@@DareToEntertain i first saw aot in 2016. watch these white boiz to get the same feeling as watching it for the first time! ruclips.net/video/8C6bei_LNtE/видео.html&ab_channel=StudioGek
I wish I could wipe my memory clean, especially since I've been a fan since 2013 and had to sit through the 4 year gap between the first 2 seasons. I wish I could watch it all over again, the entirety of the show.
sometimes, i watch the anime again from Season 1. Turn out, it give me a new perspective and find out some new detail I was missing first time watching. It make me appreciate the writing and know character better
What's cool about this show is you pretty much get to watch it for the first time twice. The second time has a completely different meaning and perspective when you see what happens. It's some of the most masterful writing I've ever seen
When you look at it like that. Man it fucking hurts haha. Isayama at 22: continuing that amazing series Me at 22: hey guys this show is really good - hour 17 min video. The fact his initial pitch was rejected is insane
There was a point in season 4 where I was watching the Marleyans fight Paradis while the Jeagerists were in there as well where I took a step back and realized something. I didnt know who I wanted to win. That was the moment I realized how truly great this show was
Protagonists too, they switch sides, form new alliance with former foes, friends turned out to be foes but actually they’re also still friends, heroes turn villains or maybe they’re still heroes in a way… seeing fighting Mikasa giving cues to Titan Annie was breathtaking… I have never seen/read anything like that, where indeed, the audience, like the protagonists themselves are lost & confused & swallowed by the turmoil of war, survival & fight for liberty. No one can really win. And no one should really win anyway. The absolute Anti-war Manifesto
And the fact, Hange is at the centre of all this. Thats the part I love the most. Due to being the commander and watching them try and battle the philosophy of what they should do. Ep i think 24 where they yell at Jean was so gripping.
To not spoil the ending there is a passage that I genuinely hate that is the personification of this and yeah it’s not great. If I was to do a full critique of the show yes this would certainly be a part of it.
Personally, I don't want anyone to win Not the Yeagerists, Not Marley, not Paradis, not Hizuryu, Not even the Titans themselves Because at the end of it all, its all pointless as seen in the new ending
Nothing compares for me either. I don’t think I will ever find any series that made me feel this way. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve rewatched this masterpiece.
@@DareToEntertain im literally watching this show for the 3rd time, this was my first anime, it was just so good, the story telling, the action scenes, the suspense, the foreshadowing, for example hannes says he will save eren even if he dies, and he does save eren, but he does die
there'a a few series that are way better like berserk or one piece. but one piece already is what you all say about this. I read books, I saw a lot of anime and series, eren is the weakest main character I have seen. The end.
Eren was definitely always like that. In the beginning on the boat, he said he would wipe them all out. From season 1-4, his perception of who the enemy is changed from titans to the entire rest of the world
I think the same as you, at the beginning it was very strange to me and I felt he changed too much in short time, when I finished then I realized he had always been like that, he was just dissapointed by the fact of who the real enemy was plus the founder influences on his head
Also in the final episode of season 1, when he is about to bite Annie's nape, he literally says "I'LL DESTROY THE ENTIRE WORLD" and for a BRIEF millisecond you see a red silhouette of the rumbling briefly flash on screen.
>good intentions >phoning it in with godlike power My man got retconned with the hardest character assassination of all time. Gokubros need not get up.
Attack on Titan is the most IN-DEMAND TV globally for a reason. Won 2022's Show of the Year, took the #1 SPOT on Hard Rock CHARTS for its OPENING, and dominates IMDB rankings more than Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. Is there a show ever like this? Unreal masterpiece. Part 3 is gonna be next level.
Part 3 is gonna rock the world. Literally. Can’t wait. Now given your name I thought to tell you I’ve just started chainsaw man and I absolutely love it. I adore it so much.
AoT set the bar so high for me I refuse to watch any other anime show that doesn't have the same levels of quality. I'm doing a rewatch and wow, it is a completely different experience. The incredible foreshadowing makes me appreciate the show even more.
If you’re new to anime Parasyte, Death parade, death note, monster, steins gate, made in the abyss, promised never land, Evangelion, code geass, 86, and Legend of the Galactic Heroes are amazing and hold their own. If you liked AOT I’m sure you’ll be fond of these. If you’re interested in novels and want mystery, action, great world building, amazing characters/development, compelling story I’d recommend you check out LOTM (Lord of the mysteries) or ORV (Omniscient Readers Viewpoint) one of the best web novels I’ve read and I’ve met little people who disliked both (in fact a animated trailer just dropped for LOTM if you’re interested in getting a preview of the story. Apparently it’s coming out 2025 which I’m super excited for)
@@Kupookupo Some of these animes are good, but they just don't have the same complex and quality story like attack on titan. I watched Promised Neverland S1 and Code Geass, but I'd say Death Note is the best recommendation. It's serious, dark, and at some point you don't know on which side you are on. But what I really liked about AOT is the mystery behind the titans. From the first season to the 3rd/4th, you wonder what is beyond the walls, who are the enemies, why all of this is happening, what is in the basement, etc. You are in same situation as the people of Paradis, and you slowly get more clues through amazing plot twists.
@@DareToEntertain ill never forget the pure look of fear in reiner's eyes when he meets the changed eren before he goes titan and just decimates the city and when everyone was celebrating on the beach meanwhile eren just stares at the horizon with nothing but fear himself.
No. Eren was always a villain. And he was always unhinged and intense. Most people just don’t understand that in season 1. Most of us had to get 3 seasons deep to realize he wasn’t ever wrapped right. The circular story telling that we realize towards the end of the show let’s us in on how broken his brain was.
There are no shows/movies like Attack On Titan, truly a modern masterpiece. Wish I can wipe out my memory of this show just to experience it again like first time.
To hear this makes the first few lines of the video hit harder upon thinking I wrote that line 6 months ago. Still it rings true. I had hoped someone would tell me “Charles. Don’t fret. I know the answer” Thankfully it looks Vinland saga might be a start so once I put my phone down and stopping being chronically online. Hopefully that Can help. Also chainsaw man slaps.

