Hi Sean, I would like to connect a Mackie mixer to a DSLR Camera w/ 3.5 mic input. Do I need anything in between them? I have a Mackie and a GH4 but not sure how I should connect them. Great videos. Thanks for sharing.
Want to check out the AUDIO TESTS we did with the BeachTek? We used it for all of our NAB videos here: bit.ly/NAB2017Highlights NOTE: In a few videos the audio is a little "to hot" / "to loud." In those cases it's our fault, not the adapters fault. :-)
+Think Media TV Sean this may require a video explanation, but at 5:34 could you explain how the audio setup on that camera? It looks like you had the Beachtek mounted underneath, a Sennheiser on the side, and two boom mics? Thx
Heyi I am watching your videos since I started to youtube. I pretty much learned everything from you. But I got a problem now. I upgraded my camera to t5i and I have 18-55 & 50 mm lenses. İn both cases the auto focus is killing me. My face always goes in and out of focus and I cant fix it. If you help me on this , I will really appreciate thanks.
I want something like this. When I do my run and guns right now I use my faithful Zoom H1. I run a mic in then I use splitter for audio out so I can run it into my T3i and to my headphones to monitor it. Its a decent preamp, but there is no easy way to adjust audio with this set up, knobs would be great.
Do you find on just plugging your mic directly into the T3i gives a lot of noise and hiss? I’m finding this right now where I cannot fix it so wondering about this thing?
i have one of these, i bought it so i could use xlr mics for talking head vids, and when i am out i can wear a lav mic and use a mic pro or something else for environmental sounds at the same time.
Currently Audio is my main issue. When I am doing Facebook-Livestreams for Clients I am using my Zoom H2 as Audio Device straight into OBS. Otherwise I am using a Sennheiser MKE400 on the Hotshoe or on a Boom Pole (depending on the situation). The problem: cables, cables, cables
Question: When you film your talking head videos, right in front of the camera with a controlled environment, do you use a preamp like this one? Or do you just use the shotgun microphone without the preamp? BTW-Love your content! Keep up the good work!
Hey im thinking about starting a youtube channel and i already watch a lot of your videos and they really help so im gonna get all thing organized and start the channel, your videos really motivate me to create my channel and they are really helpful keep making great videos!
you can try panasonic g7 if you need 4k video, Canon 700d and Sony a58 both are great option for making videos for RUclips almost same price with kit lens, i use Sony a58...... :-)
I'm sold on the DXA Mircro Pro but I need 2 lavs to record 2 people. And I'm a little confused on the XLR input on the other side. So sorry. New to shooting myself. Spent way more time on the other side of the camera.
Stupid question here ... If it has a stereo input, it can record 1 person in stereo ... it also has a left and right input that can record two persons on both ... would it be possible to record 3 persons? If not what could be a solution using this device?
i use the zoom h6 for weddings and I use a rodemic with a long audio cable for my youtube videos... My only concern is it doesnt record audio to different audio tracks, so using multiple microphones may not work... how do it work for you?
Thanks. Hey, what is the camera light you show in this video? and was it the primary light you used? Your link shows bigger stand LED lights, I'm interested in the camera light.
Great explanation Sean! I'm thinking of getting one (Beachtek or Saramonic version), but I am wondering if the audio quality is better when using an external recorder like the Zoom H5. I know that an external recorder requires syncing audio in post, and that using a Beachtek like you say avoids the need for synching in post, but I still wonder if there is a difference in audio quality between using something like the Beachtek and an external recorder like the Zoom?Any thoughts?
I'm wondering the same. Must be noted that the Zoom H5 has separate line and headphone output, and thus can be used as the Beachtek preamp), to preamp the mic, monitor the audio with a headphone, and record to your camera by connecting the H5 line output to the camera mic input. You can set the line output level on the H5 to avoid saturating the camera mic input.
Brilliant heads-up ThinkM. I conduct FB Live interviews for the health and fitness industry (here in Singapore) using Rode Video Mic (iphone) and Rode shotgun (with Canon 80D) but, would like to use a wireless handheld microphone that works with my iPhone FB Live setup. What would you recommend?
In regard of your question put to us; I have recorded sound and video on my Galaxy S7 Edge. This is what I will be using for my content creation, initially. :)
Hello Sean, I just got DXA-MICRO Pro. I'm studying Journalism and I've been trying to be more independent when it come to gadges for video recording. Next month I am going to record a few interviews and I'd would like to get your help/opinion about the use of DXA-MICRO PRO. I have one 'on-camera RODE shotgun mic' and one 'hand shotgun mic', I would like to use the first one just to record 'ambient sound' and the second to record the interviews. So... I need to put them on the LEFT and RIGHT inputs right? (I only use the STEREO input when I am recording with only one mic, am I right?). To record interviews do you recommend to use the MONO or the STEREO output? I am so lost... Thank you so much and I am sorry for the stupid question.
From someone who cant afford anything anywhere near £150. Is there a similar and cheaper way of JUST being able to hear your audio live for testing on set? So many times when the mic is either too far away or too close. I use the Rode video mic pro with a Canon 700D
Hey can you do a review of the canon eos rebel sl1 because I am thinking about getting into vlogging and I have a tight budget and it is pretty cheap I just want to know if you who recommend this for beginners.
Its amazing this videos, than you share your knowlege, im starting in this world, video, buisness conferences, or create online education, LMS, all this help me alot for figure out the best ways to conect everything, thanks alot!
Hey Sean, another great tech review! Quick question: Wouldn't you get the same/better results by mounting the zoom H4 and running it's output into the camera?
i use RODE VIDEOMICRO and ZOOM H1 HANDY RECORDER both give me perfect result, for outdoor video i use RODE for indoor i use ZOOM H1, no need this DXA...... :-)
THiNK Media TV thank you. I got my DSLR as a gift, and it doesn’t have a built in audio jack and I don’t have a ton of money at the moment. Thanks for the idea. This will probably be my next investment to improve my RUclips channel.

