    Really glad I came across this, really sound advice. Would be great to get some advice/video on how to focus underwater. My Sony A6600 / Nauticam do not allow manual focus and Im having so many focus hunting issues with AF I'm going mad. Any help would be really appreciated.

    I have a question tho: how is shutter speed in underwater filmmaking different from underwater photo?

  • @OlegKaplun

    Im literally taking pictures/videos of my fish tank to see the differences. Great video.

      For me GH5 with Keldan 8x lights and I use INON ML floats but Nauticam and other manufacturers have similar ones :) see the UW camera housing buoyancy episode

    Could you please inform which lens You use with GH5 for underwater filming? Or maybe which one You'd recommend.

      Plenty ;) 45mm macro lumix or 60mm olympus macro. 12-35 lumix and 8mm macro fisheye olympus. Personally I dont like the 7-14 F4 lumix, cause too dark.

      So how does that work for Camcorders? I've never seen any shutter speed settings on those, and they were pretty popular for uw filming a few years back.

    • @ReefPatrol
      @ReefPatrol 5 лет назад +2

      we concentrate on the future, not the past *lol* @@vincentregis but usually you can set it to MANUAL SHUTTER and then change it. At least with my very old camcorders that was the case.

    Great video Vanessa.
    As some kind of middle ground between auto-mode and full manual for filming I can recommend shooting in shutter speed priority mode with the shutter speed set as mentioned in the video (twice the framerate). It will make your life easier for quickly changing light conditions, but comes with the drawback of not having everything perfect in every situation.

    Your tutorials have really helped me out a lot... looking forward to more tutorials from you. I recently upgraded from my Fuji xt2 to the canon r5 but I haven’t got the chance to take it underwater yet and I’m waiting to buy the nauticam housing for the same... so I’ve been playing with the settings on the r5 but while trying to film at 4K 120fps with a shutter speed of 200-250 I’m getting a lot of flickering.. how do I counter this... even if I bring it down to 100 shitter speed I’m getting this flickering... I haven’t shot any videos yet and I’m relatively new to it

    Thanks for the tutorial. I have a relevant question - Under or above water, I note it's common to slow down the fps when editing to enhance movement, i.e. shooting in 30 fps and stretching the footages out to 25 fps in post. In this case, which should you base your shutter speed on? Is it 1/60 or 1/50?

    • @ReefPatrol
      @ReefPatrol 5 лет назад

      Shutter always double of you filming framerate so 1/60 if filming in 30 fps :)

    Well done Vanessa, I really like the way you present and explain. Adopting the Peter McKinnon style for your videos seems to work well for you and since you are focused on underwater filming and photography I don't see it as a ripp-off, rather a cross over😉 You already put your own spinn on it and trying to get close to film-making legends like Peter can only be a good thing as you set your bar high. This really shows in your production value. I wish you and your channel all the best and looking forward to more of your clips. Definite like and subscribe👍

    Again nice Tips thank you. One question, is the GH5 able to set a manual whitebalance in a "recall mode" (C1-3)? The Sony aren't able to do, so you have to go to back to a other mode set the WB and note the value and go back to your custom setting and put in the value for the WB this is really disappointing ;-(

    • @ReefPatrol
      @ReefPatrol 5 лет назад +1

      yes you can :) You even have several options to set the WB (manual or kelvin) and then save it to the cuttom buttons.

    • @Aui-Videography
      @Aui-Videography 5 лет назад +1

      @@ReefPatrol Thanks for the fast reply, its a shame for Sony... Even the WB UW is not that good like Canon and Panasonic... Shit happens ;-) Again Nice work.

    • @ReefPatrol
      @ReefPatrol 5 лет назад +1

      personally I find Canon's WB to be best, but it really depends on so mayn other aspects uw :) redfilter, ambient light, depth,... @@Aui-Videography

    • @Aui-Videography
      @Aui-Videography 5 лет назад +1

      @@ReefPatrol Yes the same here, i like the canon colors. But i totally agree with you, it depends on so much other things uw, so let's get down there and capture some great image not matter what kind of equipment ;-)

    Did you make video for still photography? I looked around your channel and I couldn't find anything for still photo. It seems that you are focused on videography only.
