When I was a kid like 15years ago I went to school with a girl who’s mom ran a “mommy blog”. Privacy did not exist in that house, everything got posted. Her every tantrum, bad day, overtired whining or injury got posted for thousands of anonymous strangers and to make it worse kids at school found it and bullied her about it. A lot of kids weren’t allowed to be friends with her because they’d be talked about in the next entry. I fully believe mommy blogs and family RUclips channels that post every day are abusive because to keep up with that schedule you have to do away with privacy to generate enough content
Really it does I can't imagine what kids feel these days. I feel bad for them. I am lucky enough to have parents that didn't believe in post stuff online unless it's stuff like holidays or dinner parties.
Another reason why the dislike counter should come back: To show that the general viewing public do not want to see these horrible clout chasers exploit their children.
This is the exact reason they removed it, to prevent people like Charlie sending (either on purpose or not) over to dislike bomb crap like this. this crap makes youtube a LOT of money, why would they want it removed? they can't be seen helping this content because then they can't claim they ignorance, but that can remove obstacles for 'other' reasons that just so happen to help content like this and the content farms that spew out fake and dangerous how to style videos.
Another reason the disliked numbers should come back: to show that the general public doesn't want to see these horribly influential hunters exploit their children.
Dislikes never did anything, I wish people would stop acting like it impacted anything ever posted on here just because it's gone now. I don't watch family vlogs, and don't give them views. Even if you did dislike, your view still counted and now your algorithm is fucked up until you manually tell it to stop show you related content........ 🙄🙄
@@psomichelle2758 dislikes are what informs most viewers about the legitimacy or validity of a video. Removing it was a terrible choice on RUclips's end. It being removed means that the only way you'd be able to tell if a video is good or not is to go to the comment section which can be heavily filtered by the creator so it doesn't really make sense. They removed it because of "harassment" and "dislike bombing" which would be valid reasons for giving the creator a choice of hiding the dislikes, not removing it from the platform as a whole.
@@cesj1 this absolutely isn't true; there have been multiple times where videos have been bombarded with dislikes and negative comments, even if what the person was saying wasn't bad/was true, or videos of blatant lies/misinformation being spread that faced very little criticism; a video having a good like to dislike ratio only means something in terms of legitimacy if the creator doesn't have a decently sized supportive audience.
In about 10-20 years an absolute avalanche of documentaries and books are going to come out from the kids of these families detailing how their childhoods were stolen and how fucked the household dynamics were, mark my words.
That is a thing I spoke with a relative of mine about recently. There absolutely will be documentaries and discussions about this in the future when time moves on. And a lot of messed up stuff will come to light probably too. It's really disheartening to think about tbh.
Along with family vlog channels, I absolutely HATE channels with neurodivergent kids and adults getting babied just because of their disability. I saw a mom on tiktok film her son having a breakdown and posting it on the internet for "educational" purposes. It's not educational, it's humiliating and its sickening how normal it is for neurodivergent people to be taken advantage of in vulnerable moments where privacy is needed the most.
Even worst if the abuse on children does count. Daddyofive is an infamous example of what every parents shouldn't be. I'm glad the two kids (Cody and Emma) cut ties with the dad and step mom stay with their real mom who won the custody. Everyone on the web knows what's going. The reupload of the videos does exist but it displays the legacy as one of the worst RUclipsrs on the list.
Agree 100%. There's this one channel called Fathering Autism that's particularly bad with this. (or at least they used to be- I haven't heard anything about them in a while) The dad claims their channel is to help other parents with autistic kids, but believe it or not, there's a way to do that WITHOUT shoving a camera in your kid's face 24/7 and violating their privacy. It's pretty clear their daughter doesn't even want to be on camera most of the time anyway. Just because someone has a disability and is, in the case of this kid, nonverbal, doesn't mean they don't deserve the same rights to privacy as everyone else.
absolutely. "autism moms" are some of the worst people ive ever had the misfortune of encountering online. half of them write articles about hating their child and wishing they would be cured. they talk about how their kids make THEIR lives harder without considering the pressure theyre constantly putting on their kids. a lot of them straight up film their kids having breakdowns and post it publicly. imagine being that kid, growing up, and finding the videos/articles of your mom broadcasting your symptoms to the entire world and wishing you were "normal". what a nightmare
That's what I thought too until someone pointed out it's real. This means at least 2 adults who raise children and vote, made this thumbnail and video, and then decided it was a good idea to post it, then thousands more people clicked on this video thinking it was worth watching and keeping in the back of their mind that they might see a lewd 12 year old. I want out of this fucking timeline.
Yes, and for some reason, the video was out there for a considerably long time. Unsurprisingly, the comments were full of ZAMN memes too. I remember searching for it thinking that it must be down already, only for it to be the first result
I've got a masters degree in child psychology, and honestly Charlie the points you raised are bang on. The saddest part was when you speculated that the majority of children watching these channels are those from broken homes. It's heartbreaking and at the same time the kid is watching a dysfunctional family without even realising they are. Being exposed to these shitty examples of parenting could really mess a child up in the future if they start a family of their own. This is how they're learning to be parents themselves.
Yeah for instance always giving them candy. For real you give your kids candy Everytime they're on camera. That kind of treatment not only would alter how they learn to cope with problems but reinforces filming. Just unhealthy in many ways. IMHO.
Although you could argue the opposite, it could be spoiled/privileged kids that live somewhat sheltered lives and they enjoy seeing other kids get hurt because it's considered taboo. I came from a dysfunctional childhood and I always hated seeing this kind of stuff.
So true. I looked to movies and tv a lot to teach me about life… it didn’t serve me well. Took me a lot of failures and trauma to start really learning.
The only “good” family vlog channel I’ve ever seen is this one woman on tiktok who started by just filming tiktoks of making her kids lunch, and her kids actually ASKED to be in the tiktoks, and whenever a kid is crying or doesn’t wanna be on camera she NEVER shows them on camera. And even just based on the way she packs their lunches and knows all their favorite foods and snacks is very very wholesome.
There’s a few good gems. Not all of it is bad or exposes things that shouldn’t be seen. I think some people forget that we don’t live with these people. Not everyone is out to do malicious shit. So anyway, thecampisis channel is funny, it’s mostly the husband and wife ball busting each other, with occasional appearances from the kids. The other one I love is Beleaf in Fatherhood. He actually has educational videos where he just really shows you what it’s like being a parent of his family. You get to see all the interaction with his kids, and he psychologically breaks down and analyzes things. It’s also impressive to see the levels of communication skills his family has, all the way down to the youngest baby who’s maybe like 2? it’s pretty interesting and the intention is clearly not to expose anything so it’s all good by me.
@@WTFisHappeningToMe I don't remember the name or anything but i watched a documentary about a japanese single father making a bento for his daughter throughout her high-school days and including a special note with every single lunch. It was very wholesome and like a transfer of wisdom and anecdotes in in notes. Very special.
There is also a different channel on tik tok that is just parents recording while there babies do silly things and one in them does have a disease but they almost never talk about it.
Personally I find a kid randomly tripping and wiping out kinda funny... I feel bad for old people because of how brittle bones get but anyone falling I guess. But if they like fall out of a tree or off a wall then yeah I'm like oh crap, you okay?! Does that still count?

