It’s kind of like how companies purposely make a product bad to get more profit in the long run, but in the entertainment industry that’s a really stupid idea.
Marvel has almost 20,000 characters in their lore. Thousands of storylines to choose from, hell they can make their own stories too as long as they’re good. They’re not gonna run out of content any time soon.
They could add like 10 other Spider-men variants alone that'll still pull in more players. That's just a tiny tip of the iceberg. I'm looking forward to more X-Men characters myself.
@@GooseMonkey. why would they do that??? They’d be handicapping themselves cuz they have almost infinite potential for characters. Meanwhile, League of Legends is out here with 169 champions. Lol isn't a team-based fps, but it's still 169 different characters you need to learn the skills of if you truly want to reach the highest heights of competitive play.
You don't really need to learn much besides knowing what skills they have in LoL. Dota 2 however.. Of course, gamejournos do not play either of the games so..
Yeah, and well that's on part nice, but on the other hand it makes it very hard to a new player to enter. I tried to learn LoL so many times but I just don't have enought time to be able to learn everything about the game as it is right now and for me that have been always a big barrier to start playing lol. Personally, I don't think this will be a problem on MR, mainly because of their philosophy of not tranforming the game into a competitive focused thing, which will not demand for them perfectly designed heroes or mantaining a good balance, something impossible to do if you release 4-5 characters every 3 months. But the main problem I can have with this is that, if they continue with this ratio of releases, that means they will be developing a character every 2-3 weeks, and if they don't have enought time to try every character and test how they work in the game, maybr someday they can release their own OG Brigitte type of character, and man, I don't desire that for any successful game on the industry. At least MR has a ban system, so, it wouldn't be as bad as OW Brigitte moment. But let's see how this evolve.
The level of cope is incredible. They WANT this game to fail. A massive roster = bad, free to play = bad, hot characters = bad. They are trying to undo reverse anything that sounds good into a problem. Their bias is extremely evident. It's like your family member that doesn't like something because a person that they hate likes that particular thing.
"... doesn't like something because a person that they hate likes that particular thing" pretty sure thats the exact mindset these journos and shills have actually "thing we dont agree with is popular? Well acktually thing is bad and its everyone else that is wrong and also the problem" its ironic considering its marvel, i expected it to be the other way around for this one. maybe in a week or two they'll suddenly do a 180 "for no reason at all" and start singing its praises instead lol
No one is coming to mind from Marvel fitting that description (I'm sure there are) but it couldn't hurt to have more than the one female hero (Squirrel Girl) with a body type that isn't super slim when the male heroes have so much diversity in their builds. Closest to a second is Magik while in her ult or that you never see Peni outside the mech in a match
I get their pov on the matter since ow is it's own original concept where marvel rivals isn't. I'm not talking about game design here obviously. It will be interesting to see where this goes but I don't think it was a bad decision to release the amount of content they did at release. It's what helped make the game popular. I'm sure they thought this through prior to adding everyone they did. Only time will tell if they'll run out of marvel characters but until then, let's just enjoy the ride.
That is pure pro-Corporate propaganda, lmao. From like 2010 to still now; gamers have been b@#$hing that games nowadays purposely cut out content from a full game so they can sell the remaining parts for upcoming DLC. Well, i get what they are trying to say. Marvel Rivals already has most of the iconic heroes and even if marvel has tons of characters to add only few of them are really popular. BUT the thing is that Marvel Rivals can make even not popular hero quite the opposite. Like, who tf knew about squirrel girl (talking about regular players, not a die hard marvel fans) before this game? Same with Jeff and lots of other ones.