Dude. When I finished the last episode I was left with an empty feeling. It baffled me because I've never felt that one before. After a while I realized I was feeling empty because one of the greatest stories I've ever seen has ended. There's never gonna be anything like it again, and if there will be one eventually, then I'll probably have to wait for *years* because storytelling this phenomenal is *RARE*
I have to say. I watched AoT in japanese and never batted an eye when people told me it was also good english. And I was really NOT expecting for the english version of Erwin's suicide mission speech to give me this level of goosebumps. AoT really has it all.
@@execthegamingThank YOU. The amount of people I see praising the dub as one of the "good dubs" has me wondering wtf y'all are smoking to favor THAT 💩 over the original.
jap is still superior to the eng dub, prefer jap eren every time. plus they changed the titan sounds somewhat (especially the attack titan's roars) which sound like gurgling water.
This show has changed me and touched my soul more than a fictional story should ever have and I am not a weak man I can still remember my last year in high school watching season 2 on my laptop in the balcony with wide eyes, summer time, electricity cut off, cool breeze Tanks less than 1 km away on hold It was 2012 or 2013 hearing bombs going off far away, and there was it the most complete moment of my life I survived a war that was enforced to my country, I escaped death 2 times by then I lost family members, we only demanded freedom I left the country and all my memories there in 2015 I had to build something out of my self from 0 in a new country which is didn’t speak its language This show felt like it was growing up with me it was so annoying to wait years for new seasons It was like my friend for some reason i felt so close maybe too close to these characters I am now somewhat successful in life at 27. I got married to my lovely wife who watched this show and shared the love Recently i was finally able to apply for new citizenship and got offered to change my name, i choose Eren and can’t wait to get my id holding this name And even though i read the manga 2 years ago and cried like a little boy by myself i still had my eyes tearing when i watched it with my wife Life has been weird since 2020 guys as i am laying down in the bed thinking about how I don’t feel any huge trumas living for +100 in my 27 I came across this ost I got flooded by memories and tears wanted to share above I also haven’t felt safer in my life than being in that balcony watching aot while tanks are 1km away Cheers
yeah. we both might share the similar story. grew up in the same country probably too. and had to flee it due to the civil war. AoT was one of the early animes i picked up. and seeing it developes over the years to mirror my life experience with world politics is fantastical. from the moment you see the titans suddenly appear and the world peace we took for granted is swept away, to the dellimea we are in now in the ending. hopefully irl it wont be that grim.
@@joemartin7451 irl looks more bizarre nowadays idnw if with me only. I do respect good stories and i tend to dislike all endings of most of my fav shows Yet AOT literally transcended for me i dont see it as an anime even with bad ending I was fighting the temptation to watch the last 2 episodes since i read the manga while ago and didn’t like the finale Yet it really haven’t bothered me watching when i did this piece of story feels more like the old safe place in my memory I would rather choose for eren to complete the rumbling. The nihilistic vibes at the end discussing if ziks plan was better while going to kill eren is a first in story telling world This show feels like the lock on the door for all past traumas Cheers man have a good life
I wish you, your wife and your family all the best. You deserve it. I’m so happy this show was able to help you Eren, who knows what you’ve been through. War is an awful thing to think of let alone be part of. I wish you nothing but the best in life
I can safely say that AoT is one of the pieces of Art that definitely changed my life, and I can confidently say that no other art piece will ever have an impact on me like it had. I still struggle to find a piece of Art where the Main Character himself could be considered to BE the World-building itself, or to have everything based around him without it feeling forced, pointless, or boring. Isayama literally makes you trust him from the very first episode, at the expense of you, the viewer, paying good attention to the story and the details, with an open-mind(which is something the people who blindly hate on this show because it's "cool", don't do). The writing also made me change the way I see every movie, animes and shows for good and for bad haha. It incouraged me to give shows that didn't grab me from the first 3 episodes another chance. I got into the show about a year and couple months ago and I'm still in love with it, I still find new stuff to appreciate about it. I even convinced my mom to watch it with me and she's enjoying it. I can't wait to see her reaction to what happens after Season 1.
If we talk about Gabi she is a character with a complete arc . We saw all phases she went through from ignorance , to hate and then realisation . Her character arc is complete. I know some people hate her but her character is just too good
Literally couldn't agree more. If anything I feel her arc is a microcosm of what I think is the shows main theme is, the idea that there are no good guys and bad guys only the sides we happen to be on.
I always thought of Gabi as the Eren that managed to break free from the cycle of hate. MANGA SPOILERS Thats probably also why she got a happy end while Eren didn't.
the thing you especially hit the nail on the head for was that we never felt we knew what the right decision was. After season 1 and until season 4, I couldn't predict, and didnt want to try to predict, anything. And until season 4, every characters actions made perfect sense and seemed to be intelligence driven. Then theres Gabi
What I love about Aot is how they're able to make us care about minor characters who die as fast as they're introduced. Marco, Ymir, and Marlo are a few that come to mind. If you think I cried when Marlo died then you're damn right.
I recommend watching Vinland Saga. It tackles a lot of the same themes as AOT, and it is very well executed, with some of the best character development I've ever seen.
Vinland is a real well told story. I've been reading the manga since day one and love the transformation from first to second arc. It's just me but the historical setting of Vinland Saga means it's a strictly character driven story without the imaginative world building that series like AoT or Chainsaw man where lots of creative lores and world building themselves drew me in. So if you're jumping from AoT to Vinland Saga, have that expectation in mind.
Thank you!! Any other stories (manga or not) as good as AoT? I mean anything, books, movies, shows, mangas? AoT has left such a void, I would love a new world and lore to dive into but I’m afraid lighting doesn’t strike twice 😢 I will say I love Anakin’s downfall, I reminds me of Eren’s and also feels earned. Not as perfect a world but close.
Funny I am only just seeing this comment now. Yes, Vinland is amazing. A 30min video essay on it literally just dropped last night. Please let me know what you think!
The thing that a lot of people miss in Gaby's stay in Paradis is the look in the eyes of the main cast when talking to her. It's not a look of discomfort of "oh she hates us" it is a look of solemn understanding. There are some life experiences that are so universally relatable, but ONLY if you've gone through it. The one I'm most familiar with is losing a parent. People wo've never had that happen will immediately jump to "I'm so sorry for your loss!" While people that have been through the same will just change to that same look. They know exactly what goes through you and how to approach you. There is no awkward condolances, no attempts at relating to the mourning persons level. There is nothing they can say to fix it and they know: the person has to go through that process themselves. You can help them when they stumble but they have to get through and grasp with those feelings themselves. Same with the cycle of violence and hatred. Every character of the 104th knows how that boiling rage feels and they feel such a deep sense of understanding that you can see it in their eyes. They are not uncomfortable around her, they are too comfortable. That slight elation from knowing someone who understands immediately drowned out by the intense wish that this person didn't have to go through what brought them to this point. The 104th knows what it takes for a person to be that stuck in hatred and violence and they know they can do nothing but show her that they are not what she thinks they are. They are not devils, but there is no amount of words they can use to convey that, so they don't even bother. I have not seen that solemn look of understanding anywhere else in anime but here. It's bloody brilliant!
How I know this show is a masterpiece is the seemingly endless new takes such as yours where I can rewatch through that lense and gain a new appreciation for it!
AOT is a perfect example of great writing. It unfolds. It is organic. Full of details. Respects the viewers. Rewatchable right after. It is a perfect anime.
Yep… that and the constant notion of becoming a devil to save your loved ones humanity. Alongside commander Pixis saying that humanity to stand together will need a great evil to unite against to Eren. It’s all to obvious. Yet we missed it
@Weyland Punani Bold of you to assume they haven't read the ending. Its not ruined. You're acting like Eren made some type of blood path. We all say outlandish things in anger however did at least fully attempted to actualize that line and ended up destroying 80% of the word so no, it's far from ruined.
AOT is genuinely the greatest piece of fiction I think I will ever see in my life. Amazing video that basically put all my thoughts on this show into words.
I'm so glad you and other creators are making videos about aot. I always tell my friends about how good aot is but now so many people are gonna see why people like me like it so much
Showing friends this show and rewatching it as they watch it for their first time has cemented it as one of the best shows in my opinion. There are so many twists and the world is so interesting it just leaves you with infinite conversations to be had.
You all know you can rewatch it right, the 2nd and 3rd watches allows you to see so much that was missed on initil viewings. The added context shows you just how on the nose everything was and how its so so so brilliantly written.
That may seem unrelated to your part 4 at first cause we're talking about Attack on Titan but, there is a particular line pronounced by a character named Zeke in the still way too underrated game Xenoblade Chronicles 2 towards the end that stays stuck in my mind since then. Zeke says: "Why does anyone kill others? Because they're in your way, or because you can't bear the sight of 'em. You kill because you're weak." I actually thought about this reflection myself a few years before. It is so much harder to resist our impulse and refuse to kill to keep on searching for compromise and a way to get out of it to move on with courage and live with that. Violent people are the weakest of all. As Armin himself says in a flashback of his young kid life, others hit him because they know he's right and don't have anything left over than violence to fight back. Because they already know inside moving on and living with that is the only way. You can at least stop the violence completely and let it go. The only other viable option or true answer that will prevent any pain and trauma only a few seem to succeed to apply is thinking about all of your actions in advance to see where it could go, what consequences it could have. To preciously cherish everything you have right now and make everything in your power to keep it safe. That imposes a radical change of perspective and you'll never be able to be carefree ever again, but keep in mind that when it's too late it's too late and maybe you'll reconsider your life's view and will be more mindful. Is living life to the fullest really worth all this pain inflicted on you and others? *Advice for next manga:* It's kinda sad in a way you started mangas/animes by watching what can arguably be considered the best manga of all time. I'm not sure you'll ever be able to find something that could top that. But maybe you don't have to. Knowing that you directly come from Comics, watching or reading My Hero Academia next seems to be the perfect choice to me. You may find a little comic vibe in it that will be funny, but it mainly stays a manga about super heroes which is a very original concept. And this is mainly about what it means to have the shoulders to protect people as a vocation and a job. It really does a great job at making us think deeply about those heroes of the real world like doctors, firefighters and so on. Of course, there is very cool super powers, good action and great animation. There is also this archetype of the leader which is actually a central point of the manga and how can others succeed to shine and protect the population when this leader isn't there. Also the initiation to become someone who can save others in practice, giving everything for your dreams and never giving up on it. I'm pretty sure it would be the perfect manga for you. No fillers obviously. The anime is great and totally worth watching even though there is apparently a bit of cut content that was problematic for manga readers (especially for season 5, definitely the weakest). It's less mature than Attack on Titan but Attack on Titan is already very mature for a manga. It still talks about important topics and it treats it very seriously so no worries. It's not finished yet but its end is near apparently.
Im just glad aot is getting its recognition i’ve followed the show since 7th grade middle school and am now a junior in college. And its surprisingly STILL underrated because im still trying to convince non anime watchers to watch it lmao😂 both breaking bad and aot are truly the best shows EVER
"convince non anime watchers" This show sold me on the medium as a whole. This video is an attempt to pull others over who are doubters to become apart of this culture. I am trying my friend. Hahaha
my friend who is into anime got me to watch it and i didn’t want to at first bc i hate anime but i god this was on of the best shows ever i love aot alot
its surprise me that they are actually going to finish it think how long after season 1 did season 2 came out usually anime being MIA for that long get cancel
I love how you can see how the anime progressed in terms of popularity throughout the whole run through the opening themes first they were all Japanese openings even in the English dub and then for the English dub towards the last two seasons they switched to opening songs in English really signifies how much traction the anime got in the years running
The only downside to this video (for ME personally) was hearing the English version of the anime. The Japanese version rocks sooooo hard when it comes to conveying emotions. Especially Eren's screams of anger and pain. Wow.
I have watched all the key sequences and episodes in sub. I love the sub. Just with my ADHD I find it a lot easier to watch dub. Even though I have enjoyed shows in sub. My attention and memory associates a lot more with sound then visual. I forget more info if its written compared to vocal. Sorry bout that.
@@DareToEntertain Oh wow I just wrote a comment about how I disagree or rather experience/perceive one of your points differently and was thinking it could be due to me having ADHD lol. Goes to show how ADHD can have different expressions for some things. I wouldn't say my attention or memory associate more or less when I consume visual vs audio information. But I do get more distracted by sounds rather than by visual clutter for example. Especially speach. I also am very into linguistics, language as a phenomenon in general, and foreign languages. That probably makes it so that I feel more stimulated with the sub but in a good way. I feel more engaged. Definitely the type of ADHD that mostly craves more stimulation than non-ADHDers and more rarely needs less. I rarely feel overstimulated, it's so much more frequent for me to feel understimulated. So basically I pay better attentiton to the story of an anime if my attentuon gets grabbed by noticing things about the Japanese language (and by extention indirectly about the culture too) at the same time I'm supposed to pay attention to the plot. Sounds very counterintuitive, but it's also for the same reason why I have to have a podcast during the most mundain daily tasks (tidying the kitchen), music with words during tasks that need more of my attention (cooking, showering), music without words for task that need even more (sorting out a drawer, reading a book for uni), and no music but pure silence for stuff I really gotta concentrate on (study sessions where I actually tackle the material). I hope this was an interesting read, ADHD is hella my topic now bcs I just recently discovered I have it and I'm 27 lol. I'll officially get my diagnosis in just 2 days. The way it has put my whole life into perspective is even more insane than how AOT kept putting everything in perspective with each discovery lol.
I'm so tired of seeing comments about Eren being "evil" as a young kid or turned "villian" during his teen years. Erin was PROTECTING a young girl (Mikasa) from being abducted/trafficked. He found the courage at such a young age to go up against adult men in his eyes, as "monsters" in clothing. Had he not taking action, there wouldn't have been a Mikasa in AOT. How many children in the past till now are abducted, trafficked, physically abused/trafficked, tortured, or dead cause no one was there to help save them? Then to be bullied or beat up constantly as a kid for standing up for himself, his truths, his beliefs, or for others. Then to witness his mother's death & felt the pain of helplessness. He was driven by his truths, by his pain, by the loss of his mother, the anger of so much death around him, etc. Erin was a kid with heavy burdens. Commenters continue to speak on the 80% of human he took during the rumble. What happened to the innocent lives (babies/children) that the titans killed, Reiner killed, Bertoldt killed, Annie enjoyed killed, Zeke killed? The Marleyians intentions were to annihilate the Eldians & the manipulated other Eldians & countries to jump on board in doing it. The people on Paradis was living their lives & the enemies came to them. I don't blame Eren, Erwin, or Floch for standing up & fighting for the cause/safety of their Island/country. We tend to forget, Eren & company knew nothing that layed outside the walls or beyond the waters. Therefore, when he went to Marley, he probably believed that was the only group of people. He nor the rest had no clue what layed beyond the borders of Marley. We are so quick to judge & criticize someones action not having a clue of what we would do if ever placed in a position like his. Eren was dealt an unfortunate hand & he played it how he thought was best at the expense of sacrifices. Eren was human & he felt all the emotions of the decisions he made or had to make. In order to succeed or make brutal/harsh decisions, you have to become emotionless in order to press foward. Levi did it. Erwin did it. It's wasn't easy but it was their decision to push forward. How can you talk peace to people who hate you & have intentions of causing you death? Causing genocide to your own people. Eren was very human & his human instincts was to protect his friends, family, & country & annihilate the enemy. Instead, his friends/comrades sided with the enemies who brutally killed their loved ones. Same enemies who destroyed their homes & innocent lives. But yet, Eren is in the wrong & hated on. Eren wasted his life for what? A delayment to what happened eventually. Destruction to Paradis. The entire show Mikasa protected & loved Eren & the moment he asked her that one question, she couldn't even be honest. Children carrying the burdens of war will definitely change them from being the happy go lucky kids they once were. At the end of the day, Eren was still just a kid.
"Instead, his friends/comrades sided with the enemies who brutally killed their loved ones. Same enemies who destroyed their homes & innocent lives. But yet, Eren is in the wrong & hated on." u seriously took nothing out of this anime did you
I wish i could forget it to see it again. I will give it a year of break to rewatch it. Other original anime i recommend:- Monster Violet evergarden A silent voice Erased They are not as good as AOT but are worth a try.
rewatch won't be as good as the first one but still, you know everything, can pay attention to dialogues even better, and the foreshadowing elements just pop up nicely so yeah this show is worth a rewatch imo
Started watching it when I was 17, am now 26. Can confidently say my life would have taken a completely different route if I hadn't seen it. I know it sounds childish, but I don't regret any of it and I am content with where I'm at.
I also feel that way. Had to tell my therapist that animes like Attack on Titan keep me sane in my moral compass. Until S4 hit and Eren went full villain.
It doesn't sound childish at all. We as humans like to think of ourselves as rational beings but we aren't. What keeps people going, through the darkest hours of their lives, the hardest moments, isn't logic or reason. It's the narratives of our lives that we believe in. And those narratives are stories. Stories are what have captivated us since we crawled out of our caves and people have lived and died and loved and lost at the behest of the stories they believe in. Though I'm not a believer myself, arguably one of the greatest stories ever told is the bible, and anyone who knows anything about history knows just how much the bible has inspired believers to ever greater feats in its name, either good or evil. Because religon offers us a overarching narrative which we can simply put our trust in and not worry about. Or even on the everyday level, where how you go about your life is dependent on what you believe the story of your life should be. You get x grades in school because the person you want to be, or the person you think you are would get x grades. You go to x university because that's the university that offers the character of you the path forward to get to where you think it should be. And then you get subsequent x job, marry x partner, have x children. All because of the story you believe in. And on a personal note, I get what you're saying completely. I never read the manga but I just finished the finale to the anime that came out only a few days ago. Stories as profound as attack on titan make you seriously think about the world, about the nature of humanity, the nature of good and evil or if such words like good and evil even matter. When you grapple with questions as serious as those, it changes you. Just the process of the grappling can change you, or sometimes you may even come to an answer that you believe in. Another story. And when you settle on answers to questions that go as hard as these, it really does change you inside forever. And you never see the world the same again. Two of the stories that have affected me the most in being exposed to these questions is AOT ofc, and also the Game of Thrones novels; A Song of Ice and Fire. Idk if you've ever read those, but reading them gives me close to the same feeling that AOT does. The feeling of not knowing what's right, of being presented with excruciating choices, of seeing both the best and worst of humanity on full display, and everything in between, but not always on the side you'd want it to be. I'm a lifelong reader, which makes it kind of ironic that I've only seen the anime and haven't read so much as a page of the manga. But seeing this masterpiece of a story play out has changed my life as well.

