, very reminiscent of Pauline from League of Gentlemen...
Oh poor Chris
que belleza !!!
Excellent miming..!
Did Chris prosecute John for assault after young savage?.

On Young Savage, poor Chris and Billy. Is that an assault charge ?
Whatever happened to Weird Al Yankovich?
Were there any more songs of them on this show or only these two?
Only these two.
Never realized how much Foxx sounds like Bryan Ferry at times. Not their best songs though. :/
John, I understand but..hands off!
I wonder why John beats up everyone expect for Stevie. Also the comedy of the facts they are on a kids show and they are acting like that.
@@iirachelmadness8677 coz he'd make him screw up the quite complex guitar parts on Young Savage
@@rachelar They were miming so it wouldn't have mattered...

Mithc ure si the singer?
No it is John Foxx.
Thanks Rachel
No but Midge soon would be…
That was horrible! But Billy Currie was a good looking guy back then!
Poor Billy, doesn't look very comfortable on Young Savage, with Foxx prancing around the stage like a plastic punk rocker.
Thankfully they found Midge.
Ok, out of your mind!
Midge Ure killed the band...
I like both versions of Ultravox.
@@johnwhit9471He saved it
@@paranormalpendle5920I like both versions too, but the John foxx iteration is far superior imo