0:34 Obvious tourist is obvious. Marvel still has zillion big name characters to be added. X-Men alone could easily get some 100 new ones and that's not mentioning any deep cuts like Fin Fang Foom. And you know what you do when you don't have any more "big names"? You take the small ones and make them big. Not even comic book nerds cared about Guardians of the Galaxy before the 2014 movie. Oh, and hey, let's bring up the fact that Alien and Predator are basically Marvel-adjacent characters now. They've always had crossovers (usually with DC), but since Disney bought Fox Wolverine fought Predator and Avengers battled Aliens, at least.
to be fair I still don't care about gotg. They are the most out of place franchise within marvel with the weakest roster(of heroes not actors) who seemingly only got picked up to have deep tie-ins and back lore to space and thanos
@@klobe9fair, you don't, but they were a great addition to the MCU. They blow up the weirdness of the MCU opening the door for any shit to happen after. @PhysPushscale yeah that was funny as hell. Like dude it was put there just for you in the first place. Because "journalists" aren't gamers, they are failed writers who simply found any job and watching them play is truly painful.
I mean if the game is good it doesn't matter if they don't have new heroes to add also there will be so many heroes before they run out that it doesn't matter
LOLOLOLOL. Riot games released League of Legends with 40 champions. It now has over 130 and still continues to be one of the most popular games out there. I can reason with someone claiming there are too many champions for a new player that joins NOW, but this is a joke.
League has too many champions. I play the game from the start, if I wanted to get back into it now, I would not want to because there would be too many new heroes and most of the old ones I like are now obsolete. They're just making champions that are old champion + 13 new things for no reason, just crazy power creep. Copy paste champion + dash + lifesteal and make them all girls so we can sell catgirl and popstar skins. Marvel Rivals actually have fun abilities. I don't even follow Marvel stuff, never was into superheroes, but this game is good. Plus League has itemization, and items change all the time, so I can't just jump into the game, I have to follow guides first otherwise I'll have a horrible time with bad default recommended items. I feel like Marvel Rivals just got rid of all this redundancy with itemization and punishment for death. Death should be enough of a punishment for dying, not rewarding the enemy with more power so the game is even more one sided and people go afk and then I have to sit through an obviously lost game.
@lemonstealinghorse This is a skill issue. MOBAs regardless of how many changes happen to them, they all revolve around the same thing. If you're a veteran like you claim, when a new item is added, just by looking at the stats and you'd already know which champions fit the item. Same goes for new champs, you read their skills and you can already figure out which item fits them. How good you are will always depend on how much time you put into them. MOBAs always have high learning curves to get into, but once you're in, it's easy to get the hang of it.
@lemonstealinghorse Casual gamer spotted. Nothing wrong with that, but don't hate on competitive games because they reward the better player lol. Having items and gold also balances out team diffs, as if you're good enough you just steamroll everyone. (If I play in Gold/Silver I can maintain 90% WR very easily, if a pro-player plays in Diamond/Master, they can maintain probably around 75-80% wr) (I do agree with your take on recent champs being too mobility-crept and weeb-bait though)

