    Shout out to the dad in this movie, he goes through quite the character arch between the two movies from going to a disapproving alcoholic father to a really supportive and caring dad, it’s quite the transformation and a good use of Continuity

    18:36 Apparently Mark turning into a comic has a narrative function to it. Mark has a fear of blood and when Freddy had him previously the second he bleed he woke up, thus by making Mark a comic that bleeds ink he avoids that possibility.

      Not really, it was just meant to add some type of relationship with the nun/Amanda character. The fact he hates her and is scared does add something to the overall character for the this specific film's themes of motherhood. I mean, if he used her spirit to come back, she can also try to defeat him by taking his energy at least temporarily. I never thought i was going to write something like this for a Nightmare On Elm Street film tho. Lol

    What’s annoying about this is Freddy using one of his victims to give birth to him could’ve been a very terrifying concept, if the recent films weren’t so dumb.

    • @boomstickcritique902
      @boomstickcritique902 6 месяцев назад

      The problem with the movie is the direction. They tried to do a more somber slower-paced more dramatic-focused women's issues movie. The direction of this movie was a mistake not in the idea of Freddy using a baby's dreams but in how it was executed. They tried to return the series to its darker roots putting Freddy more in the shadows decreasing his screen time and doing a lower body count. All of this was a mistake at the time because after 3 and 4 audiences wanted the Freddy show. At this point, the Audience wanted Freddy as the star like in 3 and 4. They didn't want less Freddy and a movie that focused on real-life female pregnancy issues. Had this movie kept the tone closer to 3 and 4 gave Freddy more screen time equal to part 4 and had more dream kills this movie would have been a bigger hit. They learned from their mistake with this one and fixed it in Freddy's Dead. Now Freddy Dead is a badly written movie but it is more fun and more entertaining and gave audiences at the time what they wanted which is why it did better. This movie could have kept the exact same plot and idea and it would have worked if they just made the movie more fun like 3 and 4.

    Anybody curious if Freddy Krueger could’ve gone the Chucky path of having a partner in crime like a Bride of Freddy or an actual evil child of Freddy? Art the Clown has The Little Pale Girl and probably in the upcoming Terrifier 3 with Victoria Heyes being a potential Bride of Terrifier. I think some horror villains can work having partners in crime and dynamic evil couple duos. It just depends on execution I suppose.

    • @x-ScaryBerry-x
      @x-ScaryBerry-x 7 месяцев назад +6

      A child could work, but Freddy would probably get pissed if his partner in crime kept stealing the glory.
      E.g. when Jason steals one of his kills in Freddy Vs. Jason.

    • @ParkerCS2
      @ParkerCS2 7 месяцев назад +3

      @@x-ScaryBerry-x yeah. Lol But I bet a Freddy Krueger like child minion probably would know not to piss off his own boss, unlike Jason who was tricked into believing Freddy was his mom because Freddy was in disguise, and went too far into the killing spree. I wonder if there was a miscommunication where Freddy wasn’t clear enough that Jason had killed enough. I don’t know if Jason’s body was possessed because he seemed like a free agent, and if not then how was Freddy communicating with him when he wasn’t asleep?! 🤷‍♂️ It’s just a minor plot hole. But yeah, I think a child minion willingly becoming evil and being Freddy’s accomplice could work. Like imagine a young infant being accidentally left in a burning building and dying, and Freddy meeting his soul in the dream world telling him he can help him have revenge on the teens of Springwood since he’s starting to be pretty lonely only doing the killings by himself. It wouldn’t be a hard set up. Maybe the infant could even have a teen sibling like an older sister that was indirectly responsible for having him burned to death, and him wanting revenge on her too! Many possibilities.

    So would you rather consider this the third and final installment of the “Dream” trilogy or the second and final part of the “Alice” duology? Freddy’s Dead is a completely standalone anthology, same with Freddy’s Revenge which happened before Dream Warriors. So 3,4,5 are the most connected to each other in the original film series of ANOES!

