I've been subbed to him since specifically his ds3 Cathedral Knight UGS pvp video. That was the first one recommended to me and I've been hooked ever since.
Hey I’m a third year undergrad in math and love your videos!! If you could, I would love a video where you talk more about the money side of a PhD program and how to best manage expenses and maybe talk about how stipend works in a PhD program. Thanks !
Invading since 2011 😎 & watching Prod. This is great since Prod is my favorite Souls channel, he is just straight up the most entertaining person of the channels I know. He feels like yr homie that yr on the game with, really liked yalls conversation 😁
This is crazy because I'm realizing I am about the same age and started watching Prod back during my undergrad, too 😂 Honestly a really cool interview!
If you get around reading it, I can give another perspective of the attraction of Souls games. In terms of just playing them, it was just different for the time. A lot of medieval/fantasy games didn't play as fluid as Dark Souls at the time (take that statement with a grain of salt), and it was very hands-off in its execution. It'll tell you how to play but it's on you to actually apply these things, and it was hard because most games at the time didn't see you getting killed as hard or as fast. So it got this occult reputation as being a really hard game, and a lot of people wanted to take that challenge. And every time you started to git gud as they used to say, the game throws you a screwball and kicks you back down a few rungs. You struggle and try and fight your way on and it doesn't throw you a bone at any point, so your achievements actually feel like an accomplishment. Which leads to my next point. You can make it AAAAAALLL the way to the end of DS1, kill Gwynn and link the fire and get a cutscene that just leaves you thinking "...lolwut?" and you might ask yourself where the story was. And that's the thing, another really big component of the Souls series is FromSoft's method of storytelling and world building. You've been encountering the story the whole time if you can stop for a moment and look. The world has already come and gone and you just live in it. No one is around to give you the exposition dump. Item descriptions have most of the lore, and much of the very important stuff can be found in really innocuous items. Some NPCs can tell you about things in the here and now, on occasion little bits of history, but for the most part it's in the environment. The little intricacies in the map design and certain textures and statues are a treasure trove of story and things to figure out. And they put so much effort into things that people might never actually see. Everywhere you look was done with careful hands. FromSoftware is very deliberate in their design and it's just an absolute treat to experience. As for why people keep coming back to it, it just aged very well. It's not the most graphically impressive game series ever but it just has an unmatched style about it and a flow that just FEELS good. It's not that hard to get into if you'd never played it before either. Just requires some effort. It's not a pivotal role playing game like Skyrim, but it also doesn't waste your time. It's a series built on subtlety, curiosity, trial and error, and above all else, additionally a lore component, the innate human will to conquer adversity
Great vid mate. I too am a 2nd year PhD student (Engineering) who is into FromSoftware games. It was interesting to hear you and Prod talk. Thanks mate.
@@PhDVlog777 That's pretty awesome. I know you used to have Bloodborne videos overlaid on your audio, but I never thought you'd do a cross over, especially with someone like prod.
I’m pretty sure the only way to get a math degree is by worshipping Cookie The Dog, so this crossover makes perfect sense
Some might say grad school is the dark souls of life
I’ve also been following him since about 2017, when ringed city was the big thing coming out.
I've been subbed to him since specifically his ds3 Cathedral Knight UGS pvp video. That was the first one recommended to me and I've been hooked ever since.
This is awesome!! Im so happy you and Prod did a collaboration!!
Insane crossover but I'm here for it tbh

Exactly my sentiment. But I respect it. I play games too, and do math.

Weirdest blunt rotation
Wholesome af.