I wasn't complaining about being crushed, was I? No it doesn't. Literally just look at Marvel Rivals, no high learning curve. These Urinalists are crazy. "Yeah they released all characters at once, that's bad. Release half of them now and add them one by one to make it more popular." and other than being absolutely anti-consumer and out of context, they are a little right? Like the idea that people LIKE having new heroes added like every few weeks. But still, the roster is by no means overfilled nor is Marvel Rivals running out of things to add. After all, Deadpool is already basically guaranteed to be added soon^tm.
The ONLY point I could MAYBE see this article having is that the game is a little front-loaded - a lot of the big-name characters were in there on Day 1. While Marvel still has a whole multiverse of characters to choose from, putting the most popular ones in from the start means they might have to go further afield later on and fans might not be super interested in later seasons.
"There's too much game in this game! How dare you actually give me my money's worth! I DEMAND you strip this down until its a barely functional MVP like every other live service game, then make me pay an arm and a leg for every tiny scrap of extra content!" Seriously... Modern "AAA" and F2P fans are just sad to watch. Like a brow beaten spouse who can't help but go back to their abusive ex over and over.
If they wanted to argue this route there’s only one stable argument, and that is over working ppl to get a lot of content out, but clearly that’s not what they are talking about
With so much talk about "we're making a games for everyone" that modern studios and journalists want to push, they really don't like when a game actually is for everyone. "They're adding too many characters" oh sweet, sounds like there will be some representation for everyone. Isn't this what the journalists wanted?
To be clear, the article is written from the standpoint of "There's not enough content being artificially held back for future DLC and battlepasses in order to artificially extend the games lifecycle by releasing the content when hype starts dying down" It's basically complaining that it's not using the same live service strategy all the other live service games use, and instead is frontloading the game with boatloads of content, from what I can tell of the article. This is despite the fact that because Marvel as a setting is ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE with the amount of things they already have, they can afford to both frontload it like this AND have future content.
We don't even have - Black Cat, Domino, She hulk, Wasp, Electra, Enchantress, MsMarvel, Rogue, Jean Gray, Nebula, Gamora, Quasar, Klea, Satana, white Valkyrie , Titania, X23, Emma Frost, Kitty Oride, america Chaves, Sif, Mystique , Black Swan, Medusa, Gwenpool, Lady Deadpool, White Tiger, Songbird, MoonLight, Silk, Viper, Jessica Jones, SpiderGwen, MaryJane, Angela , proxima midnight, 9999.. X-women, venom girls, Spider girls.. And tons and tons of unique costumes for them...
I think it was a thirst comment, lol. Still hits the point. Those are all women, and that's a lot of new content to add. Each coukd easily pair up with an unnamed male coubter part and then that's more character content.@ShannaraTech
It’s so funny how they forget about the circa 500 characters associated with spider-man, Just Spider-Man characters could supply the game with new content for years
Its kinda true because when marvel starts putting the second human torch (the original one that fought namor the submariner) in the game, people will think they ran out of content because they are rehashing the same characters. Even though those two are different, they arent different enough. People will still play but i think it will reach a colossal drop off point after the "new toy effect" wears off.
MSM games journalists are full of it and have been for a while. Having "too much content" isn't really a problem for a brand new game (or any game) that's doing really well.
Bro, these idiot journalists are complaining they aren't milking the system?!?! ITS THE ONLY REASON I BOTHERED TO PLAY, because I wasn't being forced to play 1 of 4 characters.
What the hell are they talking about, X-Men alone could probably double the roster, Fantastic Four, Blade, more avengers and I'm only thinking on the _hero_ side the villain gallery is equally rediculous.
marvel rivals is not something like other hero shooters or mobas that have original characters, rivals has already known and established characters so players actually prefer if their favorite heroes are already in the game
Tbh I don't know 80% of them, I know very little about Marvel, and the ones I knew weren't for me. Ended up liking Scarlet Witch the most, never heard of her before.
@lemonstealinghorse yeah, that's fair, not everybody's gonna know most of the superheroes, it's just that it's better to start with plenty of popular and non-popular superheroes right from the beginning than not as marvel fans would most likely be familiar of them and they would expectedly prefer that to be the case
@lostboy3542 Yeah agreed, but really I don't think there are too many heroes anyway. People usually like to stick to a role, and when you really look at it there's a handful of choices per role, duelists being most numerous I believe. My main hope is that they don't just release for the sake of releasing, but they do stuff which feels different in a meaningful way. I hope old ones don't become obsolete
My only issue with the game is that out of 33 characters, there's some how less than 10 support/healer characters. Of the 21 from OW's launch, there was 4. But unlike MR, it had 4 subdivisions of classes(Offense, Defense, Tank, Support). In other words, my issue is class balance.
"They can't capitilize on new characters because they already gave us those characters!" It reads like someone getting mad that pharma companies can't spueeze more money out of you because they already gave you a free dose. What the hell? They're complaining that it didn't take them longer to add the characters they wanted
I can agree to an extent. They have a ton of hero's yeah, but they're not distributed appropriately. Got like 6 tanks and 20ish damage hero's. Hopefully the new ones fix that.
@@LemonLime-k3o True. For example, Most of the symbiotes play exactly the same so theres no point adding all of em. My heart sank when they added Anti Venom as a low grade skin tho
Ive played rivals almost every day since it released and have only used about 10 characters. Now, I try to use a new one every so often and it's always fun, even if i lose, cause it forces me to out of my comfort zone. I can't wait for even more characters and I know there are lots of great ones left in the marvel roster (I'm looking at you deadpool)
Even if they never added characters which they could do. They could still release new costumes and retool the meta so people gravitate to different the characters in the new seasons. They could even associate character abilities with costumes so that it plays differently depending on the costume you pick.
Marvel Rivals starting roster had Squirrel Girl. Squirrel Girl! Don’t get me wrong, I love her as a character, but she’s had like 1 major appearance outside the comics, she’s pretty obscure to most people and they already love her. If they can get an obscure character on their initial roster and get people to love them almost instantly, they aren’t gonna be hard up for content, just think of all the cool powers and designs they have to work with! Dreamwalker, Awesome Andy, Vapor, just to name a few, and they have thousands! Marvel Rivals uphill battle is more likely having all these characters mechanics play nice with each other in such a chaotic game.
They are just mad that a game that is actually complete and doesn’t have forced DEI in it is actually successful rather than a game broken on release with no features and has toxic people in it everyone hates that sprouts their agenda.

