Still blown away by Connery giving his entire Bond check from Diamonds are Forever to the Scottish Educational Trust. Highest payday for any actor ever, at the time. What a guy!

@@TastesLikeMusic ah thanks. I really really hated that madonna song. I didn't expect it to be last. the Billy Eilish one is middle of the road and certainly not bad.
Not entirely true. Frank Sinatra was the singer who was approached first, but he turned Barry down again, just like he did for You Only Twice, hence why his daughter sang it. Johnny Mathis was then approached, but he turned it down too. Then Kate Bush was asked, but she turned it down as well. Finally, Barry asked Bassey to jump in as time was running out.
Fun fact: it was actually Rita Coolidge who came up with the piano coda of Derek And The Dominoes’ Layla. Her then-boyfriend Jim Gordon (drummer of the band) presumably took the credit.
Gotta agree with Kram about Sheryl Crow, I find her to be mostly bland, although she has a few songs that are okay. I disagree with Kram about Paul McCartney though, he deserves the accolades he gets. He could have rested on his Beatles laurels, but his solo and Wings career has much high quality work (along with some pretty bland music too.) Great idea for a ranking video though, thanks for always working hard, it's a great channel and nice to have a bonus video!
"For Your Eyes Only" should be much higher than #19 (a momentary lapse of taste from Joe). Joe and Kram are right that "Nobody Does It Better" is a top Bond song, not #16 (what were you thinking, Jason?) Of the rock songs, I'd put "Live and Let Die" at #1. It works great with the movie and as a standalone track. It's hard to believe the producers were thinking of having someone else record McCartney's song for the movie. There's a reason Sir Paul, with his incredible back catalog, keeps this one in his concert set list.
"Nobody Does It Better" is clearly the best Bond song imo and the only Bond song I enjoy outside of its Bond context. Marvin Hamlisch was a musical genius.
What a cool idea for a listography episode! I watched most of the bond films last year, I say most because there are a few of them I couldn't really get through. But in general it was a great experience, especially reading about a lot of the behind the scenes stuff made it all better. I got to say, on her majesty's secret service is a hugely underrated and great movie, and I think the song by Louis Armstrong fits perfectly in the context of that film. It's the first bond film to really establish any firm emotional connection and I still think that in some ways it does it better than some of the more modern entries. I don't really love George lazenby, but I do love Diana Rick and think she's probably the best bone girl. And the way the songs used in that film is just perfect, and adds a whole layer to the tragedy. Maybe you could say the movie itself is not very James bond, but it really works for me and the song is not a small part of that. There was another unofficial bond film, never say never again, and it had a terrible theme song.
I didn’t expect you guys to do this, what a great surprise! My favourite theme is Chris Cornell’s You Know My Name, a great intro to one of the best Bond films.
Been a fan of Bond movies for a long time. My fav bonds are Connery and Dalton. And i can't choose one movie. 25 No Time to Die (Billie Eilish) 24 Die Another Day (Madonna) 23 From Russia With Love (Matt Monro) 22 Writtings on the Wall (Sam Smith) 21 The World is not Enough (Garbage) 20 For Your Eyes Only (Sheera Easton) 19 Never say never again (Lani Hall) 18 Another Way to Die (Jack White, Alicia Keys) 17 Moonraker (Shirley Bassey) 16 The Man with the Golden Gun (Lulu) 15 Tomorrow Never Dies (Sheryl Crow) 14 You Know My Name (Chris Cornell) 13 Thunderball (Tom Jones) 12 Skyfall (Adele) 11 Goldeneye (Tina Turner) 10 Diamonds Are forever (Shirley Bassey) 9 A View to a Kill (Duran Duran) 8 The Living Daylights (A-ha) 7 We Have All the Time in the World (Louis Amstrong) 6 You Only Live Twice (Nancy Sinatra) 5 Goldfinger (Shirley Bassey) 4 Live and Let Die (Wings) 3 All time High (Rita Coolidge) 2 Licence to Kill (Gladys Knight) 1 Nobody Does it Better (Carly Simon)
When you guys talking about James Bond Themes, you can not ignored the theme of "On her majestys secret servive" (We have all the time... is just the love theme in the film and not the title) And for myself, I can't ignored the Dr. No theme. So because of this, here is my list: 1. On her majestys secret service 2. Dr. No (James Bond theme) 3. Live and let die 4. Thunderball 5. The world is not enough 6. Nobody does it better 7. A view to a kill 8. Skyfall 9. Goldeneye 10. Licence to kill 11. For your eyes only 12. Diamonds are forever 13. Goldfinger 14. You only live twice 15. Tomorrow never dies 16. From Russia with love (instr.) 17. You know my name 18. The man with the golden gun 19. All time high 20. No time to die 21. Moonraker 22. Writings on the wall 23. The living daylights 24. Another way to die 25. Die another day (of course)
TOP 1. Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney & Wings 2. You Only Live Twice - Nancy Sinatra 3. Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey 4. Diamonds Are Forever - Shirley Bassey BOTTOM 24. Die Another Day - Madonna 23. Another Way to Die - Jack White/Alicia Keys 22. Writing's on the Wall - Sam Smith 21. All Time High - Rita Coolidge Stray Thoughts -Madonna's song is by far the worst. Likely gets my vote for worst top 40 of 2002 too. -Skyfall seems like a shoe-in for the 2012 Billboard side list. -Brian Wilson wrote the Pet Sounds title track with James Bond in mind under the original title "Run, James, Run". That'd be right up there as an unofficial selection.
Hey Sherry. Good ones. Adele's song kind of grew on me when I was putting the list together. Always was a Duran Duran fan. The Bond franchise caught them right at their career peak in '85. I'm not a huge fan of Billie Eyelash's song - it's "okay". She sounds good but the song doesn't really connect with me for whatever reason. What did you think of Nancy Sinatra's song You Only Live Twice? As you know, I had two Shirley songs in my top 5. I seem to like Diamonds are Forever theme (#4) more than most folks here.
