thanks emily! I think I'm more or less on the same page with regard to these trends! I try to wear clothes that suit my personality. There are a lot of things that I find beautiful as an item in itself (such as biker jackets, or more masculine pieces, or very bold items) but once I start wearing them, there is just a mismatch between what I as a person portray, and what my clothes say. And that's when clothes end up wearing you instead of the other way around.
The thing about the trends is that we get to pick and choose only those that we like. The ones I really love are the wider jeans waist high, draped silhouettes, denim on denim and bold pops of color.
Love love love your channel! I agree about preferring fitted jeans to relaxed jeans! I think fitted jeans are a lot more versatile for different types of shoes. I also have a deep hatred of any bunching around my ankles when I wear jeans and I feel like that’s more easily avoided with fitted jeans. I get that looser jeans are more comfortable but I think the key is finding the right pair of fitted jeans that has a bit of give in the fabric.
Yes I completely get you. It's definitely about finding a comfortable pair, and growing into your jeans too! I've found a lot of my 100% cotton jeans are just getting better and better over time. xx
I totally agree that not all fashion trends suit all people. Just because something comes in your size does not mean it will necessarily suit you. Having said that, I'm all for 'you do you' motto. I'm petite, but I prefer longer skirts on myself than shorter ones. Not into embellished jeans, ever. Relaxed denim just makes me look like I'm wearing my fellas jeans by mistake. So, not flattering on me at all 😅 I like the look of ballet flats, but they cause me a lot of foot discomfort. Love vests, as you stated, Emily, so many ways to style them. I have some sheer pieces in my wardrobe, I only ever use them as layering items. Definitely not a fan of the exposed nips and knickers look! 😮 😅 Great video, thank you ❤
Absolutely yes for denim maxi skirts. They are fun and can be creative. I have made a couple for this year and they are quite cute. Not sure why people say they are uncomfortable and heavy….they are not! But a no from me on the double denim, just never found pieces that I felt went together and always felt like I was trying too hard. And I like cargo pants in any material. I prefer a wide leg or trouser style pant, especially in linen. Don’t care if they are in style, I always wear them. Always hated skinny jeans.
I love denim skirts. I have 4 and enjoy wearing them ❤️ They are comfortable if they have some stretch in them. I also think the key is getting good quality denim. If it’s cheap, it’s no wonder some people might not like them.
I'm just tired of seeing the same style and colour over and over, I for some reason have 3 and I'm only starting to wear them out but because I gathered them over the years, none of them are straight fit with a front split in medium wash blue which is the one most stores are producing. I saw a white one of those and I'm intrigued though.
Double denim is way too 70s for me. We used to wear denim head to toe, it was like a uniform. The styling hack was a hairbrush in one of the breast pockets of your Wrangler jeans jacket. Handle sticking out. For girls, the boys sported a packet of Buckaneer tobacco and a lighter. I still remember the smell. Tobacco, smelly clothes and teenage sweat. 😊 Thanks for a great video Emily.
Great video! I have to admit I'm loving the return of 90's/ Y2K trends- mostly. 😉 I agree on the denim maxi skirts. I realized while watching your section on sheer pieces, that I have a midnight blue faux slip dress, with sheer top inset and hem. Thanks for inspiring me to shop my own closet! 😊
Love maxi skirts - but not denim! Really like waistcoats ( suit vests) and am pleased to see them having a moment! Always up for white on white - have been wearing winter white layers and textures all winter in the UK, and can’t wait to get my summer whites out!
Well for me I love the vests, very vintage like Marlene Dietrich and Diane Keaton, I would wear a black moto jacket to channel my inner Marlon Brando (The Wild One) I actually have a sheer overdress that I wear over another dress or even pants. I would wear denim on denim if I find a top jacket or vest second hand. White on white is lovely and I have pieces but I usually get coffee or whatever on it. I really enjoyed your insights and I love how you shared so many different body types with each trend. Can’t wait to see your next video ❤
So glad you like them 🥰 I kinda wish I did because I do think they can look pretty cool sometimes … and the more I see them, the more my mind is swayed 🙈🙈😋
I agree with you on most of your takes on these trends. I feel that some of these trends are cheesy and definitely not wearable for my 76 year old self.
This video was AMAZING! Thank you so much for how much you put into this - now I know what's on trend, but I also don't feel like I need to buy anything new either haha!! Love your videos xx
So with you on denim skirts. No way. I like the look of suit vests but I'm going to stick with knitted vests. Really enjoyed your point of view, thanks.
I would love to see a video of you actually trying on the trends you love or hate and style them with your existing pieces… see if you change your mind about any of the trends 🤷🏻♀️ enjoyed the video 😊
I really enjoyed this video Emily! I just hate the denim skirt trend too. 😁I am a lot older and I did wear it years ago when it was trending and hated it. It is really uncomfortable and makes so much noise. Same with too baggy jeans in my opinion. I do have straight leg jeans that are a bit loose. I prefer to keep the wide-leg fit for trousers which I love. I have a few pairs and they are so effortless and comfortable. I love my ballet flats. I do not own a pair like the mary jane style and will not buy any as I own enough flats already. I alternate between my ballet flats and loafers. In summer, I wear sandals, espadrilles or sneakers. I prefer the ballet flats with cropped trousers and jeans.