@@TapiKoks and you can hard counter Scarlett with hela. I love how the game has checks and balances, as long as your team uses more than one braincell, it's easy to adapt to the situation. Of course they added all of the big name characters first, doing that draws attention to the game when you get to play as your favorite super heroes, but by adding smaller character they have more room to innovate with them, I'd argue the did that with Moon Knight and Hela (still two pretty big characters, but relatively small in comparison to the others) by making them pretty popular choices.
i kind if get where the article is coming from, If marvel rivals continues to be successful for years and add more and more characters, it will be incredibly difficult to balance so many characters, a great example of this is a mobile game called marvel contest of champions, it has over 300 characters and still adding more each month while there are other characters that havent been updated in years, hopefully net ease can handle a massive roster
Honestly, I’d love to see Rivals add in completely new, original characters alongside the existing ones. The fact that the game is based on multiple universes colliding means that they could make an entire separate marvel universe with only new characters to create even more unique stories.

But let's see how this evolve.

over 130 sounds like there are less then 140 but there are 169 champs right now
League has too many champions.

It's basically complaining that it's not using the same live service strategy all the other live service games use, and instead is frontloading the game with boatloads of content, from what I can tell of the article.
This is despite the fact that because Marvel as a setting is ABSOLUTELY MASSIVE with the amount of things they already have, they can afford to both frontload it like this AND have future content.

Its kinda true because when marvel starts putting the second human torch (the original one that fought namor the submariner) in the game, people will think they ran out of content because they are rehashing the same characters.

At least Squirrel Girl was in comics since the 80th. Luna Snow's major appearance before MR was Korean gatcha game from 2019.
@@DrNiradino Can't wait for Koi Boy.
Do not confuse all of this goodness for bloat or filler. Marvel Rivals is at least 90% meat and 10-ish % sauce.
They are just mad that a game that is actually complete and doesn’t have forced DEI in it is actually successful rather than a game broken on release with no features and has toxic people in it everyone hates that sprouts their agenda.
League has like hundreds of champions, which to anyone trying to jump into the game now would seem like 'too much content all at once.'
and league is most unbalanced piece of shit game but still rocks on top, delusional comparison, non the less in marvel rivals all characters are accessive at once
Overlooking the fact they brough in some not-so-popular characters, like Jeff, Luna Snow, Peni Parker Magick and Cloak And Dagger. They still have some big names to add that will definately keep the game popular for a few years still.
I would say not-well-known characters instead. The popularity of these characters comes from their presentation and execution. And with characters like Luna Snow, oh my.
@@MassKezEffect6 yeah Luna Snow is great. Looks great, plays great, can carry the team. Maybe not as well as that Jeff mofo does, but Jeff doesn't have dat ass.
Jeff was the most popular character. more popular than spiderman. you must be living in different universe.
“there is less potential for future additions, and some of its biggest names can’t be capitalized on because they’ve been here the entire time.”
Ant-Man, Blade, Cable, Captain Marvel, Carnage, Charles Xavier, Daredevil, Deadpool, Doctor Octopus, Drax, Dr. Doom, Electro, Electra, Falcon, Gambit, Gamora, Ghost, Green Goblin, Gwenpool, Howard the Duck, Kang the Conqueror, the Kingpin, Kraven the Hunter, the Mandarin, Ms. Marvel, Morbius, Mysterio, Nebula, *Nick Fury,* Nightcrawler, the Lizard, the Prowler, Quicksilver, Ronan the Accuser, Red Skull, the Rhino, Rouge, Sabertooth, Scorpion, Shang-Chi, She-Hulk, Shocker, Spider-Man 2099, Spider-Man (Miles Morales), Spider-Gwen, the Spot, Thanos, Vision, the Vulture, the Wasp, War Machine, Ultron, X-23, Yondu, and of course The Big Wheel.
These are just the popular or well known ones, and literally several years-worth of characters. Marvel is not running out of them anytime soon.
(also if you play a full team of spider-man villains you should get an achievement called “Sinister 6”).
How could they forget the Big Wheel. Goated design
They even implemented a hard counter to tripple tank/support groups in Wolverine, making sure that the tank meta that killed Overwatch will never happen in their game.
And u can hard counter Wolverine with Scarlett Witch.
@@TapiKoks and you can hard counter Scarlett with hela. I love how the game has checks and balances, as long as your team uses more than one braincell, it's easy to adapt to the situation. A loss is usually because the other team was better, not because they had some bullshit like overwatch does with some of their meta strats that caused overwatch to be dogshite in the first place.
The type of guy who would prefer 8 characters in a fighting game and have the rest as paid DLC.
no type of guy who plays CSGO only since birth. Married to CSGO. will die for csgo.
6 is enough to form a team. 2/2/2
@@JesiAshyeah and 5 are dps lol
You should watch the video on CoD running in the background even when you close to desktop, apparently to inflate playtime numbers for shareholders. It also means that you can't get a refund, because your playtime is artificially increased past the return policy limit.
Let's point out all of the main mcu characters that aren't in the game yet.
Ant-Man
Wasp
War Machine
Drax
Captain Marvel
Shang-Chi
Whoever any of the eternals are
Jane Foster
Ms Marvel
Deadpool
And that's not including villains (Rivals 100% needs playable doom, thanos, ultron etc.)
Don’t forget Dracu- oh wait he’s already coming to the game!
we haven't even gotten into xmen either
The internet will lose its mind when they get to Rogue
tho i kinda do get their point. Some characters will be obsolete, there are several paladins characters who have been left in the dust forgotten for years because they werent meta. so while marvel wont run out of characters, they will run out of... space. immagine youre a newbie and 7th match in the row, yet you havent played against the same character twice, you get confused and quit, or the balancing goes out of the window and the character you like, simply goes obsolete and forgotten, never to recieve a bug fix or a patch. I havent played paladins for like 5 years, recently i hopped in and played pip, its excatly as i remember him to be, no nerfs. no buffs, noone else ever picks him, no new skins, nothing.
“Marvel Rivals has too many heroes for its own good.”
Me: “I am sorry. Say that AGAIN!!!” 😡
"and some of its biggest names can't be capitalized on because they've been here the entire time."
Jeff the Shark: A Marvel character most people didn't even know existed but quickly became an all time favorite (or hated💀) among the community
Journalist see this happen and still think that Marvel Rivals will run out of characters to be capitalized on? Are they fr 😭💀
This people can't be real humans.. If they release a feature packed game its too much it they don't its not enough. jesus christ
Basically, it's more coping.
Mmmh
I think they’re mad cuz the characters are appealing and the game is cool
As someone who plays Marvel Snap, they will not run out of characters to add.
Meanwhile Multiversus is slowing fading into obscurity because despite having the library of Warner Bros behind them, they don't release ENOUGH content to keep players hooked.
I stopped playing because they were gready af
fighting games will always be niche. shooter games is so easy and simple. 2nd amend.
Even in carnivals/arcade people love to play shooter not the fighting games.

