@@jeffhaley2706 I'm surprised that I hadn't heard of it and it's so good. And not just because Jasper narrated it lol but imo Jasper does take stories up a notch.
I am very surprised that some people have not heard of this one. One of Benson's best. You have heard of "The Face" right? 😊
I really loved that he wrote 'short brown teeth' instead of long ones. Brilliantly read as ever and a great story. Would be interesting to know what people were talking about at the time he wrote it re how the world was evolving socially. ❤️
Have always liked this one. Think it's the perfect link between M R James (who's stories Benson actually listened to being read by Monty James at Christmas. At least on a few occasions) and Lovecraft.
Also you've got to love a good 'these are the trolls of folklore/monster story.

That was brilliant.EF Benson never disappoints and the narration was superb,it really elevated the horror.
Sooooo not right 🫣🫣🫣😬😰😱 J'ai peur, Monsieur L'Estrange!!!!! My more salt than pepper hair is now stark white! It's that chill, calm tone you keep in spite of frantically fearful moments, tbat just gives shivers to one's marrow.

I listen to quite a few ‘story tellers’ on the ‘tube and I find that Jasper’s narrations of ghoulish tales have a little bit of extra oddness about them…which I love

Great story, Jasper. I just stories about mean little people. They’re so distinctive from the Viking type Dwarves that we see in Tolkien’s stories

Not only are your readings (ahem) sublime, but your mixing and sound design is fantastic. And I generally hate sound effects.
Thanks Rohan. I know a lot of people dislike the music and sound effects, but I think they can be useful for atmosphere and just to create a nice "bed" for the narration track. Blame the fact that I grew up listening to storybook tapes and never really grew out of them! To be honest though, this one ended up being a bit effects-heavy. Glad you enjoyed it.
