Because of my musical OCD, it always bothered me that the Eb pedal note in the opening guitar line doesn't modulate up to Enatural on the 2nd and 4th bars. But hey. It is what it is.

Actually no. It goes into feedback.
Actually, I saw a concert video of this song. After sounding the 9th fret D#, you can see Jeff Hanneman flick the D# 1st string with the pinky-finger of his fretting hand. When he does this, he may be laying a finger of his picking hand on the 12th fret, which sounds a harmonic of the original D# that decays into feedback. Unfortunately, you can't see what he does with his right hand.

It doesn’t have that crunch cuz ur not picking right durin the real heavy parts you have to only strum down not up :/ but thank you for this lesson the tabs are accurate.

JohnTheRipper I think what you are reffering to is feedback. It's achieved by crancking up the amp, loud volume and sustain.

You could also just do a note and then turn around and put the bridge right near the amp
Hi, wondered that too while listenning this song this morning ... I think he plays with microphone's volume, starting quite low and going higher to saturation. Not sure this is harmonic, or maybe, he does pinch harmonics that we hear as such when vol is up.