1. Live and Let Die - also one of McCartney's best solo songs. 2. Diamonds are Forever-Shirley Bassey 3. Goldfinger- Shirley Bassey 4. Nobody Does it Better- a great Carly Simon vocal 5. You Only Live Twice- Nancy Sinatra - what an opening. Fave Bond- Connery by far. Daniel Craig looks like Vladimir Putin. Maybe Putin could be the next Bond?
I think Timothy Dalton was underrated as James Bond. Those two movies were kind of the pre-Daniel Craig attempt to make the Bond franchise more serious and gritty, but I don't think audiences were quite ready for it, so they brought in Pierce Brosnan to bring back the overly hammy Roger Moore style Bond. Favorite Bond song would either be "Live and Let Die" or "Nobody Does it Better".
Yeah, Dalton laid the groundwork for a lot of what Craig did. You'd think that License to Kill (the series' attempt at a late-80s action flick) would have aged horribly, but it still really holds up.
Jason, I can't believe you're not into Bond?! I didn't care one way or the other until about 10ys ago when I caught a Bond marathon around Christmas on cable. Since then, I've been hooked. I've got tons to say about Bond. First, my favorite Bonds in order and the films I like from each of them. 1. Daniel Craig: Favorite Film - Skyfall Runner-Up - Casino Royale 2. Sean Connery: Favorite Film - Thunderball Runner-Up - Goldfinger 3. Pierce Brosnan: Favorite Film - Golden Eye Runner-Up - The World Is Not Enough 4. Roger Moore: Favorite Film - Octopussy Runner-Up - A View To A Kill 5. Timothy Dalton: Favorite Film - The Living Daylights Runner-up - License To Kill 6. George Lazenby: Only made one but it's decent Favorite Theme Songs: Number one and twenty-four were incredibly easy. Two thru ten were the most memorable. Eleven thru twenty-three are in the order of least offensive, as I remember them. 1. Skyfall - Adelle 2. Tom Jones - Thunderball 3. Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey 4. Duran Duran - A View To A Kill 5. Carly Simon - The Spy Who Loved Me 6. Rita Coolidge - Octopussy 7. Garbage - The World Is Not Enough 8. Sheena Easton - For Your Eyes Only 9. Chris Cornell - Casino Royale 10. Paul McCartney - Live And Let Die 11. A-ha - The Living Daylights 12. Louis Armstrong - On Her Majesty's Secret Service 13. Sam Smith - Spectre 14. Shirley Bassey - Diamonds Are Forever 15. Mat Monro - From Russia With Love 16. Tina Turner - Golden Eye 17. Shirley Bassey - Moonraker 18. Billie Eilish - No Time To Die 19. Nancy Sinatra - You Only Live Twice 20. Sheryl Crow - Tomorrow Never Dies 21. Gladys Night - License To Kill 22. Lulu - The Man With The Golden Gun 23. Jack White & Alicia Keys - Quantum Of Solace 24. Madonna - Die Another Day (OMG, Kram had it right. This was a shit movie w/an even shitter theme song! I feel bad for Pierce Brosnan. He deserved his last Bond film to be better than this. The worst theme song by one of the worst singers and one of the worst Bond films, ever! I could go on about how much I hate both but, if you haven't heard the theme song or seen this poor excuse for a movie, don't bother, you're much better off!)
My top James Bond themes. If it's in a film then it counts. 1: 007 Theme .. John Barry & Monty Norman 2: Goldfinger.. Shirley Bassey 3: Live and Let Die... Wings 4: Diamonds Are Forever - Shirley Bassey 5: Nobody Does It Better - Carley Simon 6: On Her Majesty's Secret Service - John Barry 7- We have All The Time in The World - Louis Armstrong 8: You Only Live Twice - Nancy Sinatra 9: Skyfall- Adele 10: The World Is Not Enough - Garbage
Woah, Kramzer, woah. This Paul McCartney aggression will not stand, man. Dude’s rock royalty. One of the greatest songwriters of all time. No hyperbole. What, do you not like the F-ing Beatles?! 😅 Come on man 🤦🏻♂️ Live and Let Die is so obviously the best Bond theme, doesn’t even need to be said really. It’s the best song on this list, Bond or no Bond, period.
I don't hate him by any means as a musician. But I think his solo work is massively overrated and I'm just sick of hearing about him.... Every single time we record a video. But don't worry, I'll have my day when we get to the 90s
@@ryankramzer1256 I'm patiently waiting to see how far Jason's Paul McCartney fandom and Joe's Stevie Wonder fandom extends, and whether "Ebony & Ivory" is on either of their 1982 lists. One can only dream.
@@ryankramzer1256 definitely understand, it being you feel that way, the amount of respect and coverage he gets would be annoying, but I’d say it’s pretty well earned. Without the Beatles, which by extension means McCartney, you wouldn’t have most of the artists regularly reviewed and ranked on this channel. So credit where credit is due. Yeah, he’s by no means infallible, and not all of his solo work is “successful,” per se. I do think some context is needed to more adequately appreciate it. When Paul went solo he decided to make music different than what he had popularized with the Beatles. To challenge himself, pushing boundaries, as opposed to relying on what had previously worked. Of course that’s going to result in a degree of failure. I get that some of it may be unfairly lauded simply because he was a Beatle, but what surprises me more are the aspects of his catalogue that are strangely underrated. Albums like “Chaos and Creation in the Backyard,” and “Ram,” which I’ve noticed has been having somewhat of a resurgence. His catalog is littered with the unarguable genius he’s always possessed, even if sided by less successful experiments. From what I’ve gathered, it was just a bit disappointing for Elvis Costello working with Paul, in that Elvis wanted to write songs like the classic Beatles, hence why he wanted to collaborate with McCartney in the first place, and Paul was more interested in trying something different, his motive for writing with Costello. Still I think their output falls into the “success,” and even “underrated” categories, with songs like “Veronica,” “So Like Candy,” “This One,” and “My Brave Face.” Less successful is probably his electronic work with the Firemen duo. But I’ll be damned if he wasn’t trying something 😅 When all’s said and done, If I haven’t persuaded you, we can agree to disagree, that’s the beauty of these discussions. Always appreciate hearing the opinions of others, no matter how wrong they are 😉 Keep up the good work 👍🏼
Man lets put the things in a fair mode! If Kramzer is tired of hearing of McCartney every time they make a video, im tired of his nonsense hate against McCartney, yes he is not the best where his fans put him but hes really great and not like Kramzer think so little of him! And about the bond song everybodys here knows how many lists i have from net and magazines that put Live and let die in first place on the best bond song category?? Many, many, many! Not a fanboy statement , a factual true!
