Loved this song when it came out. Fine memory from the classic rock era. Honest music that does not have to rely on irritating metal or rap to get its point across. God bless you!
Actully got to meet and hang out with these lads for a night in Wurzburg Germany. Met Peter while he was tuning up for the show and chatted. He told me to hang by the stage after the finally and come back and meet the guys after the show. Told me I could bring my buddy. True to his word he got me and my friend Jerry and we Partied back stage and then took the bar hopping in Wurzburg even got in some places that where off limits to GI's because we had them with us. Great Guys . Thanks Guys
I was 10 yrs old, living in oklahoma city, Used to hear this on the radio all the time. Brings back good memories, Summer time, & swimming pools.......
What a band, what a time and what great memories. When I finally get the time machine done right, I'm setting it back for the mid 70's. So if anyone wants to come on board it's totally free and good times abound. ~Peace out and God Bless~
Wow! I remember back in the 70's. When this song came out, the streets is full of muscle car. Mopar, Mustang, GTO & Camero were all over the street. Those were memory now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
time was drifting, this rockers got to roll.damn 1976 was a great year for old time rock and roll.seger,boston,kiss,miller,frampton,springsteen. NO PETE ROCK WAS NOT DEAD!
Colin Cooper was an enduring figure on the blues scene for 40 years as the leader of the Climax Blues Band. A powerful vocalist and talented multi-instrumentalist, he formed the group in 1968 at the height of the British blues boom which also produced bands such as Fleetwood Mac and Ten Years After. Despite suffering from cancer, Cooper continued to play with the band until weeks before his death.
Saw the band a few times afe w times in Stoke and surrounding area, chatting to Colin on one occasion. Nice guy, great talent, so sad to hear of his death. This song remains one of my all time favourites
Thanks for sharing this rare old clip from the once-mighty Climax Blues Band! I saw them three times and their lead guitarist, Pete Haycock, always blew the roof off the joint! I love this clip because it shows him playing his gold-plated Veleno guitar, which was awesome... His new band, Pete Haycock's True Blues, has a new Live CD out which is a must-have (recommend checking out the RMI Sound website for more info on this truly underrated master of the guitar). Rock on!
15 years old. Berlin, Germany, where I grew up... :) with freaky parents of a friend in a Bluesbar. I was drunk because the parents decided we have to test Guiness. It was a wonderful evening! Perfect Blues, easy drugs...hmmmm!
Awesome stuff. Makes me remember popping valium by the handful and smoking many bowls of Columbian gold. I actually found Derek Holt's email address and he sent my a signed CD recording of Real to Reel, one of the best compilations of music ever. You can't find this CD anywhere and the dude was kind enough to send me a copy from England to the States. Thanks for the memories!
Perhaps one of the most overlooked bands of the 70's. "Coudn't Get it Right" sounds even better today than it did 30 years ago. This song is begging for a remake. Rick Springfield would be perfect for it. He redid a song by Mister Mister that was a big hit. What a classic song.
Great band. I bought the Solid Gold album back in the 70s on the strength of this track and was definitely not disappointed. What a cool cap Derek is wearing, wish I'd had one back in the day,
The remake of the Mister Mister song that Rick Springfield did was "Broken Wings". Check it out. In fact, I heard him sing it in person on a TV show called "Soap Talk" while I was in Burbank, Ca. a couple of years ago. Thanks man.
Yeah. This song has a great groove that has stood the test of time. Climax Blues Band was a GREAT Live band and I was able to catch a few shows in San Francisco back in the day. The guitarist, Pete Haycock, is a criminally-underappreciated player, I think, and he penned this great hit. Thankfully, he's back on the road, sounding better than ever, with his new band Pete Haycock's True Blues (featuring Glen Turner). Their new Live CD is smokin'!!! Check it out at RMI Sound (dot com) site!
I've listened to this song more than any other song on here! What does that say about my self esteem haha.... nah- it's a catchy song with a gnarly bass line and down-to earth everyday emotions. I'm responsible for at least 100,000 listens alone over the last 6 months. What do I win?
Without a doubt, one of the best blue-eyed soul songs ever, along with another gem from 1976 which seems to have been removed from this site since I rejoiced at seeing - or more accurately, hearing - it, and that's "Union Man" by the Cate Brothers - does ANYONE have them performing it live????
jeez louize, i was at the same show!!.....i think that was at the Baltimore Civic Center(but of course, i could be wrong); great show and it was cool that the crowd was so small(more free toke for me)....btw, ya gotta cool handle!!.....hahahahaha!!....have a great holiday!!
Great song, and this live version is even better than the studio version! It almost seems like they're lip-synching, but I really think they just put on an amazingly tight performance!
LOL that yeah i was born! :-) Guess its true then, I have heard it from the inside of my mothers womb hehe. Really feels like I heard this before I was born.
On a side note ..what were they trying to get right in the 1st place? Yargh I know it is a metaphorical question... but still this deserves an answer! /proceeds to boogie down
I'm always looking for live versions that are as good as or better than the recording. Although live..this is almost a duplicate of the recording, but you get to see the band performing.

