Hello everyone! I wanted to expand upon our 2021 video entitled "The Rattan Trend in 2021 | 5 Ways to Decorate your Home with Natural Materials". That was actually the second video on our channel and seeing as rattan is one of my all-time favourite materials, today's video shares how to incorporate this timeless material in a variety of design styles! Let me know if you have any rattan items in your home in the comments below :) xx
I'm also very much a fan of rattan -- we were so fortunate to inherit decades-old rattan furniture from my husband's 150 year old family cottage. The pieces are in wonderful condition, despite having faded in the sun ( were only used indoors ) and the arms are worn smooth with decades of caresses by many resting hands. Some family members think we should paint them but the historied patina makes my heart sing! xoxo from Canada
I just want you to know how much I appreciate you holding the shot long enough to really see all the elements you are showing in a photo. Most people flash up a photo and then move on to the next before one has had time to absorb what is in the photo. I’m in the process of building a home in British Colonial style and you are an invaluable resource. Thank you.
I agree ! I find myself melting into the beautiful shots Suzy portrays. Although I still hit pause - alot - when I really want to absorb an especially dreamy photo!☺
Hello! It is very valuable getting this feedback as sometimes it is hard to know the ideal length of time to show the photo for! Great to hear that the current length is helpful :) I am so glad you found the video inspiring for your new home xx
Greetings from Santa Fe New Mexico! I have a charming rattan rocking chair of wicker that once was my maternal Grandfathers. For many years it resided on a wraparound porch of his Victorian Queen Anne home in my home state of Missouri. I rocked in that chair for many a summer day during my childhood. The chair was painted a glorious green color; my Mother had it repainted an oyster white and had the cushion recovered in a blue textile. Today, it resides at our family farm ranch house in Missouri, which I am in the process of renovating. Thank you for all your lovely Vlog posts!
Hello Kimberly, what a beautiful example of the meaning and story behind certain pieces in our life! I am sure you have many wonderful memories of that chair and sounds like it will be just as at home in your new place. Thank you! x
Rattan, Cane and Wicker are all, timeless. They provide a statement, of warmth and wealth, through my eyes! The chair and loveseat I was speaking of are quite similar in style at 3:24. Although antiques, they've held up quite nicely! A fortune gift to receive. ❤️
Dear Gina, thank you for your lovely comment. I definitely agree, they are timeless, stylish and highly durable! I believe the compliment almost every design style :) Have a beautiful week ahead xx
I have a couple of pieces, and little storage baskets, but you've got me appreciating rattan and cane accents in a whole new way. It does really anchor a space with a more earthy and relaxed feel, whilst being classy and timeless. I think glassware and shiny metallic accessories look so great with rattan, coupled with plants and greenery; that high end, Barbados-Bahamas resort look. It can also provide a bohemian style, reminiscent of the 70s, especially those big high-back, Papasan chairs. Another stunning video!
So glad the video increased your appreciation for rattan! It is definitely one of my most loved materials ever. You make a great point at how versatile it really is, both in use and design style xx
Susie, thank you, for all your easy to listen to, styling tips, your voice is very calming. Cane just happens to be, my favourite way of decorating each room. Beautiful video. Have a great day.
As I’ve recently moved from New England to South Carolina’s Low-country, your video on rattan was most appreciated! I’ve begun to embrace the romance of British West Indies style and I gleaned many ideas from you. I’m happy to say I’m a subscriber that is continually inspired!
Hello Mary Beth Smith! I just read in someone else's comment that rattan is very popular in the South so I am glad you found the video helpful. I so appreciate that you are a subscriber. Have a great week x
Thank you, Suzie. I really enjoyed watching this. I love rattan. We recently bought a rattan outdoor setting for our patio and it's an amazing transformation.
I have collected and inherited several ratan pieces. Chairs, tables large baskets, jugs, that's and other functional items. It has always been a material we love in the South. This was so interesting and I really enjoyed it.
