We had a lot of great groups like this back in the '70s, we were spoiled by all the classic songs. This was before disco took over and funk and rap and punk and heavy metal.
The O'Jays, Spinners, The Manhattans and the Chi -Lites to name a few. I wish they would make music like that again.
love this song I was 14 when I found it in 1974 I think
I love the Dramatics! This song is a classic, you also should review ‘Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get’ also by them.
This song is so beyond excellent. Makes me go back to being a kid growing up in North N.J.
My song for real I'm a old school child grew up with my mom and aunt and uncles and my cousin and my mom friends putting on a talent show at family gathering
When soul music was at it's best. Go outside in the rain so that he could cry and you can't see the tears running down his face, because of the rain running down his face.
A great, great song from back in the days of love songs and when men could express their emotions in song. He wanted go go outside in the rain so that the rain would hide his tears.
Curtis Mayfield and that's all you need to know. The poet of Soul
Oh, poor Freddie!!
Chicago in the house 🙏
That’s the old school jam right there, That’s probably my favorite Dramatics song. Whoever recommended this song to you made a good choice.
This song was written by Tony Hester. Recently I heard The Dramatics in an old interview say Hester wasn't really a singer but he knew how to get the song across to let the group know what he wanted to hear. He came across and their delivery of it was outstanding. To me *_In The Rain_* sounds like a kind of a pride situation going on with his (the guy that's been hurt) feelings in this song. You Know. A man 'ain't supposed to cry type of thing.
Since he didn't want her to see him crying he wanted to go outside. When he came back in he hoped that either the rain would have washed his tears away or what she saw on his face were raindrops and not teardrops. It was a perfect disguise.
I actually saw this happen firsthand. One rainy night, many years ago, a friend of mine came over to my house and told me he had been walking for miles. Going wherever his steps took him. The reason? He said the woman he was sweet on told him she was getting married to someone else.
Because of the rain when I looked at him I truly could not tell if he had been crying. He probably was because of the pain that was on his face. Had he been crying? To this day, over 20 years later, I'm still not sure.
that’s an interesting story.
it reminds me of that temptations song that came out a little earlier than this, “i wish it would rain”
@@super1970sfan Dig it. I like that one too. Being from Detroit, E. Grand Blvd - Motown is on W. Grand. I went to a Motown Revue in the late 60's. It was Amazing!
@@thewordkeeper you are lucky! wish i was around for those days too😕
PLAY WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET BY DRAMATICS.
The atmosphere they set with this song is something else.
My favorite Dramatics song. This was beautiful.
What you See is what you Get - Dramatics is a phenomenal track
R.I.P. weegee the original lead singer of The Dramatics 🙏🏾
Was he gay?
@@michaelasay6140 🙁
@@Detrimental313 why the fucking mean face...I was just asking a question...u a gay hater?
Yeah, baby, Yeah! It's time to cuddle. Where's my woman at? Hahaha. A truly remarkable group with a string of hits. Good looking out for all us old schoolers.
I just found this reaction video.
I have been wanting to see the Dramatics "In the rain".This is a sad but beautiful song.
One of my staples when we have inclimate weather.
The rain will help to hide their tears.
HI INDIA, NOW THAT YOU'VE LISTENED TO THE DRAMATICS, PLEASE LISTEN TO THE DELLS "THE LOVE WE HAD STAYS ON MY MIND" LIVE VERSION
I like the dells too
They want to go outside so they (men) can try freely without shame! You know the saying that men aren't supposed to cry! But if course that is ludicrous! Men have feelings just like women!
Same sentiment on the Temptations "I Wish it Would Rain"
My favorite group of all times..hands down..
My favorite song by them is "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get".
Probably my favorite song by them as well along with hey you get off my mountain one of their lead singers L J Reynold's is from my hometown of Saginaw Michigan
Check out “Love Won’t Let Me Wait” by Major Harris, that’s a really good romantic slow jam too.
👍😀
The song has orgasms dude.
Yeah, but the live versions shouldn’t
Darth Titanus, true and was likely groundbreaking at the time for that reason. I believe it pre-dated “Love to Love You Baby” by Donna Summer.