One of the things I love about attack on titan is how they handled the military police they were seen as the most powerful regiment where only the really skilled soldiers go to but in reality they were just corrupt the officers would just go on lunch breaks, and in terms of strength between regiments they were nothing compared to the garrison and the scouts and it because painfully obvious during the fight with Annie where the M.Ps really had no clue on how to handle the threat being presented and would get bitched by the scouts almost every time for a regiment where supposedly only the most skilled soldiers where allowed they really get outsmarted
I want to remember Attack on Titan, because every time I revisit it I notice something new or develop a new perspective. People who only look at it like an action anime take for granted that this show actually has a lot of things to say about war, love, hate, history, friendship, patriotism, religion etc. I spent a decade following this story and it's now part of me and how I see the world. That said, the basement reveal is without a doubt the greatest plot-twist in all of fiction and I'd love to rediscover it again.
Before I watch this video, I bet it's a "I wish I never saw AoT because it was too fucking good and now it's my standard that other shows seemingly can't reach". Edit - I was right 😂. AoT is one of the best stories that I've ever come across in entertainment media, animated or not. Its depth is insane and it's crazy how well connected everything is and how it is only better the more you rewatch or analyze the series. Each character has importance and is developed, and the story blew my mind first time through and still does even now. It's definitely the one show that I'd love to rewatch again in a blind watch through.
Interesting dissertation. But fear not newcomer! The best part of stumbling into your first anime is realizing the back catalogue of absolute classics that await you. Berserk, Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, FMA... I see far more of these videos in your future.
i'm in my 30s and have watched tons of anime and while those are good shows in a lot of ways, i think they are just lacking in general satisfaction compared to AoT. If I was like 20 and AoT was the first anime i ever saw... i think i would seriously have a lot of trouble appreciating some of those shows. watching like.... cowboy bebop and eva and trigun and fma in 2000-2004 era was absolutely incredible... but I really think AoT just blows them out of the water! isayama is just a freaking master storyteller
@@gregkrazanski I nearly feel sorry for him. imagine starting your anime-career wit AoT and not knowing where to go to next.... though I think that Eva would not be a completely horrible next show to watch...
@@gregkrazanski i agree i'm also in my 30s and despite watching/reading several anime, manga, movies and books and enjoying many of them nothing comes close to aot it's simply a work of art
That skit was brilliant fuck youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu XD For real though, Attack on Titan has had a huge effect on my life and I’m glad you’re finally dipping your toes into anime shows. There’s a lot of hidden gems and some of the greatest stories of all time and I wish you a safe voyage.
Thank you so much for coming from twitter to here to comment this. And thank you for getting to the skit hahaha I put so much work into that. I know the anime community gets a lot of flack but honestly. Every single person has ran up to me to give me the most kind responses all over the internet. Feels like a friend you havent seen in years asking How I have been. On tik tok or twitter, everywhere its these arms of welcoming and literally no gatekeeping. Tiktok i often do bait videos for a laugh and they see through it and then offer a hand into getting into the very thing I was baiting. Its insane! Again thank you for watching.
I had the exact same feeling. Attack on Titan wasn’t the first anime I watched, but when I finished the series about a year ago I had no idea where to go still haven’t found anything that satisfied me the way AoT did. I’ve seen lots of great anime, but nothing as gripping as that and I don’t think I’ll find something like that for a long time. I’ve heard lots of good things about Vinland Saga and the first manga volume was very good so I might start watching that soon.
I wish more stories were more well thought out like AOT’s story. I’ve seen so many shows where it’s clear the end was either rushed or they pulled stuff out of their ass and called it a day. The end for AOT has been planned since very early.
It was interesting seeing the perspective of someone who's not into anime, showcasing their thoughts on this story in such elaborate ways, showing just how truly captivating aot is and how unexpectedly it draws all kinds of people from everywhere in. There's nothing quite like this piece of media and I don't think there will be anytime soon, so I can very much empathize with the "Where do I go now" and how do I get into storytelling I used to love when this set the bar above and beyond. Well, I've watched quite a number of things and while the thing I'm attached to the most is something as flawed as Naruto, there is another Anime that is extremely unique and more grounded in realism rather than the usual "typical anime" style, that I can recommend, which is also my favorite one next to Attack on Titan. Monster (2004) adapted from Naoki Urasawa's Manga. It is one of the greatest stories I have ever had the privilege of watching, just like aot. Of course, it's an entirely different setting but similar in unmatched build up, amazing pay offs, incredibly engaging mystery, satisfying character arcs and just through and through great storytelling. You don't really get filler and while some parts are slower, there's not a single boring or meaningless second of its runtime. It's so different from every anime I've seen, so much more authentic. That's why I compare it to Attack on Titan and cherish it as much. Whatever you end up deciding to watch going forward, (you've probably been beaten over the head for this already so I'm sorry but) If you haven't already, I do really recommend rewatching aot in original japanese with subtitles. The dub is pretty good, no question, though the experience of hearing the original actors pouring their all into their performance, some of the greatest I have ever seen, is so worth witnessing and may give you a new perspective on an already compelling story and its characters. It can feel unfamiliar at first but it really pays off, if you decide to revisit sometime. As for now, I hope you can find enjoyment in something new after experiencing something as mind-blowing as aot and as I said, my suggestion is Monster, I'm sure it's not a let down :)
@@essennagerry happy to hear that! It means a lot to me and I really would recommend it to everyone interested in complex storytelling, especially if you loved snk which is just as unique :) I hope you enjoy if you choose to get into it!
@@essennagerry oh sorry, I forgot I used the shortening aot in my previous comment to avoid confusion, I'm actually used to writing snk (Shingeki no kyojin) instead, my bad
Welcome to the anime club. This anime was the reason I first started watching anime, this medium gave me the type of storytelling I needed. Thanks for the wonderful video I really enjoyed it
Edit: you know it’s an amazing anime when you compare it to live action television and it doesn’t compare?? That’s just amazing, great video!! Watching this over the past 10 years and then finishing the manga it’s been the most exhilarating experiences I’ve had watching a show in general, wish I could watch this for the first time again
AOT is one huge melting pot of genre and theme. The only piece of fiction I’ve seen that has combined it gracefully. It’s action, thriller, mystery, horror, drama, fantasy, adventure and apocalyptic. One of the best pieces of fiction, dare I say, the best piece of fiction I myself have seen. I used to be one of the haters, hating on this show the most, calling it mediocre and boring. Luckily I rewatched it as an adult and my entire perspective change. Now when I see people hating on it, calling it overrated or meaningless or whatever they say to help themselves cope I just chuckle and shake my head. It truly is a great feeling to be one of the luckiest people to watch this journey come to an end.
Funny I first got into AOT in Afghanistan while deployed, a buddy had the first season on a USB drive I downloaded and I've been a fan ever since its been a treat to watch AOT grow over the years and only get better
A great video that really captured the feeling of watching something so grand that it feels like nothing can live up to it! One thing I'd like to add is that saying Erwin "rejected" the serum might be a bit of a mischaracterization of the complicated dynamics of Erwin's personal goals and true nature. It's unclear if he would've even rejected the serum if he were lucid enough to make a decision. Erwin was a leader with a personal goal to know about the outside and that is what made him so perfect for the role. Isayama sensei said that Erwin fooled himself as an adult by convincing himself he was fighting for humanity's future, when it was actually far more personal. However, when he was pushed to the edge, his true nature showed and he chose to die with the new recruits. That scene where he "rejects" the serum is him raising his hand in class as a young boy and he asks the teacher, "how do we know there are no humans outside the walls?" Despite the choice he made, even in that moment that was his burning question. Hajime Isayama once explained the literary appeal of a character dying while still chasing their dreams. in a quote talking about Erwin's death, Hajime Isayama said "During that moment, I illustrated the panels while thinking, 'Everyone is a slave to something.' Perhaps Erwin was enslaved by his 'dream.' And as long as he lives, he cannot find freedom from it - only in death is there liberation. For Erwin, Levi abandoning his rescue is also using death to release Erwin from his shackles." Again thank you for the great video :)
First of all I’d like to say how impressed I am at how thorough, thought out, and meticulous you were in creating this video. You really did your homework and is was a wise decision to take your time on this one so you could carefully and accurately articulate your thoughts and opinions which you did beautifully so a big round of applause for you! Secondly, if you appreciate very complex characters and meaningful discussions on on deep topics like ethics, morals, and philosophy, I’d suggest Death Note to be the next anime you check out. It’s well written with brilliantly crafted characters and high stakes. It’s among my top 5 so highly recommend it! Personally I only got into anime at the start of covid and since then have gradually made my way through the many genres within the anime umbrella. I can appreciate where the negative reputation anime has comes from. It’s a genre of entertainment that is in no way perfect. But I think that because it’s such a massive space you can really find a lot of great content that will appeal to you. Also, just a side note - I might be a bit biased on this but I’d like to address your concerns about My Hero Academia. I totally agree with you that depicting a young girl like that is not appropriate and I totally understand why that would be a turnoff if that is some of your first exposure to the show. But as far as I know, that is exclusively the manga. The anime, while it does have a few “perverted“ characters and it does have some fan service, never personally gave me the sense that it’s trying to greatly sexualize a character. I say this, not only because it is one of my favorite anime shows (for good reasons), but because I believe it has a great story with a cast of incredible characters that you fall in love with much like you do with the cast in AOT. There are epic fights and amazing story and character arcs. Also, there are excellent themes throughout the story that leaves me feeling inspired, motivated, and this sense of wholesomeness that make me sitting down to watch a 23min episode not feel like a total waste of time, unlike many other shows that fail to deliver the same “after taste.” Again, I clearly am a big fan of the show, but I truly believe that you might become a fan yourself if you just give it a try. All in all, this was a great video that earned my respect and convinced me to click subscribe 😉 Great job and keep up the good work 👍 Looking forward to watching you on your anime journey!