This is also really enabling kidnappings. Ive heard a few mommy vloggers say the same thing: they had an incident where a stranger tried to pick up their kid from school. The person could give the kids full name, parents name, describe their car, house, activities, jobs. I feel like some daycares/schools could get tricked by this. Its just a matter of time.
SO TRUE. Parents used to always say to never give anyone a photo of yourself online or your name or anything about where you live, but now parents are just throwing this information out for anyone to see.

I've had many arguments with my mom as a teen whenever she was sharing things about me with my own blood related aunts. I would have gone totally mad if she had shared my personal life with the whole world. At that age you're still discovering and experimenting and you don't need to be micromanaged by everyone giving their two cents.
My mom told every single family member immediately when she learned I was gay by going through my personal things. She never questioned it. She still doesn’t see anything wrong with it.

These poor kids are literally going through a Truman Show scenario, except that they've known their whole live that every moment has been broadcasted on RUclips for all to see. I can't imagine how scarring that would be
I’m also concerned because kids especially adolescents often have a mental state called the imaginary audience. It’s where they think everyone is scrutinizing what they do much more than they actually are
The saddest part is that we cannot imagine growing up that way because we didn't, and we know it's wrong. But they don't. That's all they've ever known, it's normal for them. It would be odd if there was no camera around and that just breaks my heart.
Its how most animals and even lifeforms are, imagine all those animals in cages who are born there and will die there too, for their meat as food, reproductive glands for parfume or even just because another creature thinks you look good and wants to keep you in a cage just coe the fun of it. But these creatures dont know any different, its their life and their home, the place they have grown to feel as safe as they get to feel. It makes me angry but all you can do is pinpoint it and either avoid it or do something about it. The definition of life is struggle, and the less you struggle the more you can help others from that struggle. Peace!