If I remember, Louis Armstrong's song came just after James Bond had got married and his bride had been shot and killed as they drove away from the wedding, hence it was used for dramatic irony. If it were my list, I think I'd use the fact that, whilst it doesn't sound like a Bond opener it does have a function in relation to the plot, to bump it up higher as it's a great song and Louis Armstrong sounds great singing it...
@@hughcansdale4758 Oh - Well i already saw the movie a long time ago - that's how I spotted the irony - just thinkin about anyone else. :) Great point, though . .
This is quite fun! My number 1 was never in doubt and matches that of Joe and Kram but I have quickly cobbled together a top 10: 1. Nobody does it Better - Carly Simon 2. Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey 3. Skyfall - Adele 4. Diamonds are Forever - Shirley Bassey 5. Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney & Wings 6. You only Live Twice - Nancy Sinatra 7. The World is Not Enough - Garbage 8. We have all the Time in the World - Louis Armstrong 9. No Time to Die - Billy Eilish 10. From Russia with Love - Matt Monro Trivia corner - Nobody does it Better was the first theme to have a different title to the film itself. It will probably make my 1977 list but I expect that to be a strong year.
I don't consider "We Have All the Time in the World" a Bond theme, as it doesn't play over the opening titles like every other song on this list. Instead, John Barry's theme for "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is what plays over the opening titles and is an easy top 10, and Top 5 for many, instrumental or not. It kicks. It just sounds bad ass. Here's my top Ten: 1 - "You Only live Twice" - Nostalgic strings are beautiful, Nancy Sinatra's vocals work well, and the song was used brilliantly in Mad Men I might add. 2 - "You Know My Name" - the lyrics are fitting, "Arm yourself because no one else here will save you," and it propels Daniel Craig's Bond into a new era. 3 - "Goldfinger" - the film is awesome and this track set the standard for every song afterwards. And Bassey sung this at the Oscars a few years ago and still sounded amazing. 4 - "Nobody Does it Better" - Big sound that builds to a crescendo. 5 - "On Her Majesty's Secret Service theme" -- perhaps exceeds the original Bond theme. 6 - "Skyfall" -- Adele knocks it out of the park. 7 - "The World is Not Enough" - this tune grew on me over the years. 8 - "License to Kill" - sure it's over produced -- but it hits the right notes for me, and must have at least one from the underrated Welshman, Timothy Dalton. 9 - "The Man With the Golden Gun" - glorious 70's bubble gum guitars, plus it's my favorite Roger Moore Bond film. 10 - "From Russia With Love" - better than most of the other dreck, yes Madonna, Aha, Sam Smith, I'm talking to you. And Matt Monro also sung "Mary in the Morning".
The OHMSS theme is incredible! Glad you mentioned it. It actually may be better than the original Bond theme. I just didn't include it because I wanted to follow the Listography format.
Now you're talking my language 01. Skyfall - Adele 02. A View to a Kill - Duran Duran 03. Nobody Does it Better - Carly Simon 04. We Have All the Time in the World - Louis Armstrong 05. Nice surprise bonus, thanks guys. Have always loved the Bond franchise . Favourite ( and best Bond )is Craig , Connery just a whisker behind . Have a soft spot for the campiness , bad acting of the Roger Moore era . Weakest Bond was Brosnan . Dalton was underrated ( His 2 films high on my Bond film rankings) Only ranking top 5 and worst 5 Bond themes . Top 5 1. Gold finger : Shirley Bassey ( classic ) . 2. Live and Let Die: McCartney 3. View to a Kill : Duran Duran ( I’m with Joe. Song under appreciated by some film critics at the time . Consensus was song did not suit the franchise , but what do they know . To me great song ,contains the required drama “ Meeting you , with a View to Kill “ with the synths building tension , sounds “Bondy” enough to me . If you watch an edited trailer with clips from the film , with Walken and Grace Jones as the villains , this looks like the greatest 007 film of all time, when in fact it’s probably the worst . Song is still killer though .) 4. Nobody does it better : Carly Simon . ( Spy Who Loved Me) 5. For your eyes only : Sheena Easton ( love this schmaltzy late 70s early 80s , MOR tripe. Works for this film and for me😊) Worst Bond themes: 1. Octopussy : Rita Coolidge : All time high ( all time low in bond tunes) 2. Spectre: Sam Smith : whatever the song is called . Bad vocals . Rubbish. Hate it . Love the film though. 3. Tomorrow Never Dies: Sheryl Crow ( yawn 😴) 4. Quantum of Solace ( funniest bond title apart from octopussy ) : Jack White and Alicia Keys. Neither should’ve been allowed near a Bond franchise . 5. Die Another Day : Madonna ( if I can’t remember or hum an old “ Madge “ tune then it probably wasn’t very good )
Great episode. However, contrary to your usual forensic overlay, the excellent We Have All The Time In The World is not the theme song to OHMSS. That is, of course, the self-titled instrumental, latterly covered by The Propellerheads, which itself makes a fair claim the be the best ever 007 theme tune. Certainly OHMSS has the best overall soundtrack, as John Barry threw everything he had at it given the film had the first 'new' Bond actor. Incidentally, Moonraker was written in a weekend after the original song was rejected at the 11th hour, and, to be fair, it shows. Radiohead's Spectre does wipe the floor with the anemic noodle Sam Smith's song, though given how godawful that film was maybe it was all for the best. Also, Patti LaBelle's If You Asked Me To end credits song from Licence To Kill would have made a worthy theme.
Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, Casino Royale, A View to a Kill, For Your Eyes Only, The Spy Who Loved Me, We have all the time in the world - the secondary theme song from On her Majesty’s Service, Live and let Die.