My god. Thank you. This is one of the best comments I’ve ever received on a video. Not only have you watched the video (77minutes is a long time) you’ve been able to take specific things I’ve said and respond to them. Some that weren’t even a call to action, thank you. This video was a massive undertaking and making sure I depict a true version or a caricature of myself when I had just finished it. Since finishing the script and I began editing my first venture out was death note as you mentioned, my god. Death note was fucking amazing. It’s last 3rd is a little weak but still so so good. Masterful story and is the great depiction of cat and mouse I have ever seen. Period. With my hero… I hope my video made clear that I come from a place of ignorance and a harsh criticism like the ones I was giving was coming a place of I don’t know X but this seems bad, and icky. I have certainly not ruled out my hero. But it may be down the list on shows I make my way too. Again thank you. I hope to grow as a creator to expand not only the topics of videos I make. But also formatting. This larger, deeper video essay was my driving force for going to work in the morning for 6 months. Thanks for watching and subscribing. 😊
@@DareToEntertain Of course, it was my pleasure! I genuinely enjoyed watching it:) I was wondering, would you ever consider doing an analysis video on death note? As far as I’m aware you haven’t yet and if you choose not to for whatever reason that totally fine and cool I was just wondering:) Also, as far as my hero academia goes, no worries. I get that things that dapple in questionable or controversial areas care sensitive and appreciate and admire your sensitivity towards such content. (Maybe I should be more sensitive myself) I just wanted to make you aware that the show has a lot to offer and is loved for a reason. 😊 If you ever watch it that’s great and if not no sweat;)
Death Note is a topic I absolutely want to cover but I’d need to find the perfect idea for a script. Due to the size of my channel I need to be a bit picky in what topics I cover. I am really hoping to turn this into a full time job where I can cover literally any topic, but for now. Just gotta be a bit safe
@@DareToEntertain I get it and that’s smart of you to take your time. Looking forward to seeing where you and your channel go and happy to have joined your community:)
This was, in general, a great video. However, the part that stood out to me was at the end, when you talk about anime as a whole. It's rare I find someone who shares my stance on fan service and anime tropes, and how they can ruin entire shows just by being there. Attack on Titan, much like it did to you, raised my standards for media as a whole. A strong recommendation I have is JoJo's Bizzare Adventure. It's a show that is so unique, so outside the shitty and cringy tropes of shounen that it's hard to believe it is one. Definitely worth a watch simply for the insane amount of creativity and artistic value it oozes out of every pore.
Thank you for watching and commenting mate. You wouldn’t believe it. But I started JoJo literally a few days ago. Up to ep5 or 6. It’s so wacky and fun. Amazing recommendation. But yes, fan service is a weird issue. I wrote that part to really come across as someone who is entering the space for the first time. And how it comes across. I know there’s a treasure of amazing anime. But! This fear or issues around the trope absolutely do exist
Such a nice breakdown of the series. I get sad every time I think to myself "What if AoT is the best work of fiction (for me) that will come out during the time I live"
Season 4 has made me so conflicted but I guess that’s the point. It hurts to see the boy I was rooting for so hard in season 1 to succeed and get revenge, is pushed into becoming a monster who will kill the rest of the humanity to protect his own people.
I saw AoT when it first began airing in 2013, when I was a freshman in high school. It was not my first anime but it has been just as impactful. I was lucky to avoid most spoilers and finally finished watching it 11 years later. I was attached to these characters to this story and I was sobbing endlessly throughout the last 2 episodes. Saying goodbye to these characters and this world has been heartbreaking but ultimately I'm so grateful for this amazing work.
I think I watched AOT at least 40 times in total (including the reactions I watched) and it's still not enough. I want Eren to wipe my memories of this show with the Founding Titan just so I can re-experience it whole. Anyway great video !!!! I wasn't planning on watching it all but here I am 1 hour later 😂 Very interesting and in depth analysis of what makes this story so amazing.
YES! Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is an incredible anime. Hard to find stories that compare to the depth, sense of despair, and level of planning of AOT, but I wouldn't hesitate to say Brotherhood in the least holds a candle to AOT on each of those categories. Especially if you've never seen FMA before... Once you find our whats really happening, it becomes deeply unsettling. I wish I could relive that moment. Peak art.
@@jjthomson2815 Haha Just funny I see this convo now having just starting FMAB the other day. Its been amazing so far. I think it was ep 14 or 16 was insane.
One of my favourite animes is called Violet Evergarden....not only is the animation breathtaking but the characters and story as a whole is amazing in my opinion. Definitely recommend!
just watched AOT entirely from season 1 until season 4 part 3 all for the first time and I'm so grateful i could witness it in all of its glory in one go
I’m 13 episodes into the 4th season I love it so far, it’s very depressing but so beautiful I’ll update when I’ve finished the season from what I’ve heard I’ll cry a lot lol
Most people don’t know the ending was changed early on. There was an interview asking the frat or how it’s supposed to end. The original ending everyone was supposed to die early on, but he changed it due to how popular it quickly became. I don’t know exactly when he decided to change the ending, but at one point, he started winging it.
That must have been before the show was made, considering the very first episode is titled "to you, 2000 years in the future" which has a direct connection to the final arc
I love attack on titan for the sheer amount of suspense, action, beauty, joy, sadness, and confusion it leaves you when a character ends out to become a huge villain or even when they are simply riding horses through the grassy plains or birds eye shots of entire cities. Even the epic battles that play out are absolutely stunning to watch because you wonder who is gonna come out on top all the time. Or maybe I've just fell in love with this show a bit too much and appreciate every last spec of it, it brings tears of sadness, and joy to my eyes.
I first started watching Attack on titan a few months ago and I got this recommended on RUclips shortly after and I thought to my self "it’s just a show. It can’t affect someone like that right?" But after finishing season 3, I’m beginning to understand this video now.
WOW! what a video! The effort you have gone through for this show is insane! I've been so hyped for ages to hear your thoughts and opinions on AOT. I'm so glad you gave this anime a chance, and well, now you're stuck with always wanting more. Welcome to hell. I completely agree that certain anime themes and aspects are so outdated...fan-service...but I’m glad you're giving it a chance because anime can be everything you want in a show that live action can't always portray/demonstrate to an audience. To see the level of enjoyment and serious thought throughout this video shows you care about it as much as anyone watching anime does!! Recommendations: From what I can tell from your taste, you'd like these...I hope. Paprika (Movie) Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (Show) Erased (Show) The Promised Neverland (Show)
Emily thank you for this comment. I hope you stayed to see the end credits… you might see something I left there for you and a few people. I love talking anime to you and I’ve taken that dialogue and moved it to tik tok where I’ve seen tromendous growth in finding new people just like you, and just like me. This video is the embodiment. Of my life over the last 6 months. I’ll certainly add those to the list of anime. Along with those we’ve spoken about like JoJo and Vineland saga
@@DareToEntertain For that last anime they recommended, The Promised Neverland, the first season is absolutely stunning, and I simply cannot express how it captivated me. The second season however... sigh... unfortunately many see the latter as a piece that started good but fell apart at the halfway point. I am not trying to discourage you, but I just hope the second season won't smolder the flames the first season and other good animes and been kindling for you.
I wish I could wipe my memory of it every time I finish it so I can experience it all over again. It's the first and best anime I ever watched. *Amazing osts that I constantly hum *Amazing story *Amazing foreshadowing and ah ha! moments on a second rewatch *Amazing characters and even side characters are given character arcs *Amazing fight scenes *No filler or drawn out fights *OVAs add to the characters and story *Answers questions along with adding a dozen more *Story fits together so well, like Ymir's origin and Grisha's backstory Man I love this show
Another thing this show does amazingly is not only that it has set the tone from the start and stayed consistent. If you're just an anime watcher and watched it from when it aired til now, you've grown with not only the show but as a person too. 10 years in the running as a viewer you must have felt a strong connection with most of the main characters. I've only gotten into AOT around 2016 and when I was caught up, anticipation would be pretty high for the next. Especially certain epi were just jaw dropping or uncovered more truths, but more questions... This is what made the show special. It isn't your typical anime plot. ANYWAY TLDR AOT = Peak Fiction
I'm always straining to go as long as possible without rewatching it, hoping I'll forget as much as possible, but the show is so incredibly memorable and mind blowing
