Good video, big cities in finland have a man made ices almost in every parks, they are brushed and pretty good but not zambonied, (ofcourse "the best maintained" rinks in city center are better) Busses are also good way to travel too
I stayed in Helsinki, and have been there several times - the people are some of the friendliest on earth, they all speak English, and they are welcoming. Sports facilities in Finland are fantastic, subsidised, and overall the country is geared up for sport, summer, and winter. I have also played hockey at Vierumaki with the BUIHA and it is a fantastic experience. Hopefully will get to play in Helsinki too in January. Edit: I have lived in Prague, Czech Republic, for almost three years, and the people are not as friendly, English is not widely spoken, and they have no problem excluding you.
I do remember the video back from the days, Brahe, and that seabed 'hockey arena' near the icebreakers + the bar42 thing back from the years. This is the second video from you which I've seen. You people are crazy. :)
Hi nice video, thanks. Now as a finn, I‘m ashamed to confess I‘ve never played pond hockey. As a general rule, I‘d recommend visiting city run outdoor rinks - which every city has several - because they are often equipped with a warm rooms to change your skates/shoes. Boarded rinks are great because they separate imrpoved players from kiddies, and thus promote safety. Obviously slap-shotting is allowed only in boarded rinks. Usually these rinks have some local youth teams training in the evening, and they dont take visitors, but any other time one is always welcomed to a game. Best times to go playing are saturday‘s and sunday‘s around 09 or 10 AM because the ice has been prepared around that time. You‘ll find 10-17 y.o. teens playing on every ice rink everyday in the afternoon, because they go there right after school, I literally spent my childhood on one, 5-10 hours every day. But beware, going into teen games, the changes are they will be better than you. 😂😂
I would love to see you guys come out to winnipeg canada and play. literally 8 out of 10 times i go the rink closest to my house, a big game will break out. and if theres nothing going on there, theres about 4 other rinks less than an 8 min drive from my house. its a hockey players dream. edit* just for reference, i usually go by my self and play with strangers. so it's not like these are planned games.
If you are in sweden and want to play pound hockey we have a small rink 37x25 in fritsla 45 min from Landvetter air port. and we mix teams and play 2 times a Week
I was really hoping to hear when might be a 'prime time' to go. Obviously winter but it is usually best December? Jan? Feb? Planning a visit this winter and wondering when is the best bet....
Prime time in southern Finland is jan-feb .. Winter is shorten in south parts of country. This winter starts november and it's on still.. lot of snow. These days winter can start even january and end march. Normally winter starts october-november and ends april-may. Lappland is about half of country in north and there is arctic winter with arctic night and summer 24/7 sunshine. There is about 8 month winter. Sometimes you can go to downhill skiing even june. At last mid-summer was ice on lake. That is northern part of lappland.. tundra and no trees.
Im in finland now in seinajoki. Its just turned mid summer but looking to play hockey, the problem is that all rinks seemed to be closed. Is anyone aware of any that are open and maybe close to seinajoki? Many thanks.
You played with Finnish President Sauli Niinistö @ 11:12 ! Nice !