You guys read my mind. I was thinking this would be a great topic for a page 3 video. Bonus content is even better. I don't recall all the songs, so here are my favorites: 1. Skyfall 2. Live and Let Die 3. The World is Not Enough 4. Nobody Does it Better 5. For Your Eyes Only 6. You Know My Name 7. Goldfinger 8. All Time High 9. A View to a Kill 10. Moonraker That's all I can recall. A few I haven't heard, but most of the rest were so long ago they no longer register. And Skyfall is a serious contender for S.O.T.Y. in 2012.
Hello Mark: Good list. Except for All Time High, we seem to like the same Bond songs (albeit in somewhat different order). Another difference is I had Diamonds are Forever ranked near the top. It's close to the perfect Bond song imo.
@@NaughtyVampireGod Hey NVG. Been a long time since I watched Diamonds are Forever. Don't remember the song, so I didn't rate it. I'm sure my rankings would be seriously shaken (not stirred) if I were to listen to the remaining songs and rate them all.
Wow, when worlds collide! Wasn't expecting this. Leaving my ranking here before watching. (And I will be ranking 26...) 1. You Only Live Twice- Nancy Sinatra 2. Diamonds Are Forever- Shirley Bassey 3. For Your Eyes Only- Sheena Easton 4. Live and Let Die- Wings 5. Skyfall- ADELE 6. The Living Daylights- a-ha 7. You Know My Name- Chris Cornell 8. Nobody Does It Better- Carly Simon 9. The Look of Love- Dusty Springfield [fantastic track from the 1960s Casino Royale- wonder what you guys think of Dusty Springfield in general, I think she's great] 10. The World Is Not Enough- Garbage 11. A View to a Kill- Duran Duran 12. Goldfinger- Shirley Bassey 13. License to Kill- Gladys Knight 14. From Russia with Love- Matt Monro 15. No Time to Die- Billie Eilish 16. Thunderball- Tom Jones 17. The Writing's on the Wall- Sam Smith 18. Die Another Day- Madonna 19. Tomorrow Never Dies- Sheryl Crow 20. We Have All the Time in the World- Louis Armstrong 21. Moonraker- Shirley Bassey. 22. Goldeneye- Tina Turner 23. The Man with the Golden Gun- Lulu (the Alice Cooper rejected song is my pick for favorite unofficial Bond song!) 24. Never Say Never Again- Lani Hall 25. Another Way to Die- Jack White & Alicia Keys 26. All Time High- Rita Coolidge The top 15 or so I would rate every song as excellent, and my order constantly switches around. I only have a negative opinion of the bottom 5 songs.
Post video follow up: I've seen so many Bond theme lists that pretty much all I look for now is that the list appropriately has "All Time High" at or near the bottom, so by my definition, you guys succeed wildly here. Wanted to clarify that Tina Turner has nothing to do with my lesser liking of "Goldeneye"- the production sounds very dated to me, and I don't like the chorus for some reason. I guess it's U2's fault. And finally, "Nobody Does It Better" is a great choice for #1. (It's also been my #1 many times). Maybe I put it a few spots too low. Great film it's in too (let's just say Ringo is a very lucky man).
"We Have All The Time In The World" wasn't actually a theme song, it was the love theme played part way through the movie, which is why it doesn't sound like a Bond them, it wasn't intended to be. The actual theme to 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' was actually an instrumental....
RIP Leslie Bricusse, who passed away Tuesday and wrote the theme songs to Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice. (Also: “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Nina Simone's “Feeling Good”...)
Very cool to see this extra weekend content coming in! Going to guess Live and Let Die at #1 for at least one or two of you, and Die Another Day from Madonna near the bottom.
Hey guys, a few facts about Matt Monro. He was indeed known as the "British Sinatra" and it turns out that Frank was a big fan of his. Also, he recorded for Parlophone and his regular producer was none other than George Martin. And as far as the Beatles obliterating his career, it was Matt Monro who had the biggest hit cover of McCartney's "Yesterday". And Tom Jones didn't ruin "Thunderball". It was just a weak attempt to recreate the sound of " Goldfinger".
Interesting choices. My ranking is most based on how well the song fits the Bond persona. Also, how good the singer is performing the song 1) Goldfinger 2) Live & Let Die - 3) Skyfall 4) Nobody Does It Better 5 You Only Live Twice 6) For Your Eyes Only 7) You Know My Name 8 A View to A Kill 9) World Is Not Enough 10) License To Kill 11) Goldeneye 12) Diamonds Are Forever 13) All the Time In the World 14) Living Daylights 15) Man With The Golden Gun 16) No Time to Die 17) Moonraker 18) Thunderball 19) From Russia With Love 20) All Time High 21) Writing’s On the Wall 22) Tomorrow Never Dies 23) Die Another Day 24) Quantum of Solace
I'm surprised you guys aren't familiar with Matt Munro. He sang "Born Free" for the movie. C'mon, everybody's heard Born Free. He also sang the title song for the original "Italian Job" movie, a song written and produced by Quincy Jones. PS. "We Have All the Time in the World" wasn't the actual title song, it was only featured within the movie.
I know almost nothing about Bond theme songs but I still really enjoyed this discussion. I do have a Shirley Bassey compilation from that haul a few months ago where someone gave me a bunch of their CD’s, and fortunately all 3 of her themes are on there.
Oh wait, I also have a Bond theme compilation from that same haul that I think covers all of them up to 2006, so I guess I’ll be listening to that soon. I guess Jaime is a fan. 😂

While George Lazenby is not a good Bond, 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' had some of the best cinematography, and arguably THE best overall score, and the best Bond girl with Diana Rigg. Just my opinion, of course.
I'd disagree on Lazenby not being a good Bond. Sure, he doesn't fit the mold created by Connery, but i liked his take. The problem is that he didn't had more movies to further develop his portrayal. And i agree on OHMSS being a great movie, one of my favorites.