The fact that, now that the show is over, I still think about this story speaks volumes to its writing. The show is over, all the questions are answered. Well, except one. The show leaves you with the question “was that the best way it could have gone?” Should the eldians have just died? Should we support Eren? What he did was awful, but what would have happened otherwise is similarly awful. Obviously, from a utilitarian perspective, the small amount of people on Paradise dying compared to 80% of the world is better. And yet, we as an audience struggle to say it because of how well written the times before then were. We cannot bring ourselves to condemn Paradise because for 3 seasons now we were taught to love these people. And then with season 4, Isayama does it again, but now for the Marleyans. It is perfect. There is no happy ending. There is simply the ending that we got and we just have to live with it. Dislike the ending all you want, like it all you want, it doesn’t matter. This was always where the story was leading, and we are stuck as that 20% of humanity who sees the end. It is pure cinema.
Every single character in DN but L and Kira is braindead. All the characters around them have to ignore blatantly obvious clues constantly, otherwise Light gets caught instantly. It's the Dr Strange or Big Bang Theory of anime. Written *about* genius without any shred of genius to be found. The only scene I've seen that people seem to think approaches genius in Death Note is when Light instantly falls for an obvious trap by L by killing a man on death row, but even that does nothing but confirm that Kira is in a region of Japan. ....except that was already obvious since Kira stupidly made it obvious that's where he was already lmao. In a better written show, L would just have convinced everyone that he was from that region by using the mountain of evidence. Instead he had to TELL Kira he knew what region he was in, because that's what geniuses do! They show off how genius they are by figuring out obvious things and telling everyone about it!
Remember also that there was an editor of a Japanese manga magazine called "Weekly Jump" who refused to publish AOT, saying that it was "not appropriate for our manga magazine." Because of this person in charge, Shueisha Corp. was caught off guard by the enormous revenue of 110 million copies. On the other hand, it was the editor of "Bessatsu Shonen Magazine" who had an eye for the essence of AOT. He and Hajime Isayama brought out a masterpiece called AOT after two years of preparation. We are enjoying the animated version of AOT thanks to him.
I was in a similar situation; i always used to look down on anime as i’d considered it full of fan service and kind of weird. But i randomly gave attack on titan a go when it was on netflix two years ago and i’m so glad i did. For me personally I’ve yet to find anything i enjoy more but some animes have come close: i’d recommend deathnote, monster, fullmetal alchemist (and brotherhood) and vinland saga.
My biggest qualm with AoT is it over-dramatizes how pants-shittingly scared virtually everyone is of dying, even in battles not involving (facing) titans. People are pretty damn capable of putting aside that fear in a military context, especially when they’ve been in that danger a few times already. It’s heroism on one hand, but it’s the ability to operate in conflicts so far beyond one person in scope that allows humanity to fight wars in the first place.
@@GutsandBlood231 enough of this shit, i read the manga, yes the ending has some holes, but it didn't change my mind with the fact that it's my favorite amome. and yes i have seen pretty much every anime from jojo to clannad, and i can say that the ending will not change the fact that it is one of the best anime ever created.
The voice acting for all versions that I’ve watched have been amazing too! I’ve seen the og dub, eng dub, and a Spanish dub and all versions the voice actors put there all into it. I really can’t think of another show where the voice acting from different countries is just as good as the og dub.
I think Vinland Saga has the best english Dub Ive ever seen/heard. AoT's dub doesnt feel nearly as good and after watching it entirely in japanese, I dont think it conveys nearly as much emotion. In Vinland Saga that didnt feel that way and I think both the OG and the English Dub are equally as good.
hmmm ima have to check out vineland I keep hearing good things. Japanes dub is usually better but when it comes to certain shows even if its well done it still sounds odd. the people of Paradis are not japanese so why are they speaking it. It kills the immersion for me in certain shows.@@RobynLtW
Death Note fucking *ROCKS* Genuinaly amazing. It's first 25 episodes are some of the best tv I have seen. Cat and mouse like I have never seen it. Just wow.
This show is so good, so near "perfection" that no other show can fight for the title of the "the best" Honestly the way how i see the "good plot" after watching Atack on titan and before is just heavly diffirent
Meh "the best" will always be subjective. AoT isn't even in my top 10 for "favorite shows" and idk if it's in the top 5 or MAYBE 10 for "best written" and this is coming from someone who mainly just watches anime/reads manga. Imo Fullmetal Alchemist, Code Geass, Evangelion, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Gurren Lagann were all anime that I both like more and felt were better than AoT imo. Not all series are written in the same way though. As far as anime that have a plot written to be mysterious and convoluted, Attack on Titan might be both my favorite and the best I've seen, but you can write different kinds of stories in different ways, and "good" in one might be "bad" in another. Attack on Titan's writing was made more appealing and exciting with how many twists and curveball they threw at you, in other shows, that wouldn't just be out of place, it would disregard the entire narrative of the series. Gurren Lagann, for instance thrived on the simplistic notion of "Doing the impossible" and "Piercing the Heavens" there was some compelling plot along the way, but it pretty much was a show that had a theme than ran counter to bleak and distressing stories and worlds like AoT. That said, 3 of the anime I mentioned (CG, Eva, and GL) have a way of each delving into similar themes and each seek to have their own answers to the question of individuality and the potential loss of it. That being a thing I've always found pretty profound, and I've NEVER been that fond of shows that are depressing asf (Evangelion wasn't in my top 5 till they released movies that basically rewrote the series. I literally got depressed and physically sick the first time I watched the original anime xD) But, tl;dr, calling something "the best", bar none, disregards the merit in different kinds of series, I think
@@Zexceeda what is your top 5 then? breaking bad and game of thrones are considered to be top 5 shows oat but after watching my first anime being aot i enjoyed it more than game of thrones and its close to breaking bad which is impressive as aot is a lot shorter in watch time. The characters in aot arent goated, nor the character development, there are plot holes especially the plot holes that come with the introduction of time travel/bending with eren but it doesnt really take away from the plot. Watching game of thrones and breaking bad you feel like you are ranking the episodes as you watch; great, good, mid, bad but in aot i didnt need to think to rank the episodes because everyone was great and addicting with all of the cliffhangers that pull you in the first season, this is the only show ive seen that has you asking more questions at the end of every episode, and this series of mysterious questions of this world pile up like no show has done. I dont understand how aot isnt even in your top 10 shows. Please share your top 5 im wondering
Parasyte: The Maxim is one of my all time favorites. It’s a single season so no filler, deals with heavy themes, and has incredible character progression.
parasyte had a great concept but the execution was really, really bad. mainly because of the classic "dumb author tries to write smart characters" problem
@@redblue5140 ehh? U do know right the manga was written in 1980s? They executed it better than most of the modern animes Googling as soon as he found something's wrong with his hand and stuff was just how modern world would react
@@lakshyasinghal322 ...what? what are you trying to say, it was okay to fail at making intelligent characters in the eighties because everyone was stupid from leaded gasoline back then? what does google have to do with anything? really confused by this reply
Just got to say. That decision you made during editing to introduce Gabi's charater to your analysis with Ashes on the Fire playing in the background? Glorious.
I knew about AOT for a long time. But I didn't think it would live up to the hype surrounding it, as i have also been sceptical about the really well known animes. Until earlier this year i decided to watch it and i loved it. The world building and how things work are what i find the most interesting. Along with Levi and Mikasa. I love every minute they are on screen.
If you're into stories and world building similar to AOT, I would highly recommend watching the 90's adaptation of Berserk, as well as reading the manga. Very gritty and compelling story. I also think you should check out Full Metal Alchemist. The original, then Brotherhood after that. Berserk and FMA are both pretty light on the fan service and filler. They're both very action heavy and have very interesting worlds and stories.
I didn't think I'd stick around until the end, but I'm a sucker for literary analysis and this was a great video essay on tv/film narratives so I had to like and subscribe. Even though this is 7 months later (so idk if you'll even see this), I'd recommend you check out the anime "91 Days". It's a short 12 or 13 episode show I've seen twice, because there are a lot of characters and the pacing is very fast. It's set in Prohibition Era America, and I think you would enjoy a lot of the character archetypes in the show based on what you said in this video. Probably the most underrated anime I love that nobody I know has seen, so anyone else in the comments should check it out too.
I've been watching anime for 30 years, the same number of years I've been reading manga, and I say it loud and clear, snk is the best show I've ever seen, and I find myself orphaned for the first time after these 30 years, I don't know what to turn to any more, no film, no series has the same flavour, it's as if I regret having touched perfection
Really, 30 years and this is your all-time favorite?! Thirty years is about how long I've been watching anime as well so I imagine you've seen a load of series and movies. I mean SNK certainly is top-tier shounen, but I wouldn't rate shounen as the top genre, to begin with. I would certainly place it in my top 5 shounen, and top 30 anime of all time which is high praise since I've watched hundreds of them. Just out of curiosity, how many anime have you seen roughly? SNK is certainly a perfectly respectable #1 choice, but I'm just a bit surprised since you have literal decades of anime under your belt.
@Kirby Joe for me it's really close between Berserk and AoT. The berserk manga is impeccable but I don't truly think it can ever be adapted. Where as AoTs anime is an elevation of its source material.

