    Another thing that strikes me is the fact that your example is now 50 years old and still running. Today’s models, it seems, are a bit hit ‘n’ miss as to whether they run or not! Which brings me to the old saying “if it works, don’t fix it” - a valuable quote for HORNBY today!

    I can only agree with all the other comments in this set. And the Hymek is a nice model for the time. That’s what I liked with Triang, is their “robustness”!
    It’s also ironic that these sets weren’t overly popular in the ‘70’s but now fetch a pretty decent price on that certain international auction site!!

    Absolutely wonderful Oscar.

    Surprising how the two tone green makes the loco look longer than it is, whereas the blue makes it look shorter than it is, same with the deltics but even more so.

      Good afternoon Lea, I hadn't seen that until I read your comment. Your absolute right the green looks longer.
      Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

    One of my favourites... I hadn't noticed the electric blue - probably because mine is very weathered! Yours is lovely!

      Good morning John, the blues are quite subtle. In some light its difficult to tell them apart.

    You now need the container crane they produced.
    Your going to have to extend the layout now .
    She who must be obeyed will be dead pleased with that idea.

      Good morning Steven, R.675 Freightliner Depot Crane and another 5ft x5ft (1.5m x 1.5m) board to make the layout L shaped is what's needed I think. I'm sure there could be no objection!!

    Triang Hornbys’ artists were brilliant. I wonder what happened to the original box illustrations? Best wishes & Happy Christmas. Bob

      Now they would be something! I think they had a very large art department that covered a wide range of lines for the group. You would like to think that some would have survived. Back then I think the artwork was physically sent away for separations as just one part of reproduction processes needed to produce artwork for boxes, catalogues and press advertising. It's easy to imagine them going adrift in the internal/external traffic departments of those involved. All the typography and graphics and these striking pieces of pictorial artwork would have been mocked up by hand(Scalpoll and CowGum) to start with so there are these possibly somewhere as well. But as all these would be physical things. They took up valuable space. No hard drives or clouds to store in. Sadly I think many of these items will be long gone as they were possible thought to be not important at the time.
      Have a great Christmas Bob.

    I don’t know why, but for some reason, I really do like the older triangle models more than the newer models from the Hornby Railway range. It’s just something about the older models looking kind of like plastic toys more than detailed models, but the fact is that they could more likely be enjoyed by adults than kids.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  Год назад +1

      Hi Christian, I know what you mean there’s something quite nice about the crude nature of the design of these toys and as you say they can be played with and enjoyed.

    What a lovely set, wow very nice. Looks like the loco will need a little oil on the gears and those axle bearings, one of the few issues with the motor bogies that. Great stuff Oscar all the best

    A second vote for the container crane:-) That set was a recent indulgence for me and I'm very taken with it, eish I'd had one years ago.

    Great video I think triang did a Hymek that was in BR blue with white window surrounds because I have one like that

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  5 лет назад

      Hi David, glad you enjoyed the video. You are right there was a blue one with white window surrounds. Glad to hear you have one. Pat Hammonds Book The Story of Rovex Volume 3 1972-96 details a Rail Blue Hymek with the white window surrounds catalogue Number R.122 being available between 1994-96 and probably with a Ringfield Motor in the Hornby Railways/Hornby Hobbies period. He also indicates that the model came with a sheet of alternative codes that the purchaser could choose and fit themselves.
      Thanks again for watching David and taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.

    What an incredible set you have there Oscar, it is virtually new. I can almost reproduce the set although it all came to me as separate pieces at different times. I do have the crane mentioned in the comments, do you have one?
    David.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  5 лет назад +1

      Thanks David, I think these items were long running in the catalogue separately. I mentioned in the video that as a set it did not sell well! seems odd for such a striking set. They must have sold tens of thousands of the wagons and locomotive separately over the years. Glad to hear you have these great models in your collection and the Crane! And I do have the R.675 Freightliner Depot Crane & Container set. The Box is a little shelf worn as they say! I say squashed. And when it came to me it was missing its cti 20' Container. This I have replaced, it dose have its original instructions printed on very soft paper which has gone very brown with age. The crane its self is predictably missing a couple of the little plastic tabs. But does appear to still work perfectly.

    Kind of weird that the "flat beds" never got buffers.

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  5 лет назад

      Good morning Tom, from what I've read in Pat Hammonds Book The Story of Rovex Volume 3 1965-71 the prototypes of these wagons in 1965 were made up in fixed rakes with only the end wagons having regular drawgear/buffers. Tri-ang Hornby seems to have chosen to model a centre car. On reading your comment I had swift look for information on the subject and found this www.ltsv.com/w_profile_018.php
      Thanks again for watching Tom and taking the time to comment.

    Am very suprised why Hornby Triang didn't adapt the Minic Motorways Bedford TK model M1546 and turn it into a non powered tractor unit with a single axle container trailer which could take the Freightliner 20' containers.. BR used TK's with yellow cabs and red double arrow logos on the doors would have made great play value with the later Hornby overhead container crane set

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  5 лет назад

      Your right it would have been a great addition to have a Truck/Tractor with a trailer unit. It seems they had planned a model and even showed one on page 3 of 1969 catalogue R.575 A.E.C. Articulated Tractor and Trailer with 30' Tartan Arrow Container (Available Autumn). Never made it into production from what I've read. A missed opportunity there. As you say it would have brought great play value to the Crane and as part of the RS.602 Senior Freightliner Set.