@@rafaelandrade7627 Agreed. Lazenby was a diamond in the rough, but would've likely gotten better if he stayed on. He might've significantly improved "Diamonds Are Forever." And a lot of people have claimed that OHMSS might've been the best Bond movie if Connery had been in it.
@@ComeOnIsSuchAJoy Honestly, i don't know if Connery could have been able to pull off that ending. Not because he didn't had the acting chops, but because I don't think his Bond would be able to have that emotional vulnerability. But that's just guessing on my part
One of my favorite things about this channel (on FULL view today): Joe and Kramz' muggingly animated reactions to the other guys' picks while they are talking, but Jason is always all kinds of "nah, Im good"🤐

[ Too funny! I loved your guys' rankings'. My family loved it. ] This is a very interesting ranking of James Bond songs. Some of the themes are good but I think the movie creators went a little bit too formal or look for just a friendly radio hit. This makes the Bond themes so different. Our radio station in St. Louis had a huge debate on this subject last week. The host said that most of the themes were too boring for him. I disagree. Especially if you grew up with them. I recently discovered Rita Coolidge's theme from Octopussy (83). I thought it was really good lol! Also, another interesting thing to discover is Phyllis Hyman's original choice to sing the theme to Never Say Never again. The song went to Lani Hall. She's married to Herb Alpert. I love his work with the Jacksons( 1987). The movie creators talked about wanting to use Hyman's version on TV One Unsung. But they decided to avoid a dispute and went with the hall. Some of my favorite themes are For Your Eyes, Only-Sheena Easton. You only Live Twice-Nancy Sinatra. Die Another Day by Madonna was an interesting choice to pick during that time period. I thought this was very different, and it was one of the madonna songs that sounded innovative. Tomorrow Never Dies (Sheryl Crow), Moonraker( Shirley Bassey), and the World is Not Enough (Garbage/ they should be given more for their 90s output) are some good themes. This was a great discussion. Thanks, guys!
1) Goldfinger 2) You Only Live Twice 3) Live And Let Die 4) Diamonds Are Forever (The Arctic Monkeys covered that and not too bad) 5) A View To A Kill 6) From Russia With Love (of course it's old school, it's from 1963) 7) Thunderball 8) Licence To Kill 9) The World Is Not Enough 10) We Have All The Time In The World 11) For Your Eyes Only 12) No Time To Die 13) The Man With The Golden Gun 14) Skyfall 15) Moonraker.
Loved the video. Two points: 1. The Louis Armstrong song isn't the theme for OHMSS. It was a self-titled instrumental by John Barry (and great). Armstrong's song was the "love theme" not the main title song. 2. You should check out Alice Cooper's theme for The Man With The Golden Gun. They apparently submitted it one day too late (even though the producers liked it). It blows Lulu's song out of the water. It was on his album Muscle Of Love.
And - as someone noted - for On Her Majesty's Secret Service the opening theme was an instrumental - the Boys are going with the generally accepted list of Bond themes
A lot of pop acts integrated Bond music into their singles, like Robbie Williams' UK charttopper "Millennium" ("You Only Live Twice") and Jay-Z's "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" ("Diamonds Are Forever")
Best Bond: Sean Connery Favorite movie: Goldfinger Top five Bond songs: 1 Thunderball 2 Goldfinger 3 Live and Let Die 4 You Only Live Twice 5 Diamonds Are Forever
1. Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey, 2. You Know My Name - Chris Cornell, 3. Live and Let Die - McCartney/Wings, 4. Nobody Does It Better - Carly Simon, 5. Diamonds Are Forever - Shirley Bassey
Don't get the hate for All Time High, love that one. You Only Live Twice, Live And Let Live, Goldfinger, Nobody Does It Better & All Time High are my top 5. Every Bond theme that John Barry was involved in is wonderful. When he stopped co-writing them the quality dropped like a stone. Surprised Kram never mentioned the great Spectre by Radiohead that was rejected in favour of Sam Smith. Madness!
JASON NAILS IT. "Live and Let Die" is the perfect Bond song. Also in the Top 5... "Goldfinger" by Shirley Bassey, "You Only Live Twice" by Nancy Sinatra. You can fight over the rest... but those three are LOCKS. Who SHOULD do the next Bond theme: ELBOW. Guy Garvey would KILL IT.
My top 5 are: 5. Nobody Does It Better 4. You Only Live Twice 3. Skyfall 2. Live and Let Die 1. Goldfinger ...which is exactly the top 5 in your averaged list. Best Bond is easy: Connery
How on earth Amy Winehouse wasn’t asked to make a Bond theme is beyond me 😖 Fave Bond - Roger Moore (for his tongue in cheek-ness!) Fave Bond movie - Live and Let Die Worst Bond theme - Madonna for sure! Best - Live and Let Die Cheers guys! 🇬🇧🇺🇸
@@lubilou64 As i figured - it's all about career trajectory timing, folks - Amy was considered for Quantum of Solace (the only possible film in her career/life window) and wiki says she actually recorded a demo but she couldn't complete it for whatever reason
@@NaughtyVampireGod That's interesting to know. Yes, I think Casino Royale came too early for her to be considered while she had died before Skyfall was released.
@@trickygoose2 Exactly - Amy had an album out prior to the Casino Royale film; however she didn't really break internationally until 2006 - the same year the movie was released. So, i'd say the timing wasn't quite right. And, of course, she died the year before Skyfall. It's marketing - - the franchise wants to catch the recording artist at their peak, ideally.
Nobody Does It Better is my #1, that song is my fucking jam lol I also love Radiohead's unused Spectre theme and The Look of Love from Casino Royale 67. I went on a date to the movies last weekend and my date talked me into watching an awful Icelandic movie called Lamb, I really would have rather watched James Bond lmao
I have a soft-spot for all of the John Barry co-written themes, especially the Shirley Bassey themes. He had a beautiful, lush string sound that can be heard especially in the Moonraker score and song. A sound that he perfected later with Out of Africa. It really helps elevate the Moonraker movie.
