Leonard was definitely a man who had an overall gameplan most of the time but it was his raw talent and his aggressive competitive nature that made him such a monster in the ring. I miss when fighters that boxed also had a viscous punch behind their IQ.
Great choice of boxer, and a rather rather good breakdown of Sugar Ray Leonard’s boxing style. Some things were not mentioned however, his great chin, his strength, his strong punches, from both fists.Along with Leonard’s tremendous hand speed, and foot speed, his exceptional defensive skills, and polished boxing.Leonard was something perhaps only Muhammad Ali was,and that was an illustrious boxing artist.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again, ONLY Ray Robinson can truly match his greatness at his best during his prime at welterweight, and at his best, RayRob would only eke out a decision in a fight that definitely could go either way. Leonard's phenomenal speed, high ring IQ, and the fact that he always punched in a more tighter, linear arc than Robinson, who sometimes threw wider, more looping shots that SRL could have capitalized on. In time, SRL will become more elevated to a more lofty status in boxing lore.
I have Robinson winning a unanimous decision by 2 to 4 rounds on all 3 cards. I am talking about a 15 rounder and Robinson would take over late in the fight. His body punches were downright brutal. Only Leonard's tremendous heart and great chin takes him the distance.
Can you please do a Chocolatito style breakdown? With his win over Martinez, I feel like now the old Chocolatito is back. I also really love his style and he also has incredible defense that I feel like is a little underrated.
Lenord is a beast, he is very hard to walk down because of his lateral movement and is always staying on his toes, he uses his lead hand and rear hand really well combined with his speed. His flurries are also very solid and his famously known bolo punch made him the fighter he is today with his brutal finishing ability and his combination punches.

Like all the greats, Ray had it all - balance, power, speed, timing, and like all of the legends, he could put it all together when it mattered most. Plus, he was mentally solid. Someone like Don Curry, about Leonard's size and weight, was physically very talented but lacked the mental strength to be considered in the same charmed circle as Leonard and the other 'Three Kings'. Ray came out of the game a wealthy man with his mental faculties intact; Curry, and Benitez, just to name two, did not - they both suffer from Dementia Pugilistica (DP) which is a form of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), and they came out of the ring virtually broke, showing nothing, at least financially, for all of the great battles they were in, in the ring.
