I tell folks to sandwich 10 inch squares or fat eights...then kear to quilt before you move to table runner...those scraps really make you learn.

Yes I stitched my finger,not free motion but piecing! Really too much wine. Lol

You mentioned that your fingers crack. Have you tried liquid bandage on it?
Yes, I have and it will work for a bit and then - crack! I try to keep up with hand cream - I like Curel - but sometimes I don't apply it enough and then - crack!