There's not a single doubt in my mind that Ryan from Ryan Toy Reviews is gonna go through a rebellious phase when he realizes that his parents are stealing from him
Ryan isn't a vlog channel though. He's more of a child actor where the parents (hopefully) take the ethical boundaries to make set pieces for recording but otherwise respect his life. The vlog channels are very different because they exploit normal lives of their children.
I genuinely admire how Charlie is more of a concerned "parent" figure to those kids than to their original parents who filmed their life for years on camera without even considering how they feel. It was heartbreaking to think the negative long-term effects that the kids could have on this type of videos.
Those kids will never know a life where there isn’t a camera shoved in their face 24/7. They’ll never know privacy, they’ll never be able to set healthy boundaries between themselves and the viewers, and every tragedy or mistake will be put on the air for the world to see. It’s a sad way to grow up; it’s definitely not a healthy environment.

There's actually people on Reddit and Tiktok who are 16-20 who talk about their experiences being the children in family vlogs and how traumatized they are form it
They see it as hating because it calls them out for what they really are. It forces them to be confronted with the fact that they have failed as parents.
Yes! This! If you bring it to their attention that what they’re doing could have negative impacts on their children they always say you’re “hating” or “bringing negativity” to their channel. And they’ll always say that because if they do any sort of self reflection on their actions they wouldn’t be able to justify exploiting their children for their own personal wealth.

My (mentally ill) mother watches family channels on RUclips and she has no clue how they harm children. The one she watches FOSTERS and adopts, and currently has 21 children in their care. I cringe everytime she blasts it on her iPad. I was absolutely floored when I heard the parents asking all their kids for their ages, names, STATE, and not just their state...but TOWN that they all live in. Wtf? Not only are you showing your kid's face on camera, but now the audience knows their ages, names and where they live. Most of them ranged from 8-14. Absolutely no excuse to push a camera in your kid's face and encourage them to give out personal information.
That reminds me of that absolutely terrifying religious cult family on RUclips. They dress in all white except for the creepy father who is twice the mothers age. They have 10 children yet spend months out of the year living in a caravan, the children are all homeschooled (never a good sign with religious fundamentalists). They named them all after fantasy characters and historical figures (cleopatra, Aphrodite, one is literally named King James) they terrify me

