My mind is blown. In 8th grade on Easter Sunday I went and saw Milli Vanillli and for all these years I couldn't remember the name of the girl group that opened for them and now I know... it was freaking Seduction! I saw Michelle Visage in concert over 20 years before I loved her. So cool!
Listening to Michelle is making me relive my tween years of 89-91. I was in love with Seduction especially April Harris. Her voice was phenomenal, especially on "Heartbeat" & "Could This be love ". I always wondered why Seduction never recorded a second album? After listening to this interview, now I know.
I just discovered this show the other day (mostly through watching old club kid videos from the 90s, it somehow lead here lol) - and was really enjoying it. I watched several episodes, but then I happened to notice their most recent video - And was heartbroken to find out that the hilarious co-host I had been loving passed away only a couple days prior. I'm saddened I've only got the chance to become a fan now - Rest in power.
I'm 44 years old and I remembered this when I was 14. Seduction was da BOMB! April Harris was the VOICE of Seduction. I loved how Michelle gave the lowdown of the Soul System. I loved that song from the Bodyguard. especially at the end when that Diva is singing her ass off.
It's kind of a shame, but the era of radio talk shows is kind of over. I mean, that's what podcasts are for nowadays. The majority of people who still actually listen to the radio just do so for either 1) weather and traffic or 2) background noise for their commutes; pretty much everyone who wants to hear a thoughtful radio-style discussion about anything is going to seek that out in podcast form nowadays, because it is so much more convenient, but the problem is that podcasts don't really pay the bills like any sort of contracted employment might (well, unless you're actually doing the podcast for a major company, but that's pretty rare). We probably won't ever see someone with a career trajectory like Michelle's again, which is kind of a bummer because her lived experiences give her such vibrancy and wisdom, as well as the confidence to take ownership of it.
the era may be over for the most part, like you said, but 2 broadcast radio stations in New York City are still keep it going pretty well. WNYC 93.9fm, and WBAI 99.5 fm. -- both stations have numerous live talk shows that are very interesting on various topics, mostly news and social /political issues, plus the arts. WNYC is an independent member of the NPR network, while WBAI is part of the non-commercial Pacifica Radio network.
OMG Michelle. I remember hearing "Gonna Be a Lovely Day" in the clubs back in the day. I didn't know that was you in SOUL SYSTEM. You look so beautiful in the video... like a goddess.
1st of all "BLAME IT ON THE RAIN" HAHA BUT I LOVE MICHELLE!! I LOVED HER BEFORE RPDR! MY OLDER SISTERS PLAYED A BIG ROLE ON MY UPCOMING WITH THE BIG HAIR, CAN OF AQUANET. AND TAPE CASSETTE OF SEDUCTION AND THE ENTIRE FREESTYLE COLLECTION!!! AND NOW I GET TO SEE HER AS A ICON JUDGE!! LOVE U MICHELLE!!!
I had that single for Lovely Day on cassette. Back in the early 90s my Grandpa would always go for walks at the mall everyday. He would always come home with random vhs movies and cassette singles.
So C+C puts her in SEDUCTION... then after it came to be that Seduction wasnt coming back for a second album C+C signs her to another group SOUL SYSTEM and all she decides to do is throw them under the bus to say they took all the money. Without them you wouldnt be in the industry at all!!! She should be thanking them left and right. SMH
Can Ru please trade out Michelle Visage for Lisa Stansfield on DR? Am I the only one that can't stand her not wearing green self!? She has too many famous friends that pity her. REAL TALK DRAG RACE FANS!!!💯 (Maybe my jealousy is showing but why is she still around!?) Because she thinks she looked like Madonna back in the day? She threw shade to Madonna saying she stunted her career and robbed her style but now she's her biggest fan!? Girl bye 👋🏼 Lol BRING IN LISA STANSFIELD!!! She is fire and we all know she is!!!🤣🤣🤣

As a radio DJ, Michelle just captured my heart with that last bit about personality being sucked out of radio because of "research"
MORE STORIES, MICHELLE!

He keeps interrupting and it’s so annoying.
" put Ru and I together " is incorrect and sounds uneducated. It's Rue and me.

You missed out. She's on the jury of RPDR.
Her “star” days are certainly over.
She's still getting work so I guess that counts for something.
Who is she kidding. Of course she has fillers.