Some interesting takes on the Bond Theme songs . Here's my top 10 ranking in order of preference : Goldfinger : Shirley Bassey. ( the prototype for Bond theme songs ) Carly Simon : Nobody Does it Better Paul McCartney & Wings : Live &. Let Die Tina Turner : Goldeneye ( nobody's voice exudes sexuality , danger , or action , better than Tina's ) Sheena Easton : For Your Eyes Only. ( a great performance for a very good Bond film ) Garbage : The World is Not Enough Nancy Sinatra : You Only Live Twice Adele : Skyfall Shirley Bassey : Diamonds are Forever Another Way to Die : Jack White & Alicia Keys. ( an odd pairing to be sure , but somehow this works for me ) Notes : I love Louis Armstrong , but We Have All the Time doesn't fit the Bond mould for me . To be fair to Billy Eilish , I haven't had enough time with that song yet .
Nobody Does it Better has always been my favorite James Bond song closely followed by Live or Let Die. I really like Tomorrow Never Dies. The orchestra is great. Billie Eilish will always be last to me.
Can I jut post a separate comment re Tom Jones, "The Voice"? This is one of the great singers from the 60's, appreciate his campiness, on top of excellent singing. And yes, that type of persona is out of sync with today's world. But he has never shied from challenges, and change. Look at him in 60's with CSN&Y; then embracing Punk; 'Kiss' by Prince. The way he changed with trends was not a desperate manager's move "let's do what those crazy kids are listening to" kind of deal. His late career albums, maybe the last 4 are probably his best.
Would love to hear which artists you guys think should (or could) have been asked to sing a james bond theme song 😄 For me, as a starter short list: Kate Bush, Abba, Queen, Carpenters, Bob Marley.
Yeah that is sad. I wish they could include at least two songs in each bond flick - the way they did in the Living Daylights with the Aha main title track and the Pretenders (much better) number to close out the film with.
I sort of agree with Jason on "Skyfall." It's an optimal Bond song, but that's sort of the problem: it feels like a bunch of people got together in a lab and crafted the "perfect" theme with mathematical precision. It just doesn't feel very organic to me.
Joe is James, Kram is the villain, and Jason is the love interest.
Good one
LOL!
awesome - but Kram needs a cat; Joe needs a shave, and Jason . . .

Agreed with Joe the most. Surprised Kram didn’t mention the Radiohead song they pitched for Spectre.
Also surprised no one mentioned that Goldeneye was written by Edge and Bono.
1 the spy who loved me - Carly Simon

@@TastesLikeMusic ah thanks. I really really hated that madonna song. I didn't expect it to be last. the Billy Eilish one is middle of the road and certainly not bad.
Kate Bush was initially considered to sing "Moonraker." It would've been interesting to hear her take on the song.
She to amazing for it
Not entirely true.
I agree on that, though Joe still has the best top 10. At least without the hangups over Duran Duran and Carly Simon that the others have.
@@starry2006 I usually find myself agreeing with Joe the least, but he just about nailed this list.
William C, I'm surprised they don't have a compilation album of James Bond themes called''For Your Ears Only'!
"Nobody Does It Better" is clearly the best Bond song imo and the only Bond song I enjoy outside of its Bond context. Marvin Hamlisch was a musical genius.
@@ursula3438 "Nobody Does It Better" is great, but how could you not also enjoy hearing "Live and Let Die"?
Great idea for an episode. Loved it.
There was another unofficial bond film, never say never again, and it had a terrible theme song.
bevis: hehehe he said bone girl

3. Live and let die
4. Thunderball
5. The world is not enough
6. Nobody does it better

Stray Thoughts
-Madonna's song is by far the worst.
I'm totally okay with this list. I don't know what Kram's smoking to hate on "Live and Let Die"... BRILLIANT song.
Great Episode!!!!!!!!!....I'm going with Carly on this one, Shirley, Adele, and Duran Duran follow. Billie Eyelash🤣🤣
Hey Sherry.
Agree that Nobody does it better is the best song. And I love the voice of Carly Simon.
Yup.
Nice smooth jazz outro
I think Timothy Dalton was underrated as James Bond. Those two movies were kind of the pre-Daniel Craig attempt to make the Bond franchise more serious and gritty, but I don't think audiences were quite ready for it, so they brought in Pierce Brosnan to bring back the overly hammy Roger Moore style Bond.
Favorite Bond song would either be "Live and Let Die" or "Nobody Does it Better".
Yeah Timothy seems to have been trashed some and I liked him. Daniel Craig is the best imo.
Yeah, Dalton laid the groundwork for a lot of what Craig did. You'd think that License to Kill (the series' attempt at a late-80s action flick) would have aged horribly, but it still really holds up.
It's true, in retrospect Dalton was an excellent Bond. I actually like him more than Craig, wish he did more than two films.
1. Daniel Craig: Favorite Film - Skyfall Runner-Up - Casino Royale
2. Sean Connery: Favorite Film - Thunderball Runner-Up - Goldfinger
3. Pierce Brosnan: Favorite Film - Golden Eye Runner-Up - The World Is Not Enough
4. Roger Moore: Favorite Film - Octopussy Runner-Up - A View To A Kill
5. Timothy Dalton: Favorite Film - The Living Daylights Runner-up - License To Kill
6. George Lazenby: Only made one but it's decent
Favorite Theme Songs: Number one and twenty-four were incredibly easy. Two thru ten were the most memorable. Eleven thru twenty-three are in the order of least offensive, as I remember them.
1. Skyfall - Adelle
2. Tom Jones - Thunderball
3. Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey
4. Duran Duran - A View To A Kill
5. Carly Simon - The Spy Who Loved Me

@@edgustafson Joe's also a Michael Jackson fan, I think. So that's going to make both 1982 and 1983 interesting.
Dude this awesome as hell

10. From Russia with Love - Matt Monro
Trivia corner - Nobody does it Better was the first theme to have a different title to the film itself.
Here's my top Ten:
1 - "You Only live Twice" - Nostalgic strings are beautiful, Nancy Sinatra's vocals work well, and the song was used brilliantly in Mad Men I might add.