Oh yes., what a Classic! If you'd like to stay with this vibe, you may like these... The Dells: 'Does Anybody Know I'm Here'. The Moments: 'I found Love on a Two-Way Street'. Linda Jones: Your Precious Love'. The Chi-Lites: 'It's Time for Love'.
Such a beautiful song. Unfortunately, I had been there a long time ago.😒
Es The musical arrangements of this song are simply excellent.
Loved soul train can't remember the band but like it.
Great old school song!
Great reaction 😉 my Sister. One of great songs of the day, and still Loving it. Another Great Song, Let Me Try by Odds and Ends. Think you will enjoy this, rayray ✊✌️
1971 was a good year for me I was just 15. I can remember slow dancing to this song. A year later myl family moved away, and I lost her forever.
I so glad to see that someone as yourself are listening to old school songs. There was a song by the group The Delfonic ( Think It Over) or by the group The Main Ingredient ( You Been My Inspiration) cool Gooden Jr. dad is one of the lead singer in this group!!!
That's that Quiet Storm R&B Classic Record from The 70s is what In The Rain by The Dramatics. In The Rain pretty much sums it up as to what men go through in shielding their emotions and want to go outside in the rain masking their pain crying without shame. It may sound crazy to some as to why men want to go outside in the rain masking their tears. Keith Sweat also covers this song on his debut album Make It Last Forever in 1987.
Michael Willis....crying would not be socially accepted for some men thus going out in the rain would hide the tears.
@@sheilameyers152 No it's not socially acceptable for men to be crying as its perceived as a weakness. Men are expected to suffer in silence and shame lacking empathy.
@@michaelwillis7832.....that's really a shame... because men should be able to cry....there's nothing like a sensitive man! I always taught my son that it was alright to cry however his dad wouldn't allow crying.
On that episode of Soul Train they did two of there Classics this and What You See Is What You Get.
Keith Sweat also did this song, and this is the first time I've heard of it. Damn, I miss the sound of true soul music!
0:46-yeah, it is
Dramatics I going by the stars in your eyes good jam
You HAVE TO react to Oran “Juice” Jones “The Rain”!!!!!! It’s a good old song and a lot of fun!!!
Oh.....our girl would lose her mind on that crazy stalker drama and infidelity all wrapped up in fab lyrics n nice backbeat!!!!
@@Braedenfish YES!!! 😂🤣😂 That was a jam back in the day, you know India would bop to it! ❤️
The rain hides his tears.
I remember crying in the rain as a kid because my father didn't love me.
Singer Keith Sweat also did this song on his debut album in the early 90s.
The late great William ( Wee Gee) Howard he left his mark on this whatcha see is whatcha get and hey you get off my mountain he also as a solo artist made one the classic all time graduation songs hold to your dreams
More old school soul
Yesss!
Still asking if you would consider doing some girl groups from the 60's? Like The Shangri Las.. You Can Never Go Home Anymore or Walking In The Sand....or The Supremes..or Mary Wells You Beat Me To The Punch? You would love this music🎶🎶🙏🙏🙏💞💞💞💞
Hes embarresed and dont want her to see him crying ..so thats why he wants to go outside in the rain .You cant tell that hes crying...
The rain hides the tears that he cries.
the ol' story...he is in the rain to hide his tears.
Forget about the Snow or the Sun, I wanna go outside, "yeah," in the rain.
Was mostly into Rock when I was a Kid, but always liked the Dramatics (relaxing)
Wee Gee had that Jackie Wilson's afro with a park on the side.. manz could sing.
you have to play what you see is what you get ,dramatics.
Another good hit of the dramatics is toast to a fool
India is grooving!
These groups were the best. You must try some more. How about the Stylistics. They had several great songs. Try 'Betcha By Golly Wow'
He was saying with the raindrops she won't see the tears in his eyes, that's the meaning
The Dramatics had so many great songs...
That was hell of a song.
Old Skool--❤️❤️❤️!!
He wanted to go outside in the rain (with no umbrella) so that no one could tell that he was crying. His face would be wet from the rain.
