It gets really tough to get back into language learning after a long break. I once felt like, language learning is just a waste of time, just because I couldn't see any progress. I took a break to refresh my mind. And when I changed my mind to get back into language learning, it became hard for me to do it. I realized that I was missing one thing― CONSISTENCY! And that's what I gained when started language learning after a break of a few months. Loved the video Shea!
"You don't have to study language the way people tell you to" so true! I wanted to improve my English, and I took a workbook (like in school) and I hated it, I didn't improve it at all. Then I just continued watching videos in English (without the intention of improving the language, it was just for fun) and I improved it drastically. Now I'm trying to learn Italian... I really love your videos!
How did you know I had taken a break? :) Thanks for all your tips. Love your language videos. I def need to figure out a plan. Maybe after the holidays!
Very important your video because some people think that when you stop learning a language it's only bad. But doing a break several months of learning is a huge opportunity for your brain to rest and during this time you can just make a test on yourself and see how many skills do you remember.
I needed something like this!! Sometimes it is difficult to study a language if there is no plan, this is very important as well, learning a language is a process and sometimes that process needs a plan... Thank you, Shea!! ;) I'm gonna restart the Italian language... you motivate me :)
What you’re saying about a huge monthly plan is so true! It can be so overwhelming and I skipped so many days that I became unmotivated and I haven’t done Japanese in around 2 years because of that. Thanks so much these tips are great!
Another great video Shea! I also started a RUclips channel just so I could look back and see my progress with French over time. I am relearning French after a very long break.
Thank you for these helpful tips. These tips are also useful for studying a language day by day....watching movies in your target language, having a speaking partner and so on.
I have sometimes taken breaks from learning Chinese because I have been busy with Uni and work but watching netflix shows and speaking to my taiwanese and chinese friends, motivates me to get back to work and improve my chinese. I feel like taking breaks isn't bad, so long as you make sure that in the long-term, you are improving.
thanks for the tips! you motivated me to practice my Spanish. I finished an online course and I don't want to forget what I 'v learned already :) looking forwards to more vidos.
Thanks for the tips Shea! 💖I was forgetting how to speak in english but now I'm brushing it up and I'm liking more the language, I'll be watching your videos in order to improve my listening skill☺️
YES I NEEDED THIS! Even though for me it’s only been a few weeks (I had to study hard before a huge testing week), I totally need a few techniques and tips to get back on track! Thank you so much, Shea! Love your channel so much! ❤️
It's always hard to restart language studying after New Years Holidays! One of the bullet points of December bucket list - rewatch my favorite videos of Shea Jordan))) What is more motivational?)))
Yes, when I'm home with family and celebrating the holidays, I usually forget to study! Hehehe I'm glad you enjoy my videos and that they motivate you! I'm excited to make a lot more for the New Year!
Hi Shea! I'm learning Spanish and I also have a foodie page on Instagram. I wanted to better connect with great food makers in my hometown of Queens, NY! In the new year, I am going to focus on Latin America - that will give me more of a push to keep improving my Spanish. Thanks also for letting us know that you don't have to know much to get on italki - I've been studying for months and still feel like I can't say much, haha...
Your choice of topics is so good , you're a smart and a beautiful girl ❤️ t I studied frensh before but I stopped for a time and now I'll work with your advice and I'll continue , thank you so much 🌺🌺
Is there someone could live without breathing? Ofcorse no . So as with me I can't live without speaking or listening to an English video everyday ,🌷❤ English is my second language ❤🌷
What was the longest break you ever taken from language learning? 🤔
French from 1994/95 to 2012 and then I reactivated it to this day hoping to reach a B2 level.
2 and 1/2 years!
right now 2 months 😭
Wow!!
That’s ok! I stopped Italian for about 4 months but got back into it!
"You don't have to study language the way people tell you to" YES
Truth!!!! It's one of the most important things I've learned!

Yes! This is something I've discovered during self study. I also tried to start with a workbook and there are so many more effective ways to learn :)

Great tips!
I believe that you never really forget a language you studied well, it just gets rusty
I hate it so much when it gets rusty, cuz I have put so much effort into learning it haha
It is necessary to take a break but need to keep in mind to get back and track your progress and more importantly, never lose motivation.
YESSSS. I NEEDED THIS!!!. GRAZIE!!! :)
