    As a software engineer, Amazon can can make the "find a person or take a drink to someone " feature more efficient by first giving it a 360° camera to use for navigating. That way, it can quickly scan an entire room for a person. Secondly, using the map it has of the house, when searching for someone, it should first go to the room where the persons phone is located. If there person isnt in the room, then it can start searching in every other room. These additions should improve the robots efficiency

    Couple things I don’t like is how loud it is when it moves I think it would be an issue if ur trying to work or study and the whole running over the cord thing would be annoying and I really feel like Astro should just be more for company use only, it should be an outside robot that can return back to its main charge area on like a campus or office type situation and honestly I don’t think I’d like to have it going into my bathroom. It’s cool and I get it’s still in development but I think it will be cool to see a final product

    Lots of things that need to be worked out. But I am willing to bet when it got to the blocks the first time, they were washed out with being in the bright sunlight. It probably didn’t see them at all since it was a huge bright spot on the floor. Pushing them back into the shadows made it realize something large was on the floor and it just gave it self a wider berth but didn’t actually see the ones closer to him since they were still in the sunlight.

    What problem does it solve?
    A product that can't solve a problem is useless
    Things I'd like a robot to do: Take a drink from a fridge and deliver it, clean the house, do my laundry, cook.
    This doesn't do any of that, all it does is roam around and act cute, but if it's a virtual pet that you need, it seems like a $5 app would do a better job

    • @Superman-xr1oh
      @Superman-xr1oh 2 года назад +2

      Agree 100%. Vacuum robots for instance actually solve a problem. This doesn't, all it does is roam around the house and takes a drink that you have to put in carriage and take it to someone else in the house. Hardly a problem that requires a $1000+ price tag.
      Until someone develops a robot that can actually do tasks even if limited around the house, then I'm not interested.

    I've always favored more of a "Red Queen" from Resident Evil kind of model. Central processing, central interface, well organized display, but multiple "dumb" "bodies". Like, Astro would be one body used by a central system. Examples of what I wish the overall system could do: shut off the house water supply from leak detection, shut off the house gas supply from a stove being left on and spotted on patrol, or from CO alerts, fly a patrol route outside with thermal imaging, fall detect and call an emergency call center if the fallen person is non-responsive, vitals detect and call an emergency call center (requires worn or implanted device on the person), take in data from multiple cameras and motion sensors (the tech of which in itself needs improving, too many false triggers from shadows, cars, etc. Not sure how to even improve this one, people have attempted to combine motion and thermal and trigger on both positive, but I think you really need narrow AI for this to work properly). And the security and remote piloting they're already doing. Clearly, a system like this needs water and gas shutoff valves, multiple cameras, multiple motion sensors, and at least two drones (one outside, one inside). Unless you want to include vacuuming, mopping, and lawn mowing in which case it's 4 at least. The real problem here is that all of these are at present a bunch of disparate systems that don't talk to each other, I'd like to see some form of universal interface where a central system's capabilities can be built out like this. Also would like ability to call neighbors or unlock a door for emergency personnel or neighbors. Again, requiring narrow AI, or some kind of a worn marker on the people in question. This all together functioning smoothly and centralized is a winner, big time. Been waiting on it for a very long time now.

    • @Naejakire3
      @Naejakire3 Год назад

      Alexa can call emergency personnel or unlock doors via linked smart functions. I'm assuming these things (like smart locks) could be linked via astro as well. The benefit to ASTRO would be that it can follow you around so you can activate smart features from wherever you are in your home.. But then again, so can your phone. With gas and water shut off, I have no idea if they even make smart versions of this.

None of this stuff is necessary & just makes you spend money you don't need to, with no doubt unreliable & possibly even dangerous results. • @Chillmax
      @Chillmax 2 года назад +3

      @@Superman-xr1oh If you're really worried about home temperatures & are away a lot, just leave a standard thermostat on 20 degrees. I've never understood the desire to control heating away from home, it's excessive, bound to eventually go wrong & just plain unnecessary. I have a camera at my front gates that connects to my phone, so I can manage that anywhere, but I had to have a system to open the gates, no choice, also the service is free, no SIM. I'm not against all of this luxury future tech, I'm just warning that running it all via Amazon sounds like a very bad idea, if you've ever watched a sci-fi movie set in the future, these things don't tend to end well for the consumer!

    Thank you for such a thorough review! I try not to be too anti-new tech after watching idiot babies ruin VR gaming, but I still find this repulsive. I also find it wild that this is as smart as they could make it. Sure, there will be updates, but the amount of time it would take to develop software to make this thing not trash will far exceed the life of this product. Claiming this is Artificial Intelligence should be illegal.
