back when I was playing Magic The Gathering on a regular basis, we used to call the overpowered new cards "Yu-Gi-Oh! cards." This ship feels like the Yu-Gi-Oh! card of Elite Dangerous. That doesn't stop me from having 2 of them. But seems a bit overpowered compared to the older ships. Understandable, given that the old designs are mostly hundreds of years old at this point, but still feels like a bit much. Another great video! o7
From how I understood about what Frontier said about the new generation of ships, it's that they are purposefully better than the old generation and that one should see it as some form of "passing the torch". That pretty much also entails that we will over the next few years get a LOT of new ships of all sizes.
It's definitely become my go-to ship in the game. I have a stealth combat build, a core miner, a trade ship, and an explorer, all kitted out. I'll likely also make a few other dedicated combat builds...I feel bad, as it's the only ship I've been using lately, but it's just such a solid all-rounder, I don't see the point in flying anything else...
Love this ship. Mk V is what my Mk IV should've been. Mk IV is slow and ponderous although it does have the extra cargo slot and better weapons convergence. My Mk V fights like a giant Sidewinder, in fact I was killing Sidewinders with shards at close range. The 'winders just can't manoeuvre clear of it. Also, in VR the view above the pilots head is lovely with the glass going all the way back to the cockpit door.
Great review, I was also a bit disappointed to see how well the new Cobra handles “everything”, but I will say it has rekindled my joy in flying small ships. The maneuverability is hard to beat when you’re used to the sluggish medium and large ships
Love the Cobra V! its a beast!! totally agree that its slightly over powered even. lateral thrusters are insane and if you can fly it like its a hot potatoe its very hard to hit! optional space like in the C5 is only possible because there is a small flerb reactor field that fits the size 5 into another dimension. so deffo no problem there. Small weapon slots on top make me kinda sad, but i will get used to it. Mines and concord cannons go very well with it!
its completely replaced all the small ships i used to fly, the only downside to the Mk5 is the courier still has a better cockpit, but that doesn't outweigh every other advantage it has.
It looks like a Viper design TBF. Was probably supposed to be a medium, but someone in SLT thought 'cool model.. shrink it, put more module space inside call it the Cobra 5'. Would explain why the scale of the door is smaller than all of the other ships of 2024.
We're still lacking in any new "large" ships, so I'm hoping this year - especially with colonization, since that'll no doubt need an absolute truckload of items being moved into a new system to allow a build to happen.
I’d reckon if they do end up dropping the viper mk5, either it has the same hardpoints as the Cobra mk5, or it has 3x small and 3x medium hardpoints, and (hopefully) more maneuverable than the viper mk4 or maybe even the mk3
I can't get on with the Cobra Mk III and don't understand its proponents. I do like the Imperial Courier for planet hopping. I have built my Mandalay in Coriolis ready for the end of this month and I will give the Cobra Mk V a spine when that drops for pauper players like myself. o7

Volume to module slots ratio does *not* make any sense vs the Mamba. This thing is tiny.