    • @thisisnotachannel
      @thisisnotachannel 7 месяцев назад +3

      I'm positive that part 2 is canon to the rest of the series.
      In fact, up until "Wes Cravens New Nightmare", they're ALL part of the same timeline/canon... and even some after WCNN.
      One of the the biggest pieces of evidence which supports this is a line from part 6 said directly by Freddy, where he lists the ways he has been killed in several of the previous films... including "burning me"... and the only film in which he was ultimately defeated by fire is "Freddys Revenge".
      Then of course, we have Nancy's diary/former house both playing such a key role in that very same film... Then there's the time jump between part 1 and part 3 being the same in the films as it was in real life time... then Nancy in parts 1 and 3... Also there's Kristen, Kincaid, Joey, and Alice being in parts 3 and 4... then Alice being in parts 4 and 5... and the Sister Mary Helena/Amanda Krueger storyline which spanned parts 3, 4, and 5... the list could go on and on.
      Not to mention that every film either takes place entirely in, or is focused around the town of Springwood.
      The official canon timeline for ANoES is
      1: A Nightmare on Elm St.
      2: A Nightmare on Elm St. part 2: Freddys Revenge
      3: A Nightmare on Elm St. part 3: Dream Warriors
      4: A Nightmare on Elm St. part 4: The Dream Master
      5: A Nightmare on Elm St. part 5: The Dream Child
      6: Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare
      7: Jason goes to Hell: The Final Friday (Cameo at the very end, glove and laugh only... but it is confirmed as canon)
      8: Freddy vs. Jason
      The only film which actually stands on its own in a canonical sense is "Wes Cravens New Nightmare". Hell, the demon in that film isn't even Fred Krueger... Just an ancient demon that decided it wanted to LOOK like him.
      Hope this helos end the confusion you seem to be experiencing with the ANoES timeline... Hell, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Halloween aren't much better in regards to convoluted, confusing timelines!

    • @ParkerCS2
      @ParkerCS2 6 месяцев назад +1

      Would you say they overexplained Freddy’s jump to the real world by saying it wasn’t actually Freddy but instead an evil supernatural entity that gets trapped in storytelling, or is your interpretation that it was merely the characters’ theory and it’s still pretty open ended and we the audience can always ponder and debate the reasoning for the events of New Nightmare ourselves? Maybe it’s not actually Freddy but instead “The Entity” character Wes Craven described just cosplaying, or maybe it’s a supernatural type artificial intelligence that became self away and can manipulate reality and also manifested a real version of Freddy Krueger that lets escape from the fictional film series, or it’s really that meta and it’s actually Freddy Krueger from the movies who finds out he’s a movie character and is pissed Hollywood let him lose constantly over and over and wants payback by invading our world starting with attacking the filmmakers and everybody involved with the making of the films. Lol

    • @Replicaate
      @Replicaate 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@ParkerCS2 honestly maybe the reason I like that movie so much is all those theories have merit. I like looking at it as Wes’s reaction to his monster developing a life of his own, and realizing that for all he created Freddy that nobody can control their creations forever, they grow and mutate and change sometimes beyond recognition. Freddy just being another monster archetype from the dawn of humanity’s storytelling tradition is kinda true that way.

    • @ParkerCS2
      @ParkerCS2 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@Replicaate yeah, the movie is really cool for bringing up ideas like that as well as the cool dream/nightmare scenes and also the ancient castle lair at the end of the movie is an unique dimension for this new version of Freddy Krueger to come from. And yes, all the theories I mentioned have merit as the human mind can come up with many scary reasons and ways Freddy isn’t just a fictional character anymore since it’s a horror movie. Also, the fictional version of Wes is just as confused as Heather and is trying to find a “rational” explanation why his creation is actually real and causing the mayhem in the film. Which may be the truth, or just his theory. Who really knows. 🤷‍♂️ Point is, New Nightmare is the second best sequel behind 3, although imo I never really understood the overhyped Dream Warriors as I felt kinda disappointed by it personally. New Nightmare is the better sequel quality and scale wise, but that’s just my opinion. I thought Dream Warriors wasn’t a big as it was hyped up to be. Not a bad movie by any means, but just a disappointment imo!

Nightmare 2 was already a prior standalone sequel with entirely new characters so they should’ve just had that with 4 as well.

    The one thing I remember most about this movie is what you mentioned at the beginning. By 1989 he had become more comedic than scary,and many gore hounds and horror fans hated this. I also remember reading Fangoria at the time and in the articles about part 5 the director promised Freddy would return to being this sinister,dark monster. Well...while the film itself was a bit darker and more mature than part 4,Freddy was still a freakin' goofball. There were some good moments,mainly Dan's death,overall the movie was a letdown.

    Dan's Death by being turned into a 90s body-horror cyborg is amazing and horrific. Makes me think of something like Spawn.
    Its otherwise not a bloody film, more PG-13 than anything.
    Nightmare of Elm Street got weird in Parts 3, 4, 5. Together they could be called the "Dream Trilogy". They have the most continuity between them and have similar plots. If anything it caused a kind of rot as each time they killed Freddy it would be clear he's just on hold.
    I forget if the Doctor Covered it yet but Freddy's Dead was a quick close to the book of Freddy. That one didnt run out of ideas, but just skipped a lot to setup a crossover that took 12 years to make.
    While Robert Englund may be one of the, if not the most well known Slashed film actor, they ran the Nightmare of Elm Street Franchise into the ground.