I have a lot of rattan pieces from thrifting. My husband was trying to convince me to get read of them. I said no, they will be back on trend 😄 now with this video has given me more ideas to style my home with the items I already have without spending much. Thanks
They are definitely a *timeless* trend that suits a variety of different design styles and can be jazzed up with a gorgeous throw blanket or cushion! xx

Hello Robin! So glad that the video helped you to fall in love with your existing pieces and hopefully you get the opportunity to re-envision their beauty alongside other complementary pieces xx
❤STUNNING❤ I took your style quiz a short time ago - I lean Brit Colonial Islander - and this perfectly timed video solidifies why I don’t follow trends. I like Hamptons-style as well but you had answered me that they compliment/overlap easily. Having lost my hubby & Mom in the past 6 weeks, this calm & beautiful Film grounded me today, & I’ll come back to it again & again. Hoping to keep some of Mom’s white wicker patio chaises and blond rattan n cane bedroom suite! Your Fan Fr Florida 🌴

Dear Suzie, I couldn't agree more with all the positive comments of fellow watchers of your inspiring channel. I just wanted to let you know that in one of your shots (20:18) a book caught my eye - Travel Home: Design with a global spirit by Caitlin Flemming and Julie Goebel. I ordered the book by just following my gut and ... what a book! The authors did an exceptional job. One of my absolute favourites among my collection of design books. Inspiration comes in many disguises. Thank you again Suzie, you never fail to enthuse.
Dear Trudie, thank you for your wonderful comment and what a joy to hear that you spotted that book! I also loved going through it and I have to admit when sourcing books for our stores it’s hard not to just pick ones that appeal to my design style! Would love to know any others you recommend? X
@@suzieandersonhome Dear Suzie, thank you for your response ❤️ Books high on my list which I think everybody would like: The TASCHEN series 'Living in ....' They're choc-a-bloc with beautiful photos and descriptions. Favourites are Morocco, Greece, Bali and Japan. TASCHEN is a European publisher but the books are available internationally. Apart from the 'Living in'-series they have several other interior design books as well. I can recommend '100 Interiors Around the World' and 'Interiors Now'. Then of course, any book by Axel Vervoordt. The star among them 'Wabi Inspirations'. Have fun curating!
Hello Aloha Mom! Do you live in Hawaii? That would be a fabulous environment to incorporate rattan as it is able to expand and accommodate to the change in warmth and humidity :) Plus it makes for a fabulous island style interior xx
@@suzieandersonhome Aloha and thanks for the question! I lived in Hawaii for many years before moving to the Pacific Northwest; big change, both weather-wise as well as culturally! Hello Arthur, great to read that this was one of your favourite videos as it is definitely one of my favourite materials! Rattan sounds like the ideal addition to your monochromatic colour palette x
This for was the loveliest video I have ever watched. I love rattan. I have 3 cane arm chairs in my balcony and a small settee with twa armchairs with cane seating in the living room. I wish I had more. Loved the old walnut round table with rattan chairs. I have an old walnut table with brass claws on castors. It belonged to my great grandmother, and I need chairs for it. The diameter is 54 inches, how many rattan chairs should I place around it. The table fits 6 comfortablely and 8 a bit snug.
Hello Lydia! Thank you so much :D I am so glad to read that you love rattan as much as I do. I also have rattan throughout my home and it is such a wonderful addition. Unfortunately I can't tell you exactly how many chairs would fit around it. It really depends how much space you think is appropriate per guest so everyone is comfortable xx
Ahh I can see if you live in a particularly dust-prone environment or the lighting fixtures are hard to reach that is definitely something to be mindful of :) xx
Thank you! Rattan is big part of my decor, furniture as this reminds me of my heritage. Can you do a video regarding decorating using cane/caning? Your voice is soothing btw. 😊
Hello Irish B! I would say similar principles apply with cane and caning, as cane is the thinner material that results from the process of stripping the rattan plant. This allows for the smaller weave and design. Thank you for the compliment! xx
Thank you for blessing us with your beautiful art! I started watching your videos the other day. I love this one. I've been searching for a rattan tray and was wondering, which shop would you recommend? I live in England by the way.
Hello :) You are so welcome. It is lovely to receive the feedback. I am not too sure about rattan suppliers in England. As a retailer, we stock a lot of rattan but I understand it can be tricky with the shipping! I would look for rattan from Myanmar and pay particular attention to the finish xx