It always blows me away when I hear an old song I use to love...but my old head has forgotten...like this!!!
I was 10 yrs old, living in oklahoma city, Used to hear this on the radio all the time. Brings back good memories, Summer time, & swimming pools.......
Damn!! This is a damn Good Jam!! I had to download it!! Going to blast it hard in my car on way home!! :)
He had such a distinctive (sp) and incredible voice. May he rest in peace. He gave us some really good music.
Songs of our youth are the sweet memory sounds for us today , Thank You for posting .
I never forget this wonderful band which i saw may times in the 70. I look forward to see Peter Haycock playing in bern. We miss you colin.

INCREDIBLE song!!! Totally underated. REAL talent. A GREAT song!!!!!
time was drifting, this rockers got to roll.damn 1976 was a great year for old time rock and roll.seger,boston,kiss,miller,frampton,springsteen. NO PETE ROCK WAS NOT DEAD!
Thanks!
That's an awsome way to play bass. Wish I would have had a chance to see these guys play live. Great tune for the times. Still holds up today.
I was born at the same time this song hit the charts. No really. Probably was the first thing I ever heard and I still dig it. Pure classic.

OMG!! I freakin LOVE this song.....ARG...i miss the 70's! Today's music NO BUENO! Doesn't even come close to the good stuff!
Might of only been 10 or 11 around the time this song came out. Doesn't matter though cause it still rocks my world today in my early 40's.
Was a very talented group. Thanks!
I'm only 45 and I find this song to be awesome.
Saw the band a few times afe w times in Stoke and surrounding area, chatting to Colin on one occasion. Nice guy, great talent, so sad to hear of his death. This song remains one of my all time favourites
Plays on was the best CBB album. A true masterpiece. RIP Colin.

This song rocks and is brutally honest. Play this at my funeral...haha!
Loved those hairstyles from 1976

I'm a fan of the Climax Blues Band. Thank you very much for uploading this videoclip. Rating: 5 stars of course!
One of my all time faves, great posting, many thanks.
This song was in the top 10 in the world charts in 1977

Tight grooves...funktastic. Oh, hellzzz yeah! Solid!
Amazing! Thought it was the studio version until I listened closer. Talk about having it together! First rate.
Great band. I bought the Solid Gold album back in the 70s on the strength of this track and was definitely not disappointed. What a cool cap Derek is wearing, wish I'd had one back in the day,
Good answer. I thought they were miming at first but you're right. Nice one.
Great song. A lost gem.

Love his voice, especially on their great album "Real To Reel".
Excellent stuff, check it out.

Great song, and this live version is even better than the studio version! It almost seems like they're lip-synching, but I really think they just put on an amazingly tight performance!

This is just plain BADASS
Precious and few was the band "Climax" The same guy sang it as sung "Time wont let me" for the "Outsiders"
Our team used to precision march to this in the Navy (U.S.).
Idk what they couldn't get right, they certainly got this song right.
Lead Singer Colin Cooper has passed away from cancer at the age of 68. May he R.I.P
Saw then with Styx at some theatre up in Baltimore years ago. Maybe 200 people in the audience. They didn't care. Good show.
Smokin' Funk Rock!!!!!

shell19491
I saw this band open for Ted Nugent at MSA in Indy back in May of 1976. This was the last song they played in their set.
Amazing!
xoxo
The Clarences
This band kicked ass for many years before they had this hit. Check out their album "Lotta Bottle" from the late 60s.

On a side note ..what were they trying to get right in the 1st place?

History
Performed excellently. That'a Derek Holt in the front?
I'm always looking for live versions that are as good as or better than the recording. Although live..this is almost a duplicate of the recording, but you get to see the band performing.
