You know I never knew that there were different ticks!! Our cat always has them on him and I thought they came from the wood but no as my husband had a tick twice this week and he wasn’t near any woods. Yuck. Garden is looking great!! ❤❤

Hi, after you pull all the weeds you can sprinkle a preen preemergent to kill the weed seeds.

Ticks are horrible here in mid Michigan. I wear long pants sleeves and tall boots when I garden. I’ve seen so many ticks. Love my garden not so much the bugs.

Ugh, poison ivy....i have been pulling it up in my yard for over 20 years, no problem. UNTIL.....last weekend. I pulled it all off the fence as usual and within hours, I was covered with rashes all over my arms, hands and thighs. The rash turned to blisters within a day. It has been so painful and extremely itchy, its crazy. So even if you're someone that has never had a reaction still take all precautions when dealing with it as you could have a reaction this time. A week later and the blisters are now finally starting to turn into scabs and still itch like crazy plus it looks so bad. I am however very grateful it did not get into my eyes or on my face. Also i learned that the oil stays on your tools for years if you do not clean the properly. Your clothes must be washed in hot soapy water. Your dog or cat can also be a carrier, if the oil gets on their coat and you pet them it transfers to you. So be sure to give your pet a bath using rubber gloves. Sorry so long just hoping others may learn from my terrible experience. But still grateful because it could have been much much worse. Blessings and stay away from poison ivy.....it means business. 😂😂

I tried putting tea tree oil on the rash once and it dried up by the next day and wasn't itchy any more. That is my go-to if I accidentally get some on me.

Jes, we treat our yard for ticks every spring. We have 30 acres of wood behind us. So every critter comes with that. What we use is a spreadable granulated substance. It’s purchased at Lowe’s.
How you remember all the names of the hostas! At times, I can’t remember my name.

All of your gardens are so beautiful. Your love for these gardens definitely shows through. Hope you, Nate and Max have a great weekend. God bless and take care.

I should watch for ticks here in GA but it’s snakes I’m petrified of & nearly kill myself trying to get away when I see one. (we live on a small lake with woods across the lake & to the right. )I’m always walking around so cautious it almost ruins the joy of gardening. ( so far I’ve seen a big black snake but also a cotton mouth.)
I told my husband our next move needs to not be so close to all this nature!😁Also I’m finding my endurance is not what it used to be in the garden with the humidity & heat we have here in GA. I have to take a lot of breaks but a little bit goes a long way & I always get a good sense of accomplishment at the end of the day. Thank heavens my yard is finally at a point to where there is no need for anymore big projects…just upkeep, which is definitely enough. lol

Watch out for those brown/black roots with no leaves that grow on top of the ground, some of them are poison ivy. I have pulled them up only to find ivy leaves on the other side of the garden bed. No kidding. So far this year there is only one spot on my leg. I get poison ivy every year.

I have my property sprayed for ticks and mosquitoes by a pest control company every 3 weeks during Spring, Summer, and Fall. I did this years ago after coming in from just walking or mowing and finding ticks on me.

Would it be a partial solution to the "hairy" weed if you gently gathered the stems into a pony tail and used hand pruners to chop them off close to the ground and then transfer the "bouquet" into a bag? Then pull the the root ball out of the ground.

Poison Ivy - put your hand in a zip lock bag and pull the poison ivy out and then turn the back inside out and throw it away. You can also pour boiling hot water on it but be careful of splash back.

Amazing tho the deer keep eating all my hostas, so I know that all have given birth. The fawns are taught to eat these first!
TICKS- UGH ! FINALLY, I let the peacocks out to eat a greater share of these buggers. I get at least 3 to 6 each venture out to gardens.

My body has betrayed me. I really must avoid lifting and bending. My garden bed needed some tender loving care. The weeds bursting purple flowers (because God helped me avoid any HOA letter to clean up) really were masking a disaster of poison everything & ugly weeds. I would stare at it, frustrated. Its 20' x 10' weed filled nightmare, with some scattered plants being smothered. I decided to "fight fire with fire"....best decision ever. You can buy a flame stick, attach a small campstove size propane tank to it and BURN the weeds & their seeds so fast. Standing up, its easy. It AMAZED me. I left a path of dirt and after 7 weeks only 3 weeds sprouted. Again....AMAZING. It's quite cathartic to watch the enemy weeds turn to ashes. Keep some water handy, but I never needed it. In less than 10 minutes I cleared what would have taken an hour to clean up. Plus chance of spreading seeds & poison ivy is zero. No trash left behind.. just ash...back to the soil. Your beds are perfect to flame away any weeds. Maybe Nate has a torch you can try, but you have to bend down to use that. But... once you get the satisfaction of burning the enemy down to its roots, you'll be addicted to it. I can't believe I just discovered it. Get yourself a weed burner.