    Can somebody answer this question for me: Does Freddy need his victims to fear him to hurt and kill their avatars in the Dream World? Nancy in 3 got stabbed by Freddy but she wasn’t afraid of him and he didn’t even try to surprise scare her first by turning back into himself from his disguise as her dad before stabbing her. It was specifically stated in 1 that you have to give Freddy fear energy similar to Pennywise in order for him to hurt your body. IDK the logistics so can someone in the comments give me the rundown on the rules?

    • @DistractedGlobeGuy
      @DistractedGlobeGuy 7 месяцев назад +1

      Almost every installment had a different development team. Producer Bob Shaye was the only constant behind the scenes, and he didn't really care about weaving sone larger narrative. He didn't care that the sequels were consistent, as long as tgere would at least _be_ sequels.

    • @ParkerCS2

      @@DistractedGlobeGuy ok. But answer this: Is the dream world implied in the Elm Street universe to be like a parallel universe rather than dreams just being in your head and are just flashing thoughts that scramble through your mind and create narratives, and you in the dreams are an avatar that can explore it, and it usually reflects what location you are in in real life except for some exceptions, and your mental avatar is basically your consciousness/soul and within the dream world you are just as with free will as real life but usually aren’t aware you’re dreaming unless you are lucid?

    Terrifier 2 did a better job with a child accomplice than Nightmare 5! The Little Pale Girl is a fun evil character as she and Art the Clown have a funny relationship and they are a dynamic duo, and it almost makes it cute. 2 horror villains becoming friends and partners in crime, and despite it coming out of nowhere we don’t question it. They should’ve done something similar instead of Jacob being Alice’s unborn son he’s an evil spirit of a child that tragically died in a fire accident being left by mistake inside a burning building, and him teaming up with Freddy in the Dream world to get payback and willing to have Freddy teach him how to be like him. Would’ve made a better movie.

    • @ParkerCS2
      @ParkerCS2 6 месяцев назад +2

      Also Freddy having an evil child sidekick could’ve also been cool had it been executed well too just like in Terrifier 2 with The Little Pale Girl being Art’s accomplice. I think a good direction for a Jacob type character is if he was a infant that accidentally was killed by being left in a burning building, and when his spirit entered the dream world Freddy offers to help him get vengeance by teaching him how to slice and dice teens as teenagers got the survive whereas he an innocent child was left to the wolves quote on quote, and Freddy becomes his mentor because Freddy is starting to get lonely and bored only doing killings by himself and wants a protege and apprentice to have fun with. Maybe also have the evil kid be burnt too with a similar face to Freddy, and maybe part of his motivation for killing teens is that he himself had a teen older sister that indirectly was responsible for his death and could’ve had a good conflict with this sibling who made a horrible mistake like leaving the house to hang out with a boyfriend for a while instead of staying to babysit her infant brother, and accidentally leaving the stove on or something to result in the chain of events. Also, the film could have a similar tone to Bride of Chucky where it’s campy enough without being too over the top and too comedic.

    I feel like one of the only shooters for this film. And boy oh boy wait until you hear about my undying love of Freddy's Dead!
    Dream Child has some of the most potent atmosphere and creative set and art direction of the entire franchise. The amped up gothic aesthetic just REALLY hits on my horror pleasure centers. It just looks so damn good!
    It's also a little meaner and little nastier than given credit for. The "Joker Freddy" schtick is starting to feel unbalanced for sure, but its offset by an underrated cast of characters that feel like real friends who really like and care for each other - which I think has been the underrated link of this franchise. I think every film in the main series has some of the best and most likeable teen characters of any slasher franchise. For me to actively care about the next set of victims in the 5th film of a slasher franchise you gotta be doing something above the norm.
    The Dream Child rules.

    I was pretty disappointed with this one after watching it in theaters and unfortunately my opinion hasn't really changed with numerous re-watches, but at the same time I can't fully blame director Stephen Hopkins (Predator 2, Lost In Space, The Ghost & The Darkness) as the dude was stretched RIDICULOUSLY thin during filming since he had the incredibly difficult task of trying to get this movie out in a VERY short amount of time. There were scenes where the cast had to literally direct themselves as Stephen couldn't be on set and had to attend to other aspects of the film. Visually though I really do think it's one of the best of the series.

    You know what I find frustrating about most of the Nightmare sequels? That they have incredible ideas for stories that could've been REALLY disturbing as well as scary, just like the first film was. But they could never seem to resist making Freddy as ultra-campy and goofy as possible, or making the characters in them as blatantly stock and tropey as can be, both of which often play to the detriment of those premises and themes. This film, in my opinion, is probably THE most egregious example of this on both counts.