Don’t even get me started on feeling like you’re screaming and nobody can hear you over your parents fucked up narrative that everything is great. So many ways to fuck up your kid with one video!!! Reminds me of Gary Crosby's claims about his father, Bing Crosby: "Then the lights came on and the movie was over. All the way back to the house I thought about the difference between the person up there on the screen and the one I knew at home."
These channels absolutely appeal to pedos. I remember reading a certain AMA on Reddit that made me realize real pedos will get off to even completely normal family pics randomly found on social media. So 'family vlogs' must be a goldmine to them. It's probably the main reason I hate this type of channel. The idea of parents exposing their children to really gross people for money is just deplorable.
fr, i remember watching a Yt video about this. they would show weird comments on kids videos and stuff. i’m glad youtube removed comments on videos made for kids
I never thought of the kids from broken homes watching these but as someone who was abused growing up it really did make me tear up thinking about this. I didn’t have RUclips when I was really young, more so when I was a teen but I remember how bad it hurt when I saw other people’s moms being sweet and friendly with their kids. I can only imagine how much more accessible it is for kids to just be able to look up the “perfect family” and get trapped in a cycle of watching to feel something and then feeling even sadder and more hollow after the video ends.
Rhett and Link do parenting as a RUclipsr correctly imo They keep their kids' privacy and let them cameo on an episode if they want to occasionally, and most times will refuse to talk about anecdotes that their kids might not want to be out there. They put the kids first, knowing not all of them will grow up and want their bad days to be on the Internet for anyone to see
can't imagine the actual trauma you grow up with when every time you need to open up, confess, get upset/cry to your parents, their first reaction is to grab a camera and shamelessly record you without hiding it while you desperately seek actual parenting
I have two daughters, aged 7 and 5. They started watching those channels and I cracked down on it hard. It was encouraging bad behavior, exaggerated and over-the-top reactions and no impulse control. I got them into let's play channels (like minecraft and mario) and music channels. Really helped getting those vlog channels out of their system.
@@fabulousalenore56 Thanks, I try. I know a lot of people would think I'm terrible because I let them watch playthroughs of horror games or listen to Ninja Sex Party. I can't get that clip out of my head of the mother and son inside their car at the vets that you shared, where she was asking him to cry for the camera over their dog. For the adults who have this attachment to family channels, it feels very “One Hour Photo” like. “One Hour Photo” is a movie with Robin Williams playing a photo development technician at a store who gets obsessed with one of the families that gets their photos developed there because he’s lonely, so he forms this parasocial relationship with them and feels like he’s a part of their lives and imagines he’s a part of the memories in the photos they take. As for the kids of the family vlog channels, I can’t imagine the level of paranoia that would come from being constantly seen by millions regularly. Feeling like you have to be “palatable” and socially perform, becoming too closed off to enforce boundaries you never had, becoming too open because you’re used to the scrutiny and display, etc. it’s overall a destructive thing for everyone
Knowing evil family channels like these exist and continue to make a killing on their children's suffering is certainly one more out of countless fucked up things on this earth that make me feel like the eye nightmare scene in that movie. I used to be a fan of Dance Moms and a lot of what you said aligns with what happened on that show. They'd put little girls in sexy and skin-colored clothes because that will draw people in out of sheer curiosity. Then people would talk about it and more people would see the show. I don't even know how many times the girls on that show had panic attacks. The producers LOVED that shit. These little girls are saying they can't breathe, and they're so stressed out because they're afraid of their dance teacher. And it's not like their moms could just take them somewhere else, they were contracted to it. And the producers set things up to make people look bad. It didn't matter if it was a child or an adult. For example, Peyton was told to say her and the rest of her team danced better than anyone else there, and they made it look like she said she was better than her teammates. She got death threats on social media because the producers made her look bad. Most of those girls are in their late teens and early 20s. The world watched them grow up. A lot of them (and their mothers) have been talking about the realities of the "reality" show they were on. How fake it was, how being on the show affected their mental health etc. It's becoming too easy to take advantage of vulnerable people and the reasons for doing so are much more narcissistic than ever.

It’s not even just family’s either, it’s couples as well. I remember seeing a tiktok of this woman filming her husband who was crying outside of the house with the caption “I’ve never seen him cry before, this is so sad”. Clearly the guy went outside and cried to avoid shame, and then she films him and puts him on the fucking internet for views.
I was raised in a similar situation where I was constantly forced into a family blog against my will. I really hope these kids can escape as soon as possible.
When I was a kid, whenever I threw a fit about anything, my parents would record it, and threaten to send it to RUclips... thank god they never did... but they told me later in life that they didn't... but at the time they would say "uploading it to RUclips" and sure it got me to quit throwing the fit... but I was so scared to go to school the next day thinking the other students would judge me
When Charlie mentioned the possibility of wholesome family channels, the one that popped to mind was the "How to Dad" channel. Compared to other channels it seems actually genuine, and just the family goofing around.
I was thinking of "How To Dad" as well, you can see that the girls genuinely enjoy goofing around with their dad to make these silly videos and they voluntarily decide to partake in them and can leave at any time. He also doesn't share too much info and his channel is mainly just skits, not actual vlogs as well
The worst part about these family channels is that when the kids grow up, they will see those videos and just witness how much they were being exploited during childhood.
RUclips really needs to be held accountable for a lot of this. They're fully aware it exists no their platform, and yet they always seem to disregard the toxic content that has thrived on it.
Dude fr. People like Charlie are doing RUclips's job for them at this point by calling out this horrible shit that they turn a blind eye to. Charlie's made videos on animal abuse channels, the failed abortion MaximilianMus and his toxic community, and now this. Maybe even more I don't remember. Meanwhile Susan W thinks it's a good idea to get rid of dislikes.
@@waterbottles393 RUclips's decisions are baffling. They're always doing so much mental gymnastics to justify dumb shit like removing dislikes to protect scammers and dogshit advertisements. It's good that this stuff is being addressed but it really shouldn't be a problem (or at least such a big problem).

@Demon Slayer To be honest, I really hope they aren't (aware). I say that because that would mean that they persist despite the knowledge of irreparable damage to their children. I'm sure you're right though, certainly the thought has crossed their mind once or twice despite their narcissism.