2. Spectre: Sam Smith : whatever the song is called . Bad vocals . Rubbish. Hate it . Love the film though.
3. Tomorrow Never Dies: Sheryl Crow ( yawn 😴)
4. Quantum of Solace ( funniest bond title apart from octopussy ) : Jack White and Alicia Keys. Neither should’ve been allowed near a Bond franchise .
5. Die Another Day : Madonna ( if I can’t remember or hum an old “ Madge “ tune then it probably wasn’t very good )
So Madonna was only 5th worse? Her song is unlistenable to me. And Duran Duran have some really good pop songs. View to a Kill is not one them.
@@adamshelby975 fair enough . I don’t agree of course 😊
my top 3
1. Live and Let Die / Skyfall (cant decide)
2. No Time to Die
3. Diamonds are forever
My Top 5:
5. "Diamonds Are Forever"
4. "Live & Let Die"
3. "Moonraker"
2. "Nobody Does It Better"
1. "You Only Live Twice"
Live and Let Die was the best. It fit the movie so well too.
I hope Jason keeps talking about Paul McCartney, the second best Beatle after George.
Can’t stop, won’t stop. -Jason
Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever, Casino Royale, A View to a Kill, For Your Eyes Only, The Spy Who Loved Me, We have all the time in the world - the secondary theme song from On her Majesty’s Service, Live and let Die.
Cool extra content. I'm going to check out the songs. Quite familiar with half of them but I don't remember the other ones
Hi Fran. Check out my list (just posted) if you get a chance.
You guys read my mind. I was thinking this would be a great topic for a page 3 video. Bonus content is even better.
I don't recall all the songs, so here are my favorites:
1. Skyfall
2. Live and Let Die
3. The World is Not Enough
4. Nobody Does it Better
5. For Your Eyes Only
6. You Know My Name
7. Goldfinger
8. All Time High
9. A View to a Kill
10. Moonraker
That's all I can recall.
Yeah I'd say the Cornell track really does match the films feel well.....agreed Joe
Wow, when worlds collide! Wasn't expecting this. Leaving my ranking here before watching. (And I will be ranking 26...)
1. You Only Live Twice- Nancy Sinatra
2. Diamonds Are Forever- Shirley Bassey
3. For Your Eyes Only- Sheena Easton
4. Live and Let Die- Wings
5. Skyfall- ADELE
6. The Living Daylights- a-ha
7. You Know My Name- Chris Cornell
8. Nobody Does It Better- Carly Simon
9. The Look of Love- Dusty Springfield [fantastic track from the 1960s Casino Royale- wonder what you guys think of Dusty Springfield in general, I think she's great]
10. The World Is Not Enough- Garbage
11. A View to a Kill- Duran Duran
12. Goldfinger- Shirley Bassey
13. License to Kill- Gladys Knight
14. From Russia with Love- Matt Monro
15. No Time to Die- Billie Eilish
16. Thunderball- Tom Jones
17. The Writing's on the Wall- Sam Smith
18. Die Another Day- Madonna
19. Tomorrow Never Dies- Sheryl Crow
20. We Have All the Time in the World- Louis Armstrong
21. Moonraker- Shirley Bassey.
22. Goldeneye- Tina Turner
23. The Man with the Golden Gun- Lulu (the Alice Cooper rejected song is my pick for favorite unofficial Bond song!)
24. Never Say Never Again- Lani Hall
25. Another Way to Die- Jack White & Alicia Keys
26. All Time High- Rita Coolidge
The top 15 or so I would rate every song as excellent, and my order constantly switches around.
Was not mentioned but I think John Barry's big Moog on "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" has to be one of my favs...
My favourite is the James Bond Theme by the Ventures. Very good idea for a list!
Ana de Armas is incredibly beautiful
"We Have All The Time In The World" wasn't actually a theme song, it was the love theme played part way through the movie, which is why it doesn't sound like a Bond them, it wasn't intended to be. The actual theme to 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' was actually an instrumental....
This never happened to the other fellow.
11:15 I Haven't Got Time for the Pain that Jason is causing me right now.
RIP Leslie Bricusse, who passed away Tuesday and wrote the theme songs to Goldfinger and You Only Live Twice. (Also: “Pure Imagination” from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Nina Simone's “Feeling Good”...)
1. Goldeneye
2. Goldfinger
3. Skyfall
4. Diamonds Are Forever
5. Nobody Does It Better
Also, how good the singer is performing the song
1) Goldfinger
2) Live & Let Die -
3) Skyfall
4) Nobody Does It Better
5 You Only Live Twice
6) For Your Eyes Only
7) You Know My Name
8 A View to A Kill
9) World Is Not Enough
10) License To Kill
11) Goldeneye
12) Diamonds Are Forever
13) All the Time In the World
14) Living Daylights
15) Man With The Golden Gun
16) No Time to Die
17) Moonraker
18) Thunderball
19) From Russia With Love
20) All Time High
21) Writing’s On the Wall
22) Tomorrow Never Dies
23) Die Another Day
24) Quantum of Solace

Top 5:
1. Nobody Does It Better
2. Live and Let Die
3. A View To A Kill
4. You Only Live Twice
5. Skyfall
Best Bond: Moore
He might've significantly improved "Diamonds Are Forever."
And a lot of people have claimed that OHMSS might've been the best Bond movie if Connery had been in it.
@@ComeOnIsSuchAJoy Connery would have been a tough fit for OHMSS, because it's such a different Bond here. Connery hanging up his PPK for a woman?
@@ComeOnIsSuchAJoy Honestly, i don't know if Connery could have been able to pull off that ending. Not because he didn't had the acting chops, but because I don't think his Bond would be able to have that emotional vulnerability. But that's just guessing on my part
One of my favorite things about this channel (on FULL view today): Joe and Kramz' muggingly animated reactions to the other guys' picks while they are talking, but Jason is always all kinds of "nah, Im good"🤐
If looks could kill 29:20. Number one Jason reaction to Kramzer's bullying
Goldfinger all the way. The brassy intro alone takes it to the top for me. It's unforgettable.. I love that trumpet snarl.
Not sure where some of the songs have gone, like K.D. Lang's "Surrender" from "Tomorrow Never Dies" or the actual theme song.