I was in hi school ....greetings from l.a. ca listen to wat you see is what you get...
Hi, just subscribed to your channel and I don't subscribe to any old channel. I've watched a lot of different 'React to' videos and yours are the best, but they all seem to be reacting to the same music. So I would like to make a suggestion for you if that is ok and you haven't heard them before, there's a big chance you have heard them before. The band is called 'Alabama Shakes' and the lead guitarist & singer is Brittany Howard. 'This feeling', 'Hold on' and 'You ain't alone' are good starters and I think you would like them. If you haven't heard them before but still don't want to do a reaction video I would suggest having a listen off video. Anyway keep up your music journey, you've done a lot of videos and yet you haven't even scratched the surface. Thanks
Great Top Ten Hit. I bought The record ♥️🎼🎶🎵🇨🇦
Late 60s and 70s soul was the best, these guy's could sing, they had some dance moves. And,And they were cleeean as they called it back then. The Delfonics ,the Spinners, the stylistics, theTemps,The Four Tops just to name a few..
These brothers had Style. 😎
That was a very good selection, Try Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get, Oncean Of Thoughts And Dreams, Be My Girl and I Can't Get Over You. Please give your reaction. Thanks.
awesome! the boys can sing....
This actually a little bit of a different type of request. Two videos to react to and compare: 1) Earth Wind and Fire - Boogie Wonderland
2) Disco-Tex and the Sex-O-Lettes - Get Dancin'
Not to get all racial or anything, but the first is "Black people dancing", the second is "White people dancing". Both are high Disco and a lot of fun and really compare and contrast well together!
The Dramatics were one of Stax Records' great acts.
Back in the days ( my days) when music was real music. Love this kind of music. Real Love music unlike today's music.💓💓👏✌️💯
Fantastic song
one of the main influences of Silk Sonic right here...
Great song....India.
THE RAIN HIDES YOUR TEARS
Nice old school slow jam!
This song makes you want a slow drag!
Do A toast to the fool. They went i to the studio and recorded it in one take!
Dramatics done a great version of Me And Mrs Jones which is worth a listen.
Also maybe react to another Old Skool group called Blue Magic, one of their best songs was Sideshow
Yes...Blue Magic...sideshow!
I think you've missed the premise of this song. This song is about a man's pride. His heart is broken and he needs to cry, but his pride as a traditional man won't let anyone see his tears. Therefore, he's hoping it will rain so he can talk a walk and let his tears get hidden with the rain so that he keeps his dignity as a man.
Women process their feelings externally, usually by talking. We men process our feelings internally. Many times, it's described as going into our cave. What many women don't realize is this difference and thus try to go into his cave to bring him out and talk to him. What many women also don't understand is that there's a dragon posted at the door. When they try to enter, the dragon burns them.
There need only wait for him to come out of the cave on his own.
I live this song ♥️
Miss India please react to Billy Steward's "I do love you" and "Sitting in the park "Gangsta hits I listened to in my younger years in Chicago Chi-Town back in the 70's with my gang banging friends enjoy 😎

A little Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, maybe a little Maze featuring Frankie Beverly
Hey. You. Get. Off. My. Mountain. & I. Can.t. Get. Over. You. By. The. Dramatics.. R / b. Classic
The next Dramatics song you should listen to is "Hey You (Get Off Of My Mountain)". "In The Rain" was the first Dramatics song that I heard on the radio. I've been a fan ever since.
I'm not sure if you know this, but Keith Sweat also did this song, and it does sound just as good.
He don't want his girl to see him cry so he went outside in the rain
And something way more recent - Rita Oro "How We Do"
You GOTTA do reactions to some of The Dells songs

I just started watching you reactions. Awesome stuff!
Can you react to Fleetwood Mac-Dreams? There is an "Official Music Video" on RUclips that is actually a live version. It's really good. I would listen to that one first, instead of the studio version. It had 3.8 Million views.
Dontcha' LOVE that 60's Psycodelica?
Stylistics "Stoned in love with u"
Very long time ago

He wants to go outside in the rain because in the rain you can't tell he's cry'n from the broken heart that bitch laid down on him (probably for cheating on her).
