Very good explanations of some ideas in the classical Dutch. Usually when I play this opening I get the move order wrong and end up with a lousy position, so this game was very instructive.
Thanks to Simon and his dvd in addition to these lessons I nearly always win with the Dutch simply because I understand the IDEAS in the middle game. Sadly I'm not so effective with my other openings!
Excellent video Simon, as someone who has got your DVD, this material is an excellent suppliment to it. Fantastic, more Black Lion, London System and Dutch videos please :)
thank you so much! a5 is such a great move. i love playing classical dutch, but always struggle getting my knight out without falling into them playing d5. i always resorted to shuffling it along the back, via d7 and f8, but don't like it. their queen often ends up on c2, and it really does work! you've improved my game immensely with this revelation!!
Incredible material to learn from. Thank you. Also, you're funny, which is not always a characteristic of chess gms. Keep it up, experiment and have fun! This channel has a bright future.
Of course it helps! I like to watch your blitz sessions (specially when you play weird openings), but most of all I enjoy these 15 minutes games because I learn about all the moments of the game, openings, middle game and endings with your explanations, during the game and after. I think I will put on my pipe some of your "deeveedees" and I will smoke it... very depply! By the way, it would be amazing to see you playing the hippo in one of your 15 minutes games ;-) Thanks for all again
lol savage burn!! but cut him some slack, all of us sometimes get too relaxed when we are wining. Best lesson here is to keep your sword sharp it only takes a minor slip to let the enemy escape.
Im playing the dutch because of you GGM. Im 1600 and getting crushed. Its a very hard oppening to stabilize. Its so unbalanced it always brings fireworks
The way way you explained your ideas in the Classical Dutch has kind of encouraged me to play the Classical Dutch. I am a positional player and I currently play the Slav against 1. d4 and the Caro Kann against 1. e4 because they have similar ideas. Now I don't know whether I should add the Classical Dutch to my repertoire or not.
Wow, what a difference between Stockfish 8 and Stockfish 15. Stockfish 8 is struggling to understand why the final position at 35:45 is a draw, yet Stockfish 15 understands instantly that 34... Rb8 was a blunder by black, immediately evaluating to 0.0. 34... c4 wins the game though, hovering around -1.5. Tested Stockfish vs Stockfish after 34... c4 and black always wins. Great game!
what would you recommend to main defence (for a begginer-intermediate player) against d4 between dutch and english defence?. I loved your London system for the busy player at chess.com and now I want to go for your english defence course or your classical dutch course there.
I need to analyze this draw endgame, because I think you could sac the bishop in d4 and it would be pretty difficult, but I think black still has a chance.
Hi Simon, hope you read this because it's irritating when you have to resize the board every time you pull up the analysis board. Basically, when you open the analysis board, it opens it in a new tab in chess.com. That shifts the boards over slightly to make room for the tabs. To get it back to the original position without resizing, just close the inactive tab, i.e., keep the analysis board open, but close the tab for the game you've just played. Cheers
i really wanted to learn how to play the dutch but got severely discouraged after playing against the double fianchetto system in many games. its almost as if white can just force black to never get e5 in
Instead of 28.... Kc7, why not : 28... Rf7 (to hold the b7 pawn) with the idea 29. ... Nd3!? (it's time to use the lovely knight !) with the idea of 30.... Bxc4 . Is there something wrong with that plan ?
The French is not my style (too cramped)I play the Sicilian Najdorf but my results are random due to the complexity. I should probably try the King's Indian.
I think King's Indian is a defence against d4, not e4. Against the Sicilian, you can try c3 Sicilian, there is a good DVD in Ginger GM shop by Sam Collins who is a great lecturer. There is also a Grand Prix DVD by Jones but I found that too complex, I could not watch it. Chessable.com has some good repertoires too, you can check them out.
do you playing acheater simon sir thank for the tow vidoes and your thougt process great wy of improving chess may be one day you will work with anish giri
Ginger all of your blitz games 95% you sack a pawn opening lines n win.. Long games you close down positions n going for queen trade with endgame.... Is just does not suits you.
Dilyan - ....b6 is a howler. He could have played Rab8. If c5 Rd5 and if Bc4 Re5 Bxe6 Rxe6 then... Re5 wins C5. Also, He had exchange sac ideas on d3 to target the c3 pawn, but only if c4 can be won.
egregious arts he talks about how he makes his bishop bad, how is out of game, how his Knight makes bad backwards moves or opponents rooks bad... But at the end he always fck up, I knew right after he traded queen's it will end badly. Just do what you do best n attack his king
What the hell are you talking about? There is no 'does not suit you' when it comes to GMs and the rest of us. Simon's position play was exceptional here. You're forgetting he's doing a job while playing and a damn fine one at that. You sit him down with this opponent over a board in a quiet room with only his own thoughts and he'll beat that opponent 9 times out of 10.
Aldo Camilleri of course it does. Simon weakness is positional game and endgame. I am not forgetting that his play can be improved without recording n talking.
So the Dutch is no good, this comes from a GM right? Perhaps we need to ask Botvinnik (wake him up), L Ami, Stefan Kindermann , Viktor Moskalenko, Agdestein, David Anton, Bareev, Bartel, Caruana, Carlsen, Gurevich, Dolmatov, Kamsky, Malaniuk...oh wait ...Nakamura, Nikolic, Onischuk, Vallejo Pons,...what they think about what you have just called "not good"....Please ban this guy.
So fun to watch, thanks so much for uploading all of your longer games Simon!
No problem Kyle, it is therapeutic talking through my own games!
Wow I've never seen a GM break down the ideas so concisely before, besides Danya. You and Naroditsky are tied for best teachers
Very good explanations of some ideas in the classical Dutch. Usually when I play this opening I get the move order wrong and end up with a lousy position, so this game was very instructive.
It takes a while to master this opening, it is not an easy one to learn. Once learnt though, it can be very effective.
Thanks to Simon and his dvd in addition to these lessons I nearly always win with the Dutch simply because I understand the IDEAS in the middle game. Sadly I'm not so effective with my other openings!
Extremely well done video. I've been reading your "Killer Dutch" book, and the first like 10 minutes illustrate so many of the concepts well.
7.Ne4!
Love watching you play the Dutch. Thanks for the video
7...Ne4 is the way to go!
Great explanation of several ideas in the Dutch!
Great game Sim! I loved (and leant) the g5 move in the middlegame.. It's a pity for the result, you attacked the whole game. Cheers
...g5 has won me lots of points in tournaments. A very important middlegame plan.
Excellent video Simon, as someone who has got your DVD, this material is an excellent suppliment to it. Fantastic, more Black Lion, London System and Dutch videos please :)
Glad the material is helping Brendan!