With Fantastic 4 Marvel Rivals got 37 characters. Add those listed above and you have more than Overwatch.
Have they seen league of legends? Theres nearing 200 characters to play and the game still manages to keep the same balance
I haven't played Overwatch or Marvel Rivals, so I'm unclear as to how specifically new heroes are usually added.
So correct me if I'm wrong, but is this guy complaining that he doesn't have to pay for as much new content because there's shitloads front and center at launch?
Of course they added all of the big name characters first, doing that draws attention to the game when you get to play as your favorite super heroes, but by adding smaller character they have more room to innovate with them, I'd argue the did that with Moon Knight and Hela (still two pretty big characters, but relatively small in comparison to the others) by making them pretty popular choices.
dota 2 has had 110 plus heroes on release vack in 2013
102 on release (2013) Followed by 3 more in the same year.
But surprisingly, they've only added 19 more heroes over the 10 years.
Oh nyo the new game released “too much content for free on launch instead of drip-feeding characters for money”
Thanks. That’s a really great ad
i kind if get where the article is coming from, If marvel rivals continues to be successful for years and add more and more characters, it will be incredibly difficult to balance so many characters, a great example of this is a mobile game called marvel contest of champions, it has over 300 characters and still adding more each month while there are other characters that havent been updated in years, hopefully net ease can handle a massive roster
It's like these journalists are allergic to getting W's. They're almost equally as allergic to getting past the tutorial though.
Oh no... Anyway, I'm looking forward to play both FF and Dracula in rivals 😁
Honestly, I’d love to see Rivals add in completely new, original characters alongside the existing ones. The fact that the game is based on multiple universes colliding means that they could make an entire separate marvel universe with only new characters to create even more unique stories.
League of Legends has 169 champions...
Gaming Journalism is akin to Legacy Media. Both are inept.
I see Blizzard is blowing what ever budget they have left on paying people to talk bad about Rivals 😭
i am addicted to asmongold now
A franchise about super heroes adding super heroes to their game is bad