Think Media hey can you please give me a shout out please I love you tube
Another win for the creator! It looks to be light and unobtrusive around other camera functionality. Thanks :)
I use a $30 AT lav, which I run through a Zoom H1n and then run that through to my Canon HF R 600. That way, I can record a separate back-up track.

@@kristaylor7119 Yeah, the audio drivers just arent great on the T3i. I don't use it anymore but i found it 100% necessary to sync in post.
Still worth it or are there better solutions? Cheaper solution?
Very cool man!
Hey Sean! I have a YI 4K action can that doesn't have a mic input. I found a few DIY videos on how that can happen. Do you approve?

700d or Eos m3?

Dope! Thanks for the useful information
You're welcome!
Hey I do a lot of outdoor filming. Do you have a tip vid talking about that?
Sean what’s better this or the Zoom H1n? I’m using a lav mic into the iPhone. All I care about is sound.
Hey Sean, still using the Beachtet or any other preamps for recording events or interviews? Thanks for any feedback! Best, Christian

Hey, you list the 2017 buyers guide. Do you have a 2019 guide?
Can i use three lavs ? left and right and the XLR jack ?
Looks a useful piece of kit. Have you any experience of the Saramonic equivalent of this? I'm looking at both of them.....
Hey Keith, you can check out videos of Saramonic mixer on our channel ;-)

Very cool device, I usually use a rode videomic connected to a zoom h4n and unfortunately sync in post.. but this looks very cool for run and gun..
Is there a cheaper one of these? My camera doesn't have an audio jack and I just bought a microphone

Hi Sean, please which is the on camera led light you used when covering NAB? I see you used a yellow led light..May I kmlw the brand? Thanks!

Sean - is there a cheap way (any adapter) to use two lavalier mics as inputs to zoom h1? (For interviews)
Hey Sean, another great tech review! Quick question: Wouldn't you get the same/better results by mounting the zoom H4 and running it's output into the camera?
Yes - you could get similar results. This is the video I used to setup that up in the past... vimeo.com/18109551
Awesome! You are seriously crushing it.

Sean, would this work on cam corder's as well?
this will work best (easiest) if you have a mic input into your camera, otherwise you're going to need a separate recorder
where can i watch your nab footages?

THiNK Media TV thanks :)
Btw love your videos always helpful :)
wow nice
Hey Sean, Were you able to run / test 2 or more wireless mics with this?
Not yet... we just used one at NAB... ruclips.net/p/PLgc0GNip2uYUFF4m4nCvFcSBxFvIjkvI5
However... it's pretty straight forward... two wireless mics would be no problem.

Aliex Folgueira If I am not mistaken, 4k is the acronym for 1440p.
Cool
You skipped TV in Think Media TV
Working on a re-brand... probably doping "TV" and going with "Think Media" only. What do you think?
THiNK Media TV I like it, I've always thought the TV was a bit unprofessional, cant wait to see the results!