Very instructive, thank you Simon!
Well I hope it helps! Giving some of my secrets away...

Thank you for your excellent analysis, Simon!
Cheers Linear
And cheers to you, Simon!
Really enjoyed the game and your instructions while playing. thnx!
lol savage burn!! but cut him some slack, all of us sometimes get too relaxed when we are wining. Best lesson here is to keep your sword sharp it only takes a minor slip to let the enemy escape.
Super instructive! Thank you!

It takes a long time to learn the Dutch. It is not as easy option, but very rewarding if you can master it.
Excellent as always. Thank you sir.
Glad you liked it.
Great lesson, thank you
Thanks for watching!
A draw with the dutch!? Did not see that coming. Very instructive game though.
Thanks Simon! Your videos make my week😂
Nice to hear. :)
Seriously showed all my friends this😂 your the man Simon!
I love long play games, they're very instructive. More please :D
Will try to do one once a week, when I can find the time!

Very instructive but I'm still sticking to your killer French at the moment...with some improvement too! Thanks for all the videos, they are brill.
The French is better against 1 e4. Dutch works well against the Queens Pawn Openings.
GingerGM ok...youve sold the killer Dutch vid to me now...thanks again

Thanks Dan, hopefully I can get that to work next time.
just a question, can you castle queenside in the leningrad and then push your pawns on the kingside?
fantastic lesson again! great stuff
Cheers. :)
the main lesson to take from this is that if you ever play simon, you shouldn't allow the dutch... he has so much energy haha
at 16:08 is c5 an idea? to block the c4 pawn and permanently block in the white bishop
i really wanted to learn how to play the dutch but got severely discouraged after playing against the double fianchetto system in many games. its almost as if white can just force black to never get e5 in
Well, I normally try ...Ne4 ...Bf6 ...d6 and then ...e5 against this plan.
Nice thanks. Try london system again :)
Do you have a sample game with Qe8-Qh5?
Nice ideas.
Hey Gavin, years of experience helping my ideas here.
He says to not allow an exchange of the white d pawn for the e pawn but playing Nc6 allows exactly that??
Instead of 28.... Kc7, why not : 28... Rf7 (to hold the b7 pawn) with the idea 29. ... Nd3!? (it's time to use the lovely knight !) with the idea of 30.... Bxc4 . Is there something wrong with that plan ?
Looks interesting, I just did not want to swap off my beautiful Knight.
I've had good success with this opening as a 1250 elo player. Now if I can only find a defense for 1.E4 lol
Simon has education material on French and Sicilian, so you can play either of those against 1.e4, maybe start with the French.
The French is not my style (too cramped)I play the Sicilian Najdorf but my results are random due to the complexity. I should probably try the King's Indian.

Yeah I sometimes have that problem!
At 27 was it possible Bf7 and play Rc4?
yep ;)
pawn break on h4 looks promising Black has the only good pawn break at the end
h4 was a move that I was trying to get in. I just couldn't find a good moment to play it.
do you playing acheater simon sir thank for the tow vidoes and your thougt process great wy of improving chess may be one day you will work with anish giri
dutch difensi
In stockfish 14 this is a dead draw.
Ginger all of your blitz games 95% you sack a pawn opening lines n win.. Long games you close down positions n going for queen trade with endgame.... Is just does not suits you.

i agree with aldo, Real OTB play is different from internet chess play.
Aldo Camilleri of course it does. Simon weakness is positional game and endgame. I am not forgetting that his play can be improved without recording n talking.
the dutch is not good. Your opponent played a lot of silly moves and still got a draw.
His opponent played well, did not have to do commentary while playing, and only managed to get a draw with White.
you are gm?
simon is not interested in the comments here. he could play at lesat the enhanced dutch. But he is a litttle rusty it seems.
So the Dutch is no good, this comes from a GM right? haha ikr @enrico, it fucked me up too, lol still gonna watch it tho
