Me after a week doing Duolingo
HAHAHAHAHAH
Duolingo is great. I can say stuff en español now. My name and stuff
Hahaha same here. I am currently learning Spanish in duolingo.
Spot on amigo
Me too
I bet that class writes most of Hollywood's Spanish scenes.
I'm mexican and this sketch make me laugh so much!.
That's funny but probably true. In most movies and tv series when involves a Mexican/Spanish character, they hardly ever hire a real Mexican actor, it's always a latino who grew up in USA and can't even speak Spanish right.
Lol , yup 😅😅🤣
@Wilson Yep Wilson Hanks, La Biblioteca is perfect for crimes...
Dead
As a language teacher I really appreciate how the camera zoomed in on the water, hamburger and pineapple right after he said those words and then how he brought up the flashcards to help understanding. Well done.
The crazy thing is that even though this makes fun of Spanish class, it in itself is a fantastic language lesson 😁 Follows Krashen's Comprehensible Input theory to the T!
@@ZeroGDucksYes! Totally agree
@@ZeroGDucks 100% agree. I could speak "okayish" spanish when I was very young since I had a friend whose parents from Chile could only speak Spanish and taught me some. And this lesson brought back some words through my thick head.
When he asked to go to the bathroom and they said "en español" I was laughing because that's what teachers do to us in reverse in English class.
It's also a really underrated joke that he just said "no". Teachers do that too.
@@bemusedbandersnatch2069 Shouldn't the bad cop have been the one to tell him no? Those fictitious 4th graders missed an opportunity for characterization in the dialog.
Meanwhile, the piss starts leaking out ...
Really? That's hilarious. In my French class, we had the same thing in America. "Can I go to the bathroom?!" "Ah, ah, ah! En Francais!"
Yep! Same with French class lol.

Ni de coña.
Hahahaha damn right, brother 😂 😂
I love how you can clearly see what the assignment was:
- use 3 location words (supermercado, biblioteca, aeropuerto)
- use 3 food or drinks (water, hamburger, pineapple)
- use 4 conjugations (yo soy su amigo, tu eres mi amigo, etc)
- use the time (where the boss comes in and randomly asks for the time)
- use an interjection (que lastima!)
What's funny is in Spanish text books there's always a Miguel asking where is the library.
Yeah Miguel is always lost somehow 😂
As a mexican i find this highly...educative.
The lack of tehuacanazos and toques made me suspicious, not gonna lie.

After 720 straight days on Duolingo, I understood the entire sketch! Gracias Duolingo!
This is a genius method to teach a language, I understood everything. They should try this out!
If my language teacher looked more like Rosario Dawson, i'd certainly learn more :P
This follows pretty much a language acquisition method called comprehensible input
. You don't really need to understand the words as long as you can follow the idea. Over time you'll just start to understand the words and grammar. It's learning like a child. Adults can do it too.
So did I surprisingly
My French teacher implemented this in his methodologies and we were at advanced level within a year, year and half.
I"m Ukrainian and, having watched this skit, I'm adding Elementary level Spanish to my CV
Maybe you should add "mediano" Spanish to your CV

Yes it is ... latino here...
Umm this is only funny if you speak Spanish because if you don't, you won't understand a word?
@@phishcatt No, it's funnier because of their accents 🤣
Rosario's Spanish pronunciation is pretty much native-like. I'm surprised she only speaks English in interviews from Spanish-language networks.

Americans thinks this is racist and mexicans love everything in SNL.
We always laugh of ourselves.
IMHo these were the best years of SNL. Having spent three years in high school Spanish, this totally resonates with me. One year into learning Italian it REALLY resonates with me.
I love how you can tell she's actually a native speaker but is faking an American accent while adding common grammar mistakes. I call that the reverse-Sofía Vergara accent.

As former Mexican criminal, I can confirm that Mexican interrogatories are quite like this, word by word.
I remember my Spanish teacher in 9th grade showed us this. At the time I didn't get the humor, but now I find it hilarious!

When this originally aired, I was 11 and genuinely believed that the SNL writers went to an elementary school and asked a real class to write a sketch 😅
They did not???
that is adorable!
I think the same now, but I´m on my thirties!
As someone who started watching SNL from the first season, I am convinced a majority of their skits in later years were written by juveniles.
@@CigarDoug well, Adam Sandler and Rob Schneider wrote a lot of those sketches in the early 1990s, so
I can watch this a thousand times!
When El Jefe comes in and asks "Que hors es?", I wonder if that's a nod to the MadTV sketch of that name, which was basically the same idea (a Mexican soap opera written by people who only took very basic Spanish in 3rd grade)...
I took Spanish in the ninth grade. I'm pretty sure these fourth graders did better than all of us combined.

Funny fact is Rosario can speak spanish perfectly but here she applies the “american” pronunciation, and Fred is the one who speaks with great pronunciation 95% of the time. I thought that mixing who can speak well and how was made on purpose.

@@MarcosElMalo2 Yes he does
No, Dawson might speak a few Spanish phrases. But by no means does she speak it perfectly or fluent.

Most importantly the kids wrote the whole thing, so an elementary level Spanish was the goal. They portrayed it perfectly and hilariously regardless of some of the actors Latin roots or Spanish mastery. 😂
