I really love your selections. Yorktown class, Iowa class,AND Montana class=da best. And, with the Iowa and the Montana side by side, you can tell they looks alike.
Easy to win this stage on hardest difficulty: Ignore the aircraft in the first portion, just head straight for the minefield. Stop just short of the minefield while hammering the 2 carriers manually with forward guns. Easy. Then for the fleet just position your two cruisers on the far left to cross the T and take care of the three japanese ships on auto while the rest of your fleet makes it's escape to the north, carrier positioned to the far right. Launch 4 squads of fighters to cover the two battleships as they head West to cross the T on the cargo fleet heading north. Your two cruisers now rejoin the your carrier fleet which should be all arranged in a left/right line to take care of all attacking aircraft with AA. The cruisers will also take care of all the approaching Japanese carrier fleet. Simples! If you don't want to complete the secondary objective (the cargo fleet), this entire mission can be won on hard without launching a single plane or losing a single ship.
Anyway, Chitose and Chiyoda are CVL not CVE, also Akitsuki (do you mean Akatsuki) ? One more thing, Isuzu was there ? She was suppose to be sunk on the last battle ?! History Inaccuracy again......
It's a really good game it's just some things I don't like. The absence of the Essex class carrier. No Independence class carriers. No North Carolina class BB. A lot of things this game got wrong but if you look past that it's a good game.
I've beaten this several times on Veteran without launching a single aircraft and without any ship losses. It's doable and actually easy when you work it out. Granted I didn't destroy the convoy (secondary objective) on those occasions.

Iowa at full health and still afloat? With a huge freakin' hole in her port bow? Yeah, that seems legit.
FirebirdFour yea with it at the waterline it should’ve sank
Must be magic
They don't call it "Damage control" for nothing, I guess?
'MURICA
Yet the USS Montana not only had huge chunks taken out of her bow, but also near her rear turrets as well.
Why is it that whenever I see playthroughs of this mission, the player always chooses to barrel right through the minefield?
Christopher Manson because it dosent do too much damage, granted you should be able to deal with planes if you do go through the minefield

19:32 The most influential decision during this battle was ignoring the 7th fleet's call for assistance
imagine an extremely experienced Japanese battle group losing to a couple of yanks in a battleship
My ships don't have that range , i don't know if it's for the mod ....
Two batteships Iowa and Montana