How many of these child injuries could be avoided if they're parents were not recording and being responsible parents? If the injuries are even real in the first place.
@@snickle1980 hmm maybe i don't know. They might not get strikes but definitely get demonized we see so many extremely popular RUclipsrs get demonized for cursing or even talking about non family friendly topics so I'm sure these people don't want to get demonetized right ?

There is also no guarantee he will ever see any of the money he worked for. If his parents are truly awful (I’m not saying they are), they could choose to never give him a dime
Couldn’t agree more. To add another point, consent. How can a child consent to permanent footage of them on the internet? There are so many risks to becoming a public figure that a child could never conceive.
i did a lot of dumb shit as a child and the development of a teen is so important I can't imagine having the world able to see it and judge someone.. like it should be illegal honestly
one family vlog channel i hate with a passion is 8 passengers. they sent their son to an abusive wilderness therapy program bc he played a harmless prank on his little brother. they also didn't give him a room for 7 months and he was forced to sleep on the floor (a bean bag being the next best thing)

I always think back to the Shaytards, those children's whole lives are literally on youtube just about every single day up until a certain point. I've always wondered how that affected them growing up

Shaycarl is not a good person, he cheated on his wife and she left him for a while and the only reason he's got cash was from exploiting his kids for views. Plus his nickname for his family is Tards? I still remember that one video when he was drunk and sent his son flying off a golf cart doing donuts on the course
@breezetix yeah it was years ago so i don't remember fully but he was talking to some girl on twitter and he got weird or something and the messages got out, him and his wife were split up for a bit too but they got back together i'm guessing for the kids and vlogs.
I was a teacher before the pandemic, and something my child psychology professor in college touched on that's always stuck with me was that no one in that field at the time could really imagine how much of a negative impact that constantly broadcasting every aspect of their private lives could have on a child's development. Needless to say, it certainly hasn't helped any of those children's mental health.
I'm sure we'll have a better understanding in 10 years time vlogging didn't become super popular till around 2010 I think so there aren't many adults/kids who can be evaluated
I'm surprised they didn't start looking at reality TV since it was ground zero for recording children just living their lives. Its at least a really good starting point since many people who have suffered but pushed through Television end up never touching the industry again.
What the final straw for me was when I saw some of the kids in certain vlogs moving out and still having to pay for their own college. These kids put dinner on the table more than you did, but you can't give them a few thousand dollars out of the millions you made off of them? It's like a generation of Colemans
The icky feeling I have after watching every single "family vlog" tells me everything I need to know about these channels. It's gross. The gut feeling I have about these families is just really, really bad vibes
Family vlog channels are a form of child abuse. It's one thing if the channel was focused on something else and just happens to feature children now and then, but this takes it to another level.
A few years back I was exploited by people like crazy, not on youtube or instagram, but as in they didn't care about me because I am autistic. It was not the kids by the way, it was the people who where supposed to take care of me but got tired of me after 3 days, they put me on medication that resulted in a suicide attempt and did much more. These family channels remind me of that, constantly being exploited, an endless hell that scares me unlike anything. They'll go on to have traumas as adults like I ended up, there are people in prison who did less horrible things than these family channels and that is not an exaggeration. Thank you for reading.