@@EmilyElizabethMay Thank you for your kind comment Emily! You are so sweet! Your videos are so helpful! I surely got some great inspiration from you along the way! 🥰 Love these colors on you! 😍
I don't like long denim skirts they look like iron boards to me 😂 so flat and heavy... Another trend I don't like is the moto inspired trend, I agree with you, it looks costume like.
Hello! I thought it was just me. It's a big NO to the patchwork and the denim cargo pants. As for the denim maxi skirt, I was around the first time. Wore mine back in the late 90s. The last time I wore it was in a pic with my then newborn in the early 2000s. Will also pass on that one. I've never stopped wearing ballet flats. Love them. Love the monochromatic looks in many colors. As for the other trends, I'll probably pass on and stick with classics. 😀
I have to be honest, the trends are getting worse by the minute. Or maybe I’m getting too old for trends. I can’t see myself wearing none of these trends 😩
So many of the trends are very heavily 90s inspired at the moment. Don’t worry, stick to classics, luckily you don’t have to adopt trends to have good personal style 😌😋❤️ x
I love denim! No to relaxed denim, Denim is already a casual looking piece... I fear it runs the risk of looking dishevelled and too undone... That baggy crotch look is not my thing, It also doesn't drape well so I don't see the point. I'd rather keep that overly relaxed look to tailored wide leg flowy trousers. Maybe to denim skirts, I have a couple around the length you showed in the title card but I thought that was midi/midaxi since I had one of my "maxis" shortened as I thought it looked like an massive unmoving block of denim on my bottom half. Mine are also flared/Aline. However in the last 10+ years...I only wore one out 3 weeks ago, I wanna wear them more though, seems better for summer. yes to double denim (I've been wearing jackets and jeans forever), I've been thinking of a shirt and jeans, now that I have other jackets that aren't blue denim (before I would have been wearing a 3 piece suit of blue denim lol... 👀 Actually I should try that) Maybe to detail denim I have a patchwork one (with raw edges on each patch!😁) I might wear out this year... However it confuses me as I'm wondering how versatile it is in terms of styling, its also a mom jean both of these are new to my wardrobe styles and I'm wondering what I was thinking, however I've been discovering the joy of getting familiar with strange silhouettes and ignoring my initial thought to let go of things that don't look like what I already have (and know how to style)... I might go for another kind of detail instead of patchwork if I don't like it. I also love cargo, but when something is trending they always overdo it into datedness, I would pick a minimalist cargo style, one or two pockets on a straight or wide leg flowy trouser. There seems to be a million trends going on at the same time with the cargos. Never been into ballet flats, I like ½- 1 inch or so of flat sole on my shoes. Ballets feel like walking on flat ground and sometimes leather is too thin and doesn't hold its round/almond toe shape, they make me think my feet is ugly when I previously thought they look just fine in other shoes.
Ha yes! High waisted tapered mom jeans are still "traumatizing" 😀to me. We were mocked relentlessly by our kids for how frumpy we looked in our "mom jeans" in the 90's. . And looking back I agreed! They still look like a giant diaper or like an old man w his pants pulled up to his chest to me😂Happy to see all the mid rise jeans that can hang out casually on our hips like (actual) original 501's did-yay🎉
I only just got a mom jean last year and I still haven't worn it, when it trended years ago I was very confused and thought the fashion industry was having a laugh and trying to trick people into buying skinny jeans but calling them something else, I was like... Those are just baggy skinny jeans, why are people raving about them?😅😂 Now I'm old and well versed in denim enough to notice what the difference is.
I have tried many times over years to try and like the denim skirt as I love the look on others, but it never works for me. I find it too heavy and stiff.
I’m not a big fan of any of the denim looks that are trending. I’ve never liked denim skirts in general. I’ve always found them to be stiff and uncomfortable. Some of the other trends can be adapted to real life, like sheer sleeves on a top or more fitted cargo pants. It is a hard pass for me on the ballet flats too. I’ve never liked the look. 🤷♀️
Yep we feel the same about denim skirts!! I know ballet flats are a hard no for so many people too, you're not alone on that. Thanks for watching and sharing! xo
Agree to both. Demin maxi skirt makes most people look shapeless. If there is so much denim on the bottom, I would just wear jeans which is a lot easier to move than the maxi skirt version. Ballet flats are hard to feel comfortable and easy to make people look stump if one is not tall and skinny.
@@EmilyElizabethMay Hi there, thank you for taking the time to read and answer. At my age about everything is from my past lol!... About patterns, I appreciate them in others, but on me, it almost makes me anxious, go figure! the furthest I'll go is stripes and lumberjack shirts...sometimes