I finished this show yesterday and found this video. This is a perfect title. It's so amazing that I wish I never watched it because now I will never get that feeling of sitting down and pressing play on another episode. I'm empty. It was my first anime, and I have a huge list with more to come, but I wish I never saw this first. It set a new bar. Also, the last of us 2 comparisons was a beautiful way to show what Gabi's character is. It's EXACTLY the analogy I was thinking of while watching the show.

Had the same moment, it was mind-blowing
Personally, I don't want anyone to win
Not the Yeagerists, Not Marley, not Paradis, not Hizuryu, Not even the Titans themselves
Because at the end of it all, its all pointless as seen in the new ending
The closest thing I can get to re watching Aot, is introducing it to people and watching them react to the reveals and it just brings me joy

@@DareToEntertain im literally watching this show for the 3rd time, this was my first anime, it was just so good, the story telling, the action scenes, the suspense, the foreshadowing, for example hannes says he will save eren even if he dies, and he does save eren, but he does die
Yeah, same
Yeah, same
there'a a few series that are way better like berserk or one piece. but one piece already is what you all say about this. I read books, I saw a lot of anime and series, eren is the weakest main character I have seen. The end.
Eren was definitely always like that. In the beginning on the boat, he said he would wipe them all out. From season 1-4, his perception of who the enemy is changed from titans to the entire rest of the world
all things that interfere with his pursuit and definition of freedom
I think the same as you, at the beginning it was very strange to me and I felt he changed too much in short time, when I finished then I realized he had always been like that, he was just dissapointed by the fact of who the real enemy was plus the founder influences on his head
To top it off, in the end he accomplishes that goal of ending all titans.
Also in the final episode of season 1, when he is about to bite Annie's nape, he literally says "I'LL DESTROY THE ENTIRE WORLD" and for a BRIEF millisecond you see a red silhouette of the rumbling briefly flash on screen.
*"The path to hell is paved with good intentions"* sums up half of AoT
Mutual sins in war sums the other half.