These channels are just the tip of the iceberg for the fucked up ways people exploit their children. What goes on everyday outside of general public scrutiny would be more correctly described as mind-numbingly horrifying.
That’s what happens in an individualistic capitalist society, it’s all about making money. Genuine human connections come *maybe later* if they even come to any realization.
I worked with a kid who watched Ryan’s toy reviews and these are the exact thoughts I had. This kids life is revolving around reviewing toys that his own toy company is making. I wonder how well his parents are teaching him how to share and not be a narcissist. Like your childhood years are essential to your development. It makes me wonder where the world is heading lol
"His own toy company"? Well I mean...Right now, he's basically an employee of his parents toy company where he works full time producing content for his parents channel. I think if you consider everything else his parents have failed to do for their children, it's safe to assume there isn't much concern for his future well-being.
you hit the nail on the head with the audience bit, when I was a kid I would sit and watch family blogs because my family was very broken and I was not getting a ton of attention + we didnt have a ton of money so seeing these kids get what I wanted so bad was like? idk nice it somthing. (for reference I'm 16 as of now, I know it's weird saying "when I was a kid" because family blogs have only been around for so long)
I used to watch family channels everyday (this was years ago when I was 9-13). Looking back what the weirdest thing was about it was how much I knew about them. From their doctors appointments to if they were constipated that day to if someone died. It’s not always clickbait. In fact it’s usually all true. They’re so quick to sensor their doctors face but I get to watch their toddler get a shot and cry? They’d literally film their kids on the toilet despite definitely knowing about the creeps that time stamped that part. It’s crazy how much I, a 9 year old girl, knew about this family on the other side of the world and how much they were willing to put online despite knowing of the dangers and damage
As someone who's had really bad social anxiety from a young age, I genuinely cannot imagine being raised in such an environment... it was bad enough being bullied and living in a toxic household, but then to have all that posted to RUclips? I can only imagine how many of these children actually developed really bad anxiety issues as a result of being on camera all the time.
I've been saying now for a while: I'm sure, in upcoming years, we will be introduced with new child protection laws that will target family vlog channels, instagram babies/kids that are being put on the spot light by the parents etc. Because I think already it's getting out of hand with all these mommy vloggers. I see Europe starting this movement first, but it would be awesome if it started in US, because then it would be easier and faster pass in other countries too.
The US, much like youtube, craves the big $$$$ and will work to allow parents or guardians of children to exploit their kids for adverts and notoriety. When it comes to these matters in the government and freedoms, it could be viewed as overstepping certain rights - such as the capacity to make an income.
@@StoicVeR Interesting...I could easily see that as the main argument, and it's a difficult one to address. I suppose there's a reasonable middle ground somewhere, where the law doesn't overstep it's bounds. To make matters worse, while these protective laws that involve labor and exploitation DO get written from time to time, we're a reactionary nation of laws. We'll need a rather large crisis or story before anyone even begins to considers this.
@@StoicVeR The only way this will end is if enough people boycott these family channels so they're no longer profitable, which will then mean they have no more influence and also no more money to bribe the government to not arrest them.

Social media era really brings out the narcissism in everyone including parents... ((shudders))
That's so crazy. We're watching this happen right before our eyes too.
Gone girl was a famous movie about that happening, surprised nobody talks about it
Really it does I can't imagine what kids feel these days. I feel bad for them. I am lucky enough to have parents that didn't believe in post stuff online unless it's stuff like holidays or dinner parties.
Family vlog channels actually used to be good. Channels like evantube and funnel vision were our childhoods
Another reason why the dislike counter should come back: To show that the general viewing public do not want to see these horrible clout chasers exploit their children.
While I agree, it's mostly little kids who watch those videos so they don't know any better.
Most of them remove the dislike or like ability when that happens which they can do for videos made for kids.
But what about CNN and the corporate news. How will people take them serious with their 90% dislike ratio
@@xxx0ox0 that would be great! See how the public really feels about their versions of “news”

Our next best bet it to tweet/make videos of our disdain for this "content". Surely an influx with videos pointing this out could make a point. Idk
Dislikes never did anything, I wish people would stop acting like it impacted anything ever posted on here just because it's gone now. I don't watch family vlogs, and don't give them views.
Thank youuuuuu 🙏🏻
@@cesj1 this absolutely isn't true; there have been multiple times where videos have been bombarded with dislikes and negative comments, even if what the person was saying wasn't bad/was true, or videos of blatant lies/misinformation being spread that faced very little criticism; a video having a good like to dislike ratio only means something in terms of legitimacy if the creator doesn't have a decently sized supportive audience.

I'm interested. May you share any more detail

That isn’t necessarly scarring if nobody tells them it’s scarring. They’ll just grow up different than you or your grandpa grew
Or most kids on RUclips will go insane mark my words
I’m also concerned because kids especially adolescents often have a mental state called the imaginary audience. It’s where they think everyone is scrutinizing what they do much more than they actually are
The saddest part is that we cannot imagine growing up that way because we didn't, and we know it's wrong. But they don't. That's all they've ever known, it's normal for them. It would be odd if there was no camera around and that just breaks my heart.

They named them all after fantasy characters and historical figures (cleopatra, Aphrodite, one is literally named King James) they terrify me
Jesus, legally you can't share names or videos of foster kids (sadly, adopted kids are not spared) so that's legitimately illegal.
I feel very sad for the children in these videos, their disgusting parents exploiting for money is terrible. I'm surprised child labor and abuse laws aren't being enforced on these channels.