But my list:
The original James Bond theme
Live and let die
You only live twice
We have all the time in the world
Skyfall
Goldfinger
Nobody does it better
Surrender (K.D. Lang)
Diamonds are forever
The World is not enough
You know my name
Thunderball
Moonraker
For your eyes only
The man with the golden gun
All time high
Licence to kill
From Russia with Love
Goldeneye
Moby's James Bond Theme
Writings on the wall
Tomorrow never dies
A View to a kill
The Living Daylights
Die another day
[ Too funny! I loved your guys' rankings'. My family loved it. ]
This is a very interesting ranking of James Bond songs.
21:26 jason keeps us guessing every time...lol the looks on kram & joe's faces...
Loved the video. Two points:
Come on, guys. If half of the themes doesn't sound enough like a real Bond theme, your definition of a Bond theme might be wrong.
Like i said, (except for the first two flms) the Bond theme is whatever is played during the opening credits.
And - as someone noted - for On Her Majesty's Secret Service the opening theme was an instrumental - the Boys are going with the generally accepted list of Bond themes
29:01 kram is OUT, jason is killin' it in this episode
Never Say Never Again wasn't an offical one either.
I love the John Barry / James Bond influences in some of my favorite bands: Tindersticks and Portishead
Always thought Portishead (or any of those '90s trip hop groups) would've been a cool choice for a Bond theme.
A lot of pop acts integrated Bond music into their singles, like Robbie Williams' UK charttopper "Millennium" ("You Only Live Twice") and Jay-Z's "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" ("Diamonds Are Forever")
Yeah, that seems an interesting match
My favorite Bond- Moore
Movie- For Your Eyes Only
Song- A View to A Kill.
Best Bond: Sean Connery
Favorite movie: Goldfinger
Top five Bond songs:
1 Thunderball
2 Goldfinger
3 Live and Let Die
4 You Only Live Twice
5 Diamonds Are Forever
1. Goldfinger - Shirley Bassey, 2. You Know My Name - Chris Cornell, 3. Live and Let Die - McCartney/Wings, 4. Nobody Does It Better - Carly Simon, 5. Diamonds Are Forever - Shirley Bassey
A view to kill is in my top 5
Don't get the hate for All Time High, love that one. You Only Live Twice, Live And Let Live, Goldfinger, Nobody Does It Better & All Time High are my top 5. Every Bond theme that John Barry was involved in is wonderful. When he stopped co-writing them the quality dropped like a stone. Surprised Kram never mentioned the great Spectre by Radiohead that was rejected in favour of Sam Smith. Madness!
Best movie AND theme- Live and Let Die. Period.
👏👏👏👏👏 well done Joe Duran Duran love is well deserved. I take it back. I know an American who likes it now☺️
My top 5 are:
5. Nobody Does It Better
4. You Only Live Twice
3. Skyfall
2. Live and Let Die
1. Goldfinger
...which is exactly the top 5 in your averaged list. Best Bond is easy: Connery
How on earth Amy Winehouse wasn’t asked to make a Bond theme is beyond me 😖
Fave Bond - Roger Moore (for his tongue in cheek-ness!)
Fave Bond movie - Live and Let Die
Worst Bond theme - Madonna for sure!
Best - Live and Let Die
Cheers guys! 🇬🇧🇺🇸
An Amy Winehouse Bond theme would have been fascinating.
@@trickygoose2 She had such a Bond theme voice! Perhaps she was asked but declined.
When jason says he wants to do sherl crow nd kram face is priceless
Can you do a ranking of rejected James Bond songs.
Here's my top 10 ranking in order of preference :
Goldfinger : Shirley Bassey. ( the prototype for Bond theme songs )
Carly Simon : Nobody Does it Better
Paul McCartney & Wings : Live &. Let Die
Tina Turner : Goldeneye ( nobody's voice exudes sexuality , danger , or action , better than Tina's )
Sheena Easton : For Your Eyes Only. ( a great performance for a very good Bond film )
Garbage : The World is Not Enough
Nancy Sinatra : You Only Live Twice
Adele : Skyfall
Shirley Bassey : Diamonds are Forever
Another Way to Die : Jack White & Alicia Keys. ( an odd pairing to be sure , but somehow this works for me )
Notes : I love Louis Armstrong , but We Have All the Time doesn't fit the Bond mould for me .
To be fair to Billy Eilish , I haven't had enough time with that song yet .
Can we have a Three Dog Night diss in every video please! 😉
Jason at number one…. Mic drop……. 1 Live and Let Die, 2 You Only Live Twice, 3 Goldfinger…and then all the rest
Would love to hear which artists you guys think should (or could) have been asked to sing a james bond theme song 😄
For me, as a starter short list: Kate Bush, Abba, Queen, Carpenters, Bob Marley.
Richard Hawley would be the ultimate. Sadly, not a big enough name. -Jason
Yeah that is sad. I wish they could include at least two songs in each bond flick - the way they did in the Living Daylights with the Aha main title track and the Pretenders (much better) number to close out the film with.
Portishead
Fun little detour, relatable to every still-living generation... good one guys.
not the biggest Sheryl fan but Tomorrow Never Dies is one of my favorites without a doubt. don't know where the other 2 are coming from
I sort of agree with Jason on "Skyfall." It's an optimal Bond song, but that's sort of the problem: it feels like a bunch of people got together in a lab and crafted the "perfect" theme with mathematical precision. It just doesn't feel very organic to me.
Just an idea: what about a Halloween special?
Spookiest songs/albums . . . That would be fun.
We kinda have one in the works - kram
I'm with Joe and Kram. My favorite Bond song is Nobody Does It Better. However, Live And Let Die would definitely be in my Top 3
Kramzer's Paul McCartney blasphemy will not stand! It will not stand!!
What's with his sudden beef with Sir Paul? 🤔
Seriously. Over the line. Not cool 😅
It's also getting a little tiresome. I mean Cat Stevens anybody? How about Cat Steven's doing a Bond song. Wouldn't that be great?
@@Gardosunron Cat Stevens is great. But not a Bond singer.