If you are up for reading manga, better read Pandora Hearts, it's criminally underrated. Deadman wonderland is also good.
You are in same situation as the people of Paradis, and you slowly get more clues through amazing plot twists.

i feel like the japanese is slightly better in terms of the emotions it delivered, English dub sounds cheesy in a couple places
The English dub is a B- at best.
The melodrama is much better expressed with the original Japanese actors.
My main issue with the English dub is Eren's roar. It isn't bad, but it just doesn't feel quite as primal as the Japanese Dub.

I recommend watching Vinland Saga. It tackles a lot of the same themes as AOT, and it is very well executed, with some of the best character development I've ever seen.
Thorfinn is the anti Eren, he knew that peace can not be achieved by violence and war so he decided to build place of peace and prosperity
I think both are incredible but AoT and Vinland are vastly different stories.
Thank you!! Any other stories (manga or not) as good as AoT? I mean anything, books, movies, shows, mangas? AoT has left such a void, I would love a new world and lore to dive into but I’m afraid lighting doesn’t strike twice 😢
I will say I love Anakin’s downfall, I reminds me of Eren’s and also feels earned.

*Advice for next manga:*
It's kinda sad in a way you started mangas/animes by watching what can arguably be considered the best manga of all time.
Mha manga is peak

The English one isn’t bad at all. Its all just down to preference.
I agree! Even though in English dub there is Mat Mercer as Levi, I love the oryginal japanese dubb! In English it looses A LOT!
Have to agree. Can’t beat the original Japanese VAs
But yet, Eren is in the wrong & hated on." u seriously took nothing out of this anime did you
10 minutes in and this is fantastic and I have tear in my eyes. It's just nice to hear someone say exactly what i'm feeling about this masterpiece.

This makes me want to rewatch the entire series
Ya gotta do it. It’s one of the best shows to rewatch. I did 2 and a half full watch throughs to make sure I was ready for this video
I wish i could forget it to see it again. I will give it a year of break to rewatch it.
Other original anime i recommend:-
Monster
Violet evergarden
A silent voice
Erased
They are not as good as AOT but are worth a try.
Finale is coming up soon. Better time than any for a rewatch!
rewatch won't be as good as the first one but still, you know everything, can pay attention to dialogues even better, and the foreshadowing elements just pop up nicely so yeah this show is worth a rewatch imo
i rewatch by way home reactions. Seeing other people get hype in turn hyped you up
Started watching it when I was 17, am now 26.
Bro this show is absolutely life altering. It’s crazy to see something NEW surpass media like Star Wars and Harry Potter by miles
@@starwarfan8342Incredibly well said, friend.
This show has changed me and touched my soul more than a fictional story should ever have and I am not a weak man
I can still remember my last year in high school watching season 2 on my laptop in the balcony with wide eyes, summer time, electricity cut off, cool breeze
Tanks less than 1 km away on hold
It was 2012 or 2013 hearing bombs going off far away, and there was it the most complete moment of my life
I survived a war that was enforced to my country, I escaped death 2 times by then
I lost family members, we only demanded freedom
I left the country and all my memories there in 2015
I had to build something out of my self from 0 in a new country which is didn’t speak its language
This show felt like it was growing up with me it was so annoying to wait years for new seasons
It was like my friend for some reason i felt so close maybe too close to these characters
I am now somewhat successful in life at 27.
I got married to my lovely wife who watched this show and shared the love
Recently i was finally able to apply for new citizenship and got offered to change my name, i choose Eren and can’t wait to get my id holding this name
And even though i read the manga 2 years ago and cried like a little boy by myself i still had my eyes tearing when i watched it with my wife
Life has been weird since 2020 guys as i am laying down in the bed thinking about how I don’t feel any huge trumas living for +100 in my 27 I came across this ost
I got flooded by memories and tears wanted to share above
I also haven’t felt safer in my life than being in that balcony watching aot while tanks are 1km away
Cheers
One of the things I love about attack on titan is how they handled the military police they were seen as the most powerful regiment where only the really skilled soldiers go to but in reality they were just corrupt the officers would just go on lunch breaks, and in terms of strength between regiments they were nothing compared to the garrison and the scouts and it because painfully obvious during the fight with Annie where the M.Ps really had no clue on how to handle the threat being presented and would get bitched by the scouts almost every time for a regiment where supposedly only the most skilled soldiers where allowed they really get outsmarted
Excellent watch!! Cant believe this is finally out love your work Charles!
Thank you Aidan. Thank you for taking part in the skit. I literally put all my effort into this. Hope people enjoy iy
A TRUELY amazing and well explained video. Great job! Keep up the good work dude!
Seriosuly thank you so much, I put my all into this. And to see the reaction to this be so positive had literally melted my heart
I wish i could watch a show with this lvl of understanding in real time
It becomes easier over time I find it. Watching Vinland saga atm has been such a joy.
What are other 5 anime that come close to AOT for you?
Evangelion would be a good option because it goes hard on character depth.
The answer is Steins;Gate
That skit was brilliant fuck youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu XD
For real though, Attack on Titan has had a huge effect on my life and I’m glad you’re finally dipping your toes into anime shows.
The Eren parody in the middle is amazing. Really enjoyed hearing your passion wwwwwwwwww
This is the Michael jordan of ANIME from the storyline the music and the characters, its just simply mind blowing 🤯
lol i told my coworker the same thing
you should watch some basketball anime if you haven't already
I had the exact same feeling. Attack on Titan wasn’t the first anime I watched, but when I finished the series about a year ago I had no idea where to go still haven’t found anything that satisfied me the way AoT did. I’ve seen lots of great anime, but nothing as gripping as that and I don’t think I’ll find something like that for a long time. I’ve heard lots of good things about Vinland Saga and the first manga volume was very good so I might start watching that soon.
Most manga aren’t thrillers really. aOT is pure thriller
I wish more stories were more well thought out like AOT’s story. I’ve seen so many shows where it’s clear the end was either rushed or they pulled stuff out of their ass and called it a day. The end for AOT has been planned since very early.
I don’t think I’ve seen any show peak as hard as AOT did in those few episodes from Erwin’s speech to reviving Armin
Thank you for your recommendation, I am curious about Monster now!
@@essennagerry happy to hear that! It means a lot to me and I really would recommend it to everyone interested in complex storytelling, especially if you loved snk which is just as unique :) I hope you enjoy if you choose to get into it!

