We are in Korea. My wife is very pregnant, not Korean. On public transport there are seats for pregnant women. We always have to ask people to stand and let my pregnant wife sit. They never offer that seat willingly. On buses, bus drivers dont wait for her to sit, they accelerate hard, dont care if a pregnant woman falls. She also has 1 child in a pram. Drivers DELIBERATELY stop far from the curb making it very difficult to get a pram on or off a bus. They NEVER offer to help. Scooters are constantly riding fast on sidewalks. 2 times they nearly hit our child. Welcome to Korea.
That's a big sum for middle-class families where both parents have to work full-time to maintain their houses, living expenses, children/babies expenses and social commitments, etc.
Maybe they all should just do the house keeping jobs instead. Most mothers want to be with their children it would only be natural to leave the chores for someone else to do if it was possible.
Shortening working hours will do nothing. The root is out of control housing costs, which the government (and not just in Korea) deliberately pumps up in price in order to subsidize the real estate sector. Why don't Koreans want to be an 'au pair' to a family? Isn't there a shortage of jobs for young people in Korea? I am not sure why they need to import labour, these look like pretty decent jobs if you get a nice family and are treated well.

Aside from the high cost of living and low wage, those Filipinas came as caregivers, but most of them ended up being treated as domestic helpers.
exactly. Also, the treatment they received from Korean who are known to be looking down to brown-skin people (ahem, SEA) became an issue.