Rhett and Link do parenting as a RUclipsr correctly imo
They keep their kids' privacy and let them cameo on an episode if they want to occasionally, and most times will refuse to talk about anecdotes that their kids might not want to be out there.
They put the kids first, knowing not all of them will grow up and want their bad days to be on the Internet for anyone to see
Thats the first channel that came to mind that did it right
Wha5t about roman atwood i think he in orporates his kids and family in a fun way
Philip DeFranco's another good example. His son only makes a cameo once in a blue moon and Phil rarely ever talks about his family life in his videos.
Ethan and hila Klein of H3H3 are also a great example
DanTDM too, refuses to show Asher's face and very rarely shows him in videos
can't imagine the actual trauma you grow up with when every time you need to open up, confess, get upset/cry to your parents, their first reaction is to grab a camera and shamelessly record you without hiding it while you desperately seek actual parenting
I would just stop venting to them and hide my emotions as much as possible when around them, just to spite them

This is a criminally underrated comment right now. Very astute
The only thing I knew about this movie was the Evangelion reference
Knowing evil family channels like these exist and continue to make a killing on their children's suffering is certainly one more out of countless fucked up things on this earth that make me feel like the eye nightmare scene in that movie.
Edit: Hell, this thread got me watching One Hour Photo again... and the dialogue scene of Sy at the end not only heavily touches upon traumatized children's need for parasocial interaction, but also _horrendously predicts_ the difficult adult life dealing with said trauma that the children of these family channels will have to face in the future: ruclips.net/video/OdU3vEh3qfs/видео.html *_(obvious spoilers for those who haven't watched the movie)_*

Chances are your account has already been processed by multiple scrappers at this point. The only way to get red it of it is to manually delete it (and have access to it) but the scrappers who already processed it have won.
If you are really scared, foil hat andy, you could always make new accounts with the same name and same past but with new present. Lie about your eduction, relationship, current country/city, join groups you don't care about, etc... When Charlie mentioned the possibility of wholesome family channels, the one that popped to mind was the "How to Dad" channel. Compared to other channels it seems actually genuine, and just the family goofing around.
FGTV lowkey does a decent job 😩
@@bandito186 yes they let the kids leave the recording whenever they want too
Your Korean dad is pretty wholesome too
I was thinking of "How To Dad" as well, you can see that the girls genuinely enjoy goofing around with their dad to make these silly videos and they voluntarily decide to partake in them and can leave at any time. He also doesn't share too much info and his channel is mainly just skits, not actual vlogs as well
Or the "Dad, How Do I?" channel
The worst part about these family channels is that when the kids grow up, they will see those videos and just witness how much they were being exploited during childhood.

RUclips really needs to be held accountable for a lot of this. They're fully aware it exists no their platform, and yet they always seem to disregard the toxic content that has thrived on it.
Dude fr. People like Charlie are doing RUclips's job for them at this point by calling out this horrible shit that they turn a blind eye to. Enabling bullying, ruining their chances with their dating life, make them have toxic friendships, etc... Whole bunch of unnecessary shit for a kid ig
@Demon Slayer To be honest, I really hope they aren't (aware). I say that because that would mean that they persist despite the knowledge of irreparable damage to their children. I'm sure you're right though, certainly the thought has crossed their mind once or twice despite their narcissism.

I always think back to the Shaytards, those children's whole lives are literally on youtube just about every single day up until a certain point. I've always wondered how that affected them growing up
I remember there was an episode where one of the daughters spit in the mom's face, then felt really bad about it the next day. She's a child that learned a lesson children learn, but that moment is cemented for the public to see and it really fucking sucks.
@@SidVirtuous I do remember that one actually, I felt weird about it then and still do now. Also when the whole Shay cheating stuff broke I thought about how all their family business was just out there for their friends, teachers and whoever to see.
@@SidVirtuous yeah I was thinking about exactly that moment. And people *hated* her for it. Complete strangers. Because of the specific aspect of the incident that was left in that vlog

I feel like child stars and what inevitably happens when they grow up are a prime example of the negative effect shit like this does to them
Are you the cory corson in the komi-san group?

What people were supposed to take care of you?

You have no idea.....
It makes me wonder where the world is heading lol
im scared ryan might grow up to become a gremlin
"His own toy company"? Well I mean...Right now, he's basically an employee of his parents toy company where he works full time producing content for his parents channel. I think if you consider everything else his parents have failed to do for their children, it's safe to assume there isn't much concern for his future well-being.
I just love watching Charlie after my mom yells at me. Really calms me down.