Welcome to the anime club. This anime was the reason I first started watching anime, this medium gave me the type of storytelling I needed. Thanks for the wonderful video I really enjoyed it
Thank you for being a part of the club to kindly let me enter. You rock. Hope to go on this self discovery journey with you all.

For Erwin, Levi abandoning his rescue is also using death to release Erwin from his shackles."
Again thank you for the great video :)
All in all, this was a great video that earned my respect and convinced me to click subscribe 😉
Great job and keep up the good work 👍
Looking forward to watching you on your anime journey!
My god.
I genuinely enjoyed watching it:)
I was wondering, would you ever consider doing an analysis video on death note? As far as I’m aware you haven’t yet and if you choose not to for whatever reason that totally fine and cool I was just wondering:)
Also, as far as my hero academia goes, no worries. I get that things that dapple in questionable or controversial areas care sensitive and appreciate and admire your sensitivity towards such content. (Maybe I should be more sensitive myself) I just wanted to make you aware that the show has a lot to offer and is loved for a reason. 😊
If you ever watch it that’s great and if not no sweat;)
I wish I could erase my memories about AOT and Watch to It again
This is word for word what I was thinking right in this moment!
Same bro, aot was not my first anime but oh boy it became the best thing I've watched so far, how can people sleep on this????
Ok even I haven't watched it that many times
that's borderline insanity loool
I thought the same after I watched FMAB, a perfect and complete story I'd erase from my memory to watch again, ending is profound and beautiful
Peak art.

Him: “I wish I never watched aot”
Also him:
“I love this show”
Come on. Do some critical thinking. Connect the dots.

Thanks for looking out for me. Em being a close friend of mine has given the same warning. So thank you for also coming to my aid. Appreciate you mate
I wish I could wipe my memory of it every time I finish it so I can experience it all over again. It's the first and best anime I ever watched.
*Amazing osts that I constantly hum
*Amazing story
*Amazing foreshadowing and ah ha! moments on a second rewatch
*Amazing characters and even side characters are given character arcs
*Amazing fight scenes
*No filler or drawn out fights
*OVAs add to the characters and story
*Answers questions along with adding a dozen more
*Story fits together so well, like Ymir's origin and Grisha's backstory
Man I love this show
Great video!
That Armin quote recontextualized was mind blowing.
"Death note" is perfection, and "psychopass" season 1 is unforgettable. Both are on par with AoT.
"I wish I never watched Attack on Titan because it ruined everything else."
FACTS
My biggest qualm with AoT is it over-dramatizes how pants-shittingly scared virtually everyone is of dying, even in battles not involving (facing) titans. People are pretty damn capable of putting aside that fear in a military context, especially when they’ve been in that danger a few times already. It’s heroism on one hand, but it’s the ability to operate in conflicts so far beyond one person in scope that allows humanity to fight wars in the first place.

I'll be waiting for a remake of this video when the finale comes out.
See you then
Dude you just know I’m making content on that, I’ve read the ending so I’ll be able to be ready for it
Based pfp, based content.
One of the greatest stories I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
We are lucky to be able to witness such a thing.
Did you read manga?
The ending was trash
@@GutsandBlood231 enough of this shit, i read the manga, yes the ending has some holes, but it didn't change my mind with the fact that it's my favorite amome. and yes i have seen pretty much every anime from jojo to clannad, and i can say that the ending will not change the fact that it is one of the best anime ever created.
It's the peak of storytelling that Hollywood cannot even come near it
I admit this from the very core of heart - I HAVE NEVER WATCHED ANYTHING LIKE THIS EVER BEFORE. Its pure BEAUTY. I love you AOT❤.
The voice acting for all versions that I’ve watched have been amazing too! I’ve seen the og dub, eng dub, and a Spanish dub and all versions the voice actors put there all into it. I really can’t think of another show where the voice acting from different countries is just as good as the og dub.
The original Japanese is better, more pure than the English dub, always
When I saw the title of this video, I almost passed out- I am obsessed with AOT ( AOT is also my first anime)
My first anime gave me your feeling for AoT, it’s death note and I highly recommend it as a great gateway anime
Death Note fucking *ROCKS* Genuinaly amazing. It's first 25 episodes are some of the best tv I have seen. Cat and mouse like I have never seen it. Just wow.
at first i was like:
"is it bad? or are you just traumatized?"
and then i was like:
"oh, you're just traumatized"
This show is so good, so near "perfection" that no other show can fight for the title of the "the best"
Honestly the way how i see the "good plot" after watching Atack on titan and before is just heavly diffirent
I literally got depressed and physically sick the first time I watched the original anime xD)
But, tl;dr, calling something "the best", bar none, disregards the merit in different kinds of series, I think
@@Zexceeda i mean yeah
but it's SURELY the best of it's kind :/
Finally a man of culture here
Top 3 with aot and death note
parasyte had a great concept but the execution was really, really bad. mainly because of the classic "dumb author tries to write smart characters" problem
@@redblue5140 ehh? U do know right the manga was written in 1980s?
They executed it better than most of the modern animes
Googling as soon as he found something's wrong with his hand and stuff was just how modern world would react

What is your top 3 anime?
@@AzulaPrinzessin That's such a tough call. I would probably give a different answer every time I'm asked. Off the top of my head here are a handful of titles I thought were special in some way and which have managed to pop into my mind at the moment. Gintama, Mushshi, Girl's Last Tour, Made in Abyss, Princess Mononoke, Ghost in the Shell, FLCL, Ancient Magus Bride, Nichijou, Monogatari, Stein's Gate, Anohana: The Flower We Saw That Day, Cat Soup, Call of the Night, Hinamatsuri, FMA, Samurai Champloo, Land of the Lustrous, Golden Kamuy, Cat Soup, Grave of the Fireflies, Yagate Kimi ni Naru, Asobi Asobase, After the Rain, Baccano!, Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms, Shinsekai yori, and I better stop rambling before my top three becomes my top 300.
@@kirbyjoe7484 Aot is easily.. and i mean so easily better than all those anime you mentioned. A main standout there is steins;gate but aot is still superior but are masterpiece tho.
